Popular Post antiherofans
2 hours ago, 40somethingahjumma said: I'm inclined to believe that the next two episodes will provide us a much clearer picture of the writer's approach to GHJ's effect on the events leading to Gwangjong's ascension. What happens to Eun and Seon Deok will determine how the rest of history unfolds in this drama. I don't think the writer is obliged to follow recorded history all that closely when so many liberties have already been taken with the official presentation. However, what the writer might be obligated to do is to follow the course set out by the novel. What the "fate" of Eun and Seon Deok will give us is the tone of the rest of the drama. The latest previews are giving me a kind of Princess' Man vibe. Although the bloodbath started a lot earlier with that drama, there are similar resonances of a star-crossed romance at play. But then I should know better than to take too much stock in the previews of this show which are more often than not, de-contextualized... deceptively positioned and framed. I also got the sense from Ep. 15 that Eun and Seon Deok hiding out in Damiwon was a double-edged sword. While it did eventually expose their whereabouts, it also showed that this life-death event brought them closer together, ended the push-pull dynamic and in all likelihood led to the consummation of their marriage. I don't know that it is that simple that Su should have told So about Eun being in Damiwon. Maybe she should have... maybe she believed that she had to ensure that neither of the parties should cross paths thus limiting the chances of an all out confrontation. But then I don't think there's any guarantee of a positive outcome either way, if the premonitions are to be believed. Despite what some of the characters say and think regarding their position in court, everyone has choices available to them despite not having absolute liberty. No one has that. However, within the limited options that are available to them, they are still able to decide their next course of action. We see that with Uk and Yeon Hwa in a significant way as they manipulate their way out of one situation out of another largely of their own making. It shows that despite all the best calculations in the world, people and circumstances are often quite unpredictable. My one main criticism of Su is that she's trying so desperately not to take sides in this game of thrones. It could be she's clinging on to the last vestiges of her modern sensibilities and it may be that she's trying to mitigate the issue of anyone getting hurt. But that ship has already sailed. It doesn't matter what she's trying to do, as long as she's linked to So, in the eyes of everyone else, she has already taken a side. This is no time for neutrality. Lines have been drawn. Often as we've seen in recent decades, it's a lot more dangerous not take positions on issues because sooner or later, someone else will do it for you. For me that's her prevailing narrative. If she maintains her neutrality or mediates between opposing sides... no one gets hurt. It is a rather naive position to hold regarding the game of thrones but it has resonances with our political classes and contemporary thinking about non-interference in larger world affairs. Undoubtedly everyone's sick of conflict and war but the reality is that even if our side doesn't start the wars, someone else will. The moment she chose to be So's person and aligned with him emotionally, she already made her choice. She can barely protect herself, much less him or anyone else. For her to try and protect Eun is an existential reassertion of that belief that she can mediate the fight. This line of thinking may have had some impact when the more friendly Mu was in power. But when you have a manipulative tyrant in the making ruling the roost, neutrality is a pipe dream. Worse still neutrality might end up hurting more people than saving them. As I've said on numerous occasions, I don't know how things will end up... There are a number of possibilities that I've mooted. At the end of the day I don't really like speculating publicly because it will only end up creating expectations or unnecessary angst. Whatever comes, I would like to see consistency in characterization and narrative which should, in my opinion, trump obligation to official history and even the novel itself. However, I'm not interested in a happy ending for a happy ending's sake. It's got to make sense. I also want to say in praise of LJG that I'm so glad he undertook this project. He is a true acting great because he doesn't just "act" but inhabits the role completely. He doesn't just act the part but he is Wang So from head to toe. This is my fourth LJG drama and the only one that I've adored. Two of them I dropped midway largely because of pacing and the female lead. Two Weeks, I quite enjoyed. It's probably a bit of a cliche now to say this but LJG was born to play Wang So and this is a role of a lifetime for him despite all the post-production issues. The mask, the scar, the bloody face, the Goryeo outfits... he absolutely belongs in this role and all its trappings. My dream after this is to see LJG and Jang Hyuk in a drama or film together. Truth be told, I would pay very good money to see that collaboration. Aside from his performance, I adore his vocal delivery. People are right, he is the Prince of Sageuk because he does have the voice for it as well. For me he's like the Benedict Cumberbatch of SK... someone I could listen to for hours reading out of a phone book. The man needs to do audio books fast. I won't understand much but it won't matter. I am so happy reading your post. I also believe the role of Wang So is one of the best character in Kdrama. Wang So is very complex character with so much pain and it is not easy to portray that. Lee Joon Gi is indeed born to play the role. If you say Wang So, you would instantly remember LJG. LJG as Wang So remind me the first time I saw Heath Ledger's (RIP) Joker in Dark Knight. They both completely stole the show. Please, give LJG the awards he truly deserves

BUT what if the 21st century Go Ha Jin wakes up from her drowning near death experience and there's a guy as a doctor or a paramedic trying hard to resuscitate her. And this guy is shouting "You cannot die without my permission" just like Wang So said in ep.9. GHJ finally opens her eyes and what she see is Wang So in modern times with modern attire as the doctor/paramedic who saves her life and saying the same unforgettable line from the Wang So of Goryeo era. GHJ smiles at him and he smiles back and... The End I mentioned an ending similar to this a many pages back. We know that she's doing very well in ancient times making soaps. I can see this business continuing throughout history via Wang So's linage with stories of how it all got started. This story is passed from generation to generation. I can see Wang So's doppelganger ancestor in the 21st century always searching for Hae So because after seeing a picture of her as a child, he felt she was his destiny. Just like the woman he heard stories about as a child that made soap, Hae So of the 21st century does the same thing and she has the same name.......she's the woman that he feels he knows and remembers from a past history; as if they had lived before but in a different century. That type of ending would definitely work for me.

Popular Post briseis
A Secret Rendezvous Spoiler Awwww, they are both like two giddy teenagers before their first date! Both dressing up for the occassion. Even Wang So chooses the fanciest robe in his wardrobe, though you have to wonder whether he didn’t buy it or made it tailored specifically for his date with HS since his fashion taste runs more for the dark and practical stuff. Apart from the rain ritual, this is HIS FIRST TIME WEARING WHITE! I NEED a scene where he is completely desperate and hapless because he doesn’t know what to wear and runs to BA, asking for fashion tips and then they go on a shopping spree because his BBF would never allow Wang So to fail at his first date! I would even venture to guess that BA actually found out what HS planned to wear and color-coordinated their outfits! BECAUSE THIS IS TOTALLY WHAT HAPPENED! Spoiler “I didn’t think you would really come, so I took my time getting here. Did you wait long?” As terrible as it’s that WS was made to marry his niece, it actually causes that HAE SOO ENDS UP BEING THE ONE WHO IS WAITING FOR HIM FOR THE FIRST TIME. It’s nice to see her in this reversed position she is unused to - waiting for the person she loves - she feels the giddiness, the uncertainty, so many expectations and hopes. But she needn’t to be afraid because SO DOES COME, JUST LIKE HE ALWAYS DOES. He could have stood her up, ignore her and avoid it all (just like Wook did so many times) - the pain, the unpleasantness - but he doesn’t BECAUSE HE WOULD NEVER DO THAT TO HER, HE PROMISED HER AND THE 4TH PRINCE ALWAYS KEEPS HIS PROMISES NO MATTER HOW MUCH IT HURTS HIM. In a world, where destiny nor history would stand against them, in a world where he wouldn’t be delayed by the drama of his dysfunctionla, messed-up family, SO WOULD BE THE ONE ARRIVING FIRST AND AT LEAST HALF AN HOUR EARLIER.

ddeokbokkii
I'm not responsible for the following contents. You have been warned. Spoiler Here is my prediction. Yeon Hwa will become queen. She will replace Queen Yoo as the evil queen in the palace, and she will be 10 times as bad. That little witch scares a five dollar bill out of me every time I see her on screen. There is no telling how far she would go with her evil schemes. There is no border to her evil deeds. She dared to stand in front of the old king and pretend to drink poison, and made him looks like a fool in front of everyone. She can turned her own brother into a cold heart killer in an instance. This scary little witch is so deranged, she even threaten Queen Yoo face to face like Queen Yoo doesn't have enough power to swallow her tiny little princess title in one gulp. If I were to be send back in time. I will make sure to bring one of those radio collars you saw in one of those "Wild Animal Kingdom" documentary. Where they put those collar on one of them wild animal. And it gives out radio signal, so they can track that animal down. I will make sure to put one of them collar on Yeon Hwa neck.... but I will use it differently. I will make sure to keep her signal as far away from me as much as possible. Then I will hire a bunch of hunters and place them strategically around my house. I will tell those hunters, if they see any animal with a funny collar on it neck..."Shoot it!". I'll be like "Jacques Cousteau" and she'll be the "great white shark" that I don't ever want to see. But, oh why! I like this type of villains so much, without them the drama will never be the same. Gotcha!, you clicked on the spoiler, didn't you?.
vwj1
I just wanted to say first that I find most of the writing here very eloquent, thought provoking, and amazing. I'm sad I've never joined a forum until now. I'm learning so much from you all. Thanks to this forum, I get to feed my obsession even more. In regards to the bracelet, I believe when WW gave it to Soo, he made her promise to never take it off. However there has been plenty of occasions where I think she doesn't have it on. I mean she is always wearing long sleeves so I could be wrong. In my humble opinion, I don't give much credence to that bracelet anyways. I'm sure he meant well at the time he gave it to her. And It appeared Soo was touched by his consideration. It's not a ring or an engagement piece. I don't even think the gift was meant as anything else but as a piece that can help cover her scar (and it doesn't even do a good job of that), and to bring some beauty to what I think WW may think was an ugly situation. I was conflicted because I thought it was sweet but at the same time, I almost found it a bit offensive too that WW asked Soo to never take it off as though without the bracelet, the scar would be too ugly to look upon. As for So's gift, he gifted the hair pin to her as appreciation of her, she can do with it as she pleases. She can keep the gift, wear it, never wear it, throw it away, give it back to him, gift it to someone else. The gift is hers. This is the difference between these two brothers. One is always promising something and demanding a promise in return and the other one's actions speaks louder then his words and he gives freely without asking for anything in return. I was a bit miffed when Soo tried to return So's gift though. I understood why she did it. She was trying to discourage So because she felt her association with him was unlucky for him. Even though I don't give much credence to the bracelet, I will be very happy when she returns it because then it means she will be using it as a discouragement to let WW know there will never be a time she will ever go back to him. I just hope that doesn't drive WW to be even more of a psychopath then he already am.

Popular Post Akiddo
There was a famous poem used in BBJX when Ruoxi professed her love to 8th Prince. He later recalled this line to 4th Prince in detail to hurt him deliberately. Since this line was never used in MLSHR and was written many years before the Goryeo era - I hope perhaps Hae Soo could use this for Wang So. 死生契阔,与子成说。执子之手,与子携老。 - whether in life or death, making a solemn vow. I will hold your hand and grow old together. This photo inspired me to think about this verse for So-Soo.

And I would agree on JG when he said that she is not left behind. She has her moments too. I love her scene during the laundry scene with WS. I felt how the restraint and relief of Hae Soo when she knew the wolf prince is real. Lee Ji Eun is Hae Soo. Hae Soo is Lee Ji Eun. I also adore how attentive she is during filming and asking questions from JG. I will be following her career now after SHR. Hope she will collab with JG a song, oh how i wish it happens here but I doubt And she is pretty in hanboks! I hope she makes it one better and write him a song for his fan meet in Japan in December. She has 3 layers to relationship: outer layer - she sings with you eg Hyukoh, zion T. Middle layer-she sings with you and uses the songs you write eg jung yong hwa from CN blue. She's very possessive of songs she's penned herself and has never let anyone sing her songs without her in it. Let's hope she'll gift LJG one, for a lasting friendship.

Popular Post briseis
Steal the Day Spoiler Theirs is such a hauntingly beautiful love story, but danger and tragedy threatens it at each step Wang So and Hae Soo take together. That’s why each step is so precious and bittersweet as it brings them both immeassurable joy and infinite sadness. Fate itself stands against them and thwarts the 4th Prince in the last moment, just as he is rushing to meet the love of his life to GIVE HER THE ONE THING HE STILL HAVEN’T - HIS WORDS OF LOVE - even though, they can’t really encompass everything he feels for her. So has already confessed and proven his love to her so many times in so many different ways, but he knows Soo NEEDS TO HEAR HIM SAY THE WORDS AND HE WANTS NOTHING MORE THAN GIVE IT TO HER. HE WANTS TO GIVE HER EVERYTHING BECAUSE SHE DOESN’T DESERVE ANYTHING LESS, BUT NOW HE CAN’T AND IS READY TO GIVE HER UP. Because the one thing HE WANTS EVEN MORE THAN HAE SOO IS FOR HER TO BE HAPPY. Spoiler When he arrives it’s clear he has already decided to tell her about his marriage and let her go, but then he sees her there - a vision in white and sky-blue, HIS SUN GODDEESS - waiting for him and wearing his lotus hairpin AND IT TAKES HIS BREATH AWAY. He is so close to HAVING EVERYTHING HE EVER WANTED because she would give it to him willingly, yet it’s so far away. And it costs him all of his willpower not to run to her and tell her he loves her, more than anything in the world. “Why would you ask me that? You asked to meet here and said I had to come because it was important.” “Did you get your hopes up high thinking that it was something great?” And in that moment, Wang So decides to be selfish (and you can even exactly pinpoint the exact second he decides to pretend nothing is wrong because it’s the moment he succumbs to the temptation of being with her even if it’s just for one fleeting day) and SEIZE THE DAY, STEALING ALL THE HAPPINESS HE CAN FOR HIMSELF BEFORE HE LOSES HER FOREVER.The most heartbreaking thing is that SHE KNOWS HE LOVES HER (and on hand, it’s adorable how nervous she and keeps fidgeting with her hands, on the other hand it’s heartbreaking how disappointed she is when he doesn’t tell her; it’s the first time HS is experiencing anything close to rejection from him) AND THANKS TO THE HAIRPIN HE NOW KNOWS THAT SHE IS READY TO ACCEPT HIS LOVE - it’s such a poignant gesture on her part that I’m going to overlook the continuity error and the fact that there must be some epic deleted scene where WS must have returned the hairpin to HS after she had rejected it together with his marriage proposal in episode 12.
