Excerpted from [10Asia] Interview: Actor Cha Seung-won:

Q: Like you said, the comical aspect to Dokgo Jin was the difference between him and the typical main male characters to other romantic comedies. It’s true that we weren't able to see your unique style of humor in your recent works but it looked like you went all out with the comical set ups in this drama.

CSW: The humor I do isn't ordinary. It's quite affected and technical. And it's a style that could be repulsive but it worked well with Dokgo Jin's character. I was actually half in doubt. He could've easily been hated by people because he comes off as a very strong person in the way he talks and acts. But once people accept him, whatever he does passes. These are the sort of characters that make you laugh even when you see them on the street. That's why it's also okay for him to say weird onomatopoeic words and lines. That's why there was a lot I could do with him. And [Kong] Hyo-jin played a character that is quite realistic so the contradiction between us was what made our drama more rich. The drama would've been very boring if two very ordinary characters met and too over-the-top if it was between two characters that weren't like that. There was a good balance between the two in "The Greatest Love."

Excerpted from [Dramabeans] Cha Seung-won: I am Dokko Jin:

Q: What’s the reason for people loving Best Love?

CSW: The scripts are good, and I have a good rapport with [Gong] Hyo-jin. Hyo-jin goes after a natural, realistic acting style and I’m a technical actor, but together our different styles match remarkably well.

Excerpted from [electric ground] Cha Seung Won's me2day interview:

Q: Through Best Love, you emerged as the “prince of the romantic comedies.” You said you want to do a traditional melodrama, but for the sake of your female fans, shouldn’t you do at least one more romantic comedy?

CSW: It’s not easy to come across such a great script and directorial staff like this. It is utmost important for a romantic comedy to have strong writing. Also, the main couple has to look cute together, and must not look pitiful.

Q: Agreed! While we’re on this topic, please tell us something about your on-screen partner, Gong Hyo Jin.

CSW: She’s a charming actress. Very cute and lovable! She’s truly charming.

Actress ‘Gong Hyo Jin’ turns into a frog on ‘The Greatest Love’

Actress Gong Hyo Jin has transformed into a frog girl!

In MBC’s drama “The Greatest Love“, Goo Ae Jeong (played by Gong Hyo Jin) guests on a program called “If I Say I Will, I Will” and wears a frog suit for the ‘Human Frog Jump Contest’.

On the episode that will broadcast on May 25th, Ae Jeong, who is in her frog suit, and Dok Go Jin (played by Cha Seung Won), who is in a clean suit, will dramatically (and probably hilariously) meet each other.

20110524_1306210997.jpg

During the filming of the scene on May 22nd, the two characters were supposed to thoughtlessly pass by each other. However, Cha Seung Won suggested that the two run into each other while Ae Jeong slips, making the scene into a perfect comedic event.

“The Greatest Love“ Cha Seung-won finds out reason for “Thump Thump“

Source: Nate by asianlook via askactor.com

Cha_Seung_won_44.jpg

Cha Seung-won now knows why his heart thumps in front of Kong Hyo-jin.

On the MBC drama "The Greatest Love" on the 26th, Dok Go-jin (Cha Seung-won) goes to see the doctor who operated his heart for his regular check up.

While waiting for the doctor, Dok Go-jin finds a Girl's Nation CD and hears from a nurse that the doctor listens to their songs every time he's doing surgery. Dok Go-jin then runs to the doctor thinking, "If this is the song that was on while my heart was being operated on then it explains everything".

As he confirms that the song that was playing while he was under surgery was indeed "Thump Thump" by Girl's Nation from the doctor, he yells with joy at the fact that he wasn't responding to Goo Ae-jeong (Kong Hyo-jin) but just the song.

Meanwhile, Goo Ae-jeong had been told she was being liked by Yoon Pil-joo and Dok Go-jin had told her, "Don't step on my heart". While she knows she has to choose Yoon Pil-joo in her head, her heart is already with Dok Go-jin.

At the end of the episode, when she hears that Dok Go-jin is in the hospital from his manager, she can't help but be anxious and worried. She asks herself, "You're worrying about him being sick, you want to see him right? Ding dong!" and runs to him.

However, when Dok Go-jin sees her he coldly says, "I've got good news for you. My heart doesn't thump for you. I don't thump for you anymore". When Goo Ae-jeong asks "Does that mean you don't like me anymore?" he answers "Ding dong!" and the episode ends.

As the love line between the two turns a twist from Dok Go-jin having a crush on her to the other way round, viewers are curious as to what will happen next.

Gong Hyo Jin talks about the conclusion of “The Greatest Love”

Gong Hyo Jin of MBC’s “The Greatest Love” recently revealed her sentiments on wrapping filming for the drama.

Despite the late night filming running well into the next morning, both Gong Hyo Jin and Cha Seung Won showed true professionalism and perfectly played their parts as ‘Goo Ae Jung‘ and ‘Dok Go Jin‘ one last time. Acting as if they were a real couple, the two worked hard together to the very end.

After the final cut, Gong Hyo Jin made her rounds to personally greet and thank the staff members for their hard work over the last two months, and of course, didn’t forget to applaud her co-stars as well.

“I can’t believe it’s already over,” she said after the filming. “These two months have been so physically draining that I did leave a few regrets with my acting, but nonetheless I couldn’t be happier. ‘Goo Ae Jung’ was the most honest and outgoing role I have ever portrayed, and so I feel just as bright and bubbly as my character was.

“As a celebrity myself, I am very glad I got to play a role through which viewers can actually see what life is like for us. I hope that everyone who watched the drama won’t forget too quickly the sorrows and difficulties that celebrities go through, and that they had a chance to understand our lives a little better.”

She concluded, “I genuinely want to thank all the viewers for their love and interest in our show.”

Gong Hyo Jin is the “Queen of Romantic Comedies”

Posted on June 23, 2011 by meerkat | FeverWatch

20110623000350_0.jpg

Current kdrama, “The Greatest Love” has been receiving much love lately, and since the drama has wrapped up, lead actress Gong Hyo Jin (Pasta) shared some of her thoughts and opinions on filming the popular drama.

Gong Hyo Jin was asked who she preferred as her ideal type from a personal perspective and not as Goo Ae Jung. Would she rather have the popular actor Dokko Jin or caring Doctor Yoon Pil Joo? She answered “As someone who is over 30 years old, I would prefer someone nice and who can love me. I would choose Yoon Pil Joo. However, I understand why women love Dokko Jin. He’s fantastically attractive. However, he would drive me crazy as a husband.” What do our “Greatest Love” fans think? Dokko Jin or Yoon Pil Joo?

When Gong Hyo Jin was asked about her role as a “hated celebrity” she responded, “At first, I thought I should act as a hate-able character, but I changed my mind…I thought it could have negative impact on celebrities. The Hong sisters (who also wrote You’re Beautiful) wrote a script that was based on comedy, but it also has pain and sadness. It was difficult to act, but very fruitful.” She continued, “I thought about how to convey the truth, rather than just acting as a hated celebrity character. I wanted to let everyone know that celebrities also have feelings.”

Ironically enough, Gong Hyo Jin has been named one of the most lovable leading ladies of romantic comedies despite her “hated celebrity” character, earning her the title of “Queen of Romantic Comedies” over other actresses such as Yoon Eun Hye (Coffee Prince, Lie to Me), Sung Yoo Ri (The Snow Queen, Romance Town) and Jang Na Ra (My Love Patzzi).

Is Gong Hyo Jin truly the “Queen of Romantic Comedies” or do you think otherwise?

Crashing into wedding shop scene of MBC "The Greatest Love"

Dokgo Jin (Cha Seung-won), dressed in a tuxedo, waits for Goo Ae-jung (Kong Hyo-jin) -- the lover he has finally come to see a happy ending with after a confession, execution of potatoes and a heartbreak. They had to repeat the same lines six times for the scene where they sit next to each other and on a tablet PC, look at supportive messages from fans around the world because of having to show the scene from different angles but the string of tenderness binding the two together did not break. When Kong showed slight signs of fatigue as the waiting time in between the shoots grew longer, Cha bellowed out, “Goo Ae-jung, you can do it!” to which Kong then replied with a smile, “I can do it!” No wonder the they looked so natural doing it in the drama as well.

It is also up to the actors to boost the morale of the crew who were filming till 9 a.m. the night before. While Kong’s appearance in a wedding gown drew exclamation from the crew, Cha’s arrival instilled additional vigor to the set. And when a member of the crew announced, “Dokgo Jin has arrived,” Cha stood in front of the camera, changing “Hey Hey” which everyone followed to loudly, regaining focus and tension for the show. Thanks to that, the atmosphere on set for filming of the finale episode of the show where everyone had to struggle till the last minute was full of energy than dead serious. Everybody was probably able to bear with their fatigue and live broadcast-like filming schedule thanks to a crew which brought their copies of the script for Dokgo Jin’s autograph and the actors saying, “It’s okay to drink on a day like this,” to members of the cast who were done filming their part. MBC’s primetime series “The Greatest Love” had helped viewers let off their steam every Wednesdays and Thursdays. But the real stress-reliever to the show were the two main leads.

Cheers to Gong Hyo Jin for her great performance as Gu Ae-Jung in the Greatest Love! I believe that part of the show's success aside from great script is the stellar performance of the cast. It my first time to see her in a drama and I am delighted to discover how talented this woman is. She acts so well and create heart-warming on-screen chemistry with CSW and YKS. I wish her more success.

robbo4 The writer only included the actresses with currently airing May-June romcoms (GHJ in Best Love, YEH in Lie to Me, SYR in Romance Town, JNR in Baby-Faced Beauty). But yeah, Kim Sun-Ah still trumps them all.

rubie Thanks again for all the articles and pics. :) Gotta <3 Gu Ae-Jung's many expressions.

ais730 Glad you discovered GHJ through Best Love! Hope you get to watch more of her dramas and movies and see how insanely talented she is. I'm a sucker for the Hong Sisters' wit and puns, but totally agree that the acting elevated the script even more.
