First script reading for SBS Hyena with Kim Hye-soo, Joo Ji-hoon

New stills have been released of SBS’s upcoming legal drama Hyena, featuring the first script reading that took place this past October. Attendees of the event included actors Kim Hye-soo (Signal), Joo Ji-hoon (Item), Lee Kyung-young (Vagabond), Kim Ho-jung (Chocolate), and Hwang Bora (Vagabond) among other cast and crew.

The story takes place within the dog-eat-dog world of lawyers, where the competition for survival is ruthlessly self-seeking and driven by the lure of money. At the center of this are lawyers Kim Hye-soo and Joo Ji-hoon, who have a complicated history and rivalry.

Kim Hye-soo plays the role of Jung Geum-ja, a hyena-like lawyer who uses any tactic or means for the sake of money. In personality, she is at times charismatic; at times comedic. As her rival, Joo Ji-hoon plays lawyer Yoon Hee-jae who comes from a wealthy background and is part of society’s elite.

Lee Kyung-young and Kim Ho-jung also play lawyers and, together with most of the supporting cast, will be representing one of the top law firms in South Korea.

Written by Kim Roo-ri and directed by PD Jang Tae-yoo (You From Another Star, Tree With Deep Roots), Hyena is currently set to premiere on February 21 and will be airing Fridays and Saturdays on SBS.

SBS’s “Hyena” has released a new poster featuring Kim Hye Soo and Joo Ji Hoon!

The upcoming SBS drama is about the fierce competition between lawyers who use their knowledge of the law to pursue their ambitions for money.

On January 15, “Hyena” released a new poster in which Kim Hye Soo and Joo Ji Hoon are each sitting in front of a windowsill as light shines brightly behind them. The darkness between the two windows showcases the vast difference between Jung Geum Ja (Kim Hye Soo) and Yoon Hee Jae (Joo Ji Hoon). The two characters exude confidence and charisma as Jung Geum Ja steps on a pile of law books while Yoon Hee Jae holds a statue of Lady Justice.

The poster also raises curiosity with the letter “H,” which is the initial of the drama’s title. In the drama, the hyena-like lawyers clean up after the powerful and wealthy, and sometimes they show off their spiteful and clever nature as they personally hunt the members of that high class. Viewers are highly anticipating the roles Kim Hye Soo and Joo Ji Hoon will play and their charismatic chemistry.

On January 16, KeyEast shared photos on Instagram of a coffee truck sent by Ji Chang Wook to the set of the drama “Hyena” to support Joo Ji Hoon. The truck includes banners that read “I’m cheering on actor Joo Ji Hoon and the ‘Hyena’ team” and “To all the cast and crew of ‘Hyena,’ keep it up!”

Joo Ji Hoon poses next to the banners and in some of the photos he’s imitating the way he’s holding his face on a photo of himself on the truck.

KeyEast shared that the two actors have been friends since they starred together in the 2012 drama “Five Fingers.”

The upcoming SBS drama titled "Hyena" revealed new poster featuring lead stars Kim Hye Soo and Joo Ji Hoon! The drama "Hyena" centers on the story about the fierce competition between lawyers who use their intelligence of the law to seek their ambitions for money.

The story revolves around Yoon Hee-Jae and Jung Geum-Ja who are lawyers that work for as the top 1% in society. Jung Geum-Ja is a kind of lawyer, who only works for and go after the money only. She does whatever it takes and uses any means necessary to win a case. Yoon Hee-Jae is a high-class lawyer, who is smart and confident at his job.

This 15th of January "Hyena" revealed a new poster. This poster shows Kim Hye Soo and Joo Ji Hoon that are each sitting in front of a windowsill as light shines brightly behind them. The upcoming SBS drama is about the fierce competition between lawyers who use their knowledge of the law to pursue their ambitions for money. Kim Hye Soo will play Jung Geum Ja, a lawyer who’s after money, and Joo Ji Hoon will play Yoon Hee Jae, an elite lawyer.

In the teasers for Jung Geum Ja, a voice over narrates, “This hyena has great survival skills. She’s great at sniffing out money. As the head of the hyenas, she’ll never let go of her prey. Because she knows how to fight.” The teaser also shows a brief glimpse of her fierce attitude as she takes on her opponents.

 

 

For Yoon Hee Jae’s teaser, the same voice over narrates, “This hyena is the best at wrapping things up cleanly. He doesn’t waste time in cleaning up. He forms a group and moves systematically, and he would never miss an opportunity. He’s a clever fighter.”

Kim Hye-soo, Joo Ji-hoon are on the prowl in new character teasers for SBS Hyena

New video teasers have been released for SBS’s upcoming legal drama Hyena, featuring lead actors Kim Hye-soo (Signal) and Joo Ji-hoon (Item).

The story is centered around the fiercely competitive world of elite lawyers; it will show how easily people become like hyenas in the wild. These lawyers are willing to do whatever it takes to survive and to fight to come out on top. The law is merely their means and their tool, while their hearts are set on money alone.

Emphasizing the idea of lawyers being hyenas, the newly released teasers are a parody of animal wildlife documentaries. A narrator is used to describes each character in their video, as if observing an animal in the wild, and refers to them both as “hyenas.” To further highlight the parallels with their animal counterparts, the scenes are also inter-cut with shots of real-life hyenas and other animals.

In the video for Kim Hye-soo’s character, Jung Geum-ja, the narration starts with: “This hyena has strong survival instincts.” As he speaks, we see Kim trudging down an alley way when someone tries to assault her and she bites down on their arm in defense. The narrator continues that, “She has an incredible nose for the smell of money and can easily track it down.”

On January 31, the fierce main poster for “Hyena” was revealed, featuring their main duo Kim Hye Soo and Joo Ji Hoon. While they’re close enough to appear to go in for a kiss, Joo Ji Hoon has Kim Hye Soo held by the collar while she locks him in a near choke-hold, reflecting their merciless relationship.

 

The second version of the poster shows a different angle of their face-off, revealing Kim Hye Soo holding a brick rather than Joo Ji Hoon’s wrist. It also demonstrates the different histories of the two characters, with Joo Ji Hoon dressed up formally but Kim Hye Soo sporting wounds and a comfortable track suit.

 

“Hyena” tells the survival story of competitive lawyers who hold the law in their minds but money in their hearts. Kim Hye Soo plays money-hungry Jung Geum Ga while Joo Ji Hoon plays elite lawyer Yoon Hee Jae.
