Kim Rae-won says melodramas are a new genre for him

Having mainly played many carefree and cheerful characters in the past, Kim Rae-won says that a melodrama like SBS' upcoming series "A Thousand Days Promise" is a new genre for him.

Kim made the remark to reporters on Tuesday while talking about playing Park Ji-hyung, the male lead in the upcoming show, who is willing to lay everything on the line for the woman he loves.

"Authentic melodramas are a new genre for me because I have played many carefree and cheerful characters in my previous works," Kim explained.

Kim, who is making his comeback to the small screen after completing his mandatory two-year military service, rose to stardom in the country and throughout Asia for his roles in romantic comedies "My Love Patzzi" (MBC, 2002) and "Rooftop Room Cat" (MBC, 2003) as well as playing a chef in SBS' "Gourmet" in 2009.

He added, "I had to control my emotions and try not to show too much which was difficult since I had to control even my slightest movements and actions."

"That is why I read the script before we began shooting, in order to become more like Park, and scenarist Kim Soo-hyun had said that I shouldn’t take my eyes off of Soo-ae even when we are not acting which I thought was really meaningful and interesting.”

In "Thousand Days Promise," Park is an architect who will do anything for the woman he loves named Lee Seo-yeon (played by Soo-ae) who gradually loses her memory.

The series, also starring actors Lee Sang-woo, Park Yu-hwan and actress Jung Yu-mi, will run in the Monday and Tuesday primetime slot starting October 17.

Always nice to see Soo Ae smiles and from the photos she looked very happy. Rae Won looked tired. How cute was it when she Kim was leading her not the other way around...haha.

So are we into an as mature adult drama with freedom of emotion? ... Can Soo Ae make it convincingly?

How can Jihyung is a noble and pure man? when it seems he has a fiancee and a lover at the same time?

Already I'm torn between the two male leads!

So far from the photos, I like Soo Ae's casual clothes at home much better than her business like clothes, the business ones look too loose, she's too skinny.

Soo Ae "Kim Rae-won's body is admirable"

Soo Ae was impressed with Kim Rae-won's body.

The SBS TV program "TV News At Night" met with Soo Ae, Kim Rae-won and Lee Sang-woo from writer Kim Su-hyun's first melodrama in four years, "A Thousand ' Promise".

With the words 'body fit' during the interview, Kim Rae-won said, "I didn't become fit I just lost 15 kilos".

Soo Ae, who had a bed scene with Kim Rae-won, hesitated and said, "He's only saying that because it's obvious if he lies. If you see the drama you will be impressed".

Meanwhile, Kim Rae-won spoke about being cast for the drama by Kim Su-hyun while doing public service and how he felt then.

배우 김래원이 10월 12일 방송된 SBS '한밤의 TV연예'에서 공익근무 소집 해제 후 몸무게 감량 사실을 밝혔다.

이날 방송에서는 김수현 작가가 4년 만에 멜로로 돌아와 화제가 된 드라마 SBS '천일의 약속' 세 주인공 수애 이상우 김래원의 인터뷰가 전해졌다.

김래원은 '몸짱 탄생'이란 단어에 대해 "몸짱이 된 건 아니고 두 달 만에 남산을 오르며 살을 15kg 정도 감량했다"고 다이어트 사실을 털어놨다. 수애는 김래원의 몸매에 대해 "방송으로 보면 알겠지만 감탄할 정도"라고 밝혀 눈길을 끌었다.

Looks like there's a lot of screaming. Frustration, desperation, fear, anger, passion. Kim Rae Won's character seems to be the calmest, or is he too dazed by his lover's news for any reactions? Anyways, in a sea of screeching notes, he's like a low bass that holds the tempo.

Oh my this fall my days are sure doomed. But I can't wait to watch this!

Lee Mi Sook omg so gorgeous, and fierce. Her words cut like knife, although I have no idea what she talks about.

Soo Ae with that playfulness in her twinkling eyes, what a tease!

For a moment I thought I saw Yoochun's shoulders lol Then I recognized that's his brother's lol So cute!

I also saw City Hunter's daddy's sidekick. Here he's playing lovey dovey, awkward and cute. heehee

I'm trying not to have my hopes too high. Just patiently waiting for the drama. What I love from the trailer is its mature vibe, but still refreshing nonetheless.

aw... love how you described about the characters you felt from watching the trailers ... same sentiments here ...

Theres a good display of different emotions, from calm to extremes ... what a nice contrast & indeed melodramatic ~~

In an article, RaeWon described his role Ji Hyeong is a "slightly stand-offish architect... is capable of loving one woman “completely and purely.... who refuses to let anything dampen his love for Seo Yeon"

& he added, "I had to control my emotions and try not to show too much which was difficult since I had to control even my slightest movements and actions."

yeah... Lee Mi Sook (plays Jung Yumi's mom) is impressive ... I'm surprised though that theres not many shots of the other veteran actress Kim Hae Sook (plays RaeWon's mom) in those trailers ... I'm really hoping there'll be many amazing fireworks/interactions between these 2 great veterans ....

anyway ... very excited for this melodramatic story to unveil... 4 more days to wait ~~~
