[Drama 2019] Beautiful World 아름다운 세상

@Friendly kitty tnx you. I'm my country and I think all in Nordic the school are closed after classes are over. The school are only open in the evening if some sport club has rented the gymnasium/gym. And if the students want to study after school they usually study at home, library or somewhere else. This isn't my first time seeing korean school drama but I always wonder how in earth the schools can be open after lessons and without teachers or someone watching them.  It just doesn't make sense to me. But also the pressure of the studying of korean kids also foreign to me. I always thank my parents for living in Nordic country. The school in free and there is no pressure at there wasn't for me. This drama makes me think more.

I think someone opened the rooftop. Maybe it was JS. I mean his dad is the chairman of the school so he could have the keys. And now days kids are really smart.

Other thing I been thinking. Most of the parents  think of their children studies and the teachers and principal  thinks only think about the school image. Does that also happen in real life. I mean I would think that that parents would also spare tough to the other kids well being. Or maybe I'm too selfless not see how someone only care about themself and their kids. And as a Teacher myself I really would worry more about the students than the school image.

Ep 2: hoooly crap, it was expected, but boy does this show make me mad :D

Spoiler

The vile gossiping ahjummas playing victim is sickening. I have to say, though, I love moo jin's (sunho's dad) attitude. Perhaps it comes off as naive and foolish to the rest of society to stay calm and apologize even when you feel wronged, but responding with anger and violence does not ultimately solve the problem and it was nice to see that belief represented.

And of course, thrilled to see seo young joo's han dong soo for the first time. It was sad to hear moo jin tell the principal(or vice principal?) how dong soo was doing well until the 2nd year, when, I assume, his and dong hee's mother ran off to leave the kids to fend for themselves. And after dong soo hears about sunho's incident, he says to himself "acting up when he can't even take care of his own son..." aw. I look forward to seeing him recognize his teacher's sincerity and effort, and turn his life around for the better. There's few worse fates than meeting the wrong parents, but at least dong soo has his teacher.

Parents will go to crazy lengths for their children, understandably, and we see the worst of that with joon suk's parents. Jo yeo jeong and oh man seok are fabulous as usual.

A Beautiful World: Episode 1

by lovepark

beautifulworld01-00002-2.jpg

Tragedy befalls a happy family, and all joy seems stripped from their lives. As they seek answers during this troubling time, the show reveals layer after layer of human depravity, and illustrates how everyday people slowly but surely destroy each other. While one family experiences the depth of grief, those around them seem to want nothing more than to forget and move on.

I watched 2 episodes ... I will try to discuss it in brief.

1. I really liked the moment with the operation, the sobbing of the mother, the change of the color of the moon and the shrill song behind the scenes. Shot very powerful!

2. I really like sister Sun-ho. Fighting girl! This clever!

3. Nam Da-reum is a good actor. It seems there was nothing on the screen, but already touched the heart. He is so sad, tender and touching ... I want to hug and protect. Moreover, I am now finally watching the drama "Come and Hug Me".:tears:

4. Daddy Sun-ho and Soo-ho I don't like. Not from scratch there were rumors that he is cheating on his wife.Surely he had something with the mother of a rich boy.

5. Mom of a rich boy terribly makes me angry and unnerving. She does not cover it - no. She is afraid for herself, she herself has done something bad and can blame herself for the fall of Sun-ho from the roof.

6. I wonder who sent the video to mom Sun-ho? Two options - or the son of a girlfriend's mother Sun-ho, or a rich boy. Well, or the girl "Ghost." Maybe she also shot this video ... And maybe she even has a phone and a Sun-ho notebook ....

@irilight I think because school laws has been changed and technology has evolved. And because teachers are adult and student are usually underages. And there been really awful things happening also in schools. teachers bullying students and worst case scenario even sexually assaulting them. School should be safe place for everyone.

In early 90's teacher could tell the problematic child to go out of the class room or the teacher could escort the problematic student out of the room. Now days it isn't even possible because smart phones.  And even when a another student is punching another student and the teacher intervenes he/or she could get fired. Because there is always the possibility that fight has been recorded and put on the internet.

I've been thinking that maybe an adult push sooho down if he didn't jump himself.  And who did the charmain wife talk to on the phone. I mean she said teacher.

I but the school bullying guidelines in the spoiler tag

There this guide line if your child has been bullied in school:

Contact the child's teacher or headmaster of the school and ask to arrange a meeting with the teacher/headteacher, the bullies and their parents. Discuss the matter in advance with teacher/headteacher and possibly also with the parents of the children who are bullying your child. In the meeting, make it clear to the bullies how bad the bullying makes your child feel. Try to keep in touch with the bullies' parents also in the future. If the parents don't seem to take the situation seriously, look for support amongst teachers, the school welfare officer and headteacher.

If bullying involves physical violence or threats of violence, you can contact the police. Also derogatory materials posted in the Internet may result in defamation of character charges against the bully or, in the case of bullies under 15 years of age, intervention of social welfare authorities.

In extreme cases, such as when the school does not take the bullying seriously or when bullying can not be stopped because of other reasons, the victim of bullying usually changes schools. A change of school has helped children in many cases, although sometimes bullying may continue also in the new school. It seems, however, that schools are different in this respect and it is very likely that bullying is dealt with more quickly in another school.

Before the bullying has stopped and also afterwards it is important to find environments for the child where they feel accepted and happy. Such environments can be found in hobbies or even in their own home garden with children of a similar age. Also a pet may give a bullied child the much needed experiences of caring and acceptance.

If your child tells you that the teacher is bullying them, it may be very difficult to sort out the situation. Sometimes the child may have misinterpreted the teacher and, for example, feels that repeated questions concerning homework are bullying. It may also be difficult for parents to imagine how different the behaviour of their child may be at school. A child may also try to get more time and attention from their parents in unexpected ways.

It is, however, possible that the child is bullied by the teacher. If you, after careful discussions with the child, their teacher and possibly classmates and their parents, still think that the teacher is bullying your child, try to talk about it with the headteacher. If this does not help, you can contact the municipal school authorities and then provincial government.

Situations where it's all about the teacher's word against the child's have, however, been quite difficult to handle. If you suspect that the teacher is bullying children, it's a good idea to talk to other students in the class and their parents and ask how they feel about the situation. If parents of children in the class intervene together in something they feel is not right, it is more likely that something can be done about it.

Bullying should be stopped, not only because of the victim but also because of the bully. Studies show that bullies are likely to be more unsuccessful later in life. For example they are more likely to commit crimes at a young age than others. Victims of bullying may experience trauma that will affect them into adulthood.

Being bullied is not easy. To illustrate this, many children are subjected to daily abuse at school that would automatically be considered a crime if it happened between adults. Nowadays, physical bullying is probably more likely to be dealt with appropriately than before. Violence is also a police matter. Verbal abuse, manipulation and exclusion from the group are, however, also very common forms of bullying that teachers, parents and other students must be able to react to.

This is the problem. Most teachers simply decide everything in such a way that bullies are taken out of the class or parents are brought to school. And it is better to try to find out the reason that the student has become so. I'm sure both the rich boy and the guy whose mother is friends with mother Sun-ho have their own reasons for doing what they did. And if you reach their hearts, then everything can change. And this is the duty of the teacher.

Most kid who are bullies has a reason for it but the there are kids who bullies for no reason. They think that what ever they do they can get away with especially if their parents are rich or powerful people.

@Friendly kitty your right about reaching out.  It is teacher duty. Students welfare should be one of the most important thing for a teacher.

Great acting by the cast. Cho Ja Hyun and Park Hee Soon. Very emotive. The hearbreak of a mother and a father knowing that their son lying in coma.

I need to see and I want to see more scren time for  Seo Young Joo  as Dong Soo. I keep repeating myself, SYJ is really actor. I also want to see Nam Da Reum scenes where he's not just lying on the bed. He's also another excellent talent. If  Son Ho is in coma,  then well just see more flashback. For ther 2 episodes  there  more scenes of the bully and his gang and  I get it. They have to establish story and go from there.

As I've said again, there's always back story as to why a bully will do terrible things. Mostly family problems  The bully is the son of rich school chairman. I don't want this sugarcoated though.

Sharing this wonderful SC  as it captured the emotional pain of  younger sister.

It's heartbreaking to see esp  mother suffering knowing what happened to the son. But the father is hearbroken too.

Most time  even if parents know everything about their children... they still don't know anything.  No matter how close knit and tight  family is, there's still that 1% they try to keep to themselves.

Seon Ho with that sad look.

I am sure that they will and they will be many. After all, they must tell us the background. As mom said, she doesn't know her son at all. With the help of other people's memories, a video (maybe not even one), Son Ho will show us more.

Oh yes, it was a heartbreaking scene. Poor, unhappy mother ... Such a sad fate. You will not wish the enemy ...:tears:

@joccu, thank you very much for answering in detail, and also sharing with us the guideline.

It is so very sad,  that teacher's hands are tied, so to speak. As you said, bullying needs to stop

A Beautiful World: Episode 2

by lovepark

beautifulworld02-00018.jpg

People seem to forget the power of words and how they can hurt or heal others. Empty expressions of sympathy, callous remarks in the name of gossip, and even the absence of words can leave irrevocable scars and create long-lasting trauma. As the Korean saying goes, “A thoughtlessly thrown stone kills the frog.”

@katakwasabi, @Friendly kitty, and every one else...  I apologize.

That's what I get for posting late into the night,  when I am tired.

Now that the episodes are fully subbed on Viki, I did watch today the 2 episodes of Beautiful World, and cried my heart out, esp. in ep. 1.

In ep. 2 I was more angry at the cover-up.

One of the things that is shocking to me is that Seo Eun-Joo  seems to have been the one to have seen Sun-Ho  right after his body hit the ground, but she did not call an ambulance or police.  Did she know then, or found out that her son is involved?  Even so,  at least get help and get the boy to a hospital. She is a mother too. How can she do that.

And later she proceeds to hide proof that her son is involved - all that without even speaking with her son. Does she think this is good parenting?

Just managed to watch ep.1-2...

Teared up a few times even in ep.1 alone. Great acting by everyone. Even in the scene @jongski posted few posts above, of SH's mom with the student, I cried too...

I'd be honest that I actually thought about SH wanting to give the flowers to JS's mother. Like maybe he has a crush on her. But then we are told there is another student whom might be his object of affection instead.

I'm wondering why the button is with JS's mom. There must be close contact then? Pushing and shoving? JS's mom saw the boys fighting maybe and tried to help her son, accidentally pushing SH off the rooftop? Or could it be it's just the two of them on the rooftop??

Oh..i just thought the button came of when he fell and the mum picked it up from the ground. I thought ep 1 ending was a throwback, I only realized it was a dream whem I read recaps on dramabeans. Lol

I'm actually wary of everyone in this including Sun Ho's own family. I've watched too many dramas and at times a beautiful family from the outside habours many dark secrets just waiting to be revealed. I don't think Sun Ho's family member pushed him over but I do think his family has their own dark secret. (Makjang has influenced my drama watching, i can't view slice of life without having elaborate thoughts hahaha)
