Whew! I am so pleased I missed coming in here until the spoiler tags were up. It's a real tribute to this Drama that I have absolutely zero interest in clicking on the spoilers. In most Dramas, I'd read the spoilers to see if it was worthwhile staying with the Drama, but that's totally not an issue with this one. So thank you for putting them in spoilers, and I hope everyone will continue to do likewise from here on out.

I recently discovered this show. What a treat. Well written, solid cast. I've only watched up to Ep 11, but so far, there hasn't been any WTF moments.

Oddly enough, I've seen more trot songs in this drama than the unbelievably horrible train wreck that is Trot Lovers. Shame on you KBS.  ( Poor Eun-ji !)

Welcome @2manytears and @gnaveyar!

Spoiler tags are much appreciated :D

Couldn't resist, and just finished watching this week's episodes. I'm not used to this 50 episode format, and it's killing me. I don't know how I'll hold up until November.

Episode 20-21

Just as I was wondering about what happened to President Jeong, he pops up again :)

I was also thinking about the age difference between painter and booking lady (and how they don't seem to have children, neither do YS and squad-leader) and they bring up the age gap! It's like they can read my mind!

I think it's clear now that MG is only interested in MS's money, but in the back of my mind, I'm still holding onto a shred of hope that there will be a good outcome for them. I guess I'm just as delusional as MS.

Loved how HJ asked YN if she was sincere about her looking like SNSD's Yoona, and the deadpan response.

I'll need to wait for the English subs to better understand what CM was thinking in beating up MG. It seems very out of character, and his crying underlines the inner conflict. Seems like YN's importance to him is so great, it is able to shake his moral compass... I don't like that.

The one whom I actually hate is that painter fellow.  Such a holier-than-thou posterior orifice.  Ep 15 brings out a bit more of his self-centered style. He talks a lot of crap, about knowing painting from temple (and lies to his wife about knowing martial arts, while telling Chang Man that he didn't learn it).  he talks about using straight strokes even in painting.  Such an upright fellow.  But he found a way to put it to his wife that she should go do hard labor.  Then sends her emails on living a straight life and not being like Gye Pal. If he has any sense of self-esteem, he should be out there finding some other work than painting if he has no painting to do, rather than cry about it and send her to detention labor.  he talks a big game about wanting to buy expensive drinks for Chang Man, but once he hears $70, he tells him "you decide" (and Chang Man buys soju of course).  When he vengefully goes after Gye Pal, about the rooftop room (you will see the details in E15 if you haven't), it shows his colors even more. The guy shows no sympathy at all to Gye Pal, whose real fault is only that he is in idiot - even in the Viagra incident, which itself was done for him to make money to feed the dogs (and I don't think he kept that puppy we thought he stole).

Gye Pal is actually not a bad guy, and Chang Man realizes it. Many of you here are not with Chang Man and me on that :) ... But that Painter dude... Man, he is some loathsome character.

I have a feeling, seeing the extreme love acts the drama shows between the painter and his wife, that one or the other will do something to show that their show of romance was a bit fake. We will see, I guess.

Eighteen was an interesting episode for me. Nothing particularly noteworthy happened, apart from the handshake on the bus, but lots of background was filled in, and Boss man's disconnect from reality was ever more starkly delineated. It's clear that he genuinely sees himself as the misunderstood victim in everything, which is almost funny now.
The previews for 19 though reinforced my worries for Yoona's future. This is a 50 episode Drama, but I really don't want the last 25 to be CM visiting in either prison, hospital, or the prison hospital.

Love this show, currently have seen  Ep 12, not worried about spoilers.  I have a question and apologize if it's already been shown or discussed earlier.
The option to work off the fine. Can anyone shed more light on how that works? Typically what kind of work do they have the people do? Is it like a chain gang? Cool Hand Luke road crew comes to mind. Man-Bok kept talking it up like it builds character and his wife, Madame Hong (as per Asian Wiki), was obviously irritated with Man-Bok for doing so . Kye-Pal  might be  a lot of things but he's still her brother and deep down she cares for him.

My wife & I couldn't believe that the Painter Guy , (Chil-Bok),  suggested that his wife go work off the fine. Not a fan of Chil-Bok at all. His wife seems like a nice lady,  a bit naive, not bad looking. When she was practicing the dance moves in their apartment, all he could do was talk s*** . If it is indeed "hard labor" , how could any man willingly send his wife off to a labor camp? Not advocating that she cheat but she should scout around  for a better mate.

I just watched episode 18. I liked it, but I knew that I would like it.  :D It feels as life is passing normally for our residents, nothing special, less or bigger worries, loneliness or small gestures of friendship, despair or little hope. Not much happened in this episode but for some of the characters nothing good is looming. I pointed at you, Yoona. I am worried for Yoona, too. I don`t think she will go to prison ( at least not now) but she will face bigger and meaner transgressors, so it will be worse. Watching her in this episode ( testing that dealer, teaching Yun Ji, dividing rewards) I find it so sad that she doesn`t want to turn a new leaf in her life. She is smart, has good instincts, she could succeed in life doing a legit job but she doesn`t a big motivation yet. She did not hit the rock bottom yet. Troubles, troubles ahead.

In this episode it`d Old Man Jang`s turn to express his worries. We saw in the first episodes that he is struggle with the old age; he feels useless, his body weakens and now, he said that his biggest fear is to die alone and nobody will know/care. Oh, I love how Chang Man is ”taking care” of everybody and  doing so, they start to care for themselves a little and show good feelings for others too.

Man Bok the misunderstood man? Yeah, he always thought about himself this way. :D  I think he has a heart but, as usual, his self-centered personality is showing the worst of him. He has a quick temper,  a lots of pride and he is only thinking about himself, his needs. He never blames himself for anything. When he is pushing away others needs and seeking just the people who benefits him, of course he will alienate people around him. He amuses me with his ”poor rich girl complex”.  I liked how Chang Man has been treated him so far. The man his naturally gifted to understand the human nature.

I am very interested in Chang man back-story. I want to know more about him. He lost his parents at a young age and he was lucky to have an uncle to take care of him. He had good role models because for him the ”conscience is more important than anything”.  He worked on cars at his uncle workshop, he went to school, it seems to have found a new family. He got a few slaps (for the first time in his life) and he runs away from home? He was young, his idealistic nature couldn`t deal  with that unfairness but why such a drastic measure? Seeing how much he had matured now, he takes people the way they are, trying to help them to change I wonder, why he never gave his uncle a second chance, to let him regret his gesture, his error? He never went back. It is interesting how he will react when people that he cares about start to disappoint him. What will he do? I bet trying to help Yoona will take him through ”wringers”. He will go to Hell to bring her back?  It will be very interesting what will happen when Uncle Gye will deviate from the right path. He will pay the fine, I know that Uncle Gye wants to change but it will not be that easy. Bad habits are hard to chance but not impossible.

I recognized the song Yun Ji sang at the Karaoke lounge. A version of that song was the generic of TV show Win Win.

@gnaveyar
Thanks for the links, i have been thinking some of the songs in the series would be fine to listen to.   Hope to find them as audio files in places like 4shared.
Those Days song in the links was awesome to hear in the drama and as powerful in that link. Who is the singer in the link ?  Is the original singer who died?   Such an emotionally strong song that moves me so easily.

Thanks for the link with Kim Kwang Seok`s interpretation of the song Those Days. I search for information about KKS and it is so sad that he died at such a young age. So many young artists committed suicide in South Korea. I listened to a couple of songs of KKS and I understand why he was so loved. His songs touch the heart of the audience. Many of the songs are full of sadness and thought. ”Days depart like smoke from a cigarette”, ”life is wandered on the river like a floating weed”, ”too painful love is not love”... Oh, I need a happy song now.

Chang Man sang  two songs. When we`ll see Yoona singing too? :)

What is BGM? Backgrounds music? I think all the OSTs will be release at the end of the drama, if we are lucky.  My favorite song is the first OST, With Just Love.  I heard the word ”chingu/ friend” a lot there.

Lyrics, translated by Pop!gasa

On lonely days where I can’t be comforted by just love
I call out that friend
Much older than me
That friend has gone through all kinds of troubles

Drink a glass to soothe my sad heart
Drink another to sooth my longing heart

On lonely days where I can’t be comforted by just tears
I call out that friend

Pain and sadness
With vague feelings remaining
I hope it all goes down like this drink

One more day, one more day
I hold it in as I live my life
This too shall pass

On lonely days where I can’t be comforted by just love
I call out that friend
Much older than me
That friend has gone through all kinds of troubles

Drink a glass to soothe my sad heart
Drink another to sooth my longing heart

On lonely days where I can’t be comforted by just tears
I call out that friend.

Yes, BGM is Background Music. All the cable Dramas I'm watching have really interesting and well-thought choices of music, from various genres and languages, and I'd love to get a listing of them if possible
