Sorry, my friends!  I got off work late today and so only had time to do one recap.  But one's better than none, right?   

 

Episode 46 - Recap!

The episode picks up with MRF asking BQ to give him a chance so that he can atone for his mother’s sins.  He wants to help her and points out all the reason why allowing him to accompany her back to the capitol would be a good thing.  When he finally points out that he has a carriage, which will allow her to travel undetected and return to the capitol that much faster, BQ finally but hesitantly agrees. 

 

DFS meets with all the various generals/leaders who are now serving under him. Rather than trying to translate the entire contents of his speech, I’ll just characterize it as: he makes a grand speech about the mission they’re about to undertake and the journey they’re about to share.  When he finishes, they toast with a bowl of wine.  DFS throws his bowl to the ground and his men follow suit.  He then grabs for his sword and yells at the top of his lungs for everything to begin.

 

MFR and BQ (who is now dressed as one of his family’s maids) are riding in the carriage together when she asks him for a favor.  She says that when she reaches the capitol she wants to find a person and explains that ever since she moved to Zhu Manor, this person has been her bodyguard and with her around, she’ll feel more secure.  It’s Xiao Xia and MRF expresses his understanding as well as his willingness to assist by instructing his right hand man to stop briefly at the next stop (presumably to send out a message for Xiao Xia).  When he finishes giving the order, BQ asks if he isn’t upset but MRF asks, “Why would I be upset?”  She finally has people she can consider her own and this makes him happy.  He also understands that returning to Mo Manor will be uncomfortable for her and this way, she’ll have someone she feels comfortable with protecting her.

 

After they finish that conversation, they sit in silence until MRF smiles.  BQ asks him what he’s laughing about and he says he’s not.  He’s just thinking about the first time she entered the capitol, and says that he never imagined in just these few years, she would go through so much.  He wonders if he hadn’t insisted on bringing her back to the capitol back then whether she’d be living a happier life as a beggar.  BQ tells him that’s an impossibility because even if it hadn’t been him, CY would’ve wanted to take her to the capitol.  Additionally, the person behind Yao Ling Zhuang Zhu would also have sent someone to send her back to the capitol.  Because of her fate, it all would’ve turned out the same way. 

 

Around this time, their carriage becomes surrounded by weary travelers on foot begging them for foot.  They don’t have any water to share, but after probing the travelers for information, they learn that Cheng Wang’s descendant is trying to help the Cheng Wang to return to the throne and that the city ahead of them has already been taken over (which is why the people are leaving).  BQ recognizes the person they’re talking about to be DFS.  She says this means they can no longer pass through the next city and asks MRF to find a roundabout way to return to the capitol.  When MRF asks how she knows DFS, she explains that he’s another person who’s after her because her family owes his money a large sum of money.  This also means the emperor has linked the two families together and wants to capture both of them.  MRF responds by saying he never imagined that, in these past few years, she’s lived a far more complicated life than he ever imagined. 

 

[Side note to say: Every time MRF kept talking about the timeline in “years” it made me pause.  Since we’re watching the drama as if each day occurs after the next, it feels like maybe only a year or two at most have passed since the beginning of the story.  But his comments serve as a reminder that the drama’s timeframe must be longer than that – and that makes sense.  After all, with all the traveling that they do in this drama, it serves us well to remember that these were long journeys that they were making.  Not something completed in a week or two, but months.  I don’t know, maybe I’m the only one who found that interesting, but since I did, I thought I’d comment on it.  J]

 

Back in the palace, the Emperor is lecturing his officials.  He has received word of all the inroads the rebellion is making by forming alliances with people he previously regarded as on his side, and to say the emperor is upset would be an understatement.  The officials keep apologizing for their laxity, which the emperor blames for how the rebellion has been able to grow right under their noses, and the emperor finally explodes that what he needs are horses and armed forces not their apologies and useless ideas.  That’s when he asks after the horses that Fei Yun Bao still hasn’t delivered and asks them how come it looks like the Fei Yun Bao family is even working with DFS now.  He ends his speech by observing that Mo Manor and Fei Yun Bao are related through marriage, and so he gives the order for Mo Manor to be searched and seized with everything confiscated.   

 

BQ and MRF finally arrive home to Mo Manor.  She approaches it hesitantly, but MRF smiles at her to follow him in.  As they walk towards the quarters where she once stayed, she comments that nothing has changed and it looks the same as when she left.  Around this time, we see the emperor’s men running around Mo Manor.  They hear the noise and MRF instructs his right hand man to take BQ towards the family bunker while he goes to see what’s going on.  What’s going on is his people are being killed while his mother’s being dragged and captured.  Mo Bo (his mother’s faithful servant) dies trying to protect her and MRF finally swoops in to save her.  He doesn’t understand what’s going on nor does he understand why his family’s being accused of treason, but he fights off the attackers and helps his injured mother run away where they join BQ and his right hand man in the family bunker.

 

When they arrive to the bunker, Mo Mommy is shocked to see BQ.  She tells MRF that she sees a ghost and he corrects her, telling her that BQ is alive.  He then asks her what’s going on and that’s when she explains that her brother was forced into aligning himself with DFS and they, in turn, were linked to Fei Yun Bao through her.  She tells MRF that she tried to send word to him, but he couldn’t be found, and so she stayed to wait for him.  This makes MRF feel guilty, of course, and when he apologize she realizes that the reason MRF couldn’t be found was because he’d gone looking for BQ.  This causes his mother to turn her anger towards BQ (not that I think her anger ever left BQ) and she accuses BQ for being responsible for her son’s demise in the same way that her mother had caused her husband’s demise.  Of course BQ is defensive about this, as her mother was the innocent party, and if we really think about it, Mommy Mo was a catalyst for a lot of what’s going on now, so really.  Who’s to blame here? 

 

As they argue over who is to blame, MRF tries to treat his mother’s injuries.  She wants him to leave her behind though, as she knows trying to escape with her will only make things harder for him.  She tells him that he should finally live his life for himself rather for others, and MRF just yells that he won’t leave her behind.  After MRF finishes binding his mother’s injury, they all get up to leave.  That’s when his mother grabs and dagger intending to kill herself and BQ stops her.  His mother asks her why she won’t let her die when she’s the person who hates her the most and wants to see her die.  BQ agrees that she does hate her, but MRF has always treated her well and she doesn’t want to see him sad.  His mother responds that she never imagined that at a time like this when she wants to die, she’s actually being saved by Xue Fei’s daughter.  She then tells BQ to dream on if she ever thinks she’ll be grateful because she’s not and she’ll never forgive them either.  (Such a lovely person, no?  Don’t worry.  She’s about to get hers.) 

 

As they fight in the bunker, the emperor’s men arrive after having found them.  They start shooting their arrows through the locked gate and MRF’s mother steps in front to save her son.  She dies while MFR cries and in the end, BQ has to drag him away lest he end up dying with her.  Unfortunately, MRF’s mother is not the only casualty of this battle.  His right hand man had also lifted a table to serve as a shield as they ran for the bunker’s exit and, in doing so, he became exposed at one point and so an arrow found him too.  Figuring he was already a goner, the right hand man yells for MRF and BQ to leave while he tried to waylay the emperor’s men in order to give them time to escape.  I can’t say I was terribly saddened by Mommy Mo’s death, but the MRF’s right hand man was always a decent guy.  L 

 

After escaping Mo Manor, BQ and MRF find themselves in some random village.  The emperor’s men are walking around looking for them with a drawing of MRF.  Realizing that they need to find a way to hide themselves, BQ suggests they swap their clothes for ones she found drying on a fence.  She explains that with her dressed up as a man and him dressed up as a woman, this will increase their chances of going undetected.  MRF responds, however, that he doesn’t feel comfortable dressing up like a woman and refuses.  That’s when BQ says to him that, actually, she knows he’s a “she” and that she’s known it ever since the beginning.  She reminds him of the time he was injured and only his mother was allowed to see him.  She also reminds him of how he helped her match her clothes to make-up color.  She asks him not to pretend with her anymore, empathizing with all the difficulties he must have faced in pretending to be something he wasn’t, and promises that she’s never said a word to anyone.  She also asks him to stop hesitating because they don’t have a lot of time left. 

 

After MRF changes into women’s clothing, BQ compliments him on his looks.  He then explains how the deception began.  His father had always wanted a son, so after he was born, his mother treated him like a little boy and he got used to being a little boy.  After his father died young and his mother suffered at the hands of others because of that, the fact that everyone thought he was a boy actually helped him secure the family.  And so, the lie continued until nobody but his mother ever knew that he was actually a girl.  After he finishes his tale, BQ takes his hand and says, “Who says girls can’t compare to boys?”  She finds it impressive that MRF was able to take control of his family’s business from such an early age and despite being a woman, and points out that there are plenty of men who wouldn’t have been able to do the same.  At that, MRF thanks BQ.  He says that even though she knew it was his mother who’d harmed her, she never tried to harm them, and he’s thankful for that.

 

The guards arrive and call everyone from the village to the front and center for inspection.  One of them lingers in front of MRF with the picture in his hand.  It’s clear the guard sees a similarity, but another guard comes back and asks him why he’s staring at another person’s wife when they’re supposed to be looking for people.  At that, the guards finally take their leave believing that BQ and MRF are not among this group of people.  BQ and MRF, for their own part, finally let out a huge sigh of relief.  As they walk away, BQ suggests to MRF that he continue using this disguise to enter the capitol.  He tells her though that now that the emperor has turned his back against his family, there’s no point in him going to the capitol – he’s already lost his place there.  Furthermore, since he’s already been painted as a traitor, he might as well join the traitors.  He tells BQ that he plans on joining his (maternal) uncle and suggests that she go with him, while they think of another way to rescue her grandfather.  BQ reminds him of his mother’s parting words – to live life for himself – but MRF tells her that after all that’s happened, he wouldn’t be able to live with himself if he just let everything go.  He’s determined to seek revenge for his family.  He again suggests that BQ leave with him, but she says she can’t.  She wants to wait for Xiao Xia who’s due to arrive soon.  She knows that once Xiao Xia’s with her, she’ll be protected.  She also wants to meet up with YC to see if he has any information concerning CY and her grandfather.  She then points out that with everyone looking for them, if they stay together, that would only be more dangerous.  MRF finally comes to terms with what BQ is saying and agrees to part ways with her at this point.  He apologizes for not having been able to help her, and BQ shakes her head reminding him that he already helped her return to the capitol.  He hugs her and says that since he doesn’t know when he’ll be able to see her again, she has to take care of herself.  BQ nods and says he has to do the same.  MRF walks away and BQ watches him.

 

MRF arrives at DFS’s camp.  He introduces himself to the guards, but neither his uncle nor his cousin is present at the moment nor are they due back any time soon.  MRF is kind of at a loss as to what to do next and is about to get back on his horse when DFS arrives.  He asks DFS to take him in and swears his allegiance to DFS, but DFS recognizes the name and knows how BQ suffered at the hands of his mother.  He’s not inclined to help.  It’s only after MRF does a fair bit of groveling that DFS agrees to give him a chance.  He calls one of the generals who’s riding with him forward and assigns MRF to this general’s camp. 

 

The general shows MRF to his tent and tells him to change into the clothes he’s been provided.  The problem is it’s a shared tent and around them, men are changing even as they speak.  There’s no way MRF, who is actually a female, live like this and so he tries to bribe the general into helping him find at least a changing room to use.  The general rolls his eyes at what he perceives as MRF being used to the finer ways of life and refuses to help.  He then tells MRF that he was instructed to train him and so he should hurry up and get to it and stop acting like a girl.  As he pushes at MRF, they get into a little tussle which reveals MRF to be a woman.  Because of this, the general suspects that MRF has been sent by the emperor to be a spy.

 

MRF is brought before DFS who finds the discovery of MRF as a female to be hilarious.  MRF pleads his case and explains that he was simply raised like a boy and has nothing to do with the emperor – how could he when the emperor is out to get him?  DFS doesn’t have much use for him though, especially now that he knows he’s actually a she.  He says he has never accepted a woman into his army and tells MRF to leave.  MRF refuses and insists on saying.  He explains that he’s there for revenge.  DFS points out that MRF should just be grateful that he’s not making an issue over the fact that he (MRF) just beat up his men.  He says that if MRF leaves now, he’ll let him off.  At that, MRF asks why DFS won’t let someone like him who’s skilled at martial arts stay in the army.  DFS responds, “Because you’re a girl.”  He asks who would be willing to go into battle with a woman by their side and, as the other men in the room chuckle in response, he offers MRF the choice of being a bodyguard, like Hei Feng, or someone who’s skilled in medicine, like Dan Sha.  MRF chooses neither because he has faith in his abilities as a skilled soldier. 

 

Once DFS realizes that MRF is not going anywhere he sends everyone out of his tent and says, “You and Zhu Ya Tou seem to have a good relationship.  I’m guessing she won’t try and avoid you.”  He then offers MRF a leadership position as a leader of his own army if he brings BQ back to his side without anyone else knowing.  MRF asks him why he wants to capture BQ, and DFS explains that the emperor’s decree concerning CY and her grandfather is an obvious ploy to make her appear in front of him.  However, if BQ falls into the hands of the emperor, she’ll die.  With him, at least, he’ll be able to protect her.  MRF asks why he thinks the emperor will definitely kill her, and DFS answers that he doesn’t need to know about that.  He just needs to bring her back safely to him.  As MRF thinks things over, DFS tells him not to worry.  He says he’d never hurt BQ because he intends to make her his wife.  This surprises MRF to hear, but DFS says there are plenty of people in Suzhou who know about him liking her so if MRF doesn’t believe him, he can go and find out for himself.  MRF gives quick consideration to DFS’s words and says, “I believe you.”  In the end, he agrees to bring BQ back to him. 

 

In a deserted cabin out in the woods somewhere, Xiao Xia arrives with YC.  They walk inside and Xiao Xiao calls out for her mistress.  BQ comes running out from her hiding place and asks if they were followed, and Xiao Xiao reassures her that they were very careful.  BQ then turns to YC and asks after CY and her grandfather.  YC tells her that he wasn’t able to visit her grandfather so he’s not sure how he’s doing, but he’s met several times with CY and he’s not doing well.  When BQ asks what’s going on with CY, YC tells her that the emperor got rid of his martial arts abilities (by sticking the dagger into his left shoulder) and after that, he asked for his family’s wine medicine.  He thinks that CY is trying to drown his worries in wine.  Anxious and worried now, BQ asks where CY is currently located, whether he’s in prison, and whether he’s capable of being rescued.  YC tells her no, he’s in the palace, which means there’s basically no hope of rescuing him.  BQ asks YC to take her into the palace.  Xiao Xia steps in to tell her she can’t do that and YC agrees, but BQ insists she can save them.  She points out that the emperor issued his decree concerning CY and her grandfather with the obvious intent of luring her out, which means that so long as she makes an appearance, the emperor won’t kill them.  When YC hears this, he asks her why she believes the emperor won’t kill CY so long as she makes an appearance, and BQ says she can’t explain the full reason but asks instead that they trust her.  YC finally agrees saying that so long as she can save CY, he’ll take her immediately.  Xiao Xia’s still not on board with this idea, but BQ tells her they don’t have a lot of time left.  She asks Xiao Xia to trust her that this is the only way she can save CY and her grandfather.  She adds that once she’s in the palace, she’ll be able to save their lives and as for how to escape after that, she’ll try and find a way to discuss it over with CY.  She instructs Xiao Xia to wait for her on the outside, and so Xiao Xia can only let her go with a promise to take care.

 

At this moment, Xiao Xia goes running towards the door of the cabin asking who’s there.  BQ follows her to the doorway and then runs forward surprised to see MRF.  She asks him what he’s still doing in the capitol and he asks, “BQ, if you go and find the emperor, is it true that the emperor will definitely kill you?”  She laughs off his question and asks who he’s been talking to.  She also asks if he’s met DFS.  MRF responds, “I guess it’s all true then.”  He then turns around and walks away.  When BQ calls after him confused, he says to her, “I’m doing this for your own benefit,” and then apologizes.  Right at that moment, men appear from all sides of the cabin to quickly surround them and subdue Xiao Xia.  BQ calls out to MRF, and he walks away.

 

BQ is lying on her back struggling with her hands and ankles bound.  DFS enters his tent and smiles when he sees her.  As he approaches, he takes in her bound state and comments that it’s too cruel and starts to untie the rope around her ankles for her.  He then helps her sit up and, removing the cloth from her mouth, says, “Zhu Ya Tou, we meet again.”  Finally free to speak, the first thing BQ asks about is Xiao Xia and YC.  DFS tells her that they’ve been locked someplace but without his orders, no one will dare to touch them.  The second thing BQ says to him is that it looks like he’s still determined to capture her in order to obtain the Biluotian treasures.  DFS sits down next to her and points out if that really was the case, he would’ve taken her the last time they were together.  He then tells her not to worry.  He’s Cheng Wang’s descendant and in this entire army, only his grandfather is able to control him, but his grandfather doesn’t know she’s with him so right now, and so she’s quite safe.  BQ responds by asking him to let her go.  She tells him that the emperor’s going to chop her grandfather’s head off in a few days and she has to go and save him.  DFS responds by asking her how she plans on saving him when he’s been hidden deep somewhere.  BQ says she can go before the emperor to plead her case.  After all, the Zhu Family has never wanted to participate in this rebellion.  They only owed DFS’s family money and she didn’t know his family would turn out to be traitors.  DFS asks her if she thinks the emperor will really believe her.  He tells her to not walk to her death, but BQ insists that so long as she makes things clear with the emperor, he’ll let go of her family.  DFS disagrees.  He says the fact that the emperor has captured CY and her grandfather means that he must know her real background, and that means if she appears before him, there’s no way he’ll let her go.  Instead, he’ll ask her where the Biluotian map and sphere are and then take her to Biluotian where he’ll make a sacrifice out of her.  BQ stands up asks what if the emperor doesn’t know.  She emphasizes that her grandfather is her only relative and begs him to let her go.  DFS smiles and sits her back down.  He then basically tells her that there’s no way he’s going to ever let her go because he also doesn’t want her to come in between him and his plans for the emperor.  Poor BQ is stuck!

 

Elsewhere in the camp, MRF is sitting in a tent looking lost in his thoughts when his cousin comes running in excited to find him there.  He shares that his father was also happy to hear of his arrival and will be over soon too.  Yun Lang then takes a look around the tent and then compliments MRF for being so amazing as to be elevated to such a high position when he only just joined them, while he’s only at his current position after having handed over a herd of horses. 

 

Yun Lang asks after the whereabouts of MRF’s right hand man and also asks after his aunt.  MRF tells him that Mo Manor was confiscated and that his mother, Mo Bo, and his right hand man are all dead.  Half of the people who used to work for him are also dead, while the other half who lived aren’t doing any better.  Yun Lang asks how that could be when his father sent a letter to his mother a while back.  MRF asnwers that it’s all his fault.  If his mother hadn’t waited for him, then she couldn’t escaped earlier.  Yun Lang also feels bad because if it hadn’t been for Fei Yun Bao, Mo Manor wouldn’t haven’t run into any problems.  MRF stands and tells him there’s no use in crying over spilled milk.  As he walks around the tent, he tells his cousin that what he has to do now is gain power through DFS, to do everything DFS wants him to do, and to become a powerful general so that he can personally kill the emperor in order to avenge his mother.

 

Xiao Xia and YC are locked up in a cabin.  When YC notices that Xiao Xia has finished her piece of bread, he offers her the rest of his.  She says that every time he only eats a little bit and gives her the rest, and asks if his body will be able to handle that.  He tells her it’s no problem as he actually has a small appetite, even if he is a man, and encourages her to eat up.  Xiao Xia asks him if her appetite is too big, and YC reassures her that’s not the case.  He says she uses up too much energy practicing her martial arts skills [Ha!  No lie, I almost wrote “marital arts skills” before I caught the typo.  LOL.] and that the more she practices, the hungrier she’ll be.  He then asks her if she knows why his martial arts skills are so bad, and tells her that if he added up all the time he has ever spent practicing, it still wouldn’t amount to the amount of practicing that she does in one year. 

 

Episode ends.

I still think this will have a happy ending. The drama has been pretty consistent in giving us somewhat of a comedic vibe and it does a really good job of balancing the serious with the playful banter that we seen between all the characters. So it would be such a buzz kill if it ends on a really serious note where the OTP don’t even up together.

Despite the trials and tribulations, I believe the couple will have their happy ending. I just really hope that there will be adequate closure about Biluotian and DFS' family ties to the throne as well. The latter feels somewhat rushed to me, but I will be patient and see how it all comes together.

I knew it from the beginning--MRF is a woman disguised as a man and in actuality is a real woman in real life,   Conveniently, the producer decided to make it align with the plot.

Wow... SO much bloodletting... and sadly it's all pretty logical. And realistic.

 

BQ is absolutely right about DFS and the emperor. They don't care about the ramifications of their war on the common folk. They've embroiled a whole lot of innocent bystanders into the plotting and scheming... the result is bloodshed and more violence. It's not because I don't like either that I'm being a soft touch about politics but BQ makes so much sense. Even if DFS has a rightful claim to the throne, it doesn't mean he actually has to exercise that right. The current emperor isn't that great and he did allow the four merchant clans to exercise so much power but unless I missed something, things weren't so bad that a full scale rebellion is needed. It's not exactly a grassroots movement.

 

Anyway... it's all part of the plot. Frankly I don't give two hoots who wins... I just want our OTP to live happily ever after with no one bothering either of them again. 

 

After that last episode I feel that I'm destined not to really like DFS that much.  Even when he protects BQ against his grandfather and declares that she's the woman he loves, I just... I dunno... just not feeling it. I don't disbelieve his sincerity (how can I if the man is prepared to die to prove it?) but I find him too overbearing even when he really cares. As a whole I don't really like his dynamic with BQ. It has dysfunctional undertones. With everyone else, it varies from "meh" to "not bad". 

 

In general I'm just annoyed by everyone trying to protect BQ. I know they all mean well but no one seems to respect her independence or feelings. Do they think that she would be happy being protected while her only living relative and the man she loves is faced with the prospect of execution? Luckily CY is pretty resourceful even when the odds are stacked against him. LQW is true to form... annoying as heck... and needs more than a bop on the head.

 

I had to grin when Danshi said that all these men who get close to BQ... all fall in love with her. Hahaha... A bit of nudge, nudge, wink, wink moment. Peering through the fourth wall as it were. Yes, yes... we have our reverse harem. But you know, in BQ case, I get it. She is truly something special. Clever and warm-hearted. Her ability to think on her feet never ceases to elicit a chuckle out of me. Still  I don't think there's anything enviable about being liked by so many men. It's a nuisance to be honest. Especially when the men in question think you're some kind of trophy to cast about.

 

I'm getting a bit weary of Bi Luo Tian. CY should just set fire to the map and the sacred object or better still, to the treasure. I'm hoping that there's no treasure or just a useless piece of paper with nice calligraphy saying "You're all freaking idiots".

While waiting for today's episodes to be loaded, I went to look for previews.

The other previews I saw previously showed her being seriously injured but I was really hoping some miracle would happen. Was still in denial since I hadn't seen the scene of her death but now its confirmed. She and YC made such a cute couple plus I don't see the point of her dying?

I don't understand why so many people have to die on a show with such a silly opening song. Plus, it's kind of a downer for me to watch so many people fall in love with one woman and so many others sacrifice themselves for said woman. Frankly, I think LQW had the correct idea from the beginning by hunting down and attempting to kill HBQ and Jiu Shu...of course, then there'd be no show to watch .  I'm in my early 30s so this kind of story line is excruciating for me to follow. 

 

That being said, I appreciate everyone keeping this thread alive since I'm only watching for Xing En...not even her story arc lol but just to catch her on the show. lol. If MRF is blackened at the end, naturally, imma just chalk it up to bad writing haha.

@40somethingahjumma Haha, I get why you are annoyed about people trying to protect BQ, but since she has zero martial arts, she needs to be protected. She is indeed intelligent and street-smart, but up against the big bad guys like the MM and his underlings, she would have died many times ago and then there would no OTP.

 

CY tried to destroy the sacred object with a sword but failed. He told BQ that he wanted to seal off Biluotian with the map/object and Ah Fu and his sisters' ashes. It would be nice if the matter could be resolved with something like this.

China (and other countries)  has a long rich history of men who overthrew the current regime and they all think they would be better than the current ruler.  So, this arc is not unusual and BQ ain't saying anything new here - every series that has this type of trope has someone saying that to someone (lol).   DFS has all of the loyalists to Cheng, so he has his supporters who want him on the throne.  In fact, I think he would be a better emperor than the current one as he is very intelligent and doesn't sit around waiting for things to happen. He makes things happen and he has shown that he can learn and grow.  He is becoming a very sympathetic figure

 

DFS looks like he is maturing quite a bit and outside of his obsession for BQ, he is a solid character.  I follow the actor on facebook and he did provide some insights to his character - that he never wanted the power, but happiness.  DFS never meant for BQ to suffer but recognizes that

he did cause her to suffer, despite that all he wanted to do was to protect her.   I have the feeling his character will die, saving her & Chen Yu, if the previews are correct.  I would have liked him to survive and become emperor.  But... it looks like he will get the redemption arc after all.  

 

 

 

@crackaddict Yeah, the opening song is SUCH a turn off for me.  When I started to watch this series, I had a really hard time with that song plus the silly stupid antics in the first 2 episodes.  Once BQ stopped being a beggar, it started shaping up much better.   I do not like that BQ's character is a Marysue type character.  That is such lazy writing and I would have loved to have ONE male lead turn his nose up to her or make her have a crappy trait that no one likes.   It can be done  and it is quite lovely to see everyone avoid the female lead except for one guy who is smitten with her (including her horrible personality traits). 

 

If not for the natural charm of Ariel Lin, I would be howling at her character in frustration.

Honestly, everything just feel soo rushed right now.

Bai Jiang Fei brought her in. Do you remember when LQW tried to sell BQ to a brothel but then BQ hurt her and managed to escape and then BJF found her. I don’t remember all but I think she told BJF that she knows who’s the BiLuoTian’s 圣女 so she wants to meet the King etc and then that’s how she ended up in the palace lol. And then you know, she kinda seduced him and became one of his concubine.

I'm totally with you. Every time I see her on my screen I want to puke. Her voice bothers me. Her hair bothers. I cannot wait for her to die. 

 

I really like our OTP,  but there are times when I simply cannot understand them (and they contradict their personalities). For example, how are CY and BQ so clueless that they think the emperor wouldn't know if they don't tell him? There are spies everywhere and they know it! And, seriously, BQ rescuing CY and grandfather with no martial art skills whatsoever (she has only been able to survive because there's always someone to save her)? I was so annoyed by episodes 46 and 47. 

 

Also, I agree that there were a lot of unnecessary deaths. With all these people gone, who will the OTP interact with? BTW, I always hate endings where they go off and live away from the world. Like seriously?

Is BQ's grandfather dead?  Or is this going to be another fake-out?  After Episode 48, I would've said yes, he's dead.  But in episode 49, when we got to see the flashback conversation that CY had with the emperor (and thus learn that he didn't really escape from the palace and is actually working with the emperor), the emperor asks how he can trust that CY won't just leave the palace and go do his thing, and CY responds that the emperor still has BQ's grandfather.  That would imply the emperor can't kill the grandfather since he needs his hidden card to make sure CY stays in line.  Also, if we look back to the scene where the grandfather is killed, the drama actually never shows us his dead body.  Instead, we see BJF looking away from the beheading because he's an utter wimp.  Is it possible the person doing the beheading was only going through the motions?  It would be so great if, at the very least, BQ's grandfather survived.  Or did I completely misunderstand these scenes?  I feel like I need to rewatch today's episodes all over again, especially since I was a mess of thoughts after Episode 48.  I'm glad I waited to say anything though (and oh boy did I have a lot of thoughts after that episode!) because then we learned so much more in Episode 49.

 

Also, Mr. Traitor Traitor Pants... he is such a traitor that he just can't help himself, can he?  Is there anyone else left to betray???  LOL.

 

 

Also, I'm sorry, I don't think there will be any recaps tonight... first, today's episodes had me on an emotional rollercoaster ride (although I at least ended on a more hopeful note) and I feel like I need to catch my breath from the whiplash.  Second, to be quite honest, as the drama heads more into the real conflict of the show, recapping has turned into a lot of work for me.  If it was just casual conversations they were all having, I'd understand that easily enough to whip out a quick recap.  But starting from last week, especially, I've had a lot to do more dictionary searching to understand precisely what's going on and it takes me hours.  So, I just need a break.  I may roll them out over the weekend, but in any event, we're to the finish line.  I hope you all understand.

My thoughts all along was that the couple will live in seclusion, but with the latest raw episodes, I am wondering if BQ can disregard Zhu Fu and its people there. So many things going with what seems to be so little time...ugh!
