[Drama 2012] My Husband Got a Family / 넝쿨째 굴러온 당신

i think the 2nd brother's wife might have something to do with Gwinam ending up near some orphanage so far away from home. even if the little boy wander around & got lost ... he would have been found by someone near his area and taken to the police station and the family searched extensively for him for a long time. unless he was kidnapped by someone but he instead he was found wandering near an orphanage far away from home conveniently.

most likely that fake Gwinam is going to find out something and use that to blackmail her as he theatened to do  ... i think her reaction towards them finding the real GN is kind of extreme for someone who have only torn the photo of adult Gwinam and trying to get them to move to US so there's no chance of reconciliation. from today's kbsworld episode ... it would seem like the husband doesn't love her at all and her doting on the mother in law is most likely to stop him from divorcing her? although no idea why that would stop him since he doesn't seem that much of a filial son either. but perhaps he thought as long as she does his wifely duty and do all the filial act for him then he can get away with being labelled unfilial?

i really like YH's sister in law ... she's simply hilarious.

I remember this part and I believe she does play a part in Gwinam's missing. And now that Gwinam is reunited with his real family, she's always scheming to destroy his and YH's relation with the family. Oh..she's a hypocrite but pretend to be good and concern for her husband family.

I also dislike GN's youngest sister Mai Suk, she's so vain and talks without respect to YH. I can't wait to see her find out that the boy she's falling head over heels in love with is YH's brother.

In with the old, out with the new

By Kim Hyo-eun [so@joongang.co.kr]

Actresses in their 20s, who once dominated K-dramas, are hard to come by on the small screen, as of late. Experienced actresses in their 30s,

40s and even 50s have held on to the spotlight, reversing a trend that dictated casting for decades. Above left, Kim Hee-ae, 45, plays a lead role

in JTBC’s “A Wife’s Credentials” and above right, Kim Nam-joo, 41, plays a lead role in KBS2’s “You Who Rolled In Unexpectedly.” [JoongAng Ilbo]

Back in the 1980s and ‘90s, Korean dramas adopted the principle “the younger, the better” when casting heroines. Heartthrob actors in their 40s were often coupled with youthful beauties in their early 20s, at the expense of more experienced actresses.

But as of late, the trend has been reversed, with the average age of star actresses on the small screen shooting up to 33.4, according to a JoongAng Ilbo analysis of 20 drama series on national network and cable channels. Only five shows cast a lead actress in her 20s, while the other 15 feature actresses in their 30s and 40s.

Ten years ago, the scene was starkly different. Many veterans such as Kim Hye-ja (“Since We Met” from 2002) expressed disappointment in switching to supporting roles - typically playing mothers or aunts - as younger, less experienced actresses stole the spotlight.

Familiar names today including Kim Hee-sun, Jun Ji-hyun, Song Hye-kyo, Son Ye-jin, Kim Min-hee and Kong Hyo-jin all debuted in this era when they were in their early 20s. But today, now established actresses, they are holding on tight to their stardom.

“Dramas that portray the lives of working women in their 30s and 40s are getting more attention from viewers,” said Kim Sung-geun, a chief producer of “You Who Rolled In Unexpectedly,” which is one of the most popular drama series today, claiming a 30-to-35-percent share of the audience on average.

The hit drama centers on a working woman named Cha Yoon-hee (played by Kim Nam-joo) as her husband, who was put up for international adoption, reunites with his biological parents. With a new family right next to her, Yoon-hee faces an unexpected burden stemming from her new relationship with her in-laws.

According to experts, the shift represents a larger trend in Korean culture, mainly a reflection of women marrying at a later age and working more in their 20s.

But another catalyst can be found in so-called pretty boy craze that was sparked by the 2009 massive hit series “Boys over Flower.” While younger actresses are hard to come by on the small screen, many rising young actors are replacing their predecessors. “The main target audience of these drama series is made up of women, which means there are more of pretty and handsome male characters to entice female viewers,” said drama critic Gong Hee-jeong.

Lee Seung-gi, 25; Yu Ah-in, 26; and Kim Soo-hyun, 24, are just a few of the up-and-coming actors taking K-dramas by storm. Recent series such as “Flower Boy Ramen Shop,” “Shut Up Flower Boy Band,” “The Moon Embracing the Sun” and “Rooftop Prince” have all featured a majority of male characters.

These competing trends have often matched up actresses in their 30s with younger men in their 20s, couples seldom seen on Korean television two decades ago. Lee Seung-gi from “The King 2 Hearts” is nine years younger than his counterpart Ha Ji-won, while another couple from “Rooftop Prince” is comprised of Park Yoo-chun, who is four years younger than actress Han Ji-min.

In addition to the pretty boy craze, structural changes have pressured the prevalence of veteran actresses on screen.“Each broadcaster used to have a teen drama back in the ’80s where newbies could make a name for themselves, but this no longer exists,” Kim from “You Who Rolled In Unexpectedly” said. “I think it is part of the reason why we don’t see that many young actresses.”

The emergence of idol singers in K-dramas has also taken away opportunities for younger actresses. Yoona, Yuri, Eun-jeong and Uee, all are members of different K-pop girl groups, have dominated recent drama series. “Most idol singers learn how to sing, dance and act before they debut,” said an official from a major entertainment company. “Production companies also want them to be part of drama series due to the recent Korean Wave craze.”

Featuring K-pop singers has provided a major boost to drama ratings, according to industry insiders. Rising actresses, however, are getting the short end of the stick.

wow I am still trying to understand why this series has such high ratings .. although the storyline is ok but never imagine a ratings of 40% !

Not sure what other conflict they will introduce to this series . So far nothing "major" seem to be happening

Same with you - drama is not bad, but much weaker than Ojakgyo Brothers, which have avg. ratings 26-27%.

I also dislike GN's youngest sister Mai Suk, she's so vain and talks without respect to YH.  I can't wait to see her find out that the boy she's falling head over heels in love with is YH's brother.

i agree. Malsuk is sooooooooo annoying. i wished YH's brother will ditch her for real but since this is drama ... he will play her on his friend's behalf just to teach her a lesson but still fall for her in the end. but wow ... when she was practicing her double standards and talking back to YH when she herself was totally without manners herself ... i want to yank her hair. hahaha but even if she end up with YH's brother ... she will have the mom for her mother in law and i think that's a punishment in itself.

i really liked YH's character ... and how she's no pushover while trying to do what she's expected of in her new role with her husband's newfound family. i guess it helps that the husband is such a sweetie ... that makes it easier for one to have to compromise in putting up with difficult relatives.

Sometimes I watched this drama at KBSWorld. At first i don't like YH.Well tbh i dislike her hair style..lol But later after all the trouble and problem she faced with her hubby's new family,i sympathized with her.I agree with exupery,Malsuk is really annoying.I know she will become nice later but right now i dislike her the most. I can't wait the moment when she found out about YH's brother.GN is really a sweet husband.I find it cute that he's sometimes clueless about the culture in Korea because he grew up in States.I love it when GN takes YH's sides. Among the 3 sisters,i like the 2nd sister the most.I like her with YH's hoobae. (Sorry i can't remember all their names).I think their story what makes me interested to watch this drama.I know later on she will have a makeover,i can't wait for that too.

The older sister is also cute with her idol-oppa..lol Oh yeah,YH's sister in law is also really funny. Overall, this drama is quite interesting. I'll definitely keep my eyes on this drama.I want to know about the 2nd sister and that guy's story more.I wish there is their cut only available somewhere.

OMG!  I found someone that likes that couple too! I really like the guy, he can't help himself getting interested with the 2nd sister.  I'm quite sad that this drama is not getting much attention here in Soompi.  And I just watch the series in KBSWorld, the subs are not that fast as well...
