I do plan to re-watch some older kdramas, so I would love it if you guys would recommend some good light dramas to me.

have you seen sons of sol pharmacy? it is 50 eps but really lighthearted and fun to watch.

the first time I saw this scene, I had such a long laugh that people in my house wondered why I was laughing so much.  @agenth ~ there is young ji chang wook in there; he is the youngest brother who is worried about not getting food in the first few seconds.

  2. happy to report that I finally finished one whole drama without skipping episodes. feels like it has been a while. yay!

it was short but if anyone feels in the mood for a small rom-com to watch, jdrama "Ore no Kawaii wa Mousugu Shohikigen!?" is a decent watch.

    ppyrQ_3f.jpg

    things I liked:

ML is cute, comic and has depth. FL remains robot and data focused to the end. loved that she does not get makeover to attract him or comes out of her shell. instead she remains herself in every way but she just finds the confidence to make a home for herself wherever she is.

ML having existenstial crisis over losing his looks was amusing to watch. he does have other skills but him getting around to being okay with losing his looks in the future is not a track that I have seen before. an interesting part of the love story was the ML had to figure out how to pursue FL because he had no experience putting his foot forward despite having relationships. basically in his past, he was chased for his looks and his relationships centered around his charm and looks. so he never had to put in the work of developing anything substantial.

    all in all, a rom-com I enjoyed after a long while. 6.5/10

Is it what we call cheela- besan, moong daal cheela? I love cheela too.  Which one do you like most- besan or moong dal?

Yes! And binge watch it the same day. @Lmangla are you waiting for it too? I think after Parasite and Squid Game, it is one of the best from SK.

actually I was thinking of crepe only. though the options you mention sound fun to eat.

as for glory, I didn't watch it and no intention to. not my type of drama.

Tell me about it! I think many people are in major drama slumps currently - me included. You can tell by the lack of people on this forum. Nothing interesting is on at the moment.
Am only waiting for The Glory Part 2 to air in March.

Issue is that I am not finding anything interesting to watch anywhere else either, so am watching documentaries instead.

yea none of the dramas are really reaction type drama. been slowly watching the netflix drama love to hate you. all I have is hmm. nothing that gets me to type out so many feels on watching. basically you watch half asleep. thats why there is less chatter on the forum. even the daily dramas just get a yawn from me. have been also watching lots of documentaries here and there.

  4. to be honest, am not a fan of pancakes or waffles. crepes I like.

usually at home, we have a savoury version and it looks a bit like this:

    egg-pancakes-with-chives.jpg?s=612x612&w

a little different from the picture but sometthing close -- mincemeat and peas.

the sweet version has a coconut filling and it looks something like this:

    images?q=tbn:ANd9GcTAvUha9C70wxTxgmz3dsE

otherwise, not much going on @confusedheart; am still in a bit of a kdrama slump and so have been watching lot of random stuff as well as more local content. still waiting for that one kdrama to take soompi by storm!

Is this your YouTube channel??!??!?! :scream::scream::scream:

Either you released this YouTube video, or then whoever is the owner of this video ripped the text for Cheating Spouse from your Mydramalist review! She is using your exact words. :scream:

    https://mydramalist.com/80149-pleng-bin-bai-ngiw

"It was nuts but every episode had plot; there was never a dull moment! The characters were all surprisingly well written -- they were crazy but these felt like real people. These included the minor characters as well as the second leads. They all had depth and did act well. Everything is over the top in this drama and so are the characters and situations. Ultimately, the drama shows great examples of toxic relationships. Many of the characters actually grow while some just spiral out in crazy way. Definitely an engaging watch. "

Which one is it, sweetie? :scream: Are you AsianFanatic? :scream:

@joccu Did you see that Choiza is getting married?

    https://www.allkpop.com/article/2023/02/dynamic-duos-choiza-announces-upcoming-marriage

Still remember the days when him and Sulli were dating.

no idea who this guy is but he has written a really lovely announcement. I find it very poetic and sweet. I especially like this first line -- awwww. :kiss_wink:

"I've been walking alone for a long time. I've lived believing that I will, but I met a person who's stopped me from wandering around like this."

    Haha....I got:

    You are the main lead!

You're the star of the show. You've got the charisma and charm, and you LOVE attention, which goes well with this type of role. There is a natural aura about you that draws people in, and they need to know who you are. Go star, go!

Strange. I have no idea how the answers I chose led to this result. Maybe because I picked an enemies-to-lovers trope and Belle as a favorite Disney heroine?

    422

same here! I didn't choose belle or enemes to lovers though. not sure how it works. of all the questions, I was most puzzled by what to choose for the breakfast question. none of the options looked interested. :sweatingbullets:

Btw @Lmangla sweetie, is this what you’re watching instead of kdramas?

hahahah... yes, watching a local serial which is adaption of a turkish dizi. so far so good. but bad writing can always be around teh corner. hahahahha.. so enjoying the ride till then.

and yes, we love and hate all the silly tropes. we were chatting about it in the local forum -- basically we find them irritating but when they are not there, we are like "what the! where is the drama?" :joy:

randomly general knowledge of the day -- the circadian rhythm. our biological clock that naturally responds to sunlight and wakes up. also why we feel sleepy during afternoon -- so nap time is good! makes me wonder how all of this is affected in the nordic areas the sunlight is less during winter and more during summer.

  8. if I had to think of a romance that fit the theme of the thread -- revenge, cheating and second chances -- it would be fate and fury. the FL was cold angry and it was interesting to watch her seduce the ML with barely any effort. she basically had to breathe and guy was head over heels. lots of chemistry but the writing was a bit all over the place. so the first third -- intriguing; the second third -- meh and the final third -- interesting somewhat.

would have worked with some better writing. all the actors involved though did their job and it had nice shoes and a good OST.

But do you not have one drama that really just warms your heart and is kind of like a hug ?

the older rom-com dramas were like that; they were funny, sweet and heartfelt. I can't remember a rom-com that I enjoyed in the recent years. the one that came to mind immediately was my princess. haven't watched it since it aired but at the time I watched, I highly enjoyed it.

the ML looked hot!  his handsomeness was dialed up to the notch. FL was hysterically ditzy and dumb. it was a running joke tha she couldn't pick up things and he tried so desperately to teach her stuff to prepare her for her new life. there was great clothes, funny scenes and a nice OST. so yea, that felt kind of like a hug I guess. :D

  10. so I actually haven't watched a lot of the shorter revene series on this poll @agenth because they are too serious. like @maribella notes, dailies revenge category have a lot of unintentional humour and WTH which actually make it entertainng. they are not too serious that you are getting your blood pressure up or feeling angst. at the same time, it is entertaining. invariably, there is cheating allowed and the FL will get dumped. despite having the intellingence of a pea, somehow she will get the bestest revenge by finding a more handsome nice guy who just happens to meet her right after she gets dumped. good timing eh!

@Lmangla sweetie, I am so excited about this drama. The synopsis states that the wife doesn’t know about her husband’s identity as an agent / sniper. But that she also is harboring a big secret that no one else knows about. If this is a Mr and Mrs Smith situation it will be too predictable, so am hoping her secret will be of a different character.

Do we know what genre this is?

according to DB, it is supposed to be "action comedy" -- I am hoping her secret will be something super scandalous and funny. mr and mrs smith situation is too boring.

What is Durian anyway?  Anything you can compare the flavor to?

have you had jackfruit? this is what it looks like.

    Jackfruit-1-1024x560.jpg

durian is a smelly version of jackfruit. actually I didn't think it would smell that bad but the smell is kind of overpowering and it is not really sweet as jackfruit. also felt a bit slimy whereas jackfruit is firm and more chewy. durian is one of acquired taste foods. you either love it or you don't.

randomly going to check out a jdrama after a long time. watched a fan MV on youtube which made me curious. the trailer on viki was just really meh but the fan MV makes it seem the drama might actually have depth for a rom-com! checking out "Ore no Kawaii wa Mousugu Shohikigen" -- translates to as "my cuteness is about to expire"

JDrama Ore no Kawaii wa Mousugu Shohi release date announced+ teaser trailer! – Kaishi Universe

EDIT: ep 1 is surprising.  the ML is super aware of his good looks. in fact, maruya plays on his charms and looks to coast along school as well as work. at 29, he still thinks he is young and got it all. so he is shocked when he meets an older man who tells him that "his cuteness is about to expire" -- disturbed he chases the old man who tells him that he is the future self. poor maruya is totally flaberghasted.

the episode is short at less than 30 minutes. while it has the usual jdrama type comedy, the idea of ML having existenstial crisis over losing his looks and stressing out because he doesn't have anything other than his looks is interesting to watch. lot more depth than I would expect in a rom-com. will see more eps!

the villian lady got a lot of chatter for her role and acting. the drama was a bit of a parody and had political farce undertones. so not sure if it was more funny to korean audience but after a point, I got bored.

it wasn't like the american trailer with some hot romance. instead, we meet the couple after they have been married for a while and kind of bored with each other.

  15. @partyon @rocher22 ~ thanks for the heads up; won't bother with decoy. I don't understand the point of dramas where I can't see stuff. . :sweatingbullets:

randomly saw this trailer on youtube and I was confused to read in the notes that this was remake of "my fellow citizens" -- I didn't finish that kdrama but it was nothing like the vibes of this remake. not sure whether to facepalm or not.

this is the siwon version trailer:

this is the american remake trailer:

what do you think chingus? very different vibes no?

Hee hee, that is pretty cute but it feels like the cockpit windows could be higher. It’s amazing that things like that (and planes in general) get up off the ground.

yea, the video was interesting to watch because these planes carry a lot of weight. so it feels like the engine is huffing and puffing as it lifts off.

so the cockpit is purposely designed on bottom so that hull is on top. these beluga planes were specifically designed to carry airplane parts such as flaps and parts of wings to other manufacturing facilities. so the top of the hull opens up and they can put in cargo like this.

    61f063be2b43ff00185e85ba?width=945&forma

while I was watching the video, I was thinking "who came up with this design and were they watching fish documentary when they came up with it?"
