Is there a big difference between the initial version and the special edition? Does the special edition delete scenes from the initial edition? Which is the best version to view to understand the story?

The best version to understand the story is the original 50 episode one. The special edition is a heavily edited version focused on Lan Wangji and Wei wuxian and their relationship. A lot of the plot and scenes with other characters got edited out. The special edition edited scenes are not helpful for the plot, they're just extended scenes of lan wangji and wei wuxian's scenes that are not important to the plot which is why they weren't added but it does make the wangxian relationship even more obvious (linger eye gazes etc).

Wei wuxian's father and mother died on the night of the hunt, wei wuxian is the only heir of the Wei clan. When with Lan WangJi, weiying ended his own clan, if his father and mother in heaven knew, they would be disappointed. Lan sizhui is not WeiYing's biological child. Why didn't Weiying think of having a child to inherit the Wei clan? I think it is the author's mistake to not think about the issue of bloodline and the glory of the immortal cultivation family. Love of a night with a girl, that girl is pregnant, raising her own child, that child matures, inheriting the wei clan. That's what Weiying should do

Hahahaha what are you even saying, Wei Wuxian's parents had left him nothing to inherit, he was the son of a servant who then became rogue cultivators. Lan Wangji adopted Sizhui because of Wei Wuxian, and Wei Wuxian considers him as his own child. If you've only seen the series then you would know that he cares little about bloodlines or the clan since he's always felt he belonged to the Jiang Clan (well, until everything happened). He cares absolutely nothing about the Wei clan or his legacy since when he left to basically found his own clan it was with the Wen remnants. Afterwards? all he wants to do is be a rogue cultivator.

He ain't gonna do whatever you want him to do because it does not go with his character or personality, it would be OOC. He's not going to get a girl pregnant because he's in love with Lan wangji. Lan wangji is not going to marry someone because his heir is Lan Sizhui. Might as well just watch another drama that has that plot because that is never going to happen.

@ichaicha

1. Do you mean the abyss in the first episode? He died. WWX doesn’t know what happened to his spirit. Probably in a state of limbo in some realm.

2. To the other characters, he looks like Mo Xuanyu but the audience still sees WWX’s original face. Do you want to see another actor playing WWX after he returns to life?

3. Do you mean when Wen Chao threw WWX into Luan Zang Gang? The power in the sword he found inside the tortoise-like monster broke his fall. He later fashions the Chen Qing flute and Yin Hu Fu.

There is a BL site that has done the Eng translation of the novel and some member here will even distribute the epub version. Do be aware there are sexually explicit scenes which are not suitable for minors and in some countries, the distribution of such materials is illegal.

Hi Everyone,

I recently just finished the TV series The Untamed and I loved the show. I am now watching the donghua, Mo Dao Zu Shi (MDZS), on YouTube. Must admit the donghua provides a lot more detail and explanation than the TV series, but both are really great.

My one question is will there be a Season 2 of the TV series The Untamed? Does anyone know?

Thank you in advance for answering!

Meg

I am the one who created the ePubs for all three novels from the same author. Send me a PM with your email address and I can send them.

Yes, he died. Mo Xuanyu gave up his body to WWX’s spirit in exchange for WWX taking revenge on his behalf. It was never explained what happened to his spirit during all those years. He doesn’t remember anything.

@ichaicha @bluehibiscus The drama is different than the novel and other adaptations. In Chinese dramas and movies, it is prohibited to show reincarnation into someone else's body or something of the sort, so they changed it. he doesn't reincarnate into Mo Xuanyu's body. They never explain it but we can assume MXY gave up his body and life force to bring back Wei Wuxian's body and spirit. It's why WWX used the mask to hide his face in the drama. So he wouldn't be recognized. I wasn't sure about this either until someone told me and then i read the guidelines of what is prohibited :/

Oh really, I hadn’t realised. I knew they had made some changes to get past the censors but I just assumed this particular part followed the novel storyline as they didn’t really go into any specifics. I am still somewhat confused by the “ghosts don’t exist” premise although I heard it is a taboo for the censors. Aren’t spirits of the dead considered ghosts?

Where can one read the guidelines of what is prohibited?

@bluehibiscus Yes, I wondered why they added the mask in the first place to cover his face and that was the reason. It's why Wei Wuxian was afraid to be recognized; if he really reincarnated in MXY's body, he wouldn't have had to use it (and the writers wouldn't have had to add it). He could've just pretended to be MXY like in the novel and other adaptations.

You can find the information on the wikipedia page of film censorship in China, with linked sources/references even though those are in Chinese. There's probably more articles about it on the Internet or essays on film censorship if we look hard enough. it's an interesting topic. I still don't understand why though :/

"On June 30, 2017, the China Netcasting Services Association, an online broadcasting industry body subject to SAPPRFT and Ministry of Civil Affairs,[48]issued a set of guidelines, signaling detailed control on all forms of audiovisual web content, including films.[49][50]

  1. Defamation of revolutionary leaders, heroes, People's Liberation Army, armed police, national security apparatus, public security apparatus, and the judiciary branch, etc;
  2. Pornography and cheap taste: prostitution, rape, masturbation, incest, homosexuality, hentai, sexual assault, sexual violence, extramarital affairs, one-night stand, sexual freedom, wife swapping, prolonged or provocative scenes of physical intimacy;
  3. Feudalistic ideology which is pseudoscience: spirit possession, reincarnation, witchcraft, etc.
  4. Showcase excessive horror, psychological pain, hysteria, causing strong stimulation to senses and emotions with uncomfortable pictures, lines, music, and sound effects

Those that watched the live version and read the novel; how is the similarities and differences between the two? I started reading the comics, and looks like it goes back and forth between the past and present? I only saw the live action, so I want to know how close was the adaptation to the book? I wish I could have read the novel first though^^!!!

The live action adaptation is very different than the novel. The manhua is more faithful to the novel. In it, it jumps from the present to the past and to the present. You don't find out what happened to Wei ying in his final days until later on...that was the big mystery back when Exiled Rebels was posting the translation. Only those who read the Chinese version knew.

The adaptation also changes a lot of things from the plot and mixed things around (you probably noticed if you have read the manhua up to 100+).
