The webtoon did explain why SY is like this

      Reveal hidden contents

The big bro was the one who took YJ at the redevelopment area and left him there. After the kidnap SY asked their driver to take him to the site where YJ was left alone in cold dark place (i.e. thats why SY can sort of have this vision in his nightmares).  Moreover, SY saw YJ's scars, and YJ  having nightmares screaming at the hospital after being rescued and how their parents only have attention for YJ.  he also overheard nurses at the hospital commenting him giving false directions as to the whereabouts of YJ so that YJ parents could not find him sooner. SY became so overwhelmed with guilt and had a mental breakdown where he have this memory switch and replaced himself as the one who got kidnapped and YJ was the one who left him there....after YJ returned to home, YJ discovered that SY wore his clothes and took YJ's room and kept hitting YJ afterwards. YJ was at a lost at SY's craziness.  But soon after YJ started fighting back his bro and the brothers fight all the time when there were in same room.  The parents does not have a clue on how to stop it. when they took SY to see psychiatrist, the doctor said SY is in unstable mental condition and suggest they dont tell SY the truth yet. the father decided to send SY to mental hospital but mom was reluctant. YJ overheard the parents discussion and thought to himself that he is strong enough to stand it and if he also chose to accept SY 's side of things then no one will be upset anymore, so YJ decided to pretend amnesia.  He even apologise to SY for doing this bad thing to him and SY stopped hitting YJ from then on and their family seemed to return to peace.  Their parents changed YJ name from Sung Hyeon to Young Joon later because after the kidnap, they decided that the two sons' names are too similar and easy to cause confusion / comparison between brothers and thats why the name change.  p.s. that why YJ always said his bro is weak.  SY really is weak mentally.

My dear friend @Kasmic, thank you for directing me to review @princessfiana's post who shed so much like on the dynamics between LSY and LYJ. I pretty much figured out based on what LYJ said that his brother had mentally switched their roles. I have to admit that was very poor advice from the doctor because it gave no consideration to the younger child who had been kidnapped and the trauma he was dealing with; there was no plan it seems to help LSY deal with his actions and the guilt he was feeling.

Again, I appreciate you wonderful ladies!!!

If I recall correctly, they didn't lie to the media. The reporter told KMS that the news was covered up and no one knew for sure which son was kidnapped but one nugget was leaked, that it was a P4 boy. LYJ once told KMS he skipped two grades and was thus in P4 the same year as LSY. That's why she had originally thought (and told PYS she suspected) it could be LYJ, until LSY wrote about the kidnapping on his blog and she heard about the blog entry.

I don't think the kidnapper is related to the father. If she was his mistress and caused such trauma to the boys, it's not logical for the mother to be so calm when discussing the incident, especially with the father.

@chubbz, Thanks for jogging my memory in regards to KMS' research regarding the concealed identity of the two boys. There was something else that was mentioned in the drama that made me think it was publicly said the eldest son was the one kidnapped--not just LSY's blog and his parents--I need to go back and rewatch.  Because LSY was jealous of LYJ and the fact he was so smart, that's why I wonder if it was LSY that had a hand in helping the kidnapper to kidnap his brother.

In regards to the kidnapper, you are absolutely right, the father probably didn't have a romantic relationship with this woman, however, we makes me think it's possible is something that I've wondered about since episode 1.  It was when KMS and LJY had lunch with with parents.  LJY asked his parents if they ever had marriage burnout. The father choked on this drink and looked startled at his wife. His wife laughed (fake laughed) it off with a wink to the father.  The father then also gave a fake laugh as he looked at his wife as if they were passing some type of message between them.  That scene told me that something happened in their past.

To kidnap their son and then commit suicide (that's assuming she really died). It's also interesting that LSY lost his memory after fainting at the dinner table. Which is why it doesn't make sense for the parents to lie about what happened--it appears that LSY doesn't remember anything that happened, so they could have told the truth or just omitted that part. Why make him think he was the one kidnapped? KMS said that LSY seemed as if he was repeating what had been told to him.

So many questions I have. Again, Thank you for clearing that information up.

@kaoriharang I don't think that the woman who kidnapped LYJ was the mistress of his father. The interaction between the mother and father actually shows how much the father is paying attention to his wife. He notices very quickly, when she is unhappy and worried. The look she gave to her husband was different: from my point of view, she seems to be the one who decided to get along with the lie and her husband just followed her decision. We can see that the husband will do anything for her...

Now, I understand why LYJ lied to KMS all this time. He had realized that she had forgotten the whole incident which he wished, he would have forgotten himself. He also connected her fear of spider to the kidnapping. When he heard that she had never really forgotten the oppa, he wanted to avoid the topic as he feared that she might remember the kidnapping. However, LYJ doesn't know that his brother is not responsible: it was the whole situation (woman hanging in the air, dark hair and red shoes) that triggered her memory.

I don't think that KMS will be mad at LYJ for lying to her... In fact, she will feel even more sorry for LYJ who had kept this traumatic experience to himself all this time. The parents need to know that he never had amnesia. All this must be uncovered next week.

Well, I can't wait for some of the mystery to unfold because my analysis is a little all over the place.

I don't know about the relationship of the father and mother in the past, but this woman could have had some connection to the father. Yes the husband is paying attention to his wife, but it could be that the trauma the family went through taught him a lesson. He probably goes along with her out of guilt. Regardless of that mystery for which I am curious, there is a secret that it seems the parents wanted to keep away from the boys--not necessarily for the sake of both kids, just one. I had wondered if the oldest son was the product of another relationship the father had. I question why this woman targeted the youngest son and not the oldest one or both; why did they lie to the newspaper about it being the oldest son? Were they protecting the oldest son or the youngest one or were they protecting some other secret that could probably harm the company? It's common for kidnappers to kidnap the heir to a company, not necessarily the second son. As I said, I have questions.

When LYJ and KMS first met, he tried to give her hints as to who he was...little things he would say to her that we saw in flashbacks. It was in a flashback scene at a company dinner that he realized she didn't remember him. We could see his look of disappointment.  I got the impression that he was questioning his own memories at times. The oldest brother was also there at the kidnapping site and that's why he's having vivid memories of the scene, but I think his purpose for being there was different. I agree about the spiders. As I mentioned in a post a few pages back,  LYJ understanding her fear of spiders stems back to what he told her about the horrible shadows cast by the kidnapper hanging herself---a spider hangin on a web.

I don't think LYJ not being completely honest with KMS was to protect her from not remembering the kidnapping, I think it's because so many years of being told to keep it a secret and not talk about it, assuming the identity of someone else is a hard habit to break. He's been waiting for her to remember him.

At this point, I think KMS is trying to figure out why the whole family is lying about who was kidnapped. Her heart is breaking for LYJ because she knows he suffered, but at the same time has not been able to freely discuss it. That became clear after speaking to his mother.

Any who, I'm looking forward to this week's episode. Not only do I see your point of view and can agree with it, however, I also have these other thoughts and questions that I'm trying to reconcile.

    Glad too.

    It wasn't extended unnecessarily.

Do we really have a villain in this drama?

Big brother is supposed to be the villain but I simply can't hate his character. Sometimes there is this lost look he portrays.

Looking for a xter to hate

That's why I'm wondering what is up with the Big brother. I wonder if he's a child villain which caused YJ to get kidnapped in the first place. In one of the episodes, we learned that he fainted during dinner and lost his memory. I have to wonder if this was his brother's way of dealing with his actions; mentally telling himself that he was SJ (instead of YJ--his true identity); he was the one kidnapped because of his brother.

I have to wonder why the parents went alone with this for 24 years. I don't think there is any reason to carry on this lie for 24 years. It's like they tried to brainwash their own kids to believe a lie instead of he truth.

  6. Okay, watching with subs, I'm finally beginning to understand the trauma behind MS and YJ--this woman hung herself in front of them. So YJ told her it was just a spider. I thought it strange that MS wasn't expressing any trauma the way that YJ was. However, she was experiencing trauma, it was hiding behind her "fear of spiders"; hiding the hanging woman.

So now I have to wonder who this woman was that kidnapped them. As children, MS called her aunt, but YJ said she's not her aunt. However, there is some connection to this woman to make the family hide the truth. The brother has supressed his memory too--maybe to cope with his guilt in YJ's and MS' kidnapping. His memories could be due to the fact that he helped this woman--what he accused YJ of doing a few episodes back. I don't know, can't wait to see how this continues to unfold.

The drama, BTIMFL had a certain sentimental feel to it, I can see why the writer and director chose to have that couple play the parents and even used their theme music from the drama. It helped us viewers, when watching that scene, capture what the sisters must have felt remembering their parents--it brought back fond memories for me.

  7. I have to say that this episode has me excited for subs for a normal of reasons:

    1) I absolutely loved seeing Lee Min Ki and Jung So Min together again--if even for a short time. They have such natural chemistry together.  Because of their scene, I wanted to see more of Kim Mi So's parents.

    2) It appears that we're learning more about the kidnapping and kidnapper. It seems that LYJ's brother is confused as well. Can't wait to see what the conversations around LYJ's mother is all about.

    3) Loved that the OTP is becoming a "couple" in front of others.

    Can't wait for subs.

@aisling, I'm with you. I'm having major withdrawals too. It would be a shame if these two, JSM and LMK, are not in another drama together.  @yusefull, no you are not the only one.  Just like @dramaninja, I too stilll watch certain episodes.

  8. Sorry if this was already posted.  I can't tell you how excited I am about seeing Jung So Min and Lee Min Ki together again. I loved them in BTIMFL. So now we have 3 actors from BTIMFL....not including the director.

Jung So Min And Lee Min Ki Are Once Again Couple Goals For “What’s Wrong With Secretary Kim” Cameo

    Jung-So-Min-Lee-Min-Ki.jpg

tvN’s “What’s Wrong with Secretary Kim” has revealed what roles Lee Min Ki and Jung So Min will be playing for their joint cameo appearance!

As previously revealed, the two actors readily agreed to make a special appearance in the popular ongoing drama as they had previously worked with director Park Joon Hwa on “Because This Is My First Life.” They will also be portraying a married couple in “What’s Wrong with Secretary Kim.”

The two actors will play Kim Mi So (Park Min Young)’s parents when they were younger and will appear in a scene when she is having a flashback. In released stills, Lee Min Ki amusingly strums his guitar while leaning against rocks with a sincere expression on his face like the aspiring rock star he is. Looking lovely in a purple dress, Jung So Min huddles near a young Kim Mi So as they play with the sand together.

As if they were a real couple, Lee Min Ki and Jung So Min smile brightly for the camera in another image, making many wonder how Kim Mi So’s family, who only existed in her memories until now, will be portrayed.

    Lee-Min-Ki-Jung-So-Min.jpg

Lee Min Ki and Jung So Min are said to have had a fun time filming with director Park Joon Hwa, who they have not seen in a while.

The producers stated, “We thank Lee Min Ki and Jung So Min for making a cameo appearance despite their busy schedules. Their short but impactful performance as Mi So’s parents when they were younger will be one of the key points that will make ‘What’s Wrong with Secretary Kim’ more fun. We hope many will look forward to it.”

“What’s Wrong with Secretary Kim” airs every Wednesday and Thursday at 9:30 p.m. KST. Check it out from the very beginning below!

Just like in novel or webtoon actually, LSY as big brother has mental sickness not because LYJ is smarter and better in school, but also because he always has a melancholy feeling and maybe always thinking of selfishly. No wonder he has chosen his path as a writer cause he can write everything inside his delusional mind. I think SY character is better brought by LTH even though he is younger than the leads, but the truth that SY character is like a teenager who trapped in an adult man.

I haven't watched/read the webtoon, so I have no idea where the story is going. Not sure why the family is pretending that LSY is the one that was kidnapped when it was LYJ--from what I can tell so far.  I get the impression that LSY is pretending to have no memory of the kidnapping. I have to agree about LSY using writing as an outlet.

Btw, who does everything think the "oppa" that MS wants to find is? Is it YJ or his brother SY? I'm curious about the back story on them as children.

I actually think the 'oppa' that MS wants to find is YJ.  She wanted the blind date reporter to investigate a kidnapping. Based on YJ's fear of plastic ties and the scars around his ankle, I think he's the one that was kidnapped and the oppa that went missing in 1995.

The clueless couple lol.  I think both of them are in love it's just that they are so used to being around each other that everything becomes plain work and ordinary.

I wonder why Kim Mi So is keeping some pictures of him in some of her file folders.... ????

I am really excited to see how their relationship will move forward in the coming episodes.  Sometimes you only realize the importance of someone when you are on the verge of losing that person

@saved2K, Yes they are cluelessly, cute...   In regards to Kim Mi So keeping some pictures of him in a folder, that is common practice in the corporate world. It's probably a "Publicity Folder"--snapshots taken at all the events he attends.

Like you, I'm very interested to see how their relationship progress.

@dramaninja, from what I can see he's in love with her but doesn't know that is the emotion he's feeling; it's one of the reasons for 9 years he hasn't been in a real relationship with a woman. She's also beginning to realize that she has feelings for him. They both have been focused on work and being professional, and keeping their romantic emotions at bay/buried for 9 years---but now it's surfacing. I can't wait until next weak when his jealousy come out.

@justamom ah that explains the skill.  And the way he is able to use his whole body to act.  There are times he merely acts with his eyes, a slight twitch of his eyebrow, or a slight smile.  And most of the time, he just acts with the sound of his breathing or his voicenor his footsteps (which Ji An loved :) ).  No wonder the director had a lot of scenes where the camera was focused on his face and there are no other background sounds with him in it, except for the incidental ones like the train engine or people talking in the street.  PD was maximizing his lead actor’s skill in highly nuanced acting.

@akhenaten, I love your post because it hits on something I really like about this actor, the subtle facial expressions that helps tell the story, helps paint the emotions, expressions that let us know what the actor is thinking and feeling.

Same here--delurking.  I was thinking the same thing about our two leads.  I remember the kiss between Song Joong Ki and Song Hye Ki in DOTS and thinking they really like each other; now they're married.

Who knows---our leads in this drama always had a special chemistry to me; and the kiss is so natural.

  15. @sadiesmith, I remember you too; I truly appreciate your patience in my sharing my opinions.  I have to admit on MWHAATW, I had some strong opinions based on my interpretation of what I was seeing. I'm an avid reader and I always feel that the writer is trying to deliver a message....I hate when writers contradict themselves or they keeping making changes on the fly and forget what they said before (in that drama we had 3 writers). I felt there was quite a bit of that in the other drama, but it was also a drama that was overflowing with all my favorite actors and had some really good side stories.

I am a fan of LSK and I'm looking forward to this drama. I haven't seen any dramas by this writer, but I have seen dramas directed by the director. From the tiny clip that I've seen, I'm very optimistic that it's going to be good.

hah give me a break, on the contrary, when I saw the male lead, I immediately knew that I had to watch this drama, I feel like IU and Lee Sun Kyung will have great scenes together:heart:

To be honest, I'm not really a fan of IU or her acting. What I find missing in a lot of idols transitioning to acting is the subtleties of facial expression or emotions that shine through in their eyes, radiates from their body that comes through in a scene.

However, I'm looking forward to this drama. She's paired with a great senior actor. I'm hoping that this drama will show she has what it takes to make a role memorable and she can hold her own against a senior cast of actors.

I'll try to read them all before the preview 'landing' here because there will be a total madness and much more to read.

I came across this post (I was doing a little comparison)....Yes, this thread is over 1200 pages and going strong.  It was really a good drama.

So what happened to the comments and pages between Sept 2017 - Jan 6, 2018? Why were they deleted?

  18. I wish there had been an additional 2 or 4 episodes added. I hate extensions, however, I would love to know how Yool does with his company; I would like to know what happens between him and JA with TRex (her son). It's nice to see how JA has grown after her husband left her.

I would also like to know if CW has completely overcome his fear of fire. Since BoNa lost her job, what impact will this have on her family. I know the loss of her job is the way the writer's way of dealing with BoNa's crime, but she really should be in jail with her boss--she helped him commit those crimes.

This really was a light and good drama to watch.  It was a nice change from the angst filled dramas with a lot of ridiculous scenes.

Yes, her pride is her undoing.  Seems like she didn't understand or trust her friends which is a shame because they are such a wonderful, supportive group of ladies.  YY is so sweet and kind.  As you can tell I'm annoyed it doesn't look like she is going to get much of a comeuppance but I guess her own shame and guilt at what she did will be a punishment of it's own and she will have learned a valuable lesson.

When I went back to rewatch the episodes last week, it was clear from the beginning that BoNa didn't think very much of her friends and always appeared to look down on them. She had been with these women from an early age and still didn't trust them, thought ill of them--she thought they would look down on her for having a deaf father because she would have if roles were reversed; she projected her emotions on to them. I don't believe that these women ever displayed anything other than a kind, supportive heart towards BoNa.

This is my favorite drama airing after BTIMFL, but I wish the last two episodes were a little more realistic.

    1) I don't know if BoNa's tears were really out of guilt for wronging YY, or feeling sorry for herself like when she cried after telling her deaf father it was "hard".  When you scheme and use deplorable antics against your "best friend",  you're not a good person. It is unrealistic to think that YY would be all forgiving when BoNa has given her zero reason to be forgiven. YY is still suffering from her humiliation. I wish we had a couple of extra episodes to truly sort out the emotions and BoNa took steps to build her character.

I like how the writer contrasted YY's jealousy of BoNa (who always succeeded) to BoNa's jealousy of YY.  YY's turned to admiration of BN when she realized how hard she worked. That's what friendship is all about. We have the same with JA who admired her friends.

    2) Unrealistic to believe that reporters would be interested in a low level Bong and his cheating and misuse of his assistants. He's just not that type of headliner and no one would care. It would be different if he was the CEO and he was using his women employees like escorts...that would make a headline.

Bong would have been fired a long time ago after the second set of pictures were posted on the employee website of him having an affair with his admin.

    3) Cutter who runs around the company kicking office doors (although the kick in ep 15 had me lol), his temperament and underhanded antics to acquire business is not what you want in an executive leader.

    4)  To find out that the wife knew everything, but treated YY the way she did is extremely disappointing. Then why treat an innocent woman that way when you knew better; humiliate her in front of an international client?  YY's character is too unbelievable: she shows anger towards Bong and Cutter, but not towards the women who publicly humiliated, shamed her in front of co-workers.

Side Note:  I hope the Yool steps out on his own. I hope that JA and TRex help him. Those people who decide not to follow him, will be the ones losing out. He has a great business concept and he has an excellent gamer to help him market test.

While I agree I think he went over HR and personally requested for her. I think he is in a high enough position to do that and perhaps explained that it was untrue the allegations he himself put out and her coming back would  remove those allegations. I hate him.

Bong didn't go over HR, he went to HR to request YY.  HR then informed YY that she would be working for Bong. In most companies, even if the situation was explained and found to be false, HR will not reverse that type of decision--especially when there are pictures that could be misconstrued. I have a feeling that Bong and CW will receive their payback.
