Thank you all for sharing your take on Chang-man. I guess I was imposing my own views a bit on his situation, which made it difficult for me to relate to. I definitely know a few people like Chang-man who like to avoid conflict.

When Secret Love Affair was airing, I read quite a few comments about people not being able to bring themselves to watch it because of the subject matter (extramarital affair). I wonder if those same people would have issues watching Yoo-na's Street, or playing video games like Grand Theft Auto. I think one can still find enjoyment in things one does not agree with or condone. Even though Uncle Gye and Mi-sun are quite terrible people, they are among my favourite characters on the show. I especially like the interactions between Uncle Gye and Chang-man, since Uncle Gye keeps taking while Chang-man can't help it but to give.

Yoo-na's Street is said to be a remake of The Moon of Seoul from 1994. From what little I've read, the two stories don't seem to be all that similar. By any chance, has anyone seen it? If so, how do they compare?

Ep 10 subs took a little bit longer, but is out at DSS...

The rugby line turned out to be a bit less interesting than the original version posted above. Damn.

The temple martial arts versus dog-bite-ear was a really cool scene :)

The roommates find yet another way to figure out who is worse.  Using the KBS' "Gayo Top-10 hits" kind of a list... That too from the scriptures.  Hmmm....

Boss' speech to the colatec regulars was a riot too.  Chang Man with impeccable timing to intervene.

Oh, we also get "I'm gonna live forever".  Who knew that the drama kids could dance.  Pretty well, that too.  It was nice to see the drama making our girl as only one of the dancers and not the lead.  Again, keeping it all rather real.

And I am a real nice guy who never had a dog.  Not that I hate them.  But never had one, mainly because I never thought I had the patience to look after one...

I watched episode 10 and I am waiting for the next episodes to watch. First I want to thank everyone at DarkSmurfSub for translating this show for us.

I love Yoona`s Street so far and I think the writer will continue to tell his/ her story till the end without pressure. ( I read that the ratings are good for this show).  Hope he/she has material for 50 episodes.
What I love the most is that this show has an ensemble cast. Yes, we have two protagonists but I can live without useless second leads if the show will give me good supporting characters. Maybe because it`s 50 episodes it helps.  When I was thinking why they show so much the cheating husband, I found out that he is the owner of the club building. :D   And knowing what Boss Han did to him...  :))

As somebody said earlier, I don`t dislike any of these characters either. Not even Uncle Gye or Min Sun. Right now, I think both of them are the most pitiful characters in this show. As a viewer I like to see interesting characters. Who is the worst? I don`t care but I like the discussion about it. With very few exceptions, I don`t want ever to meet persons like our characters. It is hard to chose my favorite character. I think it is Chang- man  for what he represents. He is the little hope for all those people, who are living in the multifamily house, the voice of reason. The majority of them are so unhappy, depressed,  they struggle to live day by day, they feel that their whole life is a failure. I was not surprised to find out that a former tenant committed suicide. This average man, with no money but with a great heart, a man who don`t show exceptional skills but who will surprise you all the time, a man who avoids conflict but who resolve them, a naive man who wants to see the good in people but who knows how to say no when things are in conflict with his believes,  is wonderful.  I want to know more about him. Trying to ”fix” YooNa is not easy but her ”transformation” is up to her. It is interesting to see her journey to a better woman, to a better life.

The other character that I enjoy to watch is Boss Han. He makes me laugh so much. Maybe because I love the actor. I have seen Lee Moon Shik in many dramas playing good guy, bad guy, reformed bad guy. The scene in episode 10 was hilarious. He addressed his deepest gratitude to people who were cheated with the fake pills incident and he took responsibility for the lack of communication as Chang- man suggested and then he couldn`t help not to show his true self. He had to tell his philosophy, it takes two to tango ( he likes to give speeches not only Old Man Jang :D )  and then showing his avarice in front of customers. The ribs are big they should have half.    :))  He is incorrigible.

I saw the preview of episode 11. I think we all guessed who informed the Police. I can`t wait to watch what happens next.

A dog lover?  I actually hated when i saw him stealing dogs from their real owners who were good to them.  Then he sells those dogs.  Thats one of the lowest things you can do stealing man's best friend for your gain.   He is pathetic loser but doesnt mean i cant dislike him for that.  I respect Mi Seon, other lowlifes more than him.   Stealing innocent dogs is horrible to me.
He might become better later but i wont make excuses for him and feel bad for him that no ones likes him.   Even horrible friend like Mi Seon have redeeming qualities like when she boughts gifts for old man gangster, Chang Man.

For some reason I feel someone has to stick up for the resident "dog lover" so here goes: at least he's not going around taking other people's money, trying to stab people (small spoiler right there) or even terrorising unsuspecting small time gangsters (it was funny but still kinda wrong). Yes I know it's pretty weak but I can't really hate any character, I just take them for what they are with all their qualities and defects because as I see it this is what makes this series great: we have wall to wall "bad guys" but they are honest bad guys who make no excuses for what they are and what they do and a discussion about what who's more of a bad person (as in stealing people's property vs destroying another woman's marriage without a hint of regret vs physically hurting other people ... you get my point) is a long and heavy one, maybe too heavy for soompi. Anyway, I think my point is we can hate reality the characters depict but the characters themselves and the way they fit in the story should be enjoyed because they are perfectly imperfect :D.

P.S. I hope no dog lovers put me on their blacklist after this especially since this is my second strike in this area, the first one being in the INR3 thread a while back when I suggested the cutest Husky ever could end up as companion for one really despicable character :))

By the way, do we know what happened to the puppy that we think he stole?  Did he sell it?  I don't remember subbing any lines on what happened to the puppy.  I think he told Axe that he would let the puppy sleep, feed it and take it to the animal shelter.  May be he did?  I don't think it has come up, to the point where I am subbing now - somewhere in E11.

Also, even his Viagra sales were really for the dogs.  He was shown in an earlier episode to be worrying for some $50 or 60 to buy dog food.  He asked Yu Na or Booking ajumma for the money, didn't get it, and was shown later to sit around mumbling "$50, $50" with some bad-stuff-to-happen background music...  I was puzzled why the drama showed that scene out of the blue - but it made sense later as a reason for why he was doing "business". I think that is what drove him to Viagra sales.

The drama keeps dropping hints on some stuff coming up between Mi Seon and Uncle Gye, but what that is, is unclear to me. Of course, there can be no way in hell that she would get interested in him.  But, knowing by now, that everything that the drama shows are hints for some unexpected stuff or other that comes later, I am curious about what is to come that involves those two polar opposite characters.

If you haven't noticed, his name sounds like "Dog Pal" too, as Gye sounds just like "gae", which is dog in Korean.  May be it sounds like "dog's arm" to a Korean, as Pal is "arm".  Anyway, he does have a name that fits his dog-centric life.

^^^ A software bug at DSS caused E11 video to go away for a day at DSS; so we had to do the subbing work with a downloaded raw video, which is really quite slow to do...  Anyway, it was all fixed just now, so we are back on the E11 and E12 work.

By the way, I have the same irrational thoughts about the dog of an uncle as you :) ... Hate the fellow.  Such a fine acting job by the dude though, to make everybody hate him.  So are all the stuff the writer has made him say and do.  Nothing that terrible, and even many cute things too (like him bathing the dogs), but it's all annoying as hell!  But Chang Man finds a way to get even the annoying guy confused about how to be properly annoying to him, as we will see.  Classic.

Ep 11 was another impressive one and as usual i enjoyed seeing Chang Man getting closer to Yu Na's world.  The preview for next ep looks very promising about their relationship.
@jayakris Thanks for the good work with the subs.

Just finished the QC of E11 at DSS.  Just informing those of you who jumped the gun and viewed with the subs a day earlier :) .. Wait till we finish the QC if you can - because many details would be missing in the first translations, some of the lines would flash by (timing issues), and some passages may be confusing due to lack of flow etc...  But can't blame you if you are impatient, as the drama is so much fun.

Half way through episode 12 now.  We cant seem to catch up much with the broadcast.  We started after some 5 episodes were out, and we are still some 3-4 episodes behind.

The highlight of the E11 episode was our dog ajussi relieving himself at night and reciting the Cho Yong Pil classic, Leopard of Kilimanjaro.

I don`t know why I stalk this thread instead of watching kdramas.

It was a insignificant old scene but drew to my attention.

Sweet Potato?! No No No. This nickname is taken. This gangster is really funny. He came with a nickname from his childhood trying to scare people? His hyeongnim agrees with me.

 I`m out of here. :)
