  1. @partyon ~ what I found troubling about FL and her family was contempt for pretty much everyone and the constant paranoia.

I get it -- they are rich and so people want to use them. so their way of handling it is to put everyone down so that they can't be taken advantage of. this includes all the sons-in-law who came from lower status -- now why would they purposely choose all these men? because it is easier to manipulate people who are lower than you and dominate them. they do this with constant disrespect, threats and intimidation. then they wonder why they are lonely. eye roll.

FL telling her brother kwakkie not to disrespect her hubby just made me eye roll. if she felt so strongly, why didn't she speak up at the family meeting? why does she let her family steam roll him and act like it does not matter. she is letting it happen and therefore, becomes a passive participant in the bullying of ML.

as for ML, I thought he got gold digger thoughts and decided to stick it in for the three months and maybe love bombing her in order to get the will re-written in his favour. I did wonder if FL was really sick or just lying as a way of manipulation. I watch enough true crime to know that people are bizarre -- sometimes they make up diagnosis as way of emotional hostage.

Oppa Oh I need more filler on my neck @rocat

see, it is confusing right. those huge lines on his neck. I can't tell if it is because of age or because he lost weight weirdly or some skin problem. his neck does not match his abs and his face... :sweatingbullets:

whole of ep 1, I was thinking, "he kind of got old" and I was confused by how he has age lines on his neck but no corresponding wrinkles on his face. guess, he put fillers or something? I am confused.

So not sure who all are watching Queen of Tears, but there was an interesting article today about the real life couple the story might be based on:

    https://www.koreaboo.com/stories/uncanny-similarities-queen-tears-bears-real-life-heiress-story/

    @Ameera Ali @kokodus @sweetroad @rocat @kingpin

Apparently the Samsung heiress went undercover as an intern in her company and that's how she met her husband. I really thought they only went undercover in dramas, but apparently it happens IRL too.

not sure if I will get around to ep 2. the FL is not really likeable and none of her family seem like real people. instead they all seem like a horrible bunch. rather than a love story, I want the ML to get divorced. better to have self-dignity and respect which is why he is so miserable. so if that is the real life inspiration, no wonder the divorce got nasty.

What did you all think of Episode 1? It was interesting to see that most of the episode was from Baek Hyun-woo's perspective - they're making him a complex character already, which is great. Hong Hae-In is so cold so far, but she seems like a wounded ice queen - curious to see what made her that way, if they develop any backstory. The episode started out pretty slowly and honestly I found it kind of cheesy at first, but the crazy memorial scene was the best! And it was more engaging after that.

@partyon Kwakkie is a happy lazy bum in this one!

my favourite scene was when the psychiatrist calls up his wife and tells her that he loves her and she hangs up on him LOL. then he sighs and says, "yes I am happy". it cracked me up and reminded me why we all love gossip so much. when we hear other people's misery, we realize that our lives are actually not that bad. hahahahh... too bad that it was just a cameo. I would have found it fun to keep seeing him...

also, am I the only one disappointed that we never got to see those cows that he was bragging when he proposed to her? @Ameera Ali ^_^

Even he is smarter than YoHan who hasn't contributed to any of the plot.

Only way I would find YoHan a little less boring is if he turned out to be the mysterious person who is messing with chairman, JiHoon and DaJung by sending the info about the accident.

How are these two so bad at cheating? They are surrounded by cheaters in the drama who got away with it for successfully for a period of time, including their own spouses, and yet these two are being so obvious about cheating and that too in the same house. FACEPALM.

They need cheating lessons from Serin, Sang Cheol, Chairman, Noel... I would say Ji Hoon but he keeps getting caught on purpose. hahahhaha...

Only you @maribella  will state the fact. I blame the writer for Da Jung stupidity.  She made Da Jung very naive and stupid.
I think the writer believes the FL has to be dumb until all the secrets have been revealed before she becomes really smart.

I can't decide if it is the characterization or the acting but something is off in this drama. There are moments when there is good acting like the conflict between Ji Hoon and chairman.

However, when it comes to DaJung, mostly it falls flat. It feels like the actress is really trying but she seemed more real in Second Husband. Here, everything seems so flaky. For all her revenge, she doesn't seem to have the push or the drive or focus to make it happen.

Why is this woman bothered by puppy YoHan? It makes the revenge arc weak because we can't feel her frustration or energy. Instead, we have romantic angst. Seriously? Facepalm. So far, there has been no moment where the character of DaJung really stood out.

Whereas, chairman, SR, Noel, JiHoon are over the top but at least on point enough to make them interesting to watch. Even Sang Cheol and his mom are fun to watch.

Both the FL and ML are really just meh. YoHan and DaJung just make me bored. So I just check in on the drama every few days or in the weekend.

@joccu -- I hope when the case concludes, the court will tell us why it happened. the entire case is just strange.

    Spoiler

no idea why hubby #2 got involved -- it is really bizarre that he would fly in just to help his ex murder. so the reason must have something to do with vidhie.

as for driver, he was paid -- so plain simple greed.

@joccu ~ forgot to add about one more angle about the forest

    Spoiler

So there was no missing person case registered for sheena. Another reason why rural police department just reburied the body. Rahul tried really hard to file a missing persons report but he was thwarted by his father as well as Indrani. The tapes show them both gaslighting the poor fella into thinking he is crazy and still hung up over a breakup. Also, Peter apparently thought that it wasn't a real relationship and Rahul just did it to get back at his father over the divorce and marrying this strange chick. So police were basically told that Sheena ran off after she didn't want to be used as Rahul's revenge tool. Very makjang drama-ish no?

    regarding vidhie:

    Spoiler

vidhie has a party girl rep and so the interpretation is that she went with the money. after the mother divorced Peter (the stepdad), she did well with the alimony. Since she is not necessarily accepted by Peter's family and they are not going to keep funding her party lifestyle, she went back to her mother. That is the view of many

Indrani is pretty much seen as guilty and I don't think the docu changed that view.

There are also plenty of rumours about Indrani herself.

    Spoiler

One was that she worked as some sort of high end escort or essentially slept around her way to the top. That is how she met hubby #2. If you noticed, the friends of hubby #2 made this weird statement about how Indrani had this weird charm and his wife just rolled her eyes. Also, she nabbed hubby #3 is essentially the same way she hooked hubby #2 according to some rumours.

Most of what she says -- including her backstory -- people don't buy. For example, her accusation about her father, people think that she made that to get some sympathy and try justifying abandoning her children. Relatives and neighbours have disputed her claim and said that she hooked up with hubby#1 as a teenager and got pregnant.

Something the docu doesn't cover in detail is Indrani's secretary who is also one of the witness for the prosecution

    Spoiler

The secretary was the one who created the email accounts and went about closing bank accounts, sending resignation letter and basically closing the details on Sheena's presence. The secretary wasn't told anything other than Sheena has already moved abroad and so Indrani was doing the necessary

what the docu doesn't cover coherently are the conspiracy theories and lot of it is about money

    Spoiler

#1 conspiracy -- so they briefly mention INX but they don't go into detail about how the company went bankrupt and investors didn't get back the money. There were rumours that it was siphoned off but they couldn't find the bank details. One police theory was that Sheena was part of money laundering (though it might have been involuntarily). Basically when she was a student living in their house, they opened bank accounts in her name and those offshore accounts were used to siphon off the money from investments. The theory goes that Sheena was killed in order to regain that money trail. There are rumours that initially Sheena's death was kept on the low radar because some investors got their money back and they didn't want others finding out. This is the main conspiracy and why they think Peter might also have been involved. He was named as one of the co-conspirators because Indrani made the call from the forest to him.

#2 conspiracy -- It is unclear why hubby #2 got involved at all and people find that really strange. One theory is that Sheena and Rahul getting married would somehow cut out Vidhie from the family inheritance. Peter comes from some rich family. So the theory goes that Indrani somehow convinced hubby #2 to get involved in order to protect Vidhie and Indrani from going broke. Again, it is unclear why their marriage would affect Vidhie financially but that is one conspiracy...

#3 conspiracy -- this was touched upon but they think that Sheena and Rahul getting married would have brought out the makjang drama. When the news came out, socialites were shocked because no one knew about this family's dynamics. The people who met Sheena just thought she was some poor relative who was staying there because she had come for her studies. But then a murder cover-up wouldn't make sense because Sheena and Rahul were in a relationship for years and were already living together. Everyone in Rahul's mom family were already on board and they had accepted her. Rahul moved back to his mom's hometown after Sheena's disappearance and the hillside town is very far away. So there are rumours that was the plan after marriage anyway. The question is that since these two were already pretty much not in high society, what difference would it make if they got married?

#4 conspiracy -- There are rumours that it was INX investors who tipped off the police to open this investigation because some of them didn't get their money back. So they had discovered Sheena's disappearance and basically called the alarm.

    As for the forest

    Spoiler

A crime podcast covered this but this particular region is known for people dumping bodies. So one theory goes that the local police station routinely just took notes and then reburied bodies because there were just too many cases. They don't bother to file the reports. Another theory is what the docu covered -- the local police was asked not to file a report by someone influential, meaning a cover-up.

So overall, yes, this case was super weird. As one news anchor said, initially people thought of it as some property dispute between sisters and there wasn't that much attention. But it was only when the makjang element came out -- she is the daughter and she was in a relationship with the stepson -- the news really blew up. Plus, Peter was a really big deal because he had been CEO of Star (part of Rupert Murdoch's media empire). He initially denied that Sheena was the sister, then he claimed he didn't know, then he claimed that Rahul had told him but he had thought it was too absurd to believe. So on and on it went. If it had been just a property dispute between sisters, it would have been forgotten quickly because there are lots of cases like that. Till date, the case is weird because we don't know the real reason behind the murder and we don't understand why of the people involved.

@partyon @joccu @Ameera Ali ~ I watched the netflix doc on the sheena bora case and here are my impressions. I am not sure if the docu is very coherent but then again, the case really isn't. hahahahhaha... So it was more or less a retelling of how it played out in the media and all the bizarre twists and turns. Essentially this is a real life makjang drama.

The case is still ongoing and so it was hilarious to hear the interactions between the accused (Indrani) and her lawyer -- the poor man looked like he wanted to smack her a few times.

The daughter (Vidhie) continues to look like a switch bait player who is only focused on money -- that is the impression that people have of her. So more or less, there was nothing new really.

I was aware of the recordings made by boyfriend (Rahul) and so that was interesting to hear during the series -- the poor guy was frantic and did seem to love the girl.

However, I am not sure if the series would be as interesting or straight forward to those who are not familiar.

They actually didn't cover many of the conspiracies or the questions that the case raised. For example, no one knows the exact reason why the case was tipped off 3 years after the murder happened. It is not covered in the doc but the police started investigating after the police chief received an anonymous tip from some lady. That has never been revealed who it was. No one knows why this happened 3 years later and not earlier.

There are lots of other stuff that the doc didn't quite cover. Feel free to ask questions if interested. I did watch it as it played out in the media and more or less remember stuff.
