  1. To be honest, the last two episodes were such downers--I got tired of the noble idiocy and lack of common sense in our female lead. I don't live remotely near North Korea like South Korean's and it seems I know more about the "do's and don'ts" that she does.

Glad the father is finding out the truth and glad she bought his brother's watch. This will be the clue he needs to understand who killed his brother.

@Phoenix Klaw, I can see a happy ending. Thankfully, they showed that he's a gifted pianist who lived outside of North Korea (I didn't know that was possible unless you defected). I can see the two of them married. I think that's why we were shown how their life crossed paths several times around the world.

  2. There were some subtle scenes that also stood out for me in this drama. I LOVE the way Kang ignored his aunt when she was yammering  like Charlie Brown's teacher of her plans to close the hospice center. She's talking and he answers his phone as if she wasn't there---I loved it.  It took all her perceived power away.

I could also appreciate the dilemma Joon is in, whether to tell his father the truth or not to tell him. His father truly loved his grandfather--not knowing he's not his real son; however, there is a part of me that thinks he knows the truth which would explain his hatred towards his own brother.  His father is so arrogant that I think the truth out in the open could help humble him.  Joon's mother is an opportunist with no real love other than how she can exploit the next situation or person to benefit her. She's only ever seen her son and husband as a means to an end---she become chairwoman. She could have pushed for grandmother to name her husband or her son, but she pushed for herself.

My heart broke for Joon in the flashback after his mother caned him for missing two questions on the test. That type of punishment doesn't foster love...I don't see how it can. It's one thing if he was stealing, cheating, fighting, etc.--habits that could land him in jail one day, but it was missing two questions on a test. Well at least we know he's good at heart and cares for his cousin.

  3. One thing I love about this drama is it gave the lead characters a profession--doctor and chef. It's not so much what their profession is that counts, it's the fact that we see them practicing their profession and we, with our own eyes, see how good they are at what they do. A lot of times a drama will say that the person is a fashion designer, but we never see them design anything. Or they may be a top notch lawyer, but we never see them in the courtroom winning cases. I love when a drama let us see these characters in their careers. I know I'm not the only one who wanted to sample the meal prepared by CY and the pork belly deliciousness prepared by Joon.

It's so sad when parents try to cultivate hate among the kids just for power.

In regards to the kiss..... I love when the hug seems real.

Its refreshing that both HJW & YKS are the same age too. They look very good onscreen together. Most drama nowadays, the age gap can be quite contrasting/huge. Btw, YKS is super tall? Love it when their characters stand close in proximity to eachother.

@greenwatch08, I agree with you that it's nice to have leads that are close in age.  I don't mind when they are not, but sometimes it can be distracting when the age gap is too much.

I will say though, at 5'7 myself,  I wouldn't say YKS is "super tall". He's only 5'9 about average. It's the fact that she's only 5'5 which makes him look so tall. However, that's the other thing that really works in this drama is their height difference. There are not a lot of super tall lead actors IMO, however, there are some like

    Spoiler

V.I.P. lead actor LSY is tall at 6'0. That Winter Wind That Blows lead actor LIS is 6'1. Crash Landing lead HB is 6'0, these actors can make most actresses seem short. My absolute most favorite male lead is JH is only 5'8  (Fated to Love You) while JN (female lead) is only 5'2 (Fated to Love You).

I'm glad Joon has the self awareness to not take after his parents ugh. So Kang's the true heir, but it looks like Joon's mom won't go down without a fight.......

I think this is the part of the drama that frustrates me. I don't think a chairwoman who is suffering from a guilty conscience of knowing that she passed on another man's child to her husband as his would then turn over the hospital to the evil daughter in law just to keep a secret of shame. She loves her son so much that she can't tell him the truth? Or she wouldn't insist on turning the hospital over to him instead?  But to give it to the daughter in law? Sorry, wish a little more attention was given to that part of the storyline.

I want Kang to have what is rightfully his, but at the same time, i also want him to pursue his dream of becoming a chef.

In regards to the polling, I'm hoping these two do not break up again. He has been in ignorance of her true identify for 12 episodes. However, if they were to breakup, I hope they meet up at his mom's restaurant....with her running the place.

  6. What makes this drama so good is I truly don't know what will happen next. I only have a negative opinion of North Korea based on what I've read and seen about the homage people give their leader (even though they are starving to death); so when Seri shows some of her independent  attitude, I feel anxious that she's going to get in trouble because she's in NK. She's meeting such wonderful people there, I wonder how it will end.

  7. Okay, I have to say I finally figured out the "feel" of this drama. It has all the "drama" of a 100+  episodes drama, but not all the 'angst' that goes with it. I'm only on episode 8 and there have been enough accidents, deaths, and attempted murder to complete a 100 episode drama. I'm only wondering what the next 8 episode holds for the lead 'couple'. I'm ready to see some 'romancing'/fall in love scenes because that tone was set in the very beginning of this drama and the thread carried through with CY's crush.

In ep 8, I knew the husband to the blind patient was too good to be true and I guessed right. I couldn't help but wonder why a man who claims to love his wife and is extremely affectionate towards her, would put her in hospice and not pay for an in home nurse--especially when he could afford it. (I would have loved to see more into their payback)

Now learning in ep 10 that she hurt her head and lost her sense of taste... So he lost use of his hand due to an injury which is impacting his career and she's lost her smell and taste impacting her career. Okay, so ready for the rain to stop.  Also, don't understand her need to keep it a secret when she's surrounded by doctors who could help.

One thing that that I absolutely love about this drama is the attention they pay to food preparation. Makes me want to get in the kitchen and whip up some Korean food. However, it does make me wonder how someone seems to be on the mid to late stages of Alzheimer is still cooking in the kitchen. I'm fearful that she's going to burn down the kitchen before this drama is over.

One thing that I absolutely hate, and I mean hate, about this drama is the fact that Lee Kang as a doctor smokes. I don't hate it in just this drama, I hate it in every drama where the lead smokes; bad for health, causes cancer, and breath smells horrible.

  8. @40somethingahjumma, I agree that there is a quality to this dramas that draws me to watch the next episode--might I even say, "anticipation". I'm currently on episode 6 and the most pressing question I have at the moment is, "Did Quizno approve for them to market their sandwiches as a birthday gifts that are edible after more than 6 or so hours with no refrigeration?"....

I did feel sorry for the brother for the first time at his guilt that he may have caused the death of the old man waiting for his children. However, when I think about how the writer has poured it on thick for these two leads (whom I love--my favorite actors), I'm wondering what is there motivation to keep going.

    Lee Kang:

    1. Lost his father

    2. Scalded his arm making her candy

    3. Almost drowned after getting in a fight with his cousin who hit him over the head

    4. Lost his mother in the department store disaster

    5. Hateful grandmother and relatives that wouldn't even let him give his mother a proper send off

    6. Hateful relatives that schemed for him to be sent to the war zone to get rid of him and he knew it

    7. Seeing the kids explode before his eyes and he also sustained severe injuries and almost died...again (family gave up on him, but those working with him never did and nor did his best friend)

    8. Relatives trying to give him cases where patients die so he can be blamed for their death

    9. Got in a car accident which resulted in additional injury -- have to wonder if cousin did his best (are there no other surgeons in this hospital?)

    10. Shaking in his hands which means he can't perform surgeries

    Cha Young:

    1. Mother starving the girl in order to force her into a career she doesn't really want

    2. Involved in the department store disaster (I hope he learns it was his mother who gave her comfort during that time)

    3. Abandoned by her mother at an early age

    4. Due to the incident is plagued with episodes PTSD

    5. Has a freeloading brother who follows her around like a boulder around her neck--she's in debt up to her eyeballs because of him

    6. The man she has loved her whole life seems to hate her

    7. Got in a car accident which she almost died.....again

    8. Unfairly treated by others (while also loved by many)

    9. Her freeloading brother (I would have pretended to have amnesia too...

    10. Her freeloading brother......:(....I hope he receives some development. She can't move forward without him dragging her backwards. Although, I will say that he's also her biggest cheerleader...

Again, I'm excited to see how the writer will help heal these broken people. I must say that I'm a huge fan of "Something In the Rain"--that was an unexpected treat. It had a realism to it. This drama has that same element too.....although, I'm ready for some sunshine.

  9. @40somethingahjumma, I'm only on episode 5 and it's going from interesting to depressing. I'm a little tired of all the death and pain at this moment. There is a saying, "When it rains it pours". Well, there is a lot of pouring rain in the lives of Cha- Young and Lee Kang; if it's not the death of a love one, then it's an accident or an illness befalling one of them. I'm hoping for some sunny days for these two. I'm ready for the two of them to cut ties with their families; her lazy cheating brother and his scheming relatives.

  10. Just started this drama, but I'm already excited to see where it goes. I will say that anyone who eats left over food that someone else was eating in a public place and a person they don't know, grosses me out....makes me question their hygienes. This is a hospital where sick people go--wouldn't be eating food left by a stranger.

    That aside, good start.

  11. I promised myself that I would not start watching this drama until it only had 2 episodes left. Well, unfortunately, I watched the first 5 minutes and was instantly hooked. Really loving this drama because I don't know what to expect. It also has a wonderful cast of actors with a bit of mystery. These two were meant to be together....I love the little scenes at the end of each episode that shows how their paths have crossed in the past.

Can't wait for the new episodes.

So much mahjong... first 20 episodes were a pain for me because the main actress playing the character was so dumb! Errrhhhh

I found this comment and it summoned up my feelings exactly. I don't like skipping episodes, but I cannot take the dumbness or stupidity of the lead female another moment. Actually, all of them have stupid, blind tunnel vision logic. I'm trying to get to the perfume portion, but I don't know if I can take another moment of this drama--it's just too frustrating to watch. The writing is over the top.

  13. To be honest, I was really disappointed in this drama. It started pretty good.  The things this drama had going for it was a great cast of actors. Another thing I loved about this drama was the music. Maybe, I'm still looking for another well written drama like the Story of Ming Lan or maybe another drama like Mother--realistic with a good plot.

As it progressed, it became even more unrealistic and the premise became very frustrating. The whole office treating her like she had a disease because they found out she had a college degree and didn't list it on her resume. You don't have to list your complete work history or schooling on a resume. The fact that you had a useless president of the company just only made it worse. What was even more frustrating was the oxymoron plot: she lied about her education, we must fire her. However, the president find a button on his office floor that he correct assumes fell off the office manager's shirt, so she pokes out her chest for him to sew it back on for her. Or the scene where she's clubbing and dancing suggestively in front of a male employee.....yet, they want to fire a hardworking woman who has proven herself just because she lied about her credentials because no one would hire her saying she was over qualified, but hadn't worked in years?  That type of stupid plot line really irritates me because it's not logical. I also didn't like the editor who kept chasing after men and running to their homes or her continuing to get falling down drunk.

Lastly, I don't like that the writer made her a divorcee and a mother in title only. Why not just make her a woman who was caring for elderly parents who passed away. Her being a divorcee or mother, really played no role in the drama.

I've watched dramas for years, kinda which they would go back to some of the much older plot lines when they truly developed the story and characters.

The finale was, for me, a bit disappointing.  It was too neatly tied in a bow considering the horrendous circumstances that resulted in the death of Kim Hye Na.  Han Seo Jin keeping KHN's identity from her husband, her cruelty towards KHN, her complicity in the cover up of the leaked test questions that led to KHN's death was unforgivable (even if at the end, she relented and reported the crime to the police).  Her actions warranted her husband leaving her.  Kang Joon Sang did not exhibit enough remorse after he learned that he killed his own daughter.  He shed a few tears, promptly went back to his amoral wife and played happy family with their daughters.  Resigning from his job to assuage his guilt was not enough to compensate for his throwing out his daughter from the OR.  Instead of his colleagues asking him to stay, they should have condemned his action.  Afterall, who wants to have a doctor who makes critical decisions based on political gain?  At best, he was a mediocre doctor with a trail of complaints from his patients.

I finally made time to watch this drama. It was better than I thought it would be, however, the ending was a bit disappointing for me.

@sheherizade3, you basically took the words out of my mouth with your post. I can't see a husband staying with a woman who purposely let him kill his daughter by keeping her mouth shut. I don't see how his last minutes with his daughter will ever leave his mind as he sent her to her death....his wife is also to blame.

The one line where I thought the assistant to the "Coach" has lost his freaking mind, is when he told her as she was about to be captured, that he would never leave her because he had been on drugs and she helped him. WTH?!! You rather be an accomplice to murder than on drugs?

Lastly, these kids where spoiled and disobedient to the end. Although the grandmother was out of control, the kids being so disrespectful wasn't satisfying at all; it was quite disappointing.

The story was captivating for sure. Just wish the writer had kept it more realistic towards the end.

  15. Marathoned this drama over the past couple of days.  I have to say that it was a pleasant change to see Namgoong Min in a different role--other the silly lead male.  However, I have to say that the drama is over the top and every "doctor" in this drama should have their license revoked. They exploited their knowledge of medicine for their own selfish needs whether it was for greed or revenge. The drama needed some balance.....a reality check now and then.

Side note:  It was interesting to see the use of oversized SUVs.  I think this is a first for me in my k-drama watching.

  17. This is the most intense drama "MOVIE", because it's filmed with the quality and writing like a movie, I think I've ever watched.  The whole time I kept thinking--what's going to happen next, what's going to happen now.

@Auntie Mame, I agree about the speed of zombies in movies; however, I thought they were super fast in Zombieland and World War Z.

This drama was very well done.

CSH’s love might be shown in the way of let go KJH because she concerned him too much as KJH’s mom pointed out.

In ep15, CSH has been back to look unfeeling as in early episodes again.

Let think about a woman who meets a man who dearly loves her as KJH and she loves him so much too, he is a very good person which she might meet only once in her life esp. he is the one whom she loves dearly BUT she has to let him go from her life, how did she make her mind to decide with actions?!

KJH&CSH’s own being could be the complement for each other.

Anyway, I really wanna see CSH’s fight for KJH in a way of seizing and treasuring him too because I knew KJH will be very glad from CSH’s action to the max.

Sorry to shorten your post. I agree that the writer is probably trying to depict this as a type of "noble" love...."I let you go because I don't want you to be hurt...... by other people talking about you"...  Not because it might put your life in jeopardy, but because I don't want you to be the object of gossip......that's a little weak for me. When you're truly in love, "gossip be dam.....ah...Richard Simmons!!"

I think that most of us who have been fortunate to fall in love at least once in our life, know that love makes you a little crazy /passionate and you're willing to risk a lot for the person you love--healthy love, not psychotic love.  I see that crazy love in KJH, I want to see some of that crazy love in CSH.  I want to see some of the pulling and tugging KJH is doing be reciprocated by her doing a little pulling and tugging.  Love is about two people fighting for it.

All of that aside, the writer has made it clear to us that these two people are very much in love. I also only see a happy ending for them because there is really nothing that should keep them apart.

  19. When I step back and look at this drama, I realize that JH has been the one fighting for their relationship; the one that has been pulling her along. We have CSH's father who has also took a step to free CSH completely from her ex and his mother in law. I'm a little disappointed at how easy CSH is willing to give up on love, first love, without a fight.

I think back to a situation that happened in the U.S. between an interracial couple who fell in love during the 50's/60's when the laws were against them. They still got married and started a family. They were harassed by the government and community at every angle for years, even tossed into jail a few times, pulled out of their beds in the middle of the night, but they never gave up on love---they fought for it; even up to the United States Supreme Court--the highest court in the land.  It would have been so easy for either of them to step back and give up on their love, but they didn't---they both fought for it against all the odds.

Even in ep 15, it seems that JH is the one suffering the most. I want to see CSH fight for their love. I need her to talk to JH's mother and snap her out of her foolish thoughts that she can protect JH from people talking---people will always talk.

I hope in this last episode she fights for him. If not, she will be he same as in her marriage--going along with the flow while others work on her behalf for her happiness......her ex, her father, JH, Manager Nam, etc.

    Spoiler

Side note:  Not sure why the writer used the father this way to help CSH. Not sure how many families want to be in-laws with criminals. If JH's mother had concerns about this, I could understand a little better.

  20. I can't wait to watch this drama with subs.  All I can say from the little bit I've seen is the mother needs to watch, "Finding Nemo".  The mother said she knew she ripped out the CEO's heart....what about the fact that she's also ripped out her own son's heart.  It doesn't matter who you're with, all relationships are going to have problems; you can't protect your kids from hurt when it comes to love.

Can't help it, I still think the mother is extremely childlike.

  21. Sadly, the mother looks so weak when compared to CSH. She's passive, possessive, and naive all rolled into one. She doesn't want her son talked about--welcome to the real world. EVERYBODY is talked about at some point in their life. The comparison about how a mother's love won't fade vs CHS love will.  Does she want JH to remain single for the rest of his life. The mother is really disappointing to me because she seems childlike in her thought process. I'm not saying she doesn't have a right to worry about her son and the type of woman he marries, however, she's going a bit too far for the wrong reasons in my opinion.

On a different note, I love the depiction of the moon embracing the sun at 2:15 into the video.  Reminds me of the drama TMTETS.

The dads have been the best.

I understand JH’s mom but I can’t help getting annoyed by her hahahaha really I’m not feeling the moms in this series. Based on the preview, is SH gonna do a “WS move” where she will have a fake affair? Or simply break up with JH. But anyway, I’m pretty sure they’re gonna break up and have separate lives but after a year or more they’ll meet again and have a happy ever after. JH gonna be a professional photographer for sure.

@Josh Marquez, I have to agree. I can understand the mothers concerns, but I was also annoyed at her.  The mother comes across as sweet and very timid. The mother to me is one of those types of people who live her life to please others and never steps out of her comfort zone. Sadly, she's wanting them to break up because of what people are saying and not due to anything that CSH has done.  Maybe it's just me and the world I operate in, but neighbors and friends (even strangers) when they find out you're working for a good company, are aways pressing to have there resume passed along with a good referral.

I felt really sorry for CSH because she's truly a lonely woman.
