Ya! @LeftCoastOppa dongsaeng. Am seriously questioning yet again the triple 7.  Especially the older 200 version.  This week at departure one of the engines made some very loud noises - the whole aircraft was resonating from it. As a frequent flyer, can’t really recall ever hearing noise like that. Even I got worried for a sec we would have to return to the airport.

Am an airbus kinda gal.

 

Flying the 787 next.

I wouldn't worry too much - if you take out MH370 & MH17, both deliberate actions, not airframe/mechanical failures, the safety rate for 777 gets even better.

Its noises are weird. Every time I fly on one a new noise appears.

I work on 777's at least 2-3 times a week - its to the point I've heard just about every kind of noise they make. So much so, that it can sometimes be part of troubleshooting when we don't hear a noise when we should.  Noise in itself isn't always a bad thing.

 

Hydraulics/Pneumatics/Electricals - all working the most during takoffs and landings - when most people complain about noises.

 

Gear and Uplock actuators - Flap & Slat(leading edges) actuators - all make a great deal of noise, and can sound different depending on where you may be seated in the cabin ... doesn't necessarily mean anything is wrong.

these are super yums!!

we have a lot imported from vietnam!

 

but make sure to remove the seeds before you serve to your kiddos.. the pointed ends of the seeds are sharp.. its not like watermelon or mangosteens where you can pop in the fruit and spit out the seeds kind..

@LeftCoastOppa yea, I know about the hydraulics noises on 777s - this time it was definitely coming from the engine though. Even when we were taxiing from the gate to the runway, the engine kept making short but very loud surging noises. After the initial climb and when the flaps were retracted, the engine then went on to making really loud whirring noises (kinda like the same sound when a motorcycle accelerates quickly) which resonated throughout the whole cabin. That went on for a good 3-5 minutes. I thought the engine was about to explode.  
As you know, I fly a lot and I don’t get nervous easily.

 

Please tell Boeing to make less scary airplanes. 

 

@sweetroad yes, now when you posted a pic of a chestnut tree (and I remembered what the flowers look like) I do agree that they have a strong scent.
