Lee Seo Jin And Park Seo Joon Share Stories About Filming “Youn’s Kitchen 2”

Source: Soompi by Y. Chang

Lee-Seo-Jin-Park-Seo-Joon.jpg

Lee Seo Jin and Park Seo Joon recently discussed their experiences of running a restaurant in Spain for the upcoming variety show “Youn’s Kitchen 2.”

tvN’s “Youn’s Kitchen” is the third successful variety show Lee Seo Jin and producing director (PD) Na Young Suk have worked on together. The two previously collaborated on “Grandpas Over Flowers” and “Three Meals A Day.” The first season, filmed in Bali, Indonesia, finished airing last May and the upcoming second season was shot in Tenerife, the largest of Spain’s Canary Islands.

Lee Seo Jin began, “It was completely different from season one. [The place we went to] wasn’t a touristy vacation spot but an actual local village, so the atmosphere itself was different.” He went on to say that this season was much more difficult than the last. “I went swimming in Bali because I had some free time, but this time, I didn’t have time to rest at all. It wasn’t just about setting spoons and chopsticks, I constantly had to change the dishes and serve customers,” Lee Seo Jin explained.

Fortunately, the restaurant appeared to have been hugely successful. “After ‘Youn’s Kitchen’ opened and word got around that the food was good, an incredible number of people rushed in,” Lee Seo Jin revealed.

One of the things Lee Seo Jin paid special attention to was the quality of the food and their manners while serving dishes, as he was opening a Korean restaurant in Spain. He said, “I thought Koreans may understand our small mistakes, but it would be different when it comes to foreigners. I thought our food and serving manners should be perfect. It was a lot harder because we had to be aware of these factors even when there were so many customers.”

Lee Seo Jin also revealed that when he first began filming “Youn’s Kitchen,” he didn’t think the program would do well. “But I think ‘Youn’s Kitchen 2’ will be more fun than season one,” he added with a smile. “I get a different feeling.”

On the other hand, “Youn’s Kitchen 2” was a completely new challenge for Park Seo Joon. Following in the footsteps of Yoon Yeo Jung, Lee Seo Jin, and Jung Yoo Mi, who featured in the first season, Park Seo Joon joined the second season as the youngest cast member.

“I did have experience from working part-time as a waiter before I debuted, but it was entirely different from that,” Park Seo Joon said. “It will be my first [long-term appearance] on a variety show. I thought I’d be distracted by the cameras because there were 40, 50 of them on the set, but I slowly began to focus on the given situation. This wasn’t like acting or being in an impromptu play; I simply became one of the people running the business. I can’t remember what my facial expressions were like or what I said.”

He went on, “There was an afterparty with all the staff and the cast yesterday. When I said, ‘I’m so worried, I can’t remember anything,’ PD Na Young Suk replied, ‘It’s always like that. You’ll know when you see [the show].’ I should watch it by myself at home or something. Right now, I’m even thinking about not watching it at all.”

Because the first season of “Youn’s Kitchen” was so successful, expectations are high for the second season as well. Park Seo Joon admitted that the high expectations are one of the things that worry him. He explained, “I had a lot of concerns as I was a new member. I think I tried harder so that I’d be recognized. There’s a lot I learned. It was a really great experience I had with good people. I wonder if I’ll ever get to have the experience of working in a completely foreign restaurant, seeing and learning new things, again.”

Park Seo Joon agreed with Lee Seo Jin that running the restaurant was far from easy. According to him, the first three to four days were the hardest, as his body wasn’t used to working that way. The actor revealed how when he watches “Kang’s Kitchen,” a currently airing show with a similar premise, featuring Kang Ho Dong, he wonders how the “Youn’s Kitchen” team managed to complete tasks that five men trip over themselves to do on “Kang’s Kitchen.”

“You’ll know what I mean when you see the show,” Park Seo Joon said. “I’m itching to say more, but I have to hold back. Until now, it was a good experience, but as [the date of the premiere] comes closer, I’m becoming more nervous. I don’t think I’ll be able to watch it.”

“Youn’s Kitchen 2” will air its first episode on January 5 at 9:50 p.m. KST.

I came here from marriage contract!

I just finished watching the drama. To be honest, i'm not sure how many times i have watched it. Haha

After watching youn's kitchen, i cant help noticing that seo jin in reality tv is the same as the character in marriage contract. When i see him in the drama, i'm reminded of his gestures in youns kitchen (minus the crying hehe)

I hope he returns to dramaland soon too while waiting for his new movie to come out

Very random and funny to me. My husband works sometimes at LAX and just now, guess who he ran into at the terminal - Lee Seojin! Thinking of me, he approached Lee Seojin and kindly asked for a photo but he was politely declined. Seemed Seojinnie was surprised that someone recognized him! Here you go!

Source: Soompi by nature1010

Lee Seo Jin And Sung Dong Il To Star In Upcoming OCN Drama

Lee Seo Jin and Sung Dong Il will be joining forces for upcoming OCN drama “Trap.”

“Trap” is an investigative thriller about national anchor Kang Woo Hyun (played by Lee Seo Jin). He goes on a trip with his family and gets caught in a trap where he faces the situation of a lifetime.

Because Kang Woo Hyun is Korea’s national anchor, he has earned the trust of the country. He appears to have everything, as he is respected by society, has a happy family, and even received love calls from political circles. However, he suddenly experiences a tragedy, losing everything in one fell sweep.

Sung Dong Il will be playing veteran detective Go Dong Kook. In charge of Kang Woo Hyun’s case, he uses his unique tenacity and instincts to dig into the case, and brings the shocking truth to life.

The drama will be the first of OCN’s “Dramatic Cinema” project. The project combines the formats of a drama and film, using the keen production of a film and the high quality stories of a drama.

“Trap” will be directed by Park Shin Woo, who previously directed “Into the White Night,” and will be written by Nam Sang Wook, who previously penned “TEN.” The overall production will be overseen by director Lee Jae Kyu, who directed “The Fatal Encounter,” “Beethoven Virus,” “Damo,” and more.

The production staff stated, “We were able to gather great actors through the quick development of the story, which makes each episode feel like a film, along with the breathtaking tension of the script. Please look forward to Lee Seo Jin’s transformation in acting, as well as Sung Dong Il’s perfectly synchronized realistic acting in ‘Trap.'”

“Trap” is slated to air in the first half of 2019.

[Orion's Daily Ramblings]

Lee Seo-jin, Sung Dong-il and Im Hwa-young Join OCN's New Project with "Trap - Drama"

Source: HanCinema.net

photo1003183.jpg

OCN has been gunning for film quality for a long time, and its new 'Dramatic Cinema' project will open with "Trap - Drama"; a hard-boiled thriller following the shocking story of national anchor Kang Woo-hyeon, who is caught in the titular trap. The series has cast Lee Seo-jin and Sung Dong-il as leads, with Im Hwa-young joining the lineup as well.

'Dramatic Cinema' is a 2019 project the goal of which is to combine the film and drama formats in order to create well-made genre pieces delivering the high quality of film production, and the packed storytelling of dramas. "Trap - Drama" will reportedly mark the birth of a new genre.

Lee Seo-jin plays Kang Woo-hyeon, the aforementioned anchor who has won the public's trust throughout the years as a reliable journalist. Although he has the respect of the people, a loving family, and is even invited into politics, he loses it all in the blink of an eye when he is caught in an unexpected tragedy while traveling with his family.

Sung Dong-il plays Go Dong-gook, a veteran detective who has a knack for field work. Dong-gook commits himself to the mysterious case of Kang Woo-hyeon, and begins to uncover the shocking truth that no one could have expected.

Im Hwa-young joins the leads as Yoon Seo-yeong, a dignified and free-spirited profiler with the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency. A mascot of her profiling team, Seo-yeong becomes involved with the case alongside Dong-gook, and brings her excellent profiling skills, as well as her dignified and honest charm into the investigation.

Directing the drama will be Park Shin-woo ("Five Is Too Many", "White Night"), while writing it will be Nam Sang-wook ("Share the Vision", "Special Affairs Team TEN"). Director Lee Jae-gyoo of films such as "Intimate Strangers" and "The Fatal Encounter", and dramas such as "Beethoven Virus" and "Damo" will be producing the series.

I'm not extensively familiar with the creators, but the 'Dramatic Cinema' project sounds like the natural next step for OCN, which has primarily been a movie channel throughout the years. Their shooting for quality is hit and miss, as with any growing pains, but this is definitely an interesting direction to follow, and I'll be keeping an eye on it.

Comedy tells what cell-phone party games can bring

By Park Jin-hai The Korea Times // HanCinema.net

photo1005997.jpg

A-listers have been gathered to star in the dramedy "Intimate Strangers," which will hit local theaters at the end of the month.

Veteran actors including Yoo Hae-jin, a top character actor reputed as a comic scene stealer in many films; Cho Jin-woong of "Assassination," "The Handmaiden" and "The Spy Gone North"; and actor and variety show host Lee Seo-jin, known for the television shows "Grandpas Over Flowers" and "Youn's Kitchen," have been cast in the much anticipated movie telling the story of close-friend couples who end up playing a cell-phone game at a housewarming dinner party where they must reveal all incoming messages and calls to each other.

"When I first read the scenario, I wondered if it could be possible to play such a game with married couples. But the interesting relations intertwined with each other made me join the project," said Yoo during a press conference at a Lotte Cinema in Seoul, Thursday. "The situations revealed while playing the game provides the participants with humor and fun. I'm sure it will create genuine and natural laughter among audiences."

Although it starts off lightly, as more and more uncomfortable hidden truths begin to surface, the game forces life-long friends to start to feel more like strangers.

Veteran actresses Yum Jung-ah, Kim Ji-soo and rising star Song Ha-yoon also join the film as their spouses respectively.

Directed by Lee Jae-kyoo, "Intimate Strangers" is a Korean adaptation of the 2016 Italian film "Perfect Stranger."

"Simply making people unlock their cell phone and reveal all its contents during the party game, makes the whole situation. Everybody has their cell phones and their own secrets.

The two facts intrigued me and inspired me to begin this project," said director Lee. "I started to wonder if a person could look at their lover's cell phone, would it always end up with happy and fun moments. When everything gets disclosed, it could incur both various funny and sad situations, I think. Everybody is imperfect and lives with their own problems, either big or small, and I thought that even among close friends, having some distance is necessary."

Yoo takes on the role of an uptight lawyer Tae-soo; Cho, an attentive plastic surgeon Seok-ho; and Lee, a chic restaurant CEO Joon-mo. Yum will play a literature loving house-wife; Kim, an attractive looking psychiatrist; and Song, a cheery veterinarian.

"If this game happens in real life, it will be a disaster in the making," said actress Kim.

The director gave high remarks to Yoo's ad libs in the scenes. "There were so many ad libs, beyond one's expectations. Yoo's impromptu lines were the best," said Lee. Yoo emerged as the "comic king" after his 2016 action comedy "Luck-Key," where he bagged his first lead role after 24 years in show business. It attracted over 7 million viewers.

"In the set scenario, I really worked hard to find the little space and to squeeze in my ad libs," the 48-yaer-old actor joked.

"Intimate Strangers" will hit local theaters Oct. 31.

Lee Seo Jin Talks About His First Film In 13 Years And Managing His Health

On the October 12 broadcast of KBS2’s “Entertainment Weekly,” Lee Seo Jin joined the show for a guerrilla date.

During the interview, the actor talked about his upcoming movie “Intimate Strangers” (literal translation).

“Intimate Strangers” is a remake of the 2016 Italian film “Perfect Strangers.” The story revolves around friends playing a game where they must share all incoming messages and calls on their cell phones. Though it starts off lightly, uncomfortable hidden truths start to surface, making them start to feel more like strangers. The lead cast includes Yoo Hae Jin, Jo Jin Woong, Yum Jung Ah, Yoon Kyung Ho, Kim Ji Soo, and Song Ha Yoon.

When asked if the cast ate dinner together frequently on set, he replied, “[We ate] every day.” Then he explained, “Since the story happens in a single night, the same food came out every day. So at first, we enjoyed it, but later, we didn’t even touch it.”

Lee Seo Jin continued, “I wanted to eat something special for dinner. We filmed in Gwangju. I looked for famous restaurants in the area every day. There’s a really good soondae [Korean blood sausage] rice soup place in front of the station.”

Infimate-Stranger.jpg

The host commented it’s been a while since the actor took part in a film besides cameo appearances. Lee Seo Jin explained that his last movie had been with Shin Hyun Joon in “Shadowless Sword” (literal translation) back in 2005. The host added Shin Hyun Joon hasn’t been appearing in movies lately either, and Lee Seo Jin joked, “I think it was the end for both Hyun Joon and me back then. I returned because of personal connections.”

It was pointed out that Lee Seo Jin had promised to reveal the contents of his cell phone if more than ten million viewers watched the movie. When the host asked if he thought his goal was unrealistic, and Lee Seo Jin said, “It means I’m not going to reveal it. I can’t reveal my phone thoughtlessly.”

Lee Seo Jin also talked about taking care of his health. He shared, “I drink fruit and vegetable juice and take about 10 kinds of supplements. There are many times I don’t feel well, so in the late afternoon, I go to the hospital. I go to the dentist, dermatologist, and family doctor.” Then he joked, “I need to go to the hospital so that I won’t have any long gaps of not doing anything until dinner.”
