Oh dear.. I'm hoping HP to continue at least one more season.. Not ready to say goodbye yet, but I guess that's the risk with many casts, they probably have different projects in the future and it's hard to adjust all of their schedules.. Still hoping for season 3 with all the casts though..

it also depends on what kind of stories ShinLee want to bring as well... I'd rather have 2 solid seasons than 5 mediocre ones with dragged-out plot :(

But yes with the popularity that HP has gained, it would be difficult to gather all the cast members for every season ><

And sorry for me being dense but can some chingu make me understand how IkSun faced racism? What kind of racism is that she faced.

The cafe cashier acted on purpose as if she didn’t understand what Iksun said even tho it’s just simply “Latte Please!” with her accents.

Perhaps it’s not explicitly spelled out for audience to see like the more apparent cases of racism, but it IS still racism. But cases like this happen VERY commonly for Asians in English-speaking countries. It’s not simply a case of mishearing or difficulties hearing. It’s almost like mocking Asian accents on purpose.

Hope that clears up for you!

I dont think that was racism, I think she was oversensitive

No. She was NOT oversensitive. If the cashier purposely pretended to not understand Iksun’s accent, that IS racial microaggression, aka still racism. Cases like her are very common in US and UK. And guess what? The common responses/reactions/comments to these racial microaggressions towards Asians or any other person-of-color from Caucasians would usually be “are you sure that’s racist or you’re just being oversensitive?”, dismissing the victims’ experience and feelings. This made all Asians living in those countries feel as if it’s their fault, their ‘bad’ accents that warranted these types of racist occurrences to themselves.

@JJS's Fan-atics I don't know if its racism per- se or the wait staff being purposely dense. This is London which is heavily multi- cultural. ESL speakers with accents are common. I have heard multiple instances where a person purposely pretend not to understand an ESL person if they don't want to serve them. Now that is racism. I am an ESL speaker who happen to be fluent in English and have faced a lot of condescending behaviour from so- called native English language speakers. " Latte please " is not even a hard request.

Iksun’s story implied that the cashier purposely acted as if she didn’t understand the simple “Latte Please”. I don’t think she was even served the latte at all and left bc she got so frustrated and flustered. So at the end, that cashier, in her subtly racist way, did and was able to refuse serving Iksun right? I don’t think that cashier was being dense at all. It IS racial aggression type of behavior, and like you said, condescending, which is totally enough to be labeled as racism.

  4. We all love to pick at our ex-priest's repression, don't we!

This would be my own opinion and my own interpretation only! Gotta re-channel all my WG thoughts that were buried deep in our previous thread.. lol

    1. Towards the Priesthood Dream:

I don't think JeongWon truly wanted to be a priest throughout his whole life. He might have told himself so, using 'childhood dream' as a label. This was evidently shown in the conversations with his priest brother in the first episode. It's true that his brother told him to keep hanging on for another year, but at the same time, if he was passionate enough and wanting it enough, he would have proceeded with priesthood already. I feel like he only told himself that he has to be a priest and that he would be a priest eventually, yet many of his actions kept proving otherwise. That's why, I too believe that the 'priesthood' is meant as his escape route, or his 'believed' true calling.

His words speak the 'believed' true calling while his actions show his actual true calling - being a pediatric doctor to care for the young' wellbeings.

Someone wanting to be a priest wouldn't sign up for medical school, then surgery, then Pediatric Surgery specialization. It's a very tenacious process that requires perseverance and strong enough passion to push through. So much to the point that it's normal if one dropped out of school to pursue something else, but he pushed through. He didn't stop at just family doctor (only 4 years of med school+residency), but to specialize in surgery AND specifically Pediatric Surgery, he must have loved children enough.

As his story unfolds throughout the episodes, we were shown more of him keep pushing out/delaying the priesthood road, or priesthood is only his facade, or an emotional escape route.

    1. Him wanting to pass over the DDL to SHwa in ep 1 but not doing so til Ep 10 (in HP timeline that's 8 months (Mar - Nov) this boi i swear!!!!!

    2. Him not mentioning about priesthood anymore once his patients were doing better

    3. Even when he got accepted to the priest program in Italy, he wouldn't choose to go right away but delay it to the end of the year instead due to all the scheduled surgeries.

    4. (maybe there are more signs but I can't remember all at the moment)

    2. Towards his own family, Lacking Five, and social circle:

I do agree with @randomthotz that JeongWon seems very lonely. The type that "seeing others enjoying food makes one happier than eating the food' tends to be lonely in their own thoughts. They would be the one that need their feelings/beliefs validated. (With this thought, another reason could also be that no one had validated his priesthood dream before, that made him keep dragging it out) He puts others first, his patients, family, and friends, before himself. He'd usually be the one doing the validating instead of receiving validation.

He has his close friends, aka the Lacking Five, that he'd show another self to--banmal-talk, oversensitivity, holding grudges, pettiness, etc.- which is the opposite side that he showed to everyone else--formality, warmth, kindness, 'Buddha-like'. I wouldn't label which side is a truer self; I believe both are part of him as a whole individual. Due to social norms that he may choose to filter out his character traits depending on the individual and the situation.

I don't think JeongWon's interaction with the Lacking Five represents his true character traits because he still doesn't tell/share with them EVERYTHING like how SeokHyeong does it. They have to interpret it based on the emotions he wears on his face. To the point that his furrowed brows and angsty look meant his patients not doing well, and vice versa, his excited look and tteobeokki--generosity meant his patients' health improving. His own emotional state is not even his own. One could be sad or happy because of anything, but to his friends, his emotions belong to his patients, not to him. That, to me, is loneliness.

    3. Towards Jang GyeoUl

The only 'priest-like' aspect was his lack of romantic relationships in his 20s and 30s. Perhaps it was due to his own beliefs that he was supposed to be a priest anyways so there was no point of pursuing any romance, or no one had invoked that feeling out of him yet.

    Until GyeoUl came. <3

She was the sole being that made him break out of his character, even from the start. She was the one that sees an entirely different self of JeongWon, that he didn't even show to anyone else.

She's the first 'other' that made him angry to the point of reprimanding. Because what she was doing goes against his beliefs and passion. This goes back to his true-calling of his passion: If he doesn't care enough about the patients and their wellbeing, he would not have interrupted GyeoUl's ways and methods in doing her job. He might judge and avoid working with her (which he did anyways lol), but he wouldn't interrupt or reprimand her at the time. Then at the maggot scene, he found himself judging her too prematurely, that her bluntness doesn't discriminate, and that perhaps she lacks the proper training on patients' bedside manners.

She's the first 'other' that experience a different interaction from JeongWon compared to his Lacking Five, family, and everyone else. She's supposed to belong to the 'everyone else' group that he should wear the 'Buddha-like' personality to. But he refrained from doing all of that instead, to the point of being quite cold to her and deliberately keeping all their interactions at the professional level only.

She's the first 'other' that he began to be conscious of, from keeping tabs on her (knowing her and MinHa are BFF, being present at her drug addict case with the director even when it's not his patient or his case), to wanting to feed her her favorite snack (Mon Cher). Due to keeping tab on her, he also recognized her doctor skills and continue to mentor her in pediatric cases (they always go to ER and doing patient rounds together). He knows how hard she works, how much she truly cares for the patients, and how much she had improved herself everyday.

She's the first 'other' that he actually trust enough to intently ask to assist his surgery, and eventually lead one of his surgery, something he's know to never have done before.

She's the first 'other' that he YangPyeong-ed even when he's known to accept anyone's dinner invitation, even if it's just two people and of opposite gender. Then later, she'd be the first 'other' who he'd initiate buying a meal for.

She's the first 'other' in the 'everyone else' group that he'd use banmal talk with.

And of course, she's the first that he'd kiss and hug.

All of this, she's the person that shakes him out of his 'believed' childhood dream.

I don't mean to offend any religion. I also don't think GyeoUl being the important reason for JeongWon no longer pursuing priesthood is necessarily a bad thing. That, to me, is like saying romance love is not as sacred as religious belief and faith. At the end of the day, all of them are human's feelings, that should all be equally validated.

Only when she is in the picture, JeongWon is shown to experience ongoing headaches, as if he battles with himself everyday over priesthood, his patients' wellbeing, AND this newfound feeling for GyeoUl that doesn't seem to subside anytime soon. The more he tries to repress his feelings, the stronger it became.

As much as it made me wonder as well about the 'why 3 weeks? Why so long for him to say anything?', I think that it could be a 'hide and seek' between the JeongWon and GyeoUl too.

JeongWon (whether he's aware that she likes him or not) doesn't know what position to break the news to her, like what right does he have to tell her when he's nothing to her but a mentoring professor, what's the purpose of a professor telling his resident that he's not going anywhere anymore, and also if he should confess his feelings or not is another issue. And maybe he thought that if he ended up staying past the 'Dec 29th' then that must also mean, to her, that he's staying anyways... so that saves him a conversation... lol

GyeoUl is also contemplating on how she should approach him about Mama Rosa's request. She has long accepted that he doesn't like her, but she cannot bring herself to turn down Mama Rosa's tearful earnest request either. Even with his mom's words that he looks like he really cares for her, I don't think GyeoUl really believed it either since all the interaction/reaction she had received from JeongWon was mostly coldness, YangPyeong lie, and professional formality only.

Both of them were mentally beating themselves up for different reasons. On top of patients and hospital works, it could very much drag out.

And since she doesn't know that he's no longer leaving, she ends up doing the initation, to wager her last chance and to properly confess her feelings to him.

Sorry if I rambled on for too much, I ended up not drinking coffee today HAHA I also want to do the similar analysis on GyeoUl too, but I'll save it for another time! :)

Why do I get the feeling that they told YYS he had a loveline but not much details... But then YYS asked so many questions that he probably figured out who it was...

hahahahah knowing YYS through interviews/shows thus far, this is a plausible case!!!

In some interview, SHB also said that she figured out about their loveline when they were filming the maggot scene.

So it's safe for me to assume that they BOTH know about their loveline with each other!

Since we can't really get our old posts back (at least yet), do you guys want to do some sort of prompts to express your thoughts again? As a way to reminisce Winter Garden together?

    For example,

    1. What was the moment that made you jump onto WG ship and STAYEDDDDDDD?

    2. Elaborate your thoughts on JeongWon's repression

    3. What were some of the impressive micro-expressions from both YYS's JeongWon and SHB's GyeoUl throughout the scene?

    4. DO YOU THINK THEY HAD THEIR MEAL DATE BEFORE THE KISS???????????? WHY AND WHY NOT?

    5. you guys can add more haha I can't think much right now

I just want to share one of my favourite quotes from Hospital Playlist which is maybe quite useful with the current situation:

Maybe time is what we need. And maybe time is what some people need.

To see things that they denied to see.

To understand the story and the message that Production team want to deliver through Hospital Playlist.

    To accept the reality.

To respect the fact that not everyone has to agree with you, and you don't have to agree with everyone.

Jong Su is like my spirit animal because that's also how I solve most of my problems hahahahah

Speaking of these cute elderlies, what I'd hate to see for the future seasons is that their death may be inevitably written onto the storyline and Its gonna break my heart soooooo much :tears:

Also, JongSu's depression issue wasn't fully resolved or addressed yet, same thing with SeokHyeong's mother's arrythmia :(  I hope sad news wouldn't happen...

And one more thing im still confused at on my NOT-25th-rewatch :phew: for the first episode, during the funeral scene where JunWan asked if IkJun knew something and SongHwa responded no he didn't. What is that 'thing'?????

  8. @milkokoa no worries, you're not gonna get flak from any of us WG shippers ;) In it afterall should be civil discussions. Though like @leftphalange @kokodus @Vicmrtnz @Doesntmatter and many others had discussed through 200s pages, WG's interactions may be limited, but their romance is nowhere abrupt.

JeongWon is constantly shown to always be out of character whenever he's with GyeoUl. He's multiple times characterized as this wonderful nice and kind human being to the point of earning his 'Buddha' nickname, yet he lashed out easily at GyeoUl (though understandable since she was harsh and too blunt to the mother).. and even after the 'maggot incident', he still can't act 'kind and nice' to her as he is to everyone else. Such distinction in his behavior is shown clearly as deliberation on his part as well. Like she is the only one he cannot be himself around. I would be convinced if he actually didn't have any feelings for her at all if those were the only scenes showed. Yet the director throw in scenes like him noticing GU being BFF and always together with GU, him blanking out at GU being picked up by another guy afterwards in front of the ER entrance (TWICE too), him unintentionally looking at her direction right away when IkJun teasingly called out her name, him kindly and immediately saying yes to take anyone and everyone out to dinner/movie but YangPyeong-ing only GU. These scenes were shown with the clear purpose that at one point, JeongWon started to be very conscious about and started having feelings for GyeoUl. And because of his priest dream, he's scared that once he acted upon such feelings, he will for sure not be able to go for such dream anymore (although it's also shown clearly that his heart and mind would always prioritize the wellbeing of the adorable kids way above the priest dreams). Until he slowly wanted to give up the priest dream in the later episodes (10 and beyond) we're shown with a much more relaxed JeongWon around GyeoUl, comfortably talking to her and about her, relying on her surgery assistance, and trusting her enough to let her lead a surgery (even for this, both the OR nurse AND Prof Hwang from the flashback scene had mentioned that he'd never let anyone do the ped surgery yet he let GyeoUl do). And the rest is like everyone mentioned.

WG's scenes may be limited, but they are nowhere NOT substantial. Every scene about them showed, though slow, strong and clear development and that kiss says it all :)

IRL shipping only came afterwards. I didn't even know who she was before HP. If it wasn't for that kiss and more BTS/Cam relays and YYS's accidental follow incident, a lot of us won't be shipping them IRL that hard :w00t: Though it's just fun and game. We lots still respect their real life decisions ;)

and JeongWon-SongHwa is my favorite PLATONIC pair out of the Lacking Five. I love how they can rely and understand each other without the needs to say anything :)

Let's not forget about the small hint writer put into

I have feeling that the person SongHwa liked in the past was JeongWon.

In Ep2, SongHwa is the main vocal to sang "Introduce me a nice person"

And she repeated that line in the car

And she did it exactly the same to JeongWon. She put her head to his shoulder whose has a nice hand (and soft too)

I dont think this is just a coincidence. No no no

Sorry for cutting your post short.

i'm also sorry to say this but those hints about hands that 'indicate' SongHwa liking JWon in the past are definitely reaching. During all the flashbacks, there was never any moment that screams SongHwa 'crushing on' JeongWon. The one with the high likelihood to have been her crush was IkJun - her staring in admiration at IkJun's playing the guitar. She tenderly looked at IkJun just like how SeokHyeong tenderly looked at her. That's the intentional look for someone that impresses you.

and if we rely on JeongWon holding her shoulders to support her purchasing impulse  as a romantic gestures that 'hint' for their future romance development, aren't we too old-fashioned?? lol That's really normal gestures of friends, even of opposite genders.

There are 3 guys that hold her shoulders during the first season: JeongWon, IkJun , and ChiHong. yet JeongWon's is the only one she was comfortable with/not weary of. Why? Because there's no romance-insinuated motive underneath JeongWon's action, compared to the other two. Because they are and will always be FRIENDS.

    ------------

That's why we have fanfics, guys... you can ship whoever you want in your imagination. :) Just write it out how you want your ship to be. :)

  12. I LOVE the OST of the after credits  Does anyone know the name?

As a strong advocate for mental health awareness, this drama hits the soft spot for me. Kim Soo Hyun (and his abs) is just a very plus :w00t: I enjoy it so far.

    - the aesthetics of the cinematography is very pleasing

    - we get the glimpse into Mun Young's past that she was a victim of family suicide attempt by her father, that type of trauma may have contributed to her Antisocial Personality Disorder. She visibly displays many signs of sociopathy, yet as a public figure her being able to mask it for that long is quite something.... or perhaps it's the power of bribery? lol

    - I'm very interested in her character development and potentially her healing process

    - (YeJi's deep raspy voice is intriguely pleasing) ~~~

    - Kang Tae had a quite difficult life, I must say... Did it mention yet why he only works for roughly 1 year ? Or that still remains a mystery?

One thing I personally don't like so far is the directing choice of dramatically alternating up-close shots for like 5 times before ending the scene, i.e. that stabbing scene in the backstage and when he stops her from smoking... It makes the flow of the scene so awkward for me

  14. If they were to have scenes from their days back then, one thing I personally want to see is a story/scenario that inspired each of them to pursue their respective specialization field.

I totally forgot about JeongWon’s character description’s part of his ‘love in his 20’s’ since Personally I feel like the whole season 1 didn’t even address or imply it to the slightest.

so wouldn’t it be weird to suddenly have flashbacks about his supposed ‘first love’ in season two now when there was no indication at all in season one? What’s the point of it? Unless it meant to introduce a ‘love rival’ to WG relationship?

Completely agree with you guys on JeongWon and his 'pursuring priesthood' journey.

This drama shows so many signs of him keep delaying/dragging it out, some more signs that I'd like to add..

In Ep 1, he was gonna tell/pass over the DDL tol SongHwa (on the phone call) then he didn't actually tell her until ep 9

In Ep 3, he was gonna tell the hospital director of him quitting when he's about to submit the letter of rec, but didn't actually do it until ep 9 either

And then everytime the topic of Italy/priesthood comes up, you can see him being in clearly distress yet everytime there is scene of him with his kids patients, he always put on a warm smile/more relax/passionate.

I mean..... now that I watch HP like 5 times (I swear it's not 6 or 9 or 15 times at all :phew:), it's becoming more apparent that as the show goes on, the stories show us more  reasons of why JeongWon would NOT actually go through with priesthood!!

Hmmm But he gave her the snack she wanted, there were a lot of snacks in the tray, he could've given her anything, but he meticulously noticed that she only liked this particular snack to even eat two of them in one sitting. This is funny because they are in the middle of a meeting and instead of concentrating on that, he was stealing glances at her to see what she was eating and plotting in his mind on how to smoothly pass her those chocopies. He is so whipped. LOL.

If he had eaten those choco pies himself, that would've been counted as a clue I guess. LOL. But no he saved it for Gyeo ul, he only ate the pepero sticks and saved the precious chocopies for his girl. Hahaha.

Contrast to this is kalguksu scene when he was extremely annoyed at SONG HWA, yes supposedly his first love according to some, and Junwan for eating all the meat and leaving him just with tofu. LOL. If it was Gyeo ul, he would've put all the meat in her bowl just like how he gave her those remaining two chocopies. Hahahaha.

I swear if I hear the word locked in one more time......:vicx:

Jeong won being the protective boyfriend closing Gyeo Ul's ears with his large thumb so that she doesn't have to hear these theories about him and Songhwa. LOL.

"Don't listen to them Gyeo ul-ah. I only belong to you" LOL.

LMAOOO I LOVE THIS SOOO MUCH AND I LOVE YOUUU FOR THISSS HAHAHAH

    :wub::lol:

can always count on you to come to WG rebuttal rescues from haters !! :w00t:

I mean during that meeting JWon even looks like he pretends to eat those pepero sticks so he had an excuse to keep glancing over at her. Cuz when yo mouth is busy chewing food, yo eyes are allowed to wander to the sight you wanna see the most

I'm right with you that SongHwa's role for the season 1 too. Describing her as the emotional pillar is also spot on. She's not just the emotional pillar for the Lacking Five, but also for her juniors and everyone too. She always keeps her image strong, reliable, and not easily shaken. She has easily become one of my favorite kdrama characters of all time. And because she has portrayed to be so strong and reliable that the scene of her being vulnerable and trembling in nervousness in her car by herself before hearing her biopsy results resonates so strongly with me. It tells us that she is indeed human as well. That it's possible for her to break down, to be vulnerable just like others. She has just hidden it a little too well this season.

I'm looking forward to what the PD and writer has in store for her development for the next season.
