The bewitching actress looks cozy and laid-back in an ivory cardigan over a white shirt, matched with cotton jeans.

Lee has recently landed a starring role in SBS’ upcoming soap “Saimdang, the Herstory,” which will air in 2016. This is her first return to the small screen since the megahit “Jewel in the Palace” in 2003.

Lee Young Ae Unveils a Chic Short Hairstyle in New JLook Pictorial

drsa3.jpg

I might actually consider turning to the dark side if the trade-off is partaking of K-actress Lee Young Ae‘s beautifully aging fountain of class. it looks like her comeback after a ten year hiatus is well underway, with a steady stream of CF and fashion pictorials coming out, each confirming yet again that she’s deserving of being Korea’s most widely known actress export thanks to the enduring popularity of Dae Jang Geum.

Her latest pictorial is modeling designer wristwatches in a JLook spread, with the most noticeable transformation being her elegant new short haircut. I love it so much on her, it frames her insanely fine-boned facial features even more beautifully than a fall of long hair. I was never a fan during her DJG days but now am turning into one thanks to her well calibrated comeback train, with the ending station being her upcoming pre-filmed drama Saimdang: The Herstory, which airs sometime in 2016.

Song Il Gook Presents Lee Young Ae With Trophy at Korea Historical Fiction Star Awards

Song Il Gook Presents Lee Young Ae With Trophy at Korea Historical Fiction Star Awards

On October 24, the Korea Historical Fiction Star Awards were held in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province. At the ceremony, veteran actor Song Il Gookpresented Lee Young Ae with an award for her role in Korean period dramas.

While Song Il Gook is also known for his work in historical fiction dramas, the star of the night was Lee Young Ae. Song Il Gook presented her with a trophy for her achievements, to which she responded, “Min Sok Chon [a Korean folk village] gets a lot of love from overseas, as well as domestically. I’m very happy that so many people came out tonight.”

She added, “Right now I’m currently filming for the drama ‘Shin Saimdang: The Herstory’ here. I will work harder in the future for the people who came out and selected me for this award. This is my first drama since ‘Jewel in the Palace,‘ and I’m greeting you all once again with a historical fiction drama.”

The drama itself is about Shin Saimdang, an artist and writer and mother of Confucian scholar Yulgok (you’ll probably know her as the woman on the 50,000 won bank note), and deals with topics such as who makes for a good wife and mother.

The awards took place as part of a special Period Drama Festival in Min Sok Chon, honoring stars for promoting the Korean wave through historical fiction.

Folk village honors Lee Young-ae

Actress Lee Young-ae was honored for her contributions by the Period Drama Festival, organized by Korean Folk Village.

The actress appeared at the folk village in Yongin, Gyeonggi, on Saturday to receive the award. The folk village said it chose to recognize Lee for her hard work in the 2003 hit drama series “Dae Jang Geum,” set in the Joseon Dynasty (1392-1910).

Lee is currently working on a new historical drama series “Saimdang: Her Story,” the first project for the actress in over a decade.

“I’m currently shooting my new drama series here, and this is my first drama since ‘Dae Jang Geum,’” Lee said.

“This [new] drama tells the story of Shin Saimdang, who is revered by many people.

“You can expect a lot from it,” she added after receiving her trophy from actor Song Il-kook, the award ceremony’s host.

Shin, who graces the 50,000 won bank-note, was a calligraphist, painter and mother of the Joseon scholar Yulgok. She is one of the best known female Korean historical figures of her time.

In the drama, Lee plays Jang-geum, who begins her career as a cook in the palace but later becomes the king’s first female physician. The drama is also known as “Jewel in the Palace.”

“Dae Jang Geum” earned nearly 50 percent viewership in Korea and it is still one of the highest rated Korean drama series.

It is also credited for spreading Korean programming overseas. It earned nearly 90 percent viewership in Iran when it was broadcast in 2007.

Although “Dae Jang Geum” brought Lee global fame, the 44-year-old actress has been a stay-at-home mother since 2011, when she gave birth to twins.

Classic films get another shot in Korean theaters

Source: INSIDE Korea JoongAng Daily

Classics are worth revisiting for they still manage to resonate with present-day audiences.

That is why re-releasing old films has become a trend in Korean cinemas over the past few years.

Recently, a number of popular older movies are making a comeback, up to 30 years after their original release.

One blast from the past is the legendary romance flick by Michel Gondry and Charlie Kaufman, “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.”

Anybody who has experienced the pain of lost love can remember shedding a few tears while watching this film, which depicts a heart-wrenching love story between Joel (Jim Carrey) and Clementine (Kate Winslet).

The previously inseparable couple now can’t even stand to eat at the same table. Hurt and disappointed, Clementine decides to erase her memories of Joel. Feeling betrayed, Joel also decides to have his memories altered, only to realize he wants to keep those memories, no matter how painful they may be.

The film is revisiting the Korean audience to celebrate the 10th anniversary of its release here.

Also joining the re-release club are the first and second installments of the hit “Back to the Future” series.

The sensational ’80s sci-fi movies are about the time-traveling adventures of a teenage boy named Marty (Michael J. Fox) in a time machine invented by Dr. Brown (Christopher Lloyd).

To commemorate the date of Oct. 21, 2015, which is when Marty arrives in the future in the second movie, digitally remastered versions of “Back to the Future” (1985) and “Back to the Future Part II” (1989) were released worldwide last week.

Amid the buzz about what director Robert Zemeckis got right and wrong about the future, the films are enjoying a surprising level of success.

Since they opened in Korean theaters on Oct. 21, the movies have collected 20,000 ticket admissions as of Tuesday.

Local mystery thriller “Joint Security Area” (2000), one of the early works of star director Park Chan-wook, has also been re-released for its 15th anniversary after digital remastering.

Starring Song Kang-ho, Lee Byung-hun, Lee Young-ae and Shin Ha-kyun, the film revolves around the mysterious death of a North Korean soldier in the demilitarized zone.

Due to the better-than-expected response from audiences, production company Myung Films has decided to continue screening the film at its headquarters in Paju, Gyeonggi, through the end of the year.
