for every break-up specialist, there is a matchmaker momma? hahahahha.... but what to do when you agree with the break-up specialist as the couple does seem idiotic? as in the reasons seem actually sane and practical? :sweatingbullets:

and some of these matchmaker momma get so excited that they pick the wrong guy! maybe they just want to shop for the wedding hanbok! :D

#5 - Bad boy turn good cos of the girl.

this trope really drives me nuts because it makes it seem like love has some restorative powers. if that was true, won't the world be a better place? guess, it is just fantasy no?

here's the list so folks can get numbering right!

    #1 - lazy second lead

#2 - Memory loss due to a certain accident or trauma.

#3 - Annoying prospective mother in law who tries to break up the couple.

#4 - Annoying 2nd leads (be it male or female) who tries to break up the couple.

#5 - Bad boy turn good cos of the girl.

#6 - Love at first sight.

but you have to understand that people always tend to think oh, this is the Internet, we can post whatever we want, then this mod comes along and shut it down(it’s kinda like stopping someone from saying things they like or hate). It’s annoying to them, because freedom of speech is gone.

depending on where a person is from and what the rules (cultural + legal), there are different attitudes that come in to play here. some people see it as right while others see it as unnecessarily rude. there are different ways to say the same feel. so yea, especially as we are international community, these rules are very important as it would be very easy to misunderstand each other. and that does happen from time to time.

ah we are building a list! @DeePlatonicFan ~ just edited your post to include numbers. so people can keep adding to the list..

#2 - memory loss -- it is silly but am partial to the angst caused by memory loss when it is done right. a drama that I really enjoyed was birth secret. she was so confused to find this husband and child and could  not believe that she married such a man considering she is super educated, genius and rich.. her journey was actually fun to watch.

@Lmangla i agree with the too many pics bit . People don’t realise why we have to put many pics in spoilers , cuz they don’t experience slow internet speed like some of us here .

yea, they don't know it and so it helps to explain the logic. once people understand why some of these rules exist, they are lot more understanding and realize that mods are not there to ruin the mood for the others.

I watched Angel's mission, it is light, and has some comedy, but not very deep. I am watching just for fun. No need to get so worked up like they are doing in the main thread. Really I am rather surprised why they are showering the thread with sooooo many photos. it is very exhausting to have to dig through all those videos and photos. the first 16 pages are all instagram. I just got my eyes rolling. Anyway, I will just watch on my own.

That's what happens when there is a big fanbase of the leads. Both ML and FL have their own fanbase and every single picture of them shooting or BTS will usually be uploaded to the thread. It gets tiring I agree when we want to focus on the story.

@nohamahamoud2002 @ktcjdrama ~ maybe because I was new but in the first year at soompi, in one thread, I actually complained!! hahahah... they were initially surprised at why I was complaining but I told them that too many pics means soompi keeps crashing at my end and I wanted to chat about how good the actors are and the drama was -- I actually was enjoying the drama. but strangely enough, the fan base listened and actually started commenting, putting pics in spoilers and so it ended up becoming pleasant. actually became fun.

so yea, different experiences with fan bases. some have a good sense of humour. especially if it is a comedy drama and so they are able to separate the actor from the character. in that case, the entire thread ends up having a ball. in some, yea, you have to remind them that it is a criticism of the character and the actor is actually doing a good job if we are hating him/her. so then they are sort of reluctantly okay.. but in some cases, better to exit the thread!!!!

LOL... it was... saw the stills before I saw the episode as am behind...and assumed that it was accidental. like she trips and falls on him and ends up on this awkward position where her hands are under his arm pits. but no, he places it there! LOL... and it is even not hypothermia/frost bite cold. and her heart is going dugun dugun. if it was some of us like me and @triplem (excluding @thistle here LOL) , this would be our faces.

There are so many of them!! So if I post another lazy second lead, does the number become #1a? Or a new number 2? New number is for new trope?

kekeke... no we are not naming second leads. just different tropes that we see in dramaland that we find hilarious. here's last year event which just made us laugh.

here's the first 10 we named:

#1 - rescued from truck of doom

#2 - The childhood friends turn into lovers
#3 Cliche pull and push realtionship
    #4 Noble idiocy separation
    #5 Rich boy poor girl
    #6 Angry Encounters
    #7 The shopping/makeover scene
    #8 the rooftop room
    #9 Piggyback ride
#10 Half-way through the drama amnesia trope

    to see more,

  10. hi ya chingus! dramaland is full of tropes and some of which we can predict in our sleep! hahhaha... but still there are some we love, some we roll our eyes at and some we just hate. but they make up our favourite dramas. so just like last year, we are going to see if we as a community can come up with 100 tropes we love and hate.

#1 -- the lazy second lead: okay, so yes, the second lead is all nice but he's lazy. why? he has been with the female lead for years and never made a move and just when the male lead shows up, he decides to make a move. so he wasted all this time for what? lazy! :tounge_wink:

    0001-02-front_1.jpg?resize=768,512&ssl=1

see, that was easy right? so add to the list (don't forget to mention the number), you can create a meme or just say why you like it or hate the trope. it can be one sentence or a small paragraph. (about 250 words max!!!). don't worry about your english. and if you are tech savvy, you can add a gif or screenshot or vid from your favourite drama as examples. tag a friend and get it rolling! have fun!

Super dangerous for Dong Joo's sister to be messing with shady Mom and Jenny, disguised as the driver.  Yikes. :(

shady mom's actions were so over the top and like dong joo asked, why was jenny passive? does she not realize that her mom's actions are strange? is it so normal for her that she is only slightly embarrassed?

I'm a little surprised that there isn't more about Man Soo and his family, and that shady Mom isn't trying to concoct a reason to start communications with his family.  There isn't anything on the relationship chart about his associations, so I'm wondering if this Man Soo/shady Mom plan is going to be short-lived and Jenny makes a quick decision and elopes with Eun Suk.

was surprised to learn that it was man soo who approached eun suk's cousin young man and chose the company. even grandfather is surprised because they are not exactly the fashion top dogs. so why did man soo choose them? even he seems a bit suspicious? who would court a woman for 10 years hoping she will say yes? isn't that kind of strange? and who is sending the texts to shady mom? somehow, it made me think of man soo.....

is anyone else watching this drama? @lu09 ~ how are you finding it so far?

@sushilicious ~ have you heard this cover? loved that the lyrics were actually changed instead of a direct translation and so the song flows better. actually it feels more meaningful here...

  14. @cenching ~  hahahaha. yes, that awful jasmine outfit that makes NO sense...

pink and green is actually a common combo but it does look like halloween costume there. it is all sorts of wrong.. here' a cute kiddo outfit in similar colour but so much more richer looking compared to jasmine! the movie must have spent all money on CGI.

    @Lmangla

I think Princess Jasmine is wearing what they called harem pant, inspired by salvar Turkish origin. If I am not mistaken Alladin is from Middle East??? 1001 Nights??? Also some depicted Alladin in a turban, I am not so sure if Middle eastern wears turban....I thought it's Indian??

    +2

basically it was some mismash... but I always found it very distracting and so I was more annoyed as a child and didn't really enjoy the cartoon. :sweatingbullets: ... the harem pants are okay but basically,  there are versions of it all the way from turkey to south asia. same with turbans. basically turbans served a practical purpose -- to protect head from sun. but over time, there was a few politics and other traditions involved in it.. so yea, the father seemed to be indian-ish type turban... my confusion was more over her off-shoulder, navel showing top which seemed all sorts of strange and very impractical for a desert region. :sweatingbullets:..

yes, childish me thought the cartoon was very dumb. ^_^

kekek... @sushilicious ~ in the movie, apparently, they felt aladdin showing off chest would be too distracting. hahahah... but I always found the costume in the cartoon very silly. only an idiot would go around exposing their skin hot desert -- you get sun burn! thats why you need a light material like cotton or linen and full sleeves.

@Ameera Ali ~ but yea, my pet peeve -- here's one of jasmine's new outfit from movie:

    Spoiler

    disney-aladdin-princess-jasmine-1166999-

that sort of embroidery is what school children dramas/dances are made of! :sweatingbullets: (basically you get a roll like ribbon of this and it is stitched. this is more like a back up dancer outfit...

here's what a bollywood drama outfit looks like... (the actress wore this while promoting one of her movies) see the embroidery, detail and flair of fabric... -- it is a from a well known designer who takes inspiration from history..

even for bollywood, it seems so wrong!!! hahahaha.... so I saw pics of the updated outfits from the movie and it all seems... so plain!!!! ... hahahha... in this article, the designer said it had south asian influence and I am thinking "seriously???? have they even seen what mughal dressing was like?" where is the intricate embroidery? the delicate colour combos? the flairs and moves of the fabric? nothing. it is just hollywood imagination but even wedding costume in bollywood is far more intricate.

vaguely remember seeing black and white versions of it. maybe it was sindbad? anyway, what I found strange is that in all these movies/dramas, they all had this uniform costume but I couldn't figure out where exactly it was from. especially jasmine's outfit -- somehow that seems so wrong? would a princess actually wear a belly dancer type outfit? (in the cartoon)
