Kingdom screenwriter Kim Eun Hee's upcoming supernatural thriller Revenant is set to premiere on June 23 as the new Friday-Saturday drama on SBS. To announce the premiere date of this Korean occult mystery thriller, a teaser poster has also been revealed.

The story of Revenant revolves around Ku San Young - a young woman who works part-time jobs during the day to earn her livelihood and studies during the night to seek a job as a public officer. One day, she gets her hands on some articles left behind by her father, and since then, she encounters mysterious experiences and deaths and finds herself gradually changing. 

But there is one man who can figure out the mystery surrounding the inexplicable happenings and experiences of Ku San Young. Yeom Hae Sang hails from a well-off family and is a professor teaching Korean folklore at a university. Ever since childhood, he had the unique ability to see evil forces and even witnessed his mother's death by a demon. Yeom Hae Sang sees the demon possessing Ku San Young, and together they try to uncover the truth of the mysterious deaths. 

Adding to the excitement are the talented actors, including Kim Tae Ri in the role of Ku San Young, while Oh Jung Se plays Yeom Hae Sang. Furthermore, Hong Kyung will be seen as Detective Lee Hong Sae of the violent crimes investigation team who gets entangled in the mysterious cases along with Ku San Young and Yeom Hae Sang.

The poster features hands emerging from the depths of darkness, seemingly poised to strangle, while numerous hands appear to restrain them, giving an unsettling atmosphere. The caption writes, "I killed a person, not me".

The teaser commences with San Young narrating, "Outside the door is another world, when you open the door, there are demons", arousing suspense and intrigue. As San Yeong trembles upon receiving her late father's forbidden heirloom, an eerie sense of fear takes hold.

Haunted by an evil spirit that preys on human desires, San Young finds herself entangled in a series of perplexing incidents. Hae Sang (Oh Jung Se), the only person capable of seeing the evil spirits, strives to prevent further tragedies. However, in the face of the demon's cunning manipulation of human psyches, people become increasingly vulnerable and helpless. Ultimately, Hae Sang's desperate plea of "No!" echoes, leaving only death in its wake.

The teaser for Revenant evokes a palpable sense of suspense, fear, and anticipation.

The production team stated, "Kim Eun Hee's solid scriptwriting skills, the outstanding performances of actors Kim Tae Ri, Oh Jung Se, Hong Kyung, and others, and director  Lee Jung Rim's distinctive creative talent create a perfect ensemble that surpasses other dramas in the genre. Plot Synopsis by AsianWiki: When the door to another world opens, demons exists there. Ku San-Young (Kim Tae-Ri), is possessed by one of those demon. Yeom Hae-Sang comes from a rich background. He teaches Korean folklore at a university. Since he was a child, he has had the special ability to see demons in this world. Written by famous scriptwriter Kim Eun Hee of “Sign,” “Ghost,” “Signal,” and “Kingdom,” “Revenant” is an occult mystery thriller in which a woman possessed by an evil spirit and a man who can see those evil spirits inside human bodies dig into the mysterious deaths surrounding five divine objects.

The star-studded cast includes Kim Tae Ri as Goo San Young, who gets possessed by evil spirits, Oh Jung Se as Yeom Hae Sang, a folklore professor who sees the evil spirits, and Hong Kyung as Lee Hong Sae, a detective who tracks down the mysterious death surrounding Goo San Young.

The eerie teaser begins with Goo San Young narrating, “Outside this door is a different world. When you open this door, there are evil spirits.”

The mysterious atmosphere turns terrifying when Goo San Young is given a keepsake belonging to her late father that she should have never received, as it changes her gaze in an instant.

Now possessed by evil spirits wanting to pierce human desires, mysterious cases continue to arise around Goo San Young. The only person able to see this spirit is folklore professor Yeom Hae Sang, who does everything he can to stop matters from getting worse. But humans turn out to be no match for this evil spirit that skillfully abuses human psychology, as the teaser ultimately ends with Yeom Hae Sang crying out, “No!”

The cast of the upcoming supernatural thriller Revenant, along with the production team, came together for the script reading session of the K-drama, to give a glimpse of their synergy and the roles they play. 

 

 

Kim Tae Ri plays the role of Ku San Young - a young woman who works part-time jobs during the day to earn her livelihood and studies during the night to seek a job as a public officer. But her routine life takes a drastic turn when she receives her father's heirloom which brings forth a series of perplexing incidents and leaves her possessed by an evil spirit. 

 

 

The actress skillfully portrayed the complex character of Ku San Young, who consistently gives her best even in the face of harsh realities, and is possessed by an evil spirit. Her performance created a palpable sense of tension and fear, leaving everyone impressed and fully engaged.

Oh Jung Se plays the role of Yeom Hae Sang, a professor teaching Korean folklore at a university who has had a unique ability to see evil forces since childhood. It is because of this unique ability, Yeom Hae Sang struggles to connect with others and immerses himself in the study of folklore. Unfazed by the weight of the role, Oh Jung Se skillfully portrayed the character with a sombre expression and a commanding voice, effectively bringing to life a passionate scholar who perseveres to unravel the mysteries surrounding evil spirits.

 

 

Hong Kyung, in his role as police officer Lee Hong Sae, also lived up to the expectations. Lee Hong Sae is a detective with a strong sense of individuality, who gets entangled in mysterious cases along with Ku San Young and Yeom Hae Sang.

Last November, the cast and crew of “Revenant” held their first script reading with director Lee Jung Rim, writer Kim Eun Hee, and lead actors Kim Tae Ri, Oh Jung Se, Hong Kyung, Park Ji Young, Kim Won Hae, and Ye Soo Jung. Also present for the reading was Jin Sun Kyu, who will make a special appearance in the drama.

 

Kim Tae Ri stars as Goo San Young, whom she describes as a young woman in her twenties who works part-time during the day and studies for her civil service exam at night. However, she comes to receive a keepsake from her late father that she should have never received as it causes an evil spirit to instantly possess her. Kim Tae Ri will lead the drama as both Goo San Young who survives a tough lifestyle by doing her best and Goo San Young who has been possessed by an evil spirit.

 

 

Oh Jung Se will play folklore professor Yeom Hae Sang who has been able to see ghosts and gods since he was younger. Due to this unique ability, Yeom Hae Sang has found it difficult to get along with others and instead prioritizes his folklore research.

 

 

Hong Kyung takes on the role of elite police detective Lee Hong Sae, who has clear self-control and a tough attitude that focuses on performance and results. However, his personality slowly starts to change when he meets his partner Seo Mun Chun (Kim Won Hae) and encounters a variety of mysterious cases.

 

 

Jin Sun Kyu will make a special appearance in “Revenant” as Goo Kang Mo, Goo San Young’s mysterious folklorist father. Goo Kang Mo risks everything he has to catch evil spirits, but ultimately meets an untimely death. Despite Jin Sun Kyu only making a special appearance, Goo Kang Mo will prove to be a key player in helping solve the mystery of the evil spirits.

The upcoming supernatural drama Revenant released stills of Kim Tae Ri and Oh Jung Se. 

In the K-drama, Oh Jung Se takes on the role of Yeom Hae Sang, a folklore professor hailing from an affluent family. Jung Se has a unique ability to see ghosts and spirits since childhood and has relentlessly pursued the evil spirit that killed his mother. One day, he encounters Ku San Young (Kim Tae Ri), who is possessed by the same evil spirit that took away his mother. He then decides to put his abilities to use to save San Young. 

The still cuts released by the production team portray the scholarly side of Yeom Hae Sang. He is seen lecturing about the familiar yet unfamiliar field of folklore and dedicates himself to researching various materials to uncover the identity of the otherworldly mysteries. 

 

The actor commented that he had pondered a lot about how to approach his character, and said, "I decided to follow his emotional journey little by little to understand why he started chasing evil spirits". 

He added, "Hae Sang encounters many people, who are exposed to danger, while chasing evil spirits. Sometimes he is able to help them, and sometimes he misses the opportunity to lend a hand. SBS has unveiled a second teaser for the upcoming supernatural series Revenant. 

The teaser commences with Yeom Hae Sang (Oh Jung Se) asking Kim Tae Ri, "Is your name Ku San Young?". San Young asks in return, "Do you know me?". He then reveals to her that she has been possessed by a demon. 

In the next scene, San Young annoyingly tells Hae Sang, who seems to have been trying to convince her of the danger she is in, "I don't believe in ghosts, nor do I have time to believe in them".

Soon after, as mysterious deaths and unexplained disappearances surround Ku San Young, Detective Lee Hong Sae (Hong Kyung) begins to take notice of her, and asks, "Why is it that bad things keep happening to people you know? They either die or disappear". Then another voice in the background says, "If we don't find them quickly, that woman will also die". 

As Ku San Young gradually becomes aware of the encroaching evil, she finds herself embroiled in a desperate struggle alongside Hae Sang to thwart the demon's nefarious intentions.

With each step they take toward unraveling the true nature of the evil spirit, they draw closer to its ominous presence. Towards the end, the teaser gives a spine-chilling scene when the evil entity possessing Ku San Young comes face to face with Hae Sang. Her eyes undergo a sinister change, and her wicked smile mocks Hae Sang telling him that there is nothing he can do to defeat the demon.

This contrasts starkly with the characters Kim Tae Ri has taken on in her previous works, through which she channeled bright and youthful energy. It is easy to resonate with the exhaustion of young adulthood when viewers see Goo San Young with a large delivery bag on her back and notepad in hand to study whenever possible. The evil spirit delves into Goo San Young’s arduous desires filled with animosity, sending chills down one’s spine with its intense and chilling gaze.

 

 

Taking on her first thriller drama, Kim Tae Ri commented, “The fact that it was a genre I had never tried before was the biggest selling point. Coincidentally, I had been exposed to a lot of occult materials, but they usually dealt with Western ghosts. However, ‘Revenant’ was fresh, intriguing, and, above all, seemed fun as a Korean occult series.” Regarding portraying two different entities, she stated, “I focused on each situation. I tried to differentiate them through my actions because I had to channel different beings in an instant with the same face. I hope viewers pay close attention to the small details of the performance while watching the show.”
