I think we must take in consideration that MBC catalogue this as fact sageuk, so they will follow the real history and taking just few spins to make the story richer or more appealing for the viewer.

Yes. The new concubine is in history. She joined in 1780, while DeokIm only elevated in 1782, about 2 years later. She had no issue, although in Korean wiki, it was stated that she had a miscarriage.

wow i haven't been on soompi for over 4 yrs but this drama gave me an urge to come back and drop a line This is one of the best kdrama i've watched in the last 2 yrs I usually pass on sageuk

Actor Yang Byeong-yeol is starring in the MBC drama "The Red Sleeve".

 

He takes on the role of Deok-im's (Lee Se-young) brother Seong-sik. After he parted with Deok-im when they were young, he stays missing for a while and reunites with his sister.

Yang Byeong-yeol said, "I'm excited to be in such a nice drama. It's an honor to work with great senior actors and I plan on doing my best. I will work hard to impress the viewers".

"The Red Sleeve" revolves around the love story between King Jeongjo and the royal concubine Seong Ui-bin, a royal historical figure and the biological mother of Prince Mun-hyo, who was a court lady before she became queen.

  • Based on the novel - it follows very faithful to history with her dying while pregnant
  • Based on Easter eggs left by production - they did dub or quote this drama as "A MOURNFUL imperial Court Romance Between the King and the Court Lady" in Posters/teasers
    • so actually I am way surprised at the light and comedic episode so far, cause I was expecting a melodrama romance.

Also their rating promise, from 7% to15%... so we will see..

I think it had an okay flow, but I do think Junho and Seyoung felt a bit awkward here as compared to what you see with their making clips.

Yes they do have a few ratings promise in this drama, so with 7% reached, they will definitely be a guest in the show again. the others are not only form this show but also from Radio star and Press Con, I think.

Actor Lee Jun-Ho heated up the small screen with an unconventional abs-exposed bath scene in MBC’s “The Red Sleeve”

In the sixth episode of “The Red Sleeve”, Yi San (Lee Jun-Ho) was preparing for a rose-petals-filled bath.

Lee Jun-Ho is known to have been on a diet for a long time for the three-minute bath scene. “I’ve been on a diet for a long time because I have to film a bath scene in the drama. It was so hard,” he shared on an entertainment show.

After the sixth episode was aired, behind-the-scenes footage of the bath scene was released. In the behind-the-scenes video, Lee Jun-Ho was doing dumbbell exercises just before filming the scene and doing push-ups.

Due to the scene, Lee Jun-Ho gained a new nickname of the ‘Historical Bath God’ and became the ‘best minute’ in the sixth episode. The clip from the episode gained 200,00 views in just one day with more than 1,000 comments.

Among the comments left were, “Here’s the washboard Deok-Im was looking for”, “I knew the bath scene would be a hit”, “the hottest bath scene in the history of Korean historical dramas.”

MBC’s “The Red Sleeve” has shared a sneak peek of 2PM’s Lee Junho and Lee Se Young on a secret date!

“The Red Sleeve” is a historical drama about the imperial romance between crown prince Yi San (played by Lee Junho), who later becomes emperor, and the strong-willed court lady Seong Deok Im (played by Lee Se Young).

On the previous episode of “The Red Sleeve,” Yi San managed to be freed with Seong Deok Im’s help—and in the process of watching her go to all sorts of lengths for him, he became completely smitten. The episode ended with Yi San and Seong Deok Im accidentally getting closer during his bath time, heightening the romantic tension between them.

 

In newly released stills from the drama’s upcoming episode, Yi San and Seong Deok Im secretly meet alone at a quiet place on the palace grounds. As the two spend a furtive moment together, Yi San seems to worry about Seong Deok Im’s health, tenderly holding her with one arm as he brings a hand to her forehead to check her temperature.

 

While their prescribed roles dictate that the court lady should be the one caring for the crown prince, Yi San adorably winds up being the one fretting over Seong Deok Im’s well-being.

The producers of “The Red Sleeve” teased, “In Episode 7, San will be transparent and forward in his pursuit of Deok Im. San’s deepening feelings for Deok Im will explosively make viewers’ hearts flutter, so please show a lot of anticipation and interest.”

MBC’s “The Red Sleeve” has previewed a tense moment in the upcoming episode!

The historical drama is about the imperial romance between crown prince Yi San (played by 2PM’s Lee Junho), who later becomes emperor, and the strong-willed court lady Seong Deok Im (played by Lee Se Young).

Chief Court Lady (Park Ji Young) has always favored Seong Deok Im for her brains and beauty. Previously, she expressed her intention to make Seong Deok Im into a concubine. However, Seong Deok Im became deeply intertwined with Yi San’s private organization. Now that Seong Deok Im has learned that Chief Court Lady is actually on Princess Hwawan’s (Seo Hyo Rim‘s) side, there will be major changes between the two court ladies.

 

Newly released stills capture a suffocating moment between Chief Court Lady and Seong Deok Im. The two are alone in Chief Court Lady’s room. She’s staring at Seong Deok Im with unwavering eyes and a firm expression. On the other hand, Seong Deok Im’s eyes are filled with tension and fear. i think this is the answer to the question:

so far, they have been following the history, and have made statements to stay true to it. 

though they probably embellish a few scenes to make it more romantic....

Technically Deok im only became Yi San's concubine after he became king... 

Yeah, she was 30 years old when she did become his concubine which speaks a lot with how much he really did love her cause at the time when women for the king was important to carry a heir, Consort UI was considered already old to bear children.

and only started bearing offspring when she had his become a concubine.
