back to the tread,I finally catch on until episode 12 and waiting for episode 13 :) and it's soon 3am LOL

I like episode 11 specially the scene JJ was trying to ''seduce'' GW and in a funny way. And I love with GW was still be careful she will hurt on the table awaawaaa so sweet guy . Also the scene when JJ was playing with a knife LOL GW face was priceless

warmcozy

GW was already in love with JJ long time now, but he just realize he really falling for her on episode 11. Realize that he wasn't in love with Ji Won anymore but was ''in love'' because it's something normal or something regular for him.

I feel a bit cheating when the mom appear, I thought she would have more explication to explain to JJ. And about her step sister they didn't explain her character. I think the mom will appear later to explain JJ father relationship with GW mom. OMG, I was really thought GW and JJ have a same father before the mother explain they used to hang out the 4 together. I love JG and HS couple. They are so funny specially JG. This actor I didn't see him long time...my last serie with him was ''The Strange Housekeeper'' and I did like the serie. Sometime JG x HS couple are more funny to ship than JJ x GW. JJ make all so complicate but in funny way lol that the charm from Hong sister LOL .

I love when GW said to JJ ''Don't cook for anyone else but me.'' that was so cute:wub:.and this scene

warmcozy2

You're Happy...MEANT everything :)

in episode 12, it's seem we start to see a some problem appear like his father. Are his father going to destroy GW life? No, impossible, his father seem to be a ''good'' person and we still don't know the circumstances about HS husband dead. I hope someone can help GW because he seem to hide a lot inside himself. He will prefer suffer from all stress than to sharing his pain. Please JJ to be with him in the next episode, he will need you so much. Next episode, we will got some ''tears'' :tears:

BTW the mayor was so funny with all his family LOL specially his ''brothers'' and ''sister'' LOL

WOOKsister

NOT BAD LOLLLLLLLLL :)

@delfin ah ic, thank you. And @pandalover1 found about "salmon". Salmon has remarkabke "homing instinct" so they are able to locate their home or origin, and also have good survival skill. So thats why she described herself as salmon.

I know this has been explained, rynne_peace. But do you mind if I go a little bit further with this? :)

Third point, the carp, vampire and wolf.

Yes, JJ describes herself as a salmon, because a salmon is known to have excellent olfactory memory. It’s born in freshwater, but it swims out in the ocean and lives there, until it’s time for it to go back home to its freshwater birthplace and settle down there to reproduce.

An aside: Once on a trip to Alaska, I watched salmon swim upstream (means going AGAINST the current, which is difficult) and repeatedly try to jump up a waterfall. They all wanted to go back to their spawning grounds. Many did eventually end up getting back, but the salmon that died from exhaustion, floated at the bottom of the falls, and the bears were known to wait there when they’re hungry.  As the Japanese say, “The weak are meat, while the strong eat”.

Anyway, the salmon has a “homing” instinct, or an inner compass. JJ self-identifies as a salmon, because even when she’s drunk, she can find her way back home, without fail.

But GW then teases her and wonders, “Did I see a carp last night, then?”

According to dramabeans, a carp, in Korean slang, is “somebody lacking in the smarts department” meaning somebody who isn’t very bright or intelligent.  However, based on the way GW uses the word carp to tease JJ, it connotes something SLIGHTLY different. He isn’t really calling JJ a stupid or dumb person, but he was taunting her for being a forgetful and oblivious person. Because she’s forgets, she’s clueless and oblivious of where she needs to go, and what she needs to do next. She isn’t a salmon; she’s a fish with amnesia (lol. Amnesia makjang!)

That’s the reason he pesters her if she has already remembered details during her “drunken” episode, then calls her a “carp” when she answers no. He has already declared, "I gave you everything [the whole of himself, too]. You'll accept it, right?" but she can’t consent nor give an answer because she was intoxicated at the time, and can’t remember the details of the night correctly.

But apparently, the carp has another meaning in Korean culture. It’s also the symbol of fertility and self-reliance.
Here’s the link: http://www.lifeinkorea.com/culture/patterns/patterns.cfm?Subject=Animals

If you don’t want to open the link, here's the explanation.

>>A gate called Deungyong-mun was where a person who passed the civil service exam had the honor of facing the king. The legend of the gate very closely related to a carp: "Every spring, carps were swimming against the strong stream around the place named yongmun, and the one which was successful to go up against it turned into a dragon." Based on this context, people compared the scholar (who passed the exam and made something of himself against all difficulties) to a carp that was transformed into a dragon. Additionally, when a carp gives birth, it lays thousands of eggs, so people associate it with reproduction.

Given this cultural context, the carp isn’t any different from a salmon, and JJ resembles this version of the carp.  For starters, she works hard. In Episode 11, GW admits to respecting for working tirelessly at the restaurant even when she was “ill”.  She’s determined to succeed, like a carp swimming against the tide. It's an attractive quality for a guy like GW.

Secondly, there’s that link with the bungeoppang or the carp bread with the carp as a symbol of reproduction.  GW cooks the bungeoppang for JJ to atone for accidentally dumping the snack made by the Mayor’s mother.  He says the snack is a vampire carp, and he eats it like a blood-thirsty vampire with the red jelly oozing out of it like blood. He then apologizes for the earlier accident and admits to feeling inadequate since he’s unable to provide her with the big family which she so wants to be a part of.

I totally agree with @kilaalaa when she wrote:

Hahaha that was my favorite line from the scene too! I was thinking its okay if GW and JJ don't have a huge family. They can MAKE their own large family! The more kids the better! Wahahaha

They definitely can create their own family – be it a huge family with 10 kids or a small family with 2.3 kids. Therefore, instead of feeling sad because he doesn’t have a family to give her, I’m amused to see that our couple is eating a carp bread together… because carp is a symbol of FERTILITY.  Is this some kind of unconscious, wishful thinking on GW’s part? lol.

Moreover, the fact that it’s a VAMPIRE carp makes me wonder if there is some kind of risqué joke going on.   Honestly, I’ve been debating since Episode 11, whether I should enlighten you, ladies, about vampires. In the interest of “scholarship” (and not perversion, mind you), I think I should.  :)

You know, in literature, a vampire is a symbol of sex, too.  Especially during the Victorian Era, when it was taboo to write about sex in fiction, a vampire hero allowed the author to write a story with an erotic theme, without mentioning sex at all.  The vampire is normally portrayed as an older evil man lusting after the blood (tsk.tsk. I’m sure you know what blood I’m talking about here) of a virginal, young girl; he visits her at night in her bedroom, seduces her, and leaves a mark on her for life.

Now, that’s the literary context of a vampire.

In our kdrama, I suspect JJ is totally clueless about this meaning of a vampire. True, she's the one who introduces the imagery of vampires in Episode 11, and she describes herself as a vampire. However, when she says this, “What you just did to the vampire who gave up blood and laying in a coffin is pour a bag of blood into its coffin”,  she only means that GW provokes a person who’s been restraining herself, and trying to keep to herself.  She’s mad at GW because she sees herself as his long-suffering victim because of his thoughtlessness, and lack of concern for her feelings, and she warns him that she’s going to attack.  That’s the extent of her vampire analogy; it’s an innocent one.

On the other hand, I’m sure that GW knows the sexual/sexy/pervy connotation of a vampire, and he finds it funny even if JJ doesn’t.

He taps her shoulder, saying, "Vampire, calm down. I'll see you in the morning." When she reassures him that it's safe for him to sleep upstairs, he invades her space, and suggestively says, "Do you think I can just go upstairs and sleep right now?"

That’s why he teases her here, offering to be her victim, and he receives an exasperated “What the heck?!!” slap here from JJ.

credit: @pandalover1

credit: @jeonghyang

And he teases her again here, devouring the carp bread like a bloodthirsty vampire, and receives a “Huh?!” look.

You see, the typical reaction of a girl like JJ who’s been teased with anything remotely sexually suggestive, is to blush, or become flustered, or shy away. But JJ is more annoyed than embarrassed with him. And that's because our innocent JJ totally DOESN’T GET that GW is flirting with her with the vampire jokes.

But she finally understands that GW has the “hots” for her, when he sits down at the counter later that evening, and holds her hand to his heart, saying this: (translation by @angelflower)

GW: What I'm saying is, I'm not in that warm and cozy state as before, when I was just being nice to you. Right now, I'm really hot.

That’s the whole amusing thing with this kind of “carp” and “vampire” teasing between JJ and GW.

It IS absolutely Gunwoo’s fault, and he recognizes it. He says to PoongSan that he’s like a boy who cried “wolf”.  LITERALLY, however, in this episode, he’s the boy who cried "carp" and “vampire”.  lol. His past actions are compounded by his non-stop jokes and teasing, so much so that JJ finds it hard to believe him. Only when he stops joking around, and gives JJ the heart-to-hand talk does she take him seriously.

thank you again for the insight!!! @‌packmule3    at the scene where he offered her the carp bread, I was just thinking that GW would like to be eaten by JJ. that was the only thing in my head. now it makes more sense :D thank you!!!

BTW, the necklace issue hasn't been tackled yet. He can't leave before that necklace plot unfolds. Do you know if it's the original necklace with the original pendant? Or did he replace the pendant with another stone? Or maybe even a ring? lol.

@packmule3 , I believe it to be the same original one that GW won over the Mayor. it didn't look like there's any change to it :)

maybe after JJ accepts GW liking her in return then they will go straight to get that. or vice versa, JJ will go to the necklace first then go to GW :)

Okay, let me play devil's advocate here and say he DID something new to the necklace. Like to make bets?  kekeke.

BTW, in life, I'm not considered a big gambler or risk-taker. But when I'm at the casino, I'm totally a different gal. I always end up losing money at the poker table, because I like to risk it all.  :(

@packmule3 thank you for the very enlightening post. :D

Educational for innocent icemaid.

Eyyyyy... were you one of the innocent ice maidens asking for a hot, sizzling kiss to be scripted for our couple? pwahahahaha.

Really. There are reasons why people thought he was swoon-worthy in this episode. It's because they can feel the "vibes" or the tension.

When they were in the wine cellar, for instance. Remember how she suddenly had to avert her eyes? She was flustered, right? She couldn't explain what was going on, but she felt it.

When a guy whom you have a crush on, talks about being a vampire, and letting you "bite him", or vice versa, you're supposed to feel "tingly" or embarrassed or giggly or shocked or titillated or thrilled or whatever, IF you understand the sexual innuendo. But if you don't get the sexual innuendo because your mind is totally as white as paper, then you'll look at him like he's daft or something.

@packmule3 stop itttt I am dying at you post and the gif ahahahaha. Before you mention it, I was wondering what kind of random act did GW just do by taking the necklace away after discovering it from the conch shell. And then later to give it back to her as another freebie. I was like ??? And how will JJ connect the night at Pojangmacha's happening / promise scene if she sees the necklace? It was a very weak connection to me and seems to be so random and it doesn't even make sense.

But if he really did something new to the necklace, then only it makes more sense! xD You made me rewatch the scene and try to detect any changes but I couldn't see it clearly because show blinded me by making it shines (maybe they're stressing on it through it, lol)

pEyO7KL.jpgokay, now I'm hoping for this to be real. tho I also understand the risk but I'm willing to go all in, too. xD

See that, @day_dreamer? You're thinking like a Hong sister. :)  It doesn't make sense for him to take the necklace in the first place, then return it to her unchanged. He makes a big fuss about it being a freebie, too. She already knows it ISN'T a freebie, because he has said so when he gave it to her after the wrestling matchmatch. He said it cost him to win it for her.

So why is he negating himself and saying it's free?  That's a mental lapse on the scriptwriter's part.

Then, for the director to deliberately put computer graphics/special effects and make the pendant sparkle? And obscure the other details so we can't see it clearly? If they don't put this necklace to good use as props in the drama,  they wasted a good opportunity there. But we'll wait and see..

I bet the necklace will be UNCHANGED.

GW put on the shelf, just to show her that he knows what she said of stopping foolish in front of him is lies.

She store the necklace in the shell but GW find it out. If he didn't close to her place like this, how can they he find it out.

I bet it'll be UNCHANGED. AGAIN.

There is just one unreasonable thing regarding the necklace is that GW didn't buy it by himself. The officers bought it but he won. Aigoo...

OMG the BTS above!!!

I don't have time to translate everything cause I'm at work right now, but after they're done with the scene, Kang Sora says,"If he would just come out and say 'Lets date', everything would be fine!". Director says, "If we do that, we won't have enough material to fill 4 episodes." Kang Sora then replies, "All the netizen comments will be 'Just say lets date!'".

Hahaha even Kang Sora supports JJ and GW getting together quickly... Hehehe. Gotta admit that its kinda frustrating this speed...
