You got it right!  That’s Lee Joong Moon, her cousin.  Don’t think his character appearing much in QSD.  The first 2 pics are in ep 56 at 50:48 where the Queen coming into Gaya’s camp, while the last image is in ep 59 at 43:18 where Her Majesty visiting bow & arrow weapons development.

2nd option for me.

I have a feeling that the guy will be still alive, but LYW's character won't have good ending. Being adopted by Japanese parents and working as spy for Korea sound tragic and complicated already. Besides, she is a beautiful and brilliant surgeon/spy, such sophisticated female character potentially has sad or sadly open ending. Only poor and naive girls survives happily till the end in Korean dramas, lol  I heard Iris 1's ending is tear jerker, so the writer may do the same for this.

I'm ok with this kind of ending as long as it's a meaningful and memorable one. Secretly pray LYW's character is not a "backdrop" for the male hero to shine (like in HD). MBC, I will riot if you do it again, promise!

Good summary! It makes me think of Han Go Eun's outstanding second lead in Capital Scandal - an awesome role, but also one to very literally die for. LYW may feel the same about this role

I checked a bit abt Kim Won-Bong (the hero) and found there was a Korean movie in 2015 which he made a special appearance in (played by Cho Seung Woo from HD, what a coincidence! ). This movie

What surprises me is the poster is the one I posted here before with the thought that LYW's character may wear this kind of outfit.

If they write the script based on true story about his life, I hope LYW's character (a fictional character) is not involved in his love life. I may accept QSD's theory about her freaking handsome and talented non-blood brother having a crush on her...

I don’t know much about Yowon’s cousin.  I just bumped into his pic recently while browsing.  I think he had a drama in past June.

 

As for your praying LYW's character is not a "backdrop" for the male hero to shine (like in HD).  I don’t think so, not with the investment from China to just throwing millions of $$$ down the drain for her “background” appearance.  Probably they have heard a thing or two about Daepyonim already.

 

On other news, they have finalized to air DD in early May next year, with the intention to broadcast around the world.

Hope the same after reading your research, but I feel most likely the writer will make them fall in love in the middle of completing task.
