  3. May 26, 2019 Bong Joon-ho's 'Parasite' wins Palme d'Or at Cannes CANNES, France, May 25 (Yonhap) -- South Korean director Bong Joon-ho grabbed the highest honor at the 72nd Cannes Film Festival on Saturday for his black comedy movie "Parasite." Bong became the first South Korean director to win the Palme d'Or at Cannes. Before him, Park Chan-wook was awarded the Grand Prix, the second-highest prize at the festival, for his thriller "Old Boy" in 2004. His achievement marks the sixth time that a Korean film has received one of the main competition awards at the Cannes Film Festival. Im Kwon-taek took the best director award for "Chihwaseon" in 2002, Park Chan-wook earned one twice with "Old Boy" (2004) and "Thirst" (2009) and Lee Chang-dong picked up the best screenplay award with "Poetry" in 2010. Jeon Do-yeon won the best actress award for "Secret Sunshine" in 2007. "Parasite" finished first in a fierce competition against big-name candidates and Cannes laureates like "Pain and Glory" by Spanish director Pedro Almodovar and "Young Ahmed" by the Belgian filmmaking brothers Jean-Pierre Dardenne and Luc Dardenne. When his name was called at the very end of the closing ceremony of the Cannes Film Festival, Bong shouted with joy and hugged his colleagues. "I didn't prepare a speech in French, but I'm inspired a lot by French movies," he told the audience via a French-speaking interpreter at the awards ceremony. "'Parasite' was an amazing adventure for me." He thanked his staff and cast for their dedication and contribution to completing the masterpiece. "When I was 12 years old, I decided to become a film director," he said. "I'd never imagined the day that I touch this trophy." "Parasite", Bong's seventh feature film, revolves around the poor family of Ki-taek who live in a squalid, grubby basement. They become involved in a string of mishaps after the sly son gets a job as a tutor for a moneyed family residing in an opulent, gaudy mansion. Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu, the president of the jury, said it was a unanimous decision on "Parasite." "The film is such a unique experience; it's an unexpected film," the Mexican director said in a press conference after the closing ceremony. He stressed that the jury did not take into account the fact that Japanese director Hirokazu Kore-eda won it last year for "Shoplifters." Some had expected Cannes to hesitate in granting the grand prize to Asian directors two years in a row. "The cinema had to speak for itself," Inarritu said, adding that the jury had no political agenda or message. The Grand Prix went to "Atlantics" by Mati Diop, and the Jury Prize, the third-best honor, was granted to "Bacurau" by Kleber Mendonca Filho and Juliano Dornelles and "Les Miserables" by Ladj Ly. The best director award was given to Jean-Pierre and Luc Dardenne for "Young Ahmed," while Antonio Banderas and Emily Beecham took the best actor and actress awards for their performance in "Pain and Glory" and "Little Joe," respectively. brk@yna.co.kr
  4. for her to keep that mickey mouse blanket for almost 3 years... I might already lost it after a year lol and all those mickey mouse blanket has all the costars' smells except one... "I have another blanket just to share with him"
  5. @nateko yes. But I feel na will take a different approach this time. I don’t think he will have that hatred anymore. Ah my psychopath apprentice good job! Yes! We share the same thoughts now! Let’s hope we get it right!
  6. Actually , he’s fallen for Gal Hee. Just does not realise it . And if you watch further it will be explained why it seems he can recognise her only . There’s actually a logic to it . He actually can’t recognise anyone. It was quite nicely explained . By the time you reach eps 6 , it’s quite obvious who he’s fallen for @Ameera Ali I like the robot but I think at this point I would like to see her reconcile with the ex. I felt that there’s still love btwn them but I suppose it is not easy being a celebrity. It feels quite realistic the way he’s responding. He deserves to get some competition from the hot robot of course . . The apron scene is imprinted on my mind ! 916 Yes , that would be me . I have stopped reading . I just do Housekeeping. @sushilicious take a deep breath . Write down what needs to be done . Prioritise what needs to be submitted first. Get the easier ones out of the way. You can do this !
  7. Now that I've watched ep.5, I think @sushilicious you were right, Shun might be KW's brother. BJS saying that KW knows Shun the best is quite telling and it can't be KW's dad since Shun is young. If KW really knows Shun from before then it must be from his childhood since Shun lived in Japan and KW left for Korea at a young age. I can't imagine anyone else being Shun other than his bro, who was there when MH was murdered and saw everything. If KW inherited any 'psycho genes' from his dad, then most likely his bro did too. It will be an interesting plot point if Shun is indeed KW's brother who took a completely different path from KW and decided to become even worse than his father. I don't remember if it was ever explained how KW's brother 'died' but I always found the fact suspicious. I also lost any hope for KW and think he'll end up badly. The words that he told KJ "You and I both don't have that much time" seem like a premonition of what's to come. The miscommunication that's going on between him and KJ is pissing me off so much. If they could just sit and talk for an hour the season could go down from 16 to like 12 episodes. If there's anything I've learned from watching K-dramas for years is that miscommunication is the root of all evil. BTW, doesn't it seem like we're back to square one, I mean to season 2? KW reverted to his grumpy self x10 worse, KJ is back to doubting KW x10 stronger, det. Na is back to suspecting KW x10 more, BJS is on the run etc... What was the purpose of season 2 again?
  8. GOT7’s Jinyoung sat down for an interview with Sports Donga to talk about his acting career. Jinyoung began his acting career in 2012 with KBS’s “Dream High 2.” Thereafter, he featured in “When a Man’s in Love,” “My Love Eun Dong,” the movie “A Stray Goat,” among others. tvN’s “He is Psychometric,” which concluded last […] The post GOT7’s Jinyoung Expresses Thoughts About His Acting Career, Plans As Soloist, Enlistment, And More appeared first on Soompi View the full article
  9. @strwbrry wow! I love dear my friends!!!! It was well written and the director is also good. Who will be her leading man for each genre? Melodrama, lee sang yoon? Suspense and thriller, or saguek, kim nam gil? i really hope she will again be awarded as best actress for her next project. Greedy me. Guilty.
  10. @Lawyerh I burst out laughing when i saw this 914
  11. I wonder if Fukada would not be the big bad guy at the end of the drama. Maybe YJ will have to marry him, he'll be happy, but when YJ's identity is revealed, she'll run away with KWB, and there fukada feeling humiliated and betrayed will chase them to kill them. Personally I do not think there will be a happy ending FOR Miki, it can be seen right away that she will end up causing problems for YJ, her jealousy towards her starts to rise again and again I like a lot this drama all lead are sexy and handsome
  12. Because the only thing in HPL worth the broohahahaha is their chemistry. The rest of the story is very weak. HPL is saved by the OTP one of a kind chemistry. Even us viewers having difficulty in distinguish between reel and real...TVN knows it hence the nonstop sizzling BTS videos in YouTube that showed the chemistry between them off screen that even hotter than on the screen. +2
  13. # 52 hire 20 men to fight one man , when you got gun that can do the job
  14. #51 Male in Disguise Do i have to explain this? Sometimes, missions are impossible to go by one look, so sometimes, they have to go by other looks to join in the investigation. Hahaha
  15. This reminds me to the iconic “we were on a break” story from Friends. And until this very day, it’s still a mystery to everyone. I’m currently rewatching both episodes and I have to say that GS is very much a gentleman. In my perspective, both GS and JI never really know what they really want and haven’t explore the world that much. They are in a loveless relationship and JI herself has been missing the excitement between them. And when she met JH, she finally realized that this is what romantic relationship should be. Even though it would make the story very complicated and painful, I want to see GS as the bigger person. Someone like Sang Woo from Let’s Eat 2.
  16. I was out of country for holiday (which able distracts me a bit) but suddenly it hits me that this week is their last episodes... next week when i come back to my home, i feel like it will hits me that wed/thurs is not the same anymore without this drama OTTOKEEE
  17. This is when dramas steps in to calm me down I needed something fun and thrilling therefore i always have to watch something that is dark. Because it produces endorphins for me and it relieves stress. See. I'm a Dramagie (Drama Druggie). I need a intake of drama daily to feel normal. haha 910
  18. Definitely not! I just want him gone for good..ha ha...I need the OTP more. Just wishing that he'll not escape prison coz then.. we'll be back to square one. I would hate that. Curious, tho, what he meant by planning the wildest things with the Abyss, them revived by it.
  19. Im dreading the wed-thur because I'm having a We Got Married withdrawal syndrome so I know for sure that I will be in a kdrama slump for a looooooong time..
