'The Tale of a Nine Tailed Fox 1938' Ryu Kyung-soo, with a high density of vengeance and bitterness... 'Immersion 1938%'

OSEN=Reporter Choi Na-young] Actor Ryu Kyung-soo doubled his immersion by adding a three-dimensional effect to the character with colorful emotional lines.

In 'The Tale of a Nine Tailed Fox 1938', which aired on the 3rd, Moo-young (Ryu Kyung-soo) and Yi-yeon (Lee Dong-wook) were shown having a last drink.

On this day, Moo-young had a fistfight with Yi-yeon, who came to visit him, and drank a glass of alcohol. In the midst of this, Moo-young asked Yi-yeon what his existence was, and conveyed his sincerity that they were each other's dream.

On the other hand, Moo-young, worried that he might have been shaken by Yi-yeon's visit, assured his brother, "If I thought I would be shaken, I wouldn't have come this far." However, he asked why he tried to kill him in the past, and revealed the bitterness that remained in one side of his heart by blurting out how much Taluipa (played by Kim Jeong-nan) cared for him.

In addition, Moo-young, who visited the Bando Hotel with his yachts to get the guardian stone and the gold ruler, was unexpectedly caught up in the mercenary group's shenanigans and had a fight for the treasure with Lee Yeon and Hong Joo (Kim So-yeon) in the forest. The true nature of the mercenary group was revealed, especially in the ironic fight between the three friends, who were murderous but cared about each other, leaving us wondering how it would play out in the future.

In this way, Ryu Kyung-soo portrayed both the original innocent face and the blackened face after losing everything, making the characters more three-dimensional and convincing at the same time. Above all, the actor's depth of characterisation while breaking down the boundaries between good and evil confirmed his exceptional characterisation.

In addition, Ryu Kyung-soo's eyes, which conveyed bitterness, longing, and loneliness beyond revenge, were the narrative of Moo-young itself, which did not require any explanation. In this way, more attention is focused on the performance of Ryu Kyung-soo, who is raising the immersion of the home theater by spreading high-density hot acting.

Kim Bum immersed himself even more in the story with his characterisation, which was unimaginable without him. His cold eyes and grumbling mannerisms conveyed Lee Rang's rebelliousness, while his emotional outbursts when he revealed his broken heart won him many viewers' favour. It will be interesting to see what Kim Bum has in store for the second half of 'Gumiho-dan 1938'.

tvN’s “Tale of the Nine-Tailed 1938” dropped new stills ahead of the upcoming episode!

“Tale of the Nine-Tailed 1938” is a sequel to the hit 2020 drama “Tale of the Nine-Tailed,” which told the story of the male gumiho (mythical nine-tailed fox) Yi Yeon (Lee Dong Wook) in the present day. However, in the new sequel, he unexpectedly finds himself back in 1938, and he embarks on an eventful adventure in his quest to return to the present.

Spoilers

Previously, Yi Yeon prepared for battle against those who were seeking to take the “treasure” away from him. Yi Yeon also planned to take down the Shinigami mercenaries, who were bullying the native Joseon spirits in crafty ways, before returning to the modern era. In order to do so, Yi Yeon planned to bring Ryu Hong Joo (Kim So Yeon) and Cheon Moo Young (Ryu Kyung Soo) to his side to fight together against the mercenaries.

The newly released stills capture the powerful aura of the three mountain gods Yi Yeon, Ryu Hong Joo, and Cheon Moo Young. In the ending of the previous episode, Ushiuchibo (Jung Jae Won) surprised the three by unexpectedly appearing in front of them while spreading poisonous fog. However, the unwavering gazes of the three mountain gods preview their victory as they also manage to capture Ushiuchibo, raising anticipation for what changes they will bring as they succeed in their hunt when working together.

In the tvN Saturday and Sunday drama 'The Tale of a Gumiho 1938' (directed by Kang Shin-hyo, scripted by Han Woo-ri, and produced by Studio Dragon and How Pictures), which aired on the 4th, Kim Soo-jin disassembled into a snail, causing fun and tension, drawing enthusiastic responses from viewers.

Ureonggaksi raised tension by informing Seonwoo Eun-ho (Kim Yong-ji) of the identity of the police chief (Ha Do-kwon). Gaksi Ureong advised Seonwoo Eun-ho, who was in danger of marrying the police chief, that she was “not that man” and advised, “You mustn’t get close to him.”

Gaksi Ureong showed Eun-ho a box containing dynamite, unable to hold back her anger, and said, “Even if I die with the police chief in my arms. You are beautiful trying to protect Joseon.”

Kim Su-jin, who plays the role of a snail, heightened tension by showing different facial expression variations in the tense situation. 'The Tale of a Nine Tailed Fox 1938' Ryu Kyung-soo dances in 3 beats

news-p.v1.20230605.dd5043038af8494badbb3

Actor Ryu Kyung-soo enhanced the fun and completeness of the work at the same time with explosive chemistry.

In 'The Tale of a Nine Tailed 1938', which aired on the 4th, Moo-young (Ryu Kyung-soo) was portrayed showing off his chemistry with Lee Yeon (Lee Dong-wook) and Hong-ju (Kim So-yeon).

On this day, Moo-young was in a critical situation due to the poison fog of Ushiuchi-bo (played by Jeong Jae-won) of the mercenary group. Nevertheless, he started a so-called rabbit hunt with Yiyeon and Hongju, and showed a surprising sum in the midst of a crisis, giving a sense of exhilaration.

On the other hand, Moo-young, who saw Yiyeon's antidote, which he had exchanged gold with Yuki (played by Kim Seung-hwa), remained suspicious until the end. However, when he confirmed that it was the real antidote, he reluctantly accepted Lee Yeon's condition to join forces against the mercenaries and joined hands.

However, Moo-yeong, who was not in good health, devoted herself to recovering with Hong-ju for the battle, and looked at Hong-ju with jealousy as she took care of Yi-yeon, who was trying to find the mercenary. In addition, when only the two of them were left, they confessed their sincerity by unraveling the mixed feelings of the three, arousing regret.

In this way, Ryu Kyung-soo bursts with fantasy chemistry with shaggy characters who are his old friends and enemies competing for treasure, raising excitement and tension together. In addition to perfect breathing, the action and delicate emotional acting were added to it, arousing admiration from viewers.

Above all, Ryu Kyung-soo, who unraveled the unrequited love story that has been going on since childhood with his heavy voice and sad eyes, doubled his interest by inducing sympathy in reality. Ryu Kyung-soo's irreplaceable presence, which was proved by such a good performance, led to favorable reviews by forming the main axis of 'The Tale of a Gumiho 1938'.

Meanwhile, the tvN drama 'The Tale of a Gumiho 1938' starring Ryu Kyung-soo is broadcast every Saturday and Sunday at 9:20 pm.

Tale of the Nine Tailed: 1938 – K-drama Episode 10 Recap & Review

4 June 2023 by Greg Wheeler

Episode 10 of Tale of the Nine Tailed starts with the crazed Mercenary confronting the Mountain Gods and introducing himself. This is Ushichibo, and he’s a demon hat hunts animals with deadly poison. He’s here to cause destruction. In fact, he points out that they’ve just breathed in a fog of poison that happens to be in the air.

As Hong-joo and Moo-yeong start to experience a litany of different curses, Ushichibo gives them an hour, otherwise they’ll be bleeding to death based on this poison. And it’s all down to Yeon.

Yeon won’t let this happen and decides to hand over the bag, in exchange for an antidote. Surprise, it’s all a ruse! The three Gods work together and demand the Mercenary hand it over, otherwise they’re going to seriously shred him to pieces, with a bag full of tools too. Hong-joo grabs a sledgehammer, ready to break one bone at a time.

As Ushichibo’s screams pierce the air, the other Mercenaries realize what’s happening and race off to find their brother. As they do, Yeon saves Hong-joo from a deadly bit of acid spit. Hong-joo then strikes the demon hard, three times until he dies.

Back inside Bando Hotel, a whole flock of Yacha turn this into a horrific zombie apocalypse. Rang and Yeo-hee seem to have no way out, until the Bandit Boss jumps in and saves them both, clearing a path and managing to get out the main atrium.

Yeo-hee ends up getting bitten by a Yacha out in the hallway. Rang takes her into the bedroom and is shocked when he realizes she could actually die from this. Rang obviously has feelings for her and admits that seeing her sing with her happy face made him believe he should live and gave him a reason to do so.

And as they sit together, Rang hands over the ring to symbolize how he really feels, solidifying his love. He doesn’t intend to stumble or run anymore because he has her. That is, until she starts burning up and running a fever. Rang puts her in bed but he struggles to hold back tears as Yeo-hee passes out from her injuries. She’s still alive but it’s definitely touch and go.

Eun-ho is shocked to learn she’s about to become Kato’s husband. However, she’s warned that the Chief Commander is not human and is urged not to get close. He could well be the person who harmed her sister too. Eun-ho has an idea to try and stop him, and that starts with her telling her parents she’s going to go ahead with the marriage.

Back in the painting, Yeon returns the antidote to the Mountain Gods, who are wary around whether Yuki may have tricked them. Yeon decides to take it first and thankfully, it’s definitely not another poison or anything deadly that could kill them. However, Yuki gets the ruler in this trade.

Yeon has conditions for handing over this antidote. They have to agree to help track down and kill these Mercenaries; all three of them together just like old times. Yeon admits he needs Moo-yeong’s talents, given the snow lady will probably end up being bested by Moo-yeong, as he has fire powers. Moo-yeong does the right thing and agrees to fight alongside his old friend one more time, even if begrudgingly.

Together, they work out what they’re up against here. We already know abut Yuki but there’s also Oogama, a centuries-old toad demon. He’s incredibly strong. The third guy is the boss but they’re not sure who he is nor what his powers are. So Yeon decides he’s going to go after that one.

As he leaves, Hong-joo heads in to give him a massive hug and hand over a bunch of trinkets. Only, she’s sly and actually takes the bag holding the stone without his knowledge!

Yeon heads out into the wilderness and lo and behold, he stumbles upon that final God. He claims to be an indigenous God and tries to jump on Yeon’s back. Just before he does, Yeon realizes what’s going on and suddenly stabs the guy through the stomach, pointing out that he was luring him in the whole time. He knows the poison bender from earlier smelled just like this guy.

This is Onyudo, and he launches himself at Yeon, wrapping his arms around him and switching places with the Mountain God. He’s a body-switching demon, and with Yeon in the old man’s body, the new Yeon is dismayed to learn the stone isn’t in his pocket.

Onyudo rushes off while Yeon is left alone with a nasty wound through the stomach and forced to try and find some way to stop this tricksy God. He’s also worried that Onyudo may pretend to be him and trick both Moo-yeong and Hong-joo.

That is precisely what happens, as it turns out, and although Yeon manages to lure Hong-joo and Moo-yeong out of hiding, Yeon realizes he can do the same thing, given the other Gods are unaware of the switch at this point.

Back at the hotel, it turns out that there may be something to cure Yeo-hee’s injuries. This comes from brewed iris pistil. Jae-yoo tells the group as much and Shin-joo realizes that there’s actually some at the hotel, but downstairs at the bar. It’s Madame Ryu’s and it’s surrounded by a sea of Yacha.

The mission goes ahead and the group work together to try and track down the brew, using the record plyer as a way of luring them over.

The whole plan goes awry, but Shin-joo does manage to get the antidote, although it comes at the expense of Satori, a guy who happens to join them. However, this antidote may have come a little too late with the girls worried and believing they should kill Yeo-hee before she turns.

Back with Yeon, he manages to talk to the other Mercenaries and convince them he’s not switched over. However, he’s taken aback by the fact that there are five Mercenaries rather than four. And the fifth? It turns out it’s Satori, who happens to be in Bando Hotel and with Rang and the group. He pretended to sacrifice himself for the others, but in reality he’s every bit a part of this game as the others.

The Episode Review

What an ominous ending to this exciting, action packed episode! There are definitely shades of Dragon Ball Z in this chapter, what with Nyudo’s shape-shifting abilities and the different powers, which does have some similarities to the Ginyu Force, which is an amusing observation for those keen anime watchers!

As for the episode itself, the dual focus between Rang at the hotel and those inside the painting lends itself nicely to a quick pace, and the rapid fire of editing, keeping both storylines fresh and exciting, harks back to just how impressive this second season has been.

This feels like a completely different show now compared to the first, leaping lightyears ahead of its predecessor to deliver a rip-roaring good time.

The final two episodes of this look set to really tighten the screw and step up, with plenty of drama and action to follow. Will Yeon switch back? Will Rang learn the truth about Satori? We’ll have to wait and see!

‘Tale Of The Nine Tailed 1938’ Episode 10 Recap & Ending Explained: Who Is The Fifth Shinigami Mercenary?

June 5, 2023

Tale-of-the-Nine-Tailed-1938-Recap-Endin

We have seen Lee Yeon be clever plenty of times, but the tenth episode of Tale of the Nine Tailed 1938, was when we saw him deliberately be a “sly fox.” That was probably the most attractive he has been since the series began. It did not matter that there was someone who could get the best of him because the Lee Yeon show is about how he can beat all odds to show up for his lady love. On that note, Lee Yeon’s time in 1938 was supposed to last a month. In Episode 9, we saw that he barely had 3–4 days left in this era. Does that mean that each day is going to be stretched out over 2-3 episodes, like this week was? We wouldn’t complain as long as the writers managed to keep it entertaining because Episode 10 was a bit slow. The zombie scenes were inspired a little too much by Train to Busan for us to find them enthralling. But keeping that aside, here is a recap of it.

What Is Happening At The Bando Hotel?

First of all, we thought that the name of the bandit, who was Lee Rang’s right-hand man, was Dok Soo. Turns out, it is Lee Mi Yeon, and he gets ragged for it as it is a pretty name. Moving on, Yeo Hee gets bitten by a zombie, and now her time is limited. Lee Rang doesn’t know how to save her; therefore, he decides to die with her should the time come. But he gets lucky when he finds that Jae Yoo might know a solution to this. Hong Joo had told Jae Yoo not to get involved with anything happening in the hotel, but he had not been able to help himself when he saw his roommates in danger. Currently, he knows the solution to Yeo Hee’s condition because of something he overheard Moo Young say. The yacha is Moo Young’s creation, and when Hong Joo expressed her fear that it may harm her girls, he told her to give them some iris pistil in that case. Shin Joo remembers seeing some saffron in the hotel, and since it belongs to the Iris family, it could be used. Shin Joo, Mi Yeon, and Rang set out to retrieve that while fighting the zombies, and they get it, but there is still trouble since they run into the hypnotist’s assistant. Rang gets bitten by the zombies, but he has yet to turn into a yacha. They need to make the medicine in time to save him and Yeo Hee.

In another part of the town, Ryuhei is high on his victory about getting to marry Ginko. But when he drops her off someplace, the water snail bride sees him and recognizes him as a demon. She tells this to Ginko, who realizes that this must be the reason he killed her sister. But Ginko is not scared and is also extremely stubborn. After this revelation, she immediately tells her parents that she is willing to marry him.

What Happens In The Painting?

At the end of episode 9, we saw that Hong Joo and Moo Young had inhaled some of the poisonous fog released by a demon. His name was Ushiuchibo, a Japanese demon who operates through poison. The mountain gods are obviously unimpressed, but they need to fight him for the antidote. Unluckily for them, they don’t find it on him, but he ends up dead with a couple of strikes from Hong Joo. Since Moo Young and Hong Joo are weakened by the poison, Yeon sets off to find and chase one of the other demons, Yuki, who is quite smitten by him. He exchanges the golden ruler for the antidote and comes back to his friends. This is the part where he becomes the aforementioned “sly fox.” He bargains with his friends that if they want the antidote, they must help him fight off the demons. This had been Yeon’s plan all along, but he couldn’t have predicted how it would go. Regardless, he got what he wanted. Once he gives them the antidote, he sets off to find the demons, leaving Hong Joo and Moo Young behind as they are still a little weak from the aftereffects of the poison.

Who Is The Fifth Shinigami Mercenary?

Lee Yeon had done his homework, and he knew what the demons were capable of doing. But there were still some gaps in his information. He did not know what one of the demons did—the one whose name was Nyudo, as Lee Yeon discovered a little too late. Technically, the demon’s name is Unyudo, which translates to “body-switching.” Unyudo switches his body with Lee Yeon’s. Yeon is now in trouble because he injured Unyudo, and he is stuck with that wound, with his powers gone as well. The only silver lining is that Hong Joo stole the guardian stone from him, so the demons don’t have all the treasures with them. As Yeon tries to figure out his next course of action, Unyudo (in Yeon’s body) tries to lure Hong Joo and Moo Young to the demons’ lair. As for Yeon (stuck in Unyudo’s body), he meets Yuki and Oogama, and they refer to their boss. That is when Yeon remembers that there were five demons instead of four, and the last one of them must be in the hotel if he isn’t in the painting. So far, Yeon had been under the impression that the only danger Rang was facing were the zombies, but now that he knows that there is a Shinigami mercenary on the loose in the hotel, the urgency of the situation has grown manifold.

Tale of the Nine-Tailed 1938 Ep 10 back UP to HIGH rating as drama heads to its end

Kim-Bum-in-Tale-of-the-Nine-Tailed-1938-

Tale of the Nine-Tailed 1938, Episode 10 hit the airwaves in South Korea and via Amazon Prime Video worldwide last night with, as I predicted yesterday, a much higher rating than its Saturday evening show.

That rating, according to Nielsen Korea, was 6.62 percent nationwide, with a much higher 8.19 percent in Seoul.

Those ratings mean Tale of the Nine-Tailed 1938, Episode 10 ratings increased by 1.64 percent nationwide and by 2.04 percent in Seoul over its previous episode.

Something that has been quite consistent throughout the fantasy drama’s run, with the tvN fantasy drama’s Saturday show earning sometimes substantially lower ratings than its Sunday episode.

As the drama only has two more episodes to air, which will premiere next Saturday and Sunday evenings, it is also likely that rating will remain at its current level and possibly increase even further for its final two shows.

Fingers crossed on my end, as Tale of the Nine-Tailed 1938 has been one of this year’s K-drama gems throughout its entire run, and more people should see it.

 Preview episode 11

[Episode 11 preview] "Please Don't Die" Lee Dong-wook is about to lose everything he holds dear!

So in episode 11 they will going to fight Satori. I read that he is a mind-reading monster. I think Hong Joo is the most vulnerable in front of that power. She always says what is in her mind, she is very impulsive. If Lee yeon and Mu young will help Hong Joo to focus, to control her emotions/thoughts, they can defeat Satori.

Horror+humour+melodrama... 'Tale of the Nine Tailed 1938' looks to be a hot topic

192674_194193_932.jpg

(MHN Sports Reporter Jeong Seung-min) With only one week left until the end of 'The Tale of a Gumiho 1938', it is showing a high topic.

The tvN Saturday drama is a K-fantasy action drama about a gumiho who crash-lands in the chaotic era of 1938 and tries to return to the present day, and is a prequel to tvN's "Gumiho Dynasty," which aired in 2020.

"Gumiho 1938" started with 6.5 per cent ratings in its first episode and has been hovering between 5 and 7 per cent. It is also ranking high in the TV-OTT aggregated topicality even when viewership is not considered.

'Tale of the Nine Tailed' and 'Tale of the Nine Tailed 1938' are the same series, but they are slightly different. While the first season focuses on the love story between Lee Yeon and Nam Ji-A (Jo Bo-ah) with Imoogi (Italy) as the main villain, "Gumiho 1938" is less about love and more about the friendship between Lee Yeon, Ryu Hong-Joo (Kim So-Yeon), and Chun Moo-Young (Ryu Kyung-Soo) of "Sanshinz," as well as the confrontation with Japanese demons that threaten Korean demons during the Japanese occupation.

This doesn't mean that 'Tale of the Nine Tailed1938' abandons the melodrama genre. The film is a jam-packed mix of friendship, melody, humour and horror. What makes this season so different from its predecessors is that it has become a hot topic.

The majesty of the former Sanshin trio? "There's no such thing"

The main bodies of 'San Gods' Lee Yeon, Ryu Hong-ju, and Chun Moo-yeong, who appear in the play, are a nine-tailed fox, eagle owl, and Baekdu mountain tiger, respectively. They are obviously from the mountains, but they have long since abandoned the 'dignity of a leader' that can be seen in historical dramas.

In the first episode, before going back to modern times, Lee Yeon, who got on the train to get Manpasikjeok by running errands for Taluipa (Kim Jeong-nan), and Ryu Hong-joo, dressed up in all sorts of clothes to convey her love for him, were included.

When Ryu Hong-joo finally confronts Yi-yeon, she asks him to "live with me," calling her the perfect wedding gift he's been looking for, and when he refuses, she suddenly grabs a knife and starts a physical fight with him. Eventually, their love fight (?) turns a train full of people into a wreck.

And Yi-yeon, along with Goo Shin-joo (Hwang-hee), cheers for Lee Rang (Kim Bum) and Jang Yeo-hee (Woo Hyun-jin)'s love affair, which is suspected to be an actual ad-lib, and when they go to the cinema with Ryu Hong-joo and Chun Moo-young, the "Sanshinz" fight over sharing a piece of popcorn is hilarious.

The witty directing is also a laughing point. At the end of episode 2, when Goo Shin Joo, who crash-landed in 1938 and went through all sorts of hardships, finally faces Lee Yeon through a passing train, Sung Sik's "On the Street" is inserted as background music, adding a touch of affection and fun to the scene.

In episode 4, Lee Yeon and Lee Rang, who were taking care of the unidentified child by blowing soap bubbles, are visited by police officers from the Jongno Police Station, who demand that they give up the baby, and they beat them one by one to the tune of 'Doo Ri Soap Bubble Song'.

The horror elements of the film

'The Tale of a Nine Tailed Fox 1938' features a lot of ghosts as a fantasy, so it also includes a device that induces fear.

In episode 6, the Jangsanbeom hiding in Myoyeongak transforms into Gookhee (Kang Naeon) and lures Jukhyang (Joo Yerim) from under the floor and suddenly screams, or after playing in the corner, Jangsanbeom catches Seonwoo Eunho (Kim Yongji). and Ryu Hong-joo disappeared, and the events that took place caused a sense of fear. In addition, the man-eating ghost 'Yaksha' that appears in episodes 2 and 9 also provides tension comparable to that of zombie movies.

Melo, the man who didn't seem to have anyone to love

In 'The Tale of a Nine Tailed Fox 1938', Rang falls in love with Jang Yeo-hee, who works at a boutique for Bok Hye-ja (Kim Su-jin). In the previous work, 'The Tale of a Nine Tailed Fox', Rang showed mostly behaviors that seemed to be ignorant of the feeling of love, so I couldn't dare imagine his love affair.

However, in the 10th episode, Jang Yeo-hee, who is in crisis by the yakshas, was drawn, and in the preview for the 11th episode, Rang screamed, so attention is paid to how their ending will be drawn.

Japanese colonial period, Korean ghosts vs Japanese ghosts

Since the background of the play is 1938, during the Japanese colonial period, it is revealed that Japanese monsters kidnap Joseon ghosts and experiment on them to use them as weapons of war. As the indigenous deities of Joseon gradually lost their lives and disappeared, even the dressing-up faction, which had a principle of not intervening in human affairs, changed their minds, and Yiyeon vowed to wipe out the Japanese monsters before returning to the modern age.

And the scene of the martyrs including Seonwoo Eun-ho (Kim Yong-ji) working hard for the independence movement and the scene of Hyeon Ui-ong (Ahn Gil-gang) crying while sending an independence activist who lost his life to Samdocheon made me feel dejected. Now, with the end of 'The Tale of a Nine Tailed Fox 1938' coming soon, attention is focused on how the fate of 'Sanshinz', which will engage in an all-out war against Japanese monsters, and the love line between Lee Rang and Yeo-Hee Jang will end.

‘Is this a debut film?’ Woo Hyun-jin, the perfect emotional narrative in ‘The Tale of a Gumiho 1938’

news-p.v1.20230607.59b306bf0e4a4a6d96764

Woo Hyun-jin in the recently aired tvN Saturday and Sunday drama ‘The Tale of a Gumiho 1938’ breaks down into the role of a mermaid ‘Jang Yeo-hee’ and portrays an emotional narrative that goes back and forth between Romcom

and Melo.

Yeo-hee's warm eyes looking at the human world and Yeo-hee Jang's determination to become a singer, as well as her gorgeous stage costumes and beautiful swimming skills, brought a pure smile to the viewers.

In addition, the appearance of immersively expressing the colorful changes of the romance line between Lee Rang and Yeo-hee, from the laughter of learning love through writing, to the desperate embrace of Lee Rang (played by Kim Bum), who pushes herself away in front of confused emotions, is a debut film. It made me feel the unbelievable charm of Woo Hyun-jin's acting.

In this way, Woo Hyun-jin shows off her excellent character digestibility, ranging from her eccentric cute charm to desperateness, in her small screen debut, ‘The Tale of a Nine Tailed Fox 1938’, leading viewers to immerse themselves in emotions until the end.

Meanwhile, tvN's Saturday and Sunday drama 'The Tale of a Gumiho 1938' is broadcast every Saturday and Sunday at 9:20 pm.

Tale of the Nine Tailed 1938: Episodes 9-10

by DaebakGrits

With the end of our drama looming ahead of us, our story enters the (turbulent) calm before the storm. Our three mountain gods get pulled away to their own side adventure and must put aside their disagreements and work together to survive, but they’re practically on vacation compared to our remaining characters, who are left behind to fight off a hoard of gross and terrifying zombies.

EPISODES 9-10

In looking back at this week’s episodes, I’m surprised with how little the plot progressed. I mean, this drama has consistently demonstrated that it’s more eye candy than brain fuel (not that I’m complaining), so I really shouldn’t be shocked that Tale of the Nine Tailed 1938 is staying the course. And yet, I was definitely expecting more character development as we entered the final four episodes because the amount of baggage Yeon and Moo-young have left to unpack would cost an absolute fortune in checked luggage fees.

For half a second, I actually thought this drama might have them literally duke it out and then resolve their differences. You know, throw a couple of punches, expel a little testosterone, have a small heart-to-heart while they’re so tired and sweaty they have to listen to each other’s story in order to resolve their misunderstandings, and then — BOOM — bros again, amirite? Instead, their evenly matched round of fisticuffs only resulted in a temporary truce. Props to our drama for not taking the easy way out, but the encounter between Yeon and Moo-young also started a countdown clock. D-day approaches.

For Yeon, D-day is not only the day the portal to the future reopens, but also the impending battle against Kato and the Shinigami Mercenaries, who have been systematically wiping out Joseon’s indigenous gods. Yeon has unilaterally decided he’s going to take care of some Japanese demons while he’s still in 1938, and Taluipa is surprisingly going to let him do it! She’s — quite conveniently, I might add — taken on the mentality of, “Future Yeon is Future Talupia’s problem,” so while Yeon resides in the past, 1938 Talupia has decided to stick her head in the sand and let him do whatever the hell he wants (because she’s 100% Team Joseon).

At the same time, though, our other mountain gods have decided to use the impending battle as an opportunity for their own personal gain. Moo-young, of course, still wants to revive his totally sus dead brother, but now that Hong-joo is aware that Yeon is in possession of the crystal and golden ruler, she’s also keenly interested in obtaining them so she can leap into the future and get the hell out of her current time period. Can’t say that I fault her for this one. She’s a lady ahead of her time and living in a world that sucks not only for Joseon, but women as well.

Lee Dong-wook and Kim Bum in Tale of the Nine Tailed 1938: Episodes 9-10

The only people entirely on Yeon’s side are Shin-joo and Rang (and his gang), but Yeon would rather have Rang stay as far away from the battle as possible. Rang, Yeon confesses, is his only weakness in 1938, and as he hands Rang a pair of couple rings, he explains that he’d much rather see his brother marry his mermaid and live out a happily-ever-after. After all, a nine-tailed fox’s first love is his only love. (Oh, my heart!) But now that Rang has resolved his differences with Yeon, his loyalty to his brother is unbreakable, and his dedicated nine-tailed bottom is following his brother into battle.

Yeon realizes there’s no fighting Rang’s stubbornness, and so he concedes, looping Rang into his plan. In order to control as much of the situation as possible and set the stage for our final battle, he checks into the Bando Hotel — but not without first making it known to Hong-joo (and thus everyone) that he will be the hotel’s newest guest. Sure enough, all of our key players — minus Kato who is busy making sure his arranged marriage to Eun-ho happens — begin checking into their own rooms at the Bando Hotel one by one.

There’s an unspoken agreement among all the hotel’s guests that the battle won’t begin until sundown, giving everyone time to rest, plot, and scope out the competition. Or, in the case of Shin-joo and our other secondary characters, get hypnotized into doing silly things while our cast — and plot — bides their time until they can duke it out under the cover of darkness. Yeon’s plan is simple: cut the hotel’s power after sunset and somehow convince Moo-young and Hong-joo to set aside their personal differences and conflicting objectives to team up and defeat the Shinigami Mercenaries. Once they’ve taken out the Japanese mercenaries, he and his former friends can then fight over possession of the crystal and golden ruler.

Nothing ever goes according to plan, though, and when Yeon enters the Shinigami’s hotel room, he stumbles into the forest illusion one of the Shinigami magically cast over the room. Moo-young and Hong-joo, both wanting to corner Yeon and steal the magical artifacts, follow Yeon into the illusion and get trapped in the forest with him. On the bright side, their forced proximity aligns with Yeon’s objective of getting them to side with him against the bad guys, but convincing the other mountain gods to join hands is not as easy as it sounds. Predictably, Moo-young’s desire for vengeance outweighs the greater good of taking down the Japanese demons, and Hong-joo’s attempt to diffuse the situation is merely a cunning attempt to steal the crystal and ruler.

But, as Yeon had hoped, Moo-young and Hong-joo (mostly) set aside their personal agendas when the first Shinigami, USIUCHIBO (Jung Jae-won), appears. Usiuchibo looks like a mad scientist, and while he rocks a cool pair of shades, Yeon and his fellow mountain gods have a hard time taking him — and his chosen hairstyle — seriously. Unfortunately, both Moo-young and Hong-joo are affected by his poisonous gas (not a fart joke), and a weakened-but-still-super-strong Hong-joo is so frustrated with Usiuchibo that she beats him to death before obtaining the antidote to his deadly poison. (Doh!) One bad guy may have been eliminated, but now Moo-young and Hong-joo are pretty much useless. Their bodies begin to show more of the poison’s effects.

Yeon’s next Shinigami encounter is with YUKI (Kim Seung-hwa), a demon with the power of ice and a raging crush on Yeon. She’s not swayed by Yeon’s looks, though, so Yeon has to offer up the ruler in exchange for the antidote. He then uses the antidote to persuade Moo-young and Hong-joo to team up with him. They are initially suspicious of the supposed antidote that their opponents handed over to Yeon, so Yeon pops the pills first to prove they’re harmless, which seems rather dumb, considering he’s already been drugged once this season. When the antidote proves to be as advertised, Hong-joo eagerly takes it, but Moo-young is still a bit reluctant — because teaming up with his enemy totally delays his revenge plot.

Ep 9 & 10 Review

I have a question, Japanese demons interact amongst each other in Korean, They know Korean but Korean Demon / Gods dont know Japanese. Gods Demons need to be multilingual here, also its kind of annoying to see J-Demon talking in Korean, them talking in Japanese makes them more lethal/believable as someone worth a villain in front of the Mountain Gods.

I feel in both seasons it has been a consistent problem atleast for me , Lee Yeon Lee Rang are so good in whatever they do , they themselves acting as villain hero made other villains esp that teen kid imoogi fall flat on face in terms of impact. All others looked comical.

Now in this season they have 5 Good Actors who are so strong in understanding their characters and brilliant screen presence its so dang hard to take any Villain seriously. Its like a comic book strip where I know Hell Hath no Fury Lee Yeon and Minions will Win. This show doesn't craft a believable villain or the ultimate villain to Lee Yeon , the closest competitor was Lee Rang in S1 and a dang good one at it.

Here Taliupa is muttering blah blah..and I know nah Lee Yeon will take care. How hard was it to draft a good villain or take a better actor who looked believable? Like LDW is so charming you dont see the others impact in short lol.

Also the Zombie effect...all a plot to kill The mermaid and make our Poor Rang always be alone. Like WRITERS??? His brother is inside his head to search for his soulmate. His father was well as less said is good, his mother abandoned him, his puppy died, now the one girl he fell in love with that too a pure magical species is now a partial zombie...WHY WRITERS WHY Torture him so so much.....And how will kid Rang in 2022/23 will get his soulmate mermaid back..arghhh

I want Manchuria Druggie Lee Yeon back in scene, I hope 1938's actual Yeon gets to work with his 2 other musketeers Mu Young and Hong Joo. At this point MY/HJ are lost cause. Like MY just accept your brother may have been a demon and you really cant kill LY to save yourself no matter what. Also HJ's arc as a super tight protector was good, somehow in last 2 episodes it got lost in the jungle I felt.

Hope the fInale is great. I would still prefer this season over S1 though, much much more cohesive and enjoyable despite lack of believable villains lol.
