Hyun Bin’s last project before entering the army: Secret Garden

Seoul, Korea – Actor Hyun Bin (28) is showing a renewed passion for Secret Garden, SBS’s new weekend series he is starring in before entering the army next March.

The production company for the series says, “Because this is Hyun Bin’s final project before going to the army, he seems more passionate about it. He is focusing his energy on integrating himself with the character Joo Won, which he plays in the series.”

Secret Garden, a fantasy comedy, tells the story of Joo Won (Hyun Bin) and Lime (Ha Ji Won), who constantly fight without knowing how they really feel about each other and wind up switching bodies.

Expectations for the series are great because it is another partnership between writer Kim Eun Sook and director Shin Woo Chul, who together made Lady of Paris, Lady of Prague, City Hall, and On Air.

Secret Garden is set to air beginning on the 13th as the successor to Life is Beautiful.

After Jang Hyuk withdrew from ‘Secret Garden’, Hyun Bin has been set to play the part. The drama is scheduled to premiere on November 13th following SBS ‘Life Is Beautiful’.

‘Secret Garden’ is a unique romantic drama about quarrelsome man and woman whose souls get switched. It is a story of an unfriendly millionaire owner of a department store Ju-won (Hyun Bin) and a stunt woman Ra-im (Ha Ji-won), who dreams to be an action director, struggling to protect each other’s body and finding their egos on their journey.

The drama is drawing great attention as the great team, Director Shin Woo-cheol and Scriptwriter Kim Eun-sook of various melodramas ‘Lovers in Paris’, ‘Lovers in Prague’, ‘On Air’ and ‘City Hall’, is working together with the top stars Hyun Bin and Ha Ji-won.

‘Action Queen’ Ha Ji-won is coming back.

Hwa & Dam Pictures, the production company of SBS drama ‘Secret Garden’, unveiled a photo of Ha Ji-won, who turned into a charismatic warrior.

‘Secret Garden’ is a fantasy romance about quarrelsome couple, Ju-won (Hyun Bin) and Ra-im (Ha Ji-won), whose souls get switched.

In the drama, Ha Ji-won, who presented skillful swordplay in MBC drama ‘Female Detective Damo’ is expected to show action scenes once again as she plays Ra-im, a stunt woman dreaming to be a female action director.

A concerned person explained, “The photo shows a shooting scene of a drama within the drama. Thrilling action scenes, which will make this fantasy romance even more spectacle, are waiting.”

‘Secret Garden’ will premiere on November 13th following ‘Life Is Beautiful.’

Scenarist Kim Eun-sook is back, the writer of romantic series about couples in love ("Lovers in Paris," "Lovers in Prague" and "Lovers") and dramas about professionals ("On Air," "City Hall"). Here, the word 'back' contains two meanings. That she is back with an SBS drama titled "Secret Garden" and that she has gone back to telling a story about lovers. This may have some asking whether she is going back to her old ways but that is not true. The story of a blunt rich man falling in love with an ordinary woman who has a strong ability to maintain her livelihood may seem similar to "Loves in Paris" at a glance. But by adding the setup that the main male and female characters' souls are switched, "Secret Garden" strays away from ending up being another Cinderella story and instead becomes a comic fantasy drama. "Secret Garden" is like new seeds sown on familiar grounds.

The strongest weapon "Secret Garden" holds is how its characters are switched, to the extent that both main cast Hyun Bin and Ha Ji-won said, "The most tough yet attractive element is that our souls switch." The blunt and arrogant department store owner Kim Ju-won (Hyun Bin) becomes a pathetic man and stuntwoman Gil La-im (Ha Ji-won) who has gotten used to saying sorry all the time, shakes her finger at Hallyu star Oscar (Yoon Sang-hyun) without an ounce of hesitation, the man she had idolized for so long. And the absurd yet detailed setups such as in how Ju-won will scream like a girl and crouch down, or say, "I just really wanted to tell you this is a really expensive brand" while turning his body around and pulling out the tag of his sweatsuit, as well as the La-im increasingly acting like a man, is visual proof of writer Kim Eun-sook's words that she "will show imaginary scenes that cannot break completely free from people's imagination in a more fun way." To top this off, the lines the actors say in the drama are tossed back and forth at such great speed to add to the cheerfulness of the drama.

The viewer will be able to tell that Kim's recent drama, SBS' "City Hall" which talked about politics with the city hall set as the background, is noticeably different in terms of both genre and characteristic to "Secret Garden" which she said, "I intentionally wrote to be fun." And it is the result of how after writing six dramas till now, she "thought on whether to write a drama that helps the world or one that will see good ratings." She decided, "I let go of the depth I showed in 'City Hall' and my greed as well and made a drama which is easy for the entire family to watch on the weekends." We do not know as of yet whether this will be retrogression or progression. It will depend entirely on how well the character' lines are fused into the plot of 'switched souls.' Her being unforthcoming even about how Ju-won and La-im meet, and instead explaining that she may provide spoilers to the first two episodes of the show, proves that "Secret Garden" will contain many elements of fantasy from its very start. Will writer Kim be able to achieve her hope of reclaiming her glory from her "Lover of Paris" days? The show premieres at 9:50 p.m. on November 13.

‘Secret Garden’s Ha Ji Won transforms from tomboy to mature lady

Seoul, Korea – Ha Ji Won of SBS’s new weekend series Secret Garden is now revving up her “transformation horsepower.”

Ha Ji Won is set to showcase her charm through an eight-layered transformation from tomboy to loveable mature lady with her portrayal of Gil Lime, a stuntwoman who dreams of becoming stunt director, in the new SBS weekend series Secret Garden, set to begin airing on the 13th.

Ha’s character, Gil Lime, is a charismatic stuntwoman who does not even wince when injured doing an action stunt. However, Gil Lime also has a very feminine side to her, which shows in her devotion to Oscar (Yun Sang Hyun), even to the point that she buys the same brand of socks he does.

In the still cuts released on the 9th, Ha shows her ability to transform. She appears in one picture with short hair and wearing sweatpants, in another with jeans and a shirt, and in yet another as a lady with long straight hair and dressed in a formal outfit. Ha at times can also appear as a temptress with chic makeup and at other times with the image of an academic such as a lady professor, showing a variety of transformations we haven’t seen from her in the past.

Ha says: “Gil Lime is a very passionate woman who loves her unusual job of being a stuntwoman. She is a happy, lovely woman who takes pride in her work and has a lot of dreams. She’s honest and strong, without showing her charms or trying to be beautiful. I think this is what makes her more charming. I do talk to and follow the actions of the stuntwomen during filming. I want to be able to perfectly portray Lime’s life as a stuntwoman, a rare job. With every new project, I get to meet new characters. While there is pressure from anticipation, I will try my best to play a character that people will want to see again.”

The production company Hwa and Dam pictures remarked, “Ha Ji Won is showing amazing concentration playing Gil Lime.  Look for Ha Ji Won’s new image in the romantic fantasy Secret Garden, which is set to open a new chapter on the genre.”

Secret Garden, starring Ha Ji Won, Hyun Bin, Yun Sang Hyun, Lee Phillip and Kim Sarang, will begin airing on the 13th at 9:50 p.m. on SBS.

‘Secret Garden’s Lee Phillip sheds cold, urban look for ‘wilder’ look..much anticipation

Seoul, Korea – Actor Lee Philip has shed his cold, urban look to change into a wilder “breezy hunk.”

In SBS’s new weekend series Secret Garden, set to begin airing on the 13th, Lee portrays Lim Jong Soo, a skilled English-speaking director of an stunt school. Lim Jong Soo has the body of Hollywood star Hugh Jackman and is Lime’s (Ha Ji Won) stunt mentor.

Up until now, Lee Phillip has been dubbed a “cold, urban man” for his portrayal of the characters Chul-Oh in The Legend and Do Jae Myung in Man’s Story. However, Lee is set to shed that tough-guy look in this project to play a “breezy hunk” who only has a heart for one woman’s love.

Stills showing this reverse side of Lee Philip have been released. The pictures contain shots of him during martial arts training, sweating, and showing off his firm muscles in a sleeveless shirt and another of him wearing a V-neck shirt with a matching jacket that helps him achieve that wild look. Especially eye-catching is his purposely unkempt hair, which is naturally wavy, adding to the “beastly” charm.

Lee agency, Catalyst Entertainment, says, “Lee Phillip thoroughly researched and completed the look, from the hair to the costume, to perfectly portray the character of stunt school CEO Jong Soo. The stereotypical image people have of Lee Philip will be erased by his role in Secret Garden.”

Secret Garden will begin airing on the 13th at 10:00 p.m. on SBS as the successor to Life Is Beautiful, and stars alongside Lee Philip, Ha Ji Won, Hyun Bin, Yun Sang Hyun, Kim Sa Rang, and Yoo In Nah.
