Yoon Kyeong Moon has raised San Young single-handedly, but she struggles to tackle life's challenges. Despite occasionally causing trouble and unintentionally burdening San Young, she loves and cherishes her daughter to the point of sacrificing her own life.

Kyeong Moon fell in love at first sight with folklorist Ku Sang Mo (Jin Seon Kyu) and married him, but she hid his existence from her daughter and ran from her house when San Young was five years old.

Whereas, Kim Won Hae, a renowned actor known for seamlessly immersing himself in various roles, portrays Seo Moon Choon, a veteran detective from the Violent Crimes Unit, who is on the verge of retirement. However, he has no interest in seeking recognition and often finds himself overshadowed by others.

Jin Seon Kyu will make a special appearance as Ku Sang Mo, San Young's father, and a folklore professor. Ku Sang Mo faced criticism for delving too deep into the study of ghosts and spirits, straying beyond the boundaries of conventional academia. On June 7, SBS's upcoming supernatural thriller Revenant got its character teaser unveiled featuring Kim Tae Ri as Ku San Young.

Ku San Young is a struggling woman in her twenties who juggles part-time work during the day and prepares for the civil service exam at night. Amidst the hardships of her challenging life, she clings to the hope that her persistent efforts will eventually lead to a more stable life.

However, her routine life takes a drastic turn when she inherits a forbidden heirloom left behind by her late father, Yeom Hae Sang (Oh Jung Se).

The character teaser offers a glimpse of San Young's unsettling journey. As she begins to perceive the presence of the evil spirit, she becomes consumed by a whirlwind of conflicting emotions.

The teaser hints at the release of the evil spirit's long-repressed desires, such as the craving for physical contact and the allure of a hedonistic lifestyle. The chilling climax of the teaser, accompanied by the dialogue, "You opened the door?" gives a picture of a transformed San Young completely under the control of the malevolent entity, evoking terror and foreboding.

The production team urges audiences to brace themselves for a bone-chilling drama ahead.

Along with the teaser, two new posters were also revealed featuring Kim Tae Ri.

In the first poster version, Kim Tae Ri depicts the destitute San Young, whose desperate eyes yearn for help, as she becomes trapped in the clutches of the evil entity.

In the second poster, she depicts the demon that possesses her. Her chilling smile mockingly conveys the harsh reality that no matter how much San Young struggles, she cannot escape from the grip of the demon.

Kim Tae Ri commented about her approach to portraying the character of San Young, remarking, "I focused on immersing myself in the different situations where San Young and the demon coexist." She further explained, "Through discussions with the director, we paid attention to various details such as gestures, actions, hand movements, and even humming, in order to create distinctiveness".

Kim Tae Ri Is Both An Evil Spirit Taunting Humans And A Girl Trying To Drive An Evil Spirit Away In “Revenant” Posters

Kim Tae Ri Is Both An Evil Spirit Taunting Humans And A Girl Trying To Drive An Evil Spirit Away In “Revenant” Posters

Upcoming SBS drama “Revenant” has unveiled new character posters of Kim Tae Ri!

Written by famous scriptwriter Kim Eun Hee of “Sign,” “Ghost,” “Signal,” and “Kingdom,” “Revenant” is an occult mystery thriller in which a woman possessed by an evil spirit and a man who can see those evil spirits inside human bodies dig into the mysterious deaths surrounding five divine objects.

Kim Tae Ri stars as Goo San Young, a young woman in her twenties who works part-time during the day and studies for her civil service exam at night. She gets possessed by an evil spirit after receiving a keepsake belonging to her late father Goo Kang Mo (Jin Seon Kyu) that she should have never received.

The newly released character posters feature two versions of Goo San Young: one that is slightly colored by the demon’s shadow (the “San Young version”) and one that is completely possessed by the evil spirit (the “evil spirit version”), creating a contrasting atmosphere.

In the San Young version, she has an unexplainable wistfulness in her eyes, as if she’s begging for help. The poster also seems to depict her dejected feelings of assimilating to the evil spirit covering half of her face like a shadow while attempting to drive it away.

Revenant-kim-tae-hee.jpg

On the other hand, the evil spirit version features Goo San Young with a creepy sneer that seems to be mocking humans for being unable to defeat their demons despite their best efforts.

Revenant-poster.jpg

The production team shared, “In the drama ‘Revenant,’ ‘shadow’ is an important medium to recognize the evil spirit. We also utilized it in our character posters as an object to symbolize the evil spirit.”

“Revenant” has been garnering a lot of attention for being Kim Tae Ri’s first thriller drama. While talking about the portrayal of her character, Kim Tae Ri revealed, “I tried to focus on the differences in the situations of San Young and the evil spirit.” She added, “I consulted with the director and made differentiations in various details such as movements, actions, hands, and humming.”

At the center of San Young’s narrative is the keyword “youth.” Kim Tae Ri recalled, “The first thing the writer said to me was that the story that the viewer will encounter at the end is ‘youth.'” She continued, “I’ve seen youths in their 20s without dreams in many stories, but I had never seen such a character in a Korean occult series, so I was curious to see how it could be incorporated.”

As “Revenant,” which has folklore as its main subject, also stars Oh Jung Se as folklore professor Yeom Hae Sang, the actress briefly talked about this field and why she chose to appear in the drama. Kim Tae Ri shared, “I was intrigued by the Korean occult genre, which I had not tried before, and I thought it would be interesting.” She added, “The field of folklore is really interesting and I think it will be meaningful work in the sense that it is a dying discipline.”

Finally, Kim Tae Ri advised viewers on how to watch “Revenant,” sharing, “Just clear your mind and let your eyes and ears be guided by the situation. And the best way to watch the drama is to solve the mystery together with San Young and Yeom Hae Sang.”

“Revenant” will premiere on June 23 at 10 p.m. KST. Watch a teaser here!

Oh Jung Se Is A Desolate Folklorist Who Sees Ghosts In Poster For Upcoming Occult Drama “Revenant”
Drama Preview

by S. Kim

20230608025237_Revenant_Oh-Jung-Se_01-1.

SBS’s upcoming drama “Revenant” has unveiled a new poster featuring Oh Jung Se!

Written by famous scriptwriter Kim Eun Hee of “Sign,” “Ghost,” “Signal,” and “Kingdom,” “Revenant” is an occult mystery thriller in which a woman (Kim Tae Ri) possessed by an evil spirit and a man who can see those evil spirits inside human bodies dig into the mysterious deaths surrounding five divine objects.

Oh Jung Se transforms into folklore professor Yeom Hae Sang, who has been able to see ghosts and gods since he was younger. Due to this unique ability, Yeom Hae Sang has found it difficult to get along with others and instead prioritizes his folklore research.

In the newly released poster, Yeon Hae Sang puts on a cynical and expressionless face, but his gaze that sharply observes the opponent is intense. The shadow which symbolizes the “revenant” in the drama covers half of his face. It seems to also symbolize Yeom Hae Sang’s life in which he has lived with ghosts all his life.

Oh Jung Se remarked, “Expressions such as ‘to honor,’ ‘to remember,’ and ‘to commemorate’ are very important to Hae Sang. While working on this project, I also felt that these words come to me very differently from before. It feels like the meaning [of these words] itself has become thicker and deeper.” The actor shared that even though the drama is fiction, he tried not to lose his sincere mindset and devout attitude throughout his acting.

SBS's upcoming K-drama, Revenant unveiled its third teaser.

The teaser provides a glimpse into the perplexing incidents Ku San Young (Kim Tae Ri) finds herself in as a result of being possessed by a vicious demon. It also showcases the relentless pursuit of folklore professor Yeom Hae Sang (Oh Jung Se), who has been searching for the evil entity his entire life, and police officer Lee Hong Sae (Hong Kyung), who is determined to uncover the truth behind the numerous deaths happening in the vicinity of San Young.

Upon receiving her inheritance from her late father, San Young becomes consumed by fear as she starts experiencing strange sights and sounds. She feels disconnected from herself and is terrified of her own actions. Realizing this, she tells, "It seems like I am not me". And what's worse is mysterious deaths surround her, thrusting San Young into the abyss of helplessness.

In the midst of the portrayal of the frequent deaths, a significant detail revealed in this teaser is the presence of "red bruises" on the wrists of the deceased, as if someone had tightly gripped them.

In the next scene, Yeom Hae Sang claims to have finally discovered the demon he has been searching for decades. Whereas, Detective Lee Hong Sae makes a resolute decision to catch the culprit at all costs.

Towards the end of the teaser San Young's desperate cry, "It's happening again, someone is going to die", conveys the overwhelming chaos and despair she is engulfed in.

The teaser concludes with San Young's plea, "I don't want to die".

Kim Tae-ri and Oh Jung-se pursue a demon in Revenant

by solstices

Suspenseful, creepy, and penned by Kim Eun-hee — this drama is right up my alley. SBS’s upcoming occult thriller Revenant is amping up the chills with another teaser, featuring the demon-possessed Kim Tae-ri (Twenty Five Twenty One) and the demon hunter Oh Jung-se (Little Women).

The teaser opens with the literature professor Yeom Hae-sang (Oh Jung-se) coming face-to-face with the possessed Gu San-young (Kim Tae-ri) atop a bridge. Owing to his ability to see demons, Hae-sang immediately recognizes the malevolent entity haunting San-young — it’s the same one that took his mother’s life when he was a child.

The realization that something’s not quite right is also beginning to dawn on San-young; plagued by odd visions and inexplicable sounds, San-young’s afraid that she might end up committing monstrous deeds. In a creepy scene, we see San-young asleep at her desk, while her reflection in the mirror slowly rises to her feet.

As strange occurrences crop up in San-young’s vicinity and investigations commence, one peculiar clue surfaces — all the victims have a red bruise on their wrists, as if someone had gripped them tightly. Terrified, San-young confesses that she doesn’t feel like herself.

And so, the pursuit of the elusive demon begins. Not only is Hae-sang anxious to banish the monster he’s been tracking down for years, but lieutenant Lee Hong-sae — played by Hong Kyung (Weak Hero Class 1) — is also hot on its heels. As for San-young, she can’t stand the thought of any more blood on her hands. “It’s starting again,” she gasps, voice quivering, “yet another person will die.”

With special appearances by Jin Seon-gyu (Behind Every Star) and Pyo Ye-jin (Taxi Driver 2), alongside veterans like Yeh Soo-jung (Wild Boar Hunting) and Kim Hae-sook (Divorce Attorney Shin) in the supporting cast, my anticipation for this drama is certainly sky-high.

Written by Kim Eun-hee (Kingdom, Signal) and directed by Lee Jung-rim (V.I.P), Revenant is slated for a June 23 premiere.

With only a week left till its premiere, SBS's upcoming supernatural drama, Revenant, released a new teaser, giving a sneak peek into Ku San Young's (Kim Tae Ri) ordinary life being thrown into the whirlwind of chaos because of the perplexing deaths that surround her and the evil spirit responsible for them, offering a tantalizing preview of the unfolding mystery. As curiosity mounts about how and why the evil spirit is taking lives, the teaser gives a glimpse of the entity slowly engulfing San Young in its clutches.

Upon learning of her deceased father, Professor Ku Kang Mo (Jin Seon Kyu), San Young visits his former residence, where she receives an heirloom left behind by him from her grandmother, Kim Seok Ran (Ye Soo Jung). However, her inheritance is more than just an object.

After a while, San Young catches the attention of Yeom Hae Sang (Oh Jung Se), a folklorist who has pursued the evil spirit responsible for his mother's death for many years. He now sees the same spirit that took his mother's life possessing San Young and tries to caution her about it. But San Young doesn't heed his warning.

The evil entity gradually begins to thrust those around her into death. And investigating the suspicious deaths are Lee Hong Sae (Hong Kyung), an officer from the Violent Crimes Investigation Division, and his partner Seo Moon Choon (Kim Won Hae).

Despite all evidence pointing to suicides, what raises suspicions is the recurring presence of bruised wrists on the deceased, as if someone had tightly gripped them. Even more intriguing is the connection between these victims and San Young. Overwhelmed by confusion, she questions, "Could it really be because of me?", and finally comes to accept that she is possessed by an evil spirit.

However, as the spirit gradually reveals its presence, it stirs dormant desires within San Young, threatening to consume her completely. Towards the end, her harrowing screams, as she witnesses the damage she is responsible for, leave viewers wonderstruck by Kim Tae Ri's passionate performance in depicting the pain her character suffers.

The production team advises viewers, as per writer Kim Eun Hee's request, to momentarily close their eyes when it gets scary and to pay attention to even the smallest details, as inferring the hidden story will make the drama even more entertaining to watch.

Revenant will be released on June 23 on Disney+. Watch the latest teaser here

With only three days left until the premiere, Revenant released its video of the opening credits, giving a sneak peek into the dark supernatural thriller that viewers await.

Revenant (written by Kim Eun Hee and directed by  Lee Jung Rim) is a Korean occult mystery drama that revolves around a woman haunted by an evil spirit and a man who has the ability to see them.

The tile sequence gives a gloomy and terrifying depiction of what to expect from the drama. It starts with the moon changing its phase, and the scene shifts to a body hanging from a tree. Other grim scenes include a dead body covered by a white sheet, shadows lurking in a corridor, and a woman with untamed hair flying about.

What grabs attention in the video is the portrayal of the evil spirit through shadows. Director Lee Jung Rim explained in an interview, "Similar to the shadows symbolizing evil spirits in the story, we aimed to embody the existence of demons and gods using familiar elements commonly seen in our lives".

The title sequence also presents a variety of intriguing images of the mystery of the evil spirit waiting to be unraveled. And Ku San Young (Kim Tae Ri), folklore scholar Yeom Hae Sang (Oh Jung See), and Detective Lee Hong Sae (Hong Kyung) are tasked with unraveling this mystery.

Images of a person hanging from a tree, an anonymous hand attempting to open a door, grotesque shadows growing larger in a seemingly endless corridor, and the woman at the end, all evoke a sense of curiosity and anticipation for the drama.

The production team emphasized, "As Revenant is a Korean occult work based on folklore, we sought to express its essence in an Eastern artistic style in the opening credits. This video contains multiple storylines, and as Revenant is unveiled, viewers will enjoy exploring and re-evaluating the hidden meanings encapsulated within". The captivating opening credits video has sparked interest, leaving viewers eager for more.

Revenant will be released on June 23 on Disney+. Watch the opening credits here

Premiere Watch: Revenant

by missvictrix

Time slot: Friday-Saturday
Broadcaster: SBS
Genre: Occult, supernatural, thriller
Episode count: 12

Reasons to watch: Well, if you’re me there are no reasons to watch this because it’s terrifying, but generally speaking, the interest in well-crafted occult thrillers is high. And with Kim Tae-ri and Oh Jung-se in the lead here (and with the PD from the excellently directed VIP, too!) there is a lot of attention on this upcoming SBS drama.

Kim Tae-ri plays a young woman demon possessed against her knowledge, and Oh Jung-se is a literature professor (yes please) who recognizes the demon’s havoc and tries to deal with the situation. Up-and-comer Hong Kyung plays the police detective who is also involved, giving us a pretty awesome leading cast of three. So, if supernatural terror is your flavor, pull up a seat and enjoy!

TL;DR: Kim Tae-ri is possessed by a demon and Oh Jung-se is on the job (also, bring a pillow to grab)
