The drama is based on a Chinese book called Go Princess Go - one that was also made into a c-drama in 2015.

 

It’s about a man (who is a player with a capital P - a real womanizer) who ends up in an accident and is transported back in time (more than 100 years) and wakes up as a princess/queen. Well, ensue funny moments learning that you are now the fiancé/wife of a king.

 

I won’t literally spoil the ending, but I will say on a general note the following:

The original book had an ending that was based on liberal views

The c-drama adaptation didn’t go such a liberal route but didn’t totally cut it off either

The k-drama took the concept and made it conservative - you will see it especially in the end. This resulted in the end not really making very much sense and a lot of fans being very angry

I didnt like the ending for the main couple, but my OTP had a romantic and sweet ending...

I have just been ranting about the ending this afternoon - in about 5 posts. 

I loved the drama until the last episode . After that it crashed and burned for me

 

Did you watch the original Go Princess Go?

I only came across this thread a few days ago.   

First, I liked those posts about fruits.  

Then I found out about the drama Kinnporsche.     Wow..I immediately liked Vegas, and I wanted

to watch the drama because of the actor, but I couldnt.   

 

 

 

 

Although for a moment I thought it was another actor, Tor from the thai drama Heart of Stone.

By the way, this song came up on my "Liked Songs" Spotify playlist today and I was like, where did this song come from and why did I like it?! Then in a flash I actually pictured the song in my mind and I remembered the brilliance of Moldova.

I liked the costumes of Mr Queen more, I found the male cast of Go Princess Go more handsome.

I found the 2 dramas to be very different from each other - both with their own charms.

Mr Queen had more budget and spun the story in a way that made it work as a fusion sageuk.

 

Go Princess Go was low budget but they didn’t take themselves seriously and could therefore make it hilarious and over the top. I definitely laughed a lot while watching it.  

 

As for the endings of these dramas I appreciated the fact that GPG tried to honor the original work’s idea and ending, even though they also had to restrict it. Therefore they were forced to go with a “sad” ending.

 

Unfortunately Mr Queen took the story and made it into a totally illogical ending that made no sense because they feared k-netz wouldn’t stomach what they thought would be a more unconventional ending. 
They were wrong, because a majority of the k-netz comments were about how they also felt the logical yet more unconventional ending would have been better.

 

Times are changing in Korea though with the rise of Korean BL dramas and now even with an LGBTQ+ reality dating show premiering soon. Hopefully this will also allow kdramas to dare include more diversity in the future.

 

Btw talking about illogical endings, my dongsaeng @LeftCoastOppa is fearing Alchemy of Souls is going to go down the Mr Queen route too.

Him in the drama thread right now:

I fear he’s gonna send a Truck of Doom somewhere if the ending sucks in his opinion.
