  1. Another great episode with ep 18 and so many thoughts to discuss as always...but I have to say I am very disappointed by the lack of Cha Young screen time in episodes 17 and 18.  Of course I understand the focus will be on Vincenzo given the drama title but I don't understand why Cha Young has been sidelined so much these last couple of episodes.  Such a waste of an excellent actress like JYB.

Im a bit confused about the distance or wall between them it seems very abrupt and not in line with the story so far. I just wonder is they just had simultaneous shooting going on with Vincenzos scenes seperate and HCY and plaza residents scenes (coming in ep18) seperate and less scenes together as a result. And because of that the distance seems to exist but isn’t the writers intention?

Even the suicide bomber who was actually involved in her fathers killing when Vincenzo asked her she strongly answered she was okay with it even though she seemed upset. Was she upset because the situation was just overwhelming with everything going on rather than an ethical dilemma? Or are they showing the ethical dilemma as a simmering issue which will cause Vincenzo to leave the mafia world for HCY? But that contradicts what the scissor man advised Vincenzo.

ughhh I think the episode was confusingggg and not clear at all with what it wanted to show and not intentionally at that, seems like a rushed shoot instead!

This is a good point.  it could be a purely logistical matter as they were speed shooting with a big cast, different locations on a tight timeline.  Thinking about it we had very few Jipurgi scenes this weekend.

Are they ever going to just talk again?  i don't think it is something that will keep them apart but I do think this "ethical dilemma" still needs to be addressed because these last two episodes have shown us even more of the darkness Vincenzo is capable of.  I hope they are not just going to sweep this under the carpet.

Mouth echoes friends but heart says love. I take Cha Young’s Italian line is yet another way of suppressing her feelings. She feels a certain way for him but holds back from expressing it. But to let him know that she cares, she expresses about their friendship. They do have a strong friendship but they also have love which they aren’t quite ready to pursue. Been listening to the new ost and it’s giving me very positive feelings about their relationship. It’s such a lovely song. Hoping we get confession episode 19 and a full episode 20 of VCY in a relationship! Please!!

Same as my thoughts.  She isn't brave enough to tell him her feelings but she does reassure him of the depth of their friendship.  It is Vincenzo who will have to initiate if they are going to take the next step. It was also super cute she learned a phrase in another language just for him:blush:

“ A single soul inhabiting two bodies “ means love, not friends.

I think her mistake was on purpose from the writer.  I hope Vincenzo will correct her next week and we will get our CenCha moment:fullofhearts:

The scene at the end of this episode 18 was a fantastic parallel to the first episode:

"In Episode 1, when Cha-young Hong was almost beaten by a man, Vincenzo saved him by shouting "Wait a minute"
And in episode 18, when Cha-young Hong was almost beaten by a man, Vincenzo came to rescue him while shouting "Wait a minute"

Vincenzo book on the plane was called "How to Befriend a Bird"  Cha Young is his number one but after her he is most whipped for Inzaghi:lol:

This episode make me feel that between vincenzo and cha young... there's a wall. They are still companion, but unless there's something drastic happen, i dont see their romance would advance any further.

I agree about the wall in episode 17 (although I still believe their relationship will advance eventually:relaxed:).  This is the first time we have seen this disconnect between them.  Even when they were not as close at the beginning of their partnership there was never this distance between them.  I think it's because Vincenzo is grieving and hardened himself, focusing on the task and CY can't quite get through.

I thought this tweet also describes the issue well.  Prior to Episode 17 he would have discussed it with her or given her the choice.

Thanks for posting the ratings @mystic62 and @larus So happy Vincenzo ratings are still going strong:yay:  The drama has been a bit unlucky in timing going up against two big terrestrial dramas in a row: first, the ratings juggernaut that is Penthouse which was followed by Taxi Driver that is also getting great ratings for SBS. It's very impressive that our drama (which airs on a cable channel) has still managed to hold it's own against the two highest rated SBS dramas in the last year.

Enjoy watching some interpretation video from the korean audience. (There's eng sub cc in this video). Some good points here.

    Main point discussed in video:

    - He dissect the scene Han Seo looking at pictures of Vincenzo and his bro to see who he should choose to side with. Junwoo mention Elizabeth Holmes as an innovator, the author here explain who is Elizabeth Holmes - she's basically a scam, coming up with an idea of attracting investors with nothing. But Junwoo believes Elizabeth Holmes is innovative, shows Junwoo's mindset of running business. Han Seo after his encounter with vincenzo and did some studies, seem to know who is Elizabeth Holmes now and may develop a different approach for leading babel.

    - The shooting scene could be a ploy to get Vincenzo to stay in Korea due to threatening injuries (they can't deport him if he's injured).

Thanks so much for the Korean viewer video and bullet points.  When Han Seok mentioned Elizabeth Holmes I was so confused because the only Elizabeth Holmes I have heard of is the one behind the Theranos scam.  I was wondering if he was referring to another Elizabeth Holmes but this was clearly a clue for Han Seo (who has been reading the business books!) that his brother still can't be trusted.  Being compared to a scam artist Elizabeth Holmes is not a compliment<_<

  5. - Episode 17 was another rollercoaster.  About that ending: at first I was angry about being fooled by Han Seok but now I think after reading various comments especially @leeriiin he and Vincenzo have a plan.

    - I knew Vincenzo wouldn't kill the Babel baddies but it was satisfying seeing them grovel and Han Seok's pain when Vincenzo shot his hear.

    - very beautiful and sad send-off at the beginning of the episode for Vincenzo's mother.  SJK's acting was heartbreaking.  I'm glad he had CY and his new family by his side.  Now we know why CY was crying when she read the note with the scarf.  Vincenzo even put Bungeoppang on her grave  :bawling:

    - the tenants looked fantastic in their new Cassano family outfits.  Love that they were there for vincenzo at the funeral and being bad RickRoll'D supporting him with the plan.

    - I didn't quite understand the purpose of the Babel party/bomb threat scene until Vincenzo killed the henchman.  Nothing like showing how serious you are by killing a man in front of them:o

    - so relieved the Director of the international Security Intelligence Service was on their side all along.  Mr Cho's entrance was so extra.  We already know Mr An and the Director are extra so clearly it is part of the requirements to work there

(P.S. Did anyone notice the little inside joke when the Director said he was going to beat Kim Hui Won and Park Jae Bum.  They are the PD and writer of the drama :lol::lol:)

    - There was too little Cha Young this episode:tears: Felt like aside from the scene where she was conflicted about the murder of the killer she didn't have much to do or many lines.  Good thing the preview shows she will be a lot more active next episode.

    - Same with lack of Mr Nam and Jipuragi trio moments:tears:

    - I know Han Seung-hyuk is a cowardly, yellow-bellied snake but he makes me laugh so much.  Jo Han chul's snivelling, sneaky coward acting is so en pointe.  I also like his sneaky bromance with Han Seo.

He knew the second henchman would go running back to Myung Hee and Myung Hee being Myung Hee would deal with him.  That way Vincenzo kills two birds with one stone without having to get his hands dirty with the second and keeps his promise to Cha Young.  The henchman couldn't leave the country without help.  Unlikely he has any money and he must have prior convictions.

I get that. I'd probably be shocked at first, too. But then take in to consideration V's mafia life and the murder the guys committed and I'd understand. They were cruel killing CY's father, and V was cruel back. The kindergarten phrase comes to mind, "treat others how you want to be treated." Also, eye for an eye. In this case, life for a life.

One would have thought that they had become friends after helping V did some nasty things... and to end their lives just like that seemed cruel... yes yes, they did kill CY's father... but CY probably has forgiven them.. sigh..

CY hasn't forgiven them.  In episode 11 she says to Vincenzo that she hates dealing with them because she can't forget what they did which is when Vincenzo promises to get rid of them once they have served their purpose.  If you look at her body language when she is in the room with them in this episode you can tell she is very uncomfortable.  However, definitely don't think she was expecting Vincenzo to get rid of them in sucha  brutal fashion which is why she is so conflicted.

I just hope that Han Seo hasn't really betrayed Vincenzo and they are working together in some crazy idea for making an escape.  When he tried to call him "hyung" before, his feelings seemed sincere.

And regarding Cha Young, I understand her shock when Vincenzo killed the guy. Hating your father's killer is a thing and becoming involved with killings yourself is another one, and a path with no return. Maybe this makes her think about the distance between Vincenzo and her, because as much as she enjoys fighting out of the law, I doubt she wants to become an assassin...and this will always separate them. Not sure if they will end up running away together or with a prospect of a future together. In any case, I'm fine with this romance being subtle and a bit in the background, because with so much violence and revenge going on it would be a bit jarring that they focus on it now. I'd rather prefer that they hint at a future together in the finale, but after all the action and vengeance end.

Agreed with both points.  If Han Seo was faking then he is a superb actor and takes best-actor-who-isn't-an-actor title from actress-lawyer Cha Young lol:lol:

I totally agree with how Cha Young felt seeing her father's murderer killed. She managed to find determination after she thought about her father's dead body but I still don't think she was exactly comfortable about it. Also even if she was OK with the abstract idea of him being killed; it is very different to seeing him blown up alive in front of her eyes.

Personally, I don't even need overt romance but I do wish the drama would give them some time to bond and talk again like it did in the middle episodes. I want to see them address Vincenzo nightmares especially as episode 17 confirms he killed someone in front of their child, about Vincenzo lying about killing. I also want more insight into CY's feelings: talking about her own experiences with both her parent's death, having no friends and family, CY's feelings about him killing. I don't mind subtle romance and I didn't expect romance to be the focus but I thought after THAT  kiss we would get a little development. Now there are only three episodes left and so much to tie up in the main plot that I don't know where they will fit in more CenCha.

Thanks for the clip.  i know SJK has a skating background so it's nice he gets to show off his skills on ice.  I am convinced the writer and director are actually secret SJK fanboy/girl LMAO!  I also was not expecting this Vincenzo  and HS bromance but I like it a lot!  I think Vincenzo probably sees that Han Seo can be redeemed with the right guidance.  He isn't rotten like his brother. Meanwhile, Han Seo is so excited around him.  I guess because to HS he is a bit like the big brother he never had.

This is why i dont want Vincenzo to have another season no matter how eager i am seeing more of VCY. Seasonal series only work if the writers have already planned it to be seasonal even before the show starts. They already have brief idea of what to highlight and develop each season and how it will lead to the ending at the final season. Seasonal dramas just based on viewers' responds is a big no for me. No matter how genius and creative you are, there's limit to inspiration. In one moment you get to develop amazing plot but then the next moment you dont know how to evolve it more than you already have and to end it as epically as it start.  This can become worse when you keep getting people's feedback which cause you to lose focus on what you initially want to do with the story.

Thus i want Vincenzo to end with proper happy ending at episode 20. No more continuation. This is the result of years of disappointment in seasonal series (i'm looking at you western seasonal series).

Anyways another great theory from folk at twitter. This one is quite interesting since it discuss the possibility of how V can get his permanent citizenship in Korea.

I agree.  I would LOVE to see more but considering the writer seemed to rewrite a fair bit as the story was ongoing and struggled with the ending of this season I'm not sure if another season would be the wisest decision. For now I'm just fervently hoping for a satisfying and happy ending with closure for all characters.

That Twitter account is impressive, she has put a lot of thought into this theory.

I thought this tweet was interesting as they have worked out Vincenzo has only been in South Korea for about two months. I thought it had been there a lot longer-at least 3 or 4 months?-for some reason:relaxed:

  8. I wonder what they are struggling over with the ending.  If it will be happy, sad or open-ended? If Vincenzo decides to stay in Korea or not?  If the villains will live or die? The ultimate fate of Wusang and Babel?  Who gets the gold?  From recent BTS pictures it looks like CenCha, Mr Nam, Han Seok and Choi Myung-Hee are still filming.

At 0:29, Vincenzo is wearing a hockey jersey. He’ll show up to give Jang Han Seok a taste of his own medicine. I’m so excited because we get to see sjk in that fit and see him skating. For those of you who don’t know, sjk did short track speed racing for many years of his life until he got injured and had to quit.

Vincenzo really is an ode to Song Joong Ki. I love how the writer incorporated many of his past characters and now even this.

We still have 4 episodes left but I can’t help feeling the withdrawals already. Not sure what to do when it’s all over. :bawling: As a fan of SJK, I’m really happy he was met with such a good project, the best leading lady, and a fun cast and crew. Like he said, Vincenzo was his healing point. I’m glad to see him smiling and having fun on set.

I tuned into Vincenzo for SJK but fell in love with JYB. What a gem of an actress! She has become one of my favorites and I look forward to binging her previous works and supporting her future projects. She’s not only talented but beautiful, cool, and warm-hearted. She just radiates such positivity and watching her (whether it’s her interviews or acting) makes me so happy!  Can’t imagine anyone not loving her.

Sorry for my early sappy post. No Vincenzo this week got me feeling some type of way. I’m sure I will follow with another sappy post when the drama is officially over.

After going back to that scene i got what Mr.Tak is saying. To add to what you said, he also said that things are becoming complicated because VC keeps meddling with others' affair and he notes that VC is indeed korean after all. I really like this saying. Another subtle mesage from the writer. Despite being raised in Europe VC has the overly caring attitude of Korean. It's a virtue in most asian countries (actually it depends on the individual but still in some countries this virtue is stronger). Although it can be annoying at times this attitude is actually a good virtue and much needed to bring equality in society.

Speaking of Mr. and Mrs. Lee, i think it is hinted that they used to have a kid (episode 11 as reference) because Mr. Lee said he just wants to make Dal Rae proud of his dad. This kid might have died to whatever reason it is and make them stop the thug life, hide their talent and maybe stop the thought of having babies again. I conclude this because Mrs. Teokbokki asked him if he changes his mind after hearing the pregnancy plan. I think most of these geumga tenants yearn for a meaningful life/job but they lack the tools to do so. Once this charismatic mafia who has the power, brain, and money come to back them up, they gain their courage to contribute more in bringing down the bad people. This also encourages Lee couple to accept their past and move on with their life hence they are open to having baby again.

I like your new profile picture :fullofhearts:

I do remember that mention but as it was said without context during more shouting from the pawnship couple it didn't really make any impact.  A lot of people skip over the annoying scenes with the GP residents.  I guess we will get the backstory in the upcoming 4 episodes.  I agree with your take on how Vincenzo has helped them.  However, I think the writer missed the opportunity to develop the GP characters over the course of the drama to make their development and VC's impact on them more meaningful. I think another problem is there are just too many of them.  I feel like the writer could have cut two or three of the residents and it would make no difference.  I actually really like all the actors playing the GP tenants so this isn't meant as a slight on them but more so on how their characters were handled.

I definitely also took note of and appreciated Mr. Tak’s passing remark. It marks another instance where VC is accepted and embraced by the motley Geumga crew as both family and a fellow countryman, almost like a rite of passage. In the earlier episodes, VC was viewed as an untrustworthy, foreign interloper whose sole purpose was to take away the place the Geumga Plaza residents call home. Hong Yoo-chan even berates VC for stirring trouble and gruffly tells him to « go back home » to Italy, not knowing that VC was flying back to Korea upon being rejected by his Mafia family, and by extension the very country he’s come to regard as home.

that isn’t to say that coming back to Korea is like a tearful homecoming. In fact, quite the opposite. After being abandoned by his mother and sent abroad, he no longer has any real ties to his birth country, and only views his stay in Korea as a necessary layover to collect his stash of gold. When he visits his mother in prison, he states that he won’t be here for long because « this isn’t his country. » However, while he attempts to adopt a matter of fact attitude about it, it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to know just how deeply scarring it is for him to not have a sense of belonging anywhere. His words carry a lot of venom meant to hurt his mother, but also profound resignation because he’s always been an outsider.

Fast forward to yesterday’s episode, VC’s moment on the rooftop with Mr. Tak is like a verbal acknowledgment of him no longer being an outsider. In his time with the Geumga residents, he has very much found a family that cares about him and accepts him for who he is.

Excellent comment!  I really enjoyed reading yours and @bee_wannabe's insightful analysis of Mr Tak's words particularly how Vincenzo is no longer an outsider.

Chingus, what a week it was, and the episodes are getting intense every week. I have been loving the plot development happening here and hope that it will continue being great and end quite well. Of course Jang Han Suk and Choi Myung Hee made the worst move ever by killing Vincenzo's mother. I really thought they planning to kidnap her, but the looks of it, after losing every time against him, and seeing their plans failing, they decided to have a small victory.

I knew they were going to end it at a cliffhanger, but what a cliffhanger that is!!! I don't think he will shoot Choi Myung Hee, I wonder if he'll warn them the final time, "I can get anywhere you are hiding no matter how tight the security is, so don't try touching someone near me again" kind of thing maybe. But I would not mind seeing Choi Myung Hee dying, although I would love to see her end up in prison. That lady just thinks she is above all, but has been failing miserably all the time. At the same time, she has been scared of Vincenzo since the start, he never failed to terrorize her, be it the truck incident, or sending the pics of dead Italian hitmen to her (she was literally shivering with fear after looking it) or be it now when he showed her firsthand what he is capable of doing.

What I loved was the mother son bonding here. Of course Vincenzo never got the chance to call her mom, but I think he did enough to not regret much. Things got clear between them, he knew she didn't just abandon him for no reason, she actually did it worrying about him if she died due to cancer and that she has regretted doing it all through her life now feeling guilty about it. I really think she also knew Vincenzo was her son, but was just not saying since she was waiting for him to come forward as she felt too ashamed to do it. I was really scared she would die without them going out and spending time together, so even though I am sad about her death, I am happy she was happy in her final days, and think her regrets did become less if not completely vanish.

I look forward to the final showdown between Vincenzo and Babel group. Some development and plot involvement for Jang Han Seo too, poor guy was just either plotting or trying to find ways to survive. But he did a great job by saving the Geumga plaza here. I really wonder if Vincenzo will really give him the Babel group, or ask him to start afresh doing what he loves to do and not what he thinks he is supposed to do. I think Jang Han Seo was never free, and the best ending for him would be for him to be free and doing what he loves doing.

By the way Chingus, the poll is up for this week's episodes, please don't forget to vote :heartxoxo:

    Re: @partyon, @Lmangla

    Thank you for the poll!

I agree. I don't think he will kill them either just because of the simple fact we know we still have 4 episodes left!  i think this will be a "warning" and a vow that he will take them down.

Yes, his mother had certainly already deduced who he really was before this heartbreaking episode.  I think she already knew deep down when he came to visit her in prison.  I'm so glad they at least had this time together :bawling:  Also I have praised SJK's acting but I should also praise Yoon Bok-in for her wonderful acting as Oh Gyeong-ja too.  The BTS from episode 15-16 where both actors were still emotional after filming the photography studio scene shows the depth of their acting.

    Question...

1.what does the name Inzaghi means?

    2. It was obviously 2 different piegons, the one which saved Vincenzo was much chubbier than the one that stayed outside his bedroom window... hehe

The piegon is part of the building residents if one wants to think about it...

Reminds me of my neighbour's wild piegon.. they didnt actually breed it, but every night it would stay stand/sleep? on the window shed alone... looks very lonely, i wonder where its partner is... B)

    1. Pigeon inzaghi appears to be named after the famous italian footballer Filippo Inzaghi

     https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Filippo_Inzaghi

    2. From the BTS saviour Inzaghi is all special effects!  So maybe they used different studios for the different scenes.

The pigeon is more popular than any of the residents according to the results of @Sleepy Owl's poll:lol:

Your neighbour's pigeon should join Inzaghi's gangB)

Just noticed there are some clips shown in the episode 16 preview that we didn’t see yet. At 0:04, we see someone step on the bag of bungeoppang that Vincenzo bought for his mother. We also get Cha Young kneeling by his mother’s bedside (but it’s empty) and looking at the photo of V & his mom. Would there be someone else there working for Babel that came after Vincenzo left? :(

Also saw a photo of sjk and jyb filming by a river. It’s the same location of the photo that was released the other day where everyone wondered whether they were holding hands. They’re seen sitting on the rocks and facing the stream. Someone mentioned Vincenzo is crying but I can’t tell because it’s blurry. Seeing that they’re dressed in black, could it be that’s where he spreads his mother’s ashes? :( Just a thought.

    EDIT: here’s the photo

This hospital needs to sort it's security out if another Babel goon gets in right after someone has been murdered in the room:angry:

@raziela i'm glad that you mention that conversation between VC and Hong Shik. I love that conversation. Although part of me still feel conflicted about it since it means that each of us just need to do well in what we do and not to meddle with others and this world's affair. I need to go back to that scene to digest it.

I rewatched that scene again and transcribed the subtitles.

"Leaving the past behind and becoming a new person.  Forget all that.  Do what you do best.  That's what you can do to help the wold"

I actually understood the conversation differently.  I thought what Hong Sik was saying was more like: Vincenzio shouldn't try to be something he isn't. He can't erase the past so he should use the skills and abilities he has to help others.

I could be misinterpreting.  It's hard for a non-speaker like me because Netflix subtitles leave out a lot of depth and nuance.

Anyhow, I loved that little conversation and insight into Hong-Shik's past.  The actor, Choi Deok Moon, just seems so cool.  I'm glad we finally got a bit of follow-up on his amazing scissr skills. I really would have liked to seen more him in the drama.  I just don't know what the writer was thinking giving the residents so much screen time to just be shallow gag characters for nearly two-thirds of the drama and only starting to develop them from episode 14 out of a 20 episode drama.

The Lee couple are another example.  We only learn in episode 15 that for some reason Mr Lee didn't want to have kids but they have suddenly decided to try for a baby and episode 16 she is pregnant! Huh? Why not mention this childfree issue before?  See them discuss or argue about it? See Yeon-jin chat to Hee Soo or Miri about it?  Literally, these kind of scenes would have taken a couple of minutes and developed and humanised them more than shouting, scheming, pretending to be zombies twice and hunting for gold.

He even DANCE :rage: enjoying their success in killing OKJ.

I think that's one of his biggest assets.  He looks like such a handsome, well-mannered good boy.  Nobody would think badly of him. 15. Episode 16 was phenomenal! WOW! We have to wait two weeks but what an episode to take a break on.

I say this every week but each week Song Joong Ki astonishes me yet again.  Song Joong Ki's acting range and emotions in this episode was just breathtaking.  I really hope he is at least nominated for a Baeksang award.  He deserves some awards recognition and TVN don't have an award ceremony.

Every single scene with Vincenzo's mother had me teary-eyed today. Their scenes together were heartbreaking.

    giphy.gif

i can't believe they really killed Vincenzo's mama off!:bawling::bawling::bawling:  I thought maybe they would abduct her something but I didn't think the drama would be cruel enough to kill her off.  How much pain has this woman gone through in her life?

    Lung cancer

Forced to give her son up and was unable to find him

    Sexually harassed

Falsely accused and imprisoned for life

The family continues to harass her

    Pancreatic cancer

Lives a lonely life filled with guilt for losing her son

Finally reunites with her son and she is murdered in cold blood
:crybaby:Thank you so much to Cha Young for helping them to spend time together and take those precious pictures before the end.  At least they had a chance to make those precious, happy memories.

    Tonight’s episode was :onfirex:

SJK’s acting is amazing!! He’s got the look to kill (both physically and literally) with fire spewing from his eyes. Just what were psychopath Han Seok and Myung Hee thinking killing his mother? No good could come from that. They should run right about now.

    Spoiler

The thing with the villains of this drama is they’re not smart nor strategic. They always resort to one method to hopefully solve all their problems and that’s murder. Just scums with no moral compass. They don’t actually have any brain power which makes sense why they’re no match for Vincenzo. I honestly can entertain the idea of Vincenzo killing them off now but of course we still have 4 episodes left so that won’t happen. But boy would it be satisfying for me!

Vincenzo really needed a hug. :tears: But I love how understanding and supportive Cha Young always is. She always has an accurate read on him and so down with his antics. She deserves an appreciation post! Telling him to go make them pay. She‘s always there to back him up when he needs her and doesn’t try to stand in his way, ever. Like the saying goes, behind every successful man is a strong woman. She truly is his rock. Her effort to mend his relationship with his mother is so sweet. Thanks to her, he was able to make some memories. :bawling:  And while they never spoke directly as mother and son, I’m happy they were able to have the conversations they did. Vincenzo and Cha Young better be endgame!! She’s all he’s got, wholeheartedly.

Like some have mentioned, I’m starting to grow fond of the tenants (though small doses of them is preferred since time is of the essence and I rather see V+CY onscreen ). But I’m happy Vincenzo have people on his side who’s like family. I actually quite love the bye bye balloon trio. Their onscreen presence is always hilarious and not as irritating as some others. They were the comedic relief in this episode before it went dark and I lol’d at Vincenzo not wanting to be their model but simultaneously being their model.

Two weeks is going to be a long time. But I can assure you all it’s going to be worth the wait!

Great post!  Remember Cha Young said Myung Hee uses such old-fashioned methods and it's true.  No finesse. It's all murder, violence and thugs.  She is so despicable she makes a cowardly, suck-up sycophant snake like Seung-hyuk look angelic in comparison.

Always here for a Cha Young appreciation post.  i really love their dynamic and that she is so understanding of his feelings and the way he thinks.  Most of all that she doesn't reject his Mafia side.  i think that is going to be an important part of Vincenzo's character development especially after his talk with Hong Sik (so glad he finally got some character development).  He needs to embrace that part of himself rather than try to erase it.  i wonder if that means we will have Mafia styling Vincenzo back for the rest of the drama?

The Bye Bye Balloon team led by Park Seok Do are the funniest characters for me alongside Mr Nam.  The photoshoot that wasn't a photoshoot was so fun:lol: We know that Vincenzo is actually a bit vain about his good looks so we know he was secretly enjoying it:lol:

The tenants are definitely getting more likeable in their small doses and it's sweet how they have become a little family for Vincenzo.  i just think it's such a shame that the writer waited until three quarters through the drama to make them tolerable and flesh them out a little.

Okay, I see alot of comments about how dumb Han-seok and Myung-hee are to do what they did, and how the villians are stupid, but I think it's absolutely in line with their characters.

Han-seok is a chaebol heir. He was born to privilege. He killed 4 classmates and his father covered it up for him. For his entire life, he has done whatever he wants to do, act impulsively, not give a sh!t, and has come out fine and dandy. He has never had to strategize or think about consequences. It's absolutely on-character for him to take ham-fisted actions and then be utterly shocked when things don't pan out the way they did his entire life.

His brother, Han-seo is actually smarter than Han-seok because he's lived in fear and had to think in order to survive.

This is a great analysis of Han Seok.  Even when he gets really angry and starts smashing things and screaming he is like a brat having a tantrum.  Han Seo might be a bit slow academically but he is clever in his own way because he has had to keep on his toes to survive around his psychopath brother.  I totally understand why he has gravitated towards Vincenzo after years of being terrorised.  Not only is Vincenzo an alpha male who has shown he isn't remotely intimidated by Han Seok but he showed he valued loyalty and family which is a foreign concept to Han Seok.  Not only has Han Seo joined VC's fanclub but I think he is looking a bit at Vincenzo as his saviour - maybe even the older brother he didn't have.  HS felt all these years there was no way out but now here is someone who has the courage and skills to go toe to toe with his brother and take him down.

For an Italian, mother and family are very important, it is not something to joke with, what they thought in ordering such a mess that he would not react, the mafia uses a lot of revenge if you hurt the family even for thinking about it involves a retaliation. But she don't really know how criminal organizations operate? don't exist in Asia? although she is a former prosecutor she has no knowledge of it.

She does not remember the photos she saw, they show that they are dealing with a hitman, not a thief or a bag holder. if he has left his organization then he is like a very dangerous dog. The stepbrother has perfectly understood but they treat him as incapable

All of this!  Even in the Mafia there is an unwritten rule you don't go after family who are not involved in the "business" - especially somebody's mother.  That is the lowest of the low because mothers are considered sacred. Vincenzo always says he won't harm women or children and I think that might be the ONLY thing that will save Myung Hee from getting her evil head blown off.

I just love JYB so much. Her anger towards prosecutor Jo, her facial expression when she reads the letter and when she talks about the regrets towards her father. Her eyes. Indeed her eyes convey lots of emotions.

I enjoy episode 16 despite the lack of progress/continuation in the romance part. Instead i enjoy this more due to the emotional scenes like the one when CY's angry, conversation about his mom in the cafe, and the visit to his mom. It's nice to see some kind of necessary and well executed angst.

Once again i'm left in awe by the writer. His mind. I admire his way in leaving the societal issues in a seemingly light/fun package. It's double edged sword actually because people may not see his intentions due to the other elements like comedy and romance, but once delivered well in the right time when people can sympathize with it, it can raise more awareness from broad viewers.

I find myself tearing up at the conversation between the tenants. Something along this line We've become interested in the things surround us, instead of just being busy living our own life, hence it angers us even when it's not directly related to us. It's just so close to home for me. Maybe because i'm getting old but these words resonate a lot in me. It's easy to ignore the corrupt society when it's already hard enough to make the ends meet. Especially when you see that all efforts will just go in vain because what you'll face in trying to challenge the giants is just another endless suffering.

I agree with @Raynaa that the underlying theme of this drama is people vs the system. All that these talented yet powerless people need is a strong brave intelligent figure to lead and give them the strength and courage that they, despite being armed with only rock and head butting (CY's reference here), can bring down the system. I'm getting more and more interested in how the writer will wrap all this and give us the ending to this war in the promised refreshing way.

Now at the romance part. The kiss in spite of its intensity is still part of an act. None of them has the courage or time to engage themselves in that conversation when things just get messier for them. This whole she likes me-she likes me not will end once one of the two confesses. And the confession will likely happen in either (1) dangerous situation when they feel they may lose each other forever or (2) near the ending when all of this fight has come to an end and they finally get the brief time to breathe.

Excellent post! Agree with everything you said so eloquently.

How does the timeline of shooting for this show work? I don't get it. Episode 16 was filmed a whole month ago, judging from the pre-release clip. How are they going to finish filming Ep 17-20 at this rate? They're going to need more than 2 weeks, even if the cast and crew don't eat and sleep and just film 24/7 (which I hope they aren't).

I actually think from the recent leaked BTS filming pictures that they are at least filming episode 18.

Judging from han seok's cruel past, I think his end can'be just ended up in prison. It's too easy for insane human like him (esp. Not in a country where corruption is prominent). I might say, he fits to be burried somewhere by VC. At least, 1 monster is died, peace can be granted.

Meanwhile, facts about hanseo who feels terrified with his brother and is (or was) into drugs are kinda solidifying my own opinion that han seo indeed intentionally shot han seok by being missed on the critical spot. That particular scene gives me understanding that killing someone is not his method/preference, han seo has softer and sane capacity as a mankind.

Agreed. The drama is making an effort to differentiate between them and humanise Han Seo.

  17. Thanks for explaining about the way they address each other @Slyfindor @bee_wannabe

A very enjoyable Episode 15!  So much happened this episode.

    - Firstly, to my surprise I was right about Inghazi as saviour! @nona88 :lol::lol:  So funny how Vincenzo is all defensive about him.

    - So Paolo did send the assassins. The shadows are back to clean up!  I thought the plot had forgotten about them.

    - Prosecutor Jang betrayal was a surprise.  I guess Vincenzo/Cha Young were right before when they said the whole system was too corrupt.  Even the supposedly good prosecutor turned easily at the prospect of power.  Vincenzo has him on edge now after his visit to his home and family.

    - Poor CY was so upset:tears: Loved how VC tried to comfort her but the conversation between Vincenzo and Cha Young about betrayal makes me scared another betrayal is imminent.

    - really liked the simple way Cha Young revealed she knew about his mum and how she is gently encouraging him to spend time with his mother because she knows how painful than regret can be:tears:  i wonder what was in the letter.

    - wonder what Vincenzo called Luca about?

    - Han Seo visiting his new mancrush and failing the quiz was so funny. I can't help but have a soft spot for his character.  Did anyone see the way Han Seok was looking at HS when his back was turned?  He definitely knows he is plotting against him (thanks to the watch methinks )

    - Well done to everyone who guessed Vincenzo had the Guillotine File all along!:partyblob:

    - really shows how much he trusts the Jipuragi fam that he told them about it.  He clearly doesn't fully trust Mr Cho anymore. Thank goodness he didn't tell him or Prosecutor Jang would know about the file.

    - confirmed Han Seok is a psychopath.  is anybody surprised?

    - good catch @suzy0604 about Hee Soo's special ability possibly being related to her sharp hearing

    - I really like seeing the contrast in their fighting styles when Vincenzo and Mr Cho have a fight scene together

    - I knew they shouldn't have used Geumga Plaza as their shaman base

    - the scene with the first shaman and VC/Me An and Mr Lee intimidating him was so funny , as was Mr Nam's whole shaman look.  i guess he was making use of his special effects skills again:lol::lol::lol:  SJK and JYB looked so beautiful in their hanboks:love:

    - I was not expecting them to kill off the Daily Daechang boss or try to pin it on Vincenzo

    - Babel definitely won this round. Now JJW/Han Seo and Babel know all about the file and gold

    - Very worried now Babel know about Vincenzo's mother:fearful:

Not only was the “love” JJW had for HCY short lived but we still haven’t gotten Cha Young addressing Vincenzo’s killings. Please don’t let this be a plot hole that gets ignored.

We really need them to pick up on this conversation again especially now the villains don't deserve to love conversation was deleted due to the Chinese controversy.

JYB posted this photo of our favorite trio.  For bonus, she included some lovely photos of herself too. She’s so beautiful in hanbok.

Thanks!  Love the Jipuragi trio  I wish JYB could post more Vincenzo related pictures on her IG but I think she is worried about the crazy fans so she rarely does.  At least she sometimes posts Vincenzo related stuff in her IG Story (like this).

I don’t think there was anything overt, but we did have a couple of cute, subdued moments!

    Spoiler

    1) when the geumga plaza family gather around the table to watch the prosecutor’s press conference and discover he’s been bought over to the dark side, CY storms out, and VC is the only one to run after her and try to calm her down. The scene is really reminiscent of the scene when VC airs his frustration with Hong Yoo-chan when papa Hong refuses to leave the explosion site after Babel decides to get rid of all the remaining researchers

    2) thé scène where they were putting names in to decide who was going to play the shaman, while everyone else put in VC (I laughed at « mr. bean » LOL) our lover boy smirked really proudly when Mr. Ahn read CY’s name, then put on an innocent face when she punched him in the shoulder.

    3) after pulling off the first act, CY complains about being tired from exerting too much effort. As soon as she plops down, VC is right there to whip out his fan and fan her, then nonchalantly offers her the flower in his hair (omona)

    4) when CY takes him shopping for a bag for his mom, and gently tells him that she wishes he didn’t live a life of regret for not making up with his mother T__T

they definitely had to pack a lot in today’s episode, so maybe some things were glossed over for the sake of the plot line, but I still have faith that the writers know better than anyone that the only ending that makes sense regarding VC-CY is a happy one where they’re together.

i agree with you.  There isn't really time for them to focus on romantic feelings when there is still so much else going on. I noticed all those cute subtle moments especially the fan and flower:fullofhearts:  If they are not hinting at a romance they definitely could have left out the flower moment^_^

Not sure about where the love line is going but even if the writer did not intend to have a clear love line we are way past that point. The scenes so far can’t be undone they can’t convince the audience that the love doesn’t exist. I don’t think at this point the writer can justify an open ending or an ending where HCY and VC go their own ways. The writer basically has two options to give them a happy ending( hoping, fingers crossed) or show them in love and then kill either or both of them exploring the tragic theme like Italian operas ( I hope not).

Wow I love the Inzaghi plot twist. I was just reading some comments on Instagram and someone mentioned how Inzaghi would have some role to play and I immediately flash backed to VC telling Inzaghi to return the favour for the grains fed. I also googled Inzaghi and came to know that it means bird in Italian but it’s also an Italian surname. There is a footballer by the same surname who is famous for scoring goals but its often said by critics that the goals he scored were not cause of technical expertise but by being at the right place at the right time. And well Inzaghi was at the right place at the right time and just being there with his feather world friends saved his human friend :)

also the questions they asked the younger babel brother about the invisible hand by Adam Smith reminded me of the hand that pulls the strings in the recent pics. Who is the ultimate puppeteer here?

also, In a lot of ways the underlying theme  of the drama reminds me of the people versus the system. The scene from the painting when the plaza residents represented lady Liberty and beat up the goons, today’s discussion by the plaza residents saying how since they are not caught up in their daily fight for bread and butter and have paused to notice the corruption closely they are angered by it. The plaza residents are talented because they represent the general population the low and middle classes that have talent a lot of it but not the means and the opportunity to exploit  it and are instead caught up for the daily bread butter and housing struggle. While the babel brothers despite one being a psychopath and the other being incapable of understanding economics of business are at the helm of a company not paying for any past deeds.

I also feel there is an underlying reference of sorts to money heist ( I can imagine VC singing Bella ciao in Italian if not for music copyrights :P) with the whole protest against the system and the gold plot line and like money heist dropped the notes of money for the people in central madrid they will also distribute the gold back in some way to the people in a Robinhood style move. How much of the gold VC keeps and how they manage to escape ( hoping they do) remains to be seen. Hoping the balloon company helps in the escape and that plot is not a filler.

Great, insightful post!  There is definitely a more serious underlying theme.  i think this also comes back to  what @suzy0604 said about how Team Vincenzo's victories are usually relatively small compared to the big blows landed by Team Babel.  It is the little people vs the big corporation that has money, the system and every advantage on its side.

I know i said I preferred his Mafia styling but I actually really liked Vincenzo's more casual styling with the slightly wavy fringe this episode.  SJK looked great.  I think I just wasn't a fan of so many turtle neck tops last week lol!

In the preview for the upcoming episode Vincenzo's Mafia hair is back so seems something serious will trigger him back to cold Mafia beast mode:scream:

People are getting faster in uploading and translating the pre release clip. I guess it just shows how this drama is getting more and more attention from people compared to earlier episodes.

CY calls VC "cassano" without 씨 or 님 the honorific. I call that progression. Yes, i'm easy to please :D. Now i'll be waiting for VC to call CY "cha youngie" or "cha youngah". I've seen the later being mentioned in making video, but greedy me need the actual scene in the drama. I find these nuances in korean quite interesting, you can see how a relationship progress just by the way they talk to/call each other.

SJK looks really good in this look:love:  He was the one who voted for CY :D

Thank you for explaining.  ! find these nuances in the language fascinating too.  How was she referring to him before?  What exactly does he call her? The English subtitles on Netflix aren't accurate with korean honorifics as they usually default to Mr/Ms.

I'm a bit conflicted about HS. I know he's corrupted soul due to the environment he's living. But still he has no problem in bringing harm to the babel victim's family. And i still cant compromise that act of his. Yes this topic is a bit grey, because to be fair, VC did kill people, and HS only exposed the babel victim identity, the one who conduct the plan is still JW and his men. But still.. If he ever gets to go to the good side hope he still has this act of redemption/remorse of what he's done before.

Is there anyone that feels JW-CY arc just evaporates way too fast and easily. I don't want unnecessary love triangle, but from the way they emphasize JW's affection towards CY in first episodes get me thinking that it will play bigger role in the drama. But then it just brushes away so easily and now the dynamics change to JW-MH instead.

I can't help but have some sympathy for HS due to his upbringing and I don't think he is inherently a bad person but I agree that he still needs to show genuine remorse and see some redemption. Maybe a lighter sentence if he goes to prison?

I totally agree about JW-CY.  It's just been shoved aside.  JYB and Taecyeon had really nice chemistry in their scenes together too.  It's  a shame because I think it would have fleshed out the character of JJW and made his relationship with CY and Vincenzo more dynamic.  it would also have been an interesting story arc for CY and I wouldn't mind seeing jealous Vincenzo^_^  I get the feeling there have been some significant rewrites for Taecyeon's character from how it was originally envisaged.  Remember the original synopsis was that he would work with VC and HCY and the actors mentioned how their relationship would be explored.  I definitely think part of it was the early reveal.  I still think if not for the casting  leak there would probably have been a plot where he was working with them and the twist would have been even more of a betrayal.

Not many people have mentioned this, but I was laughing at HOW INTO the part of Miss Benning CY got. While VC looked like he wanted to crawl out of his skin during the proposal, CY was totally unfazed and playing up the theatrics.

Her father was right. Maybe CY's true calling is to be an actress.

LMAO!  This! CY was having so much fun during the proposal.  I was laughing when she was pretending she was thinking about it and her dramatic acceptance.  And the way she presented her hand for the ring:lol:  I love her:lol:

  20.  Just re-watched ep 14 before this weekend's episodes.  A few more very random thoughts:

    - Something I noticed in Episode 14 is that Vincenzo refers to himself as scum or scumbag more than once.  Sometimes it is in humour like when he is guilt-tripping the tenants but it seems like he really believes it like when they are in the interrogation room with the Wusan/Babel team.  He really has a low opinion of himself because fo his past:tears:

    - the little stand-off between Cha Young and HS about who is older was hilarious. Especially the way you can see Han Seok doing the maths in his head:lol: Cha Young defended her partner and HCY/VC's little thumbs up press when she won!

    - Vincenzo is definitely a lot more playful now.  The way he teases Han Seung-hyuk when he is leaving the interrogation room and Seung-hyuk's reaction.   Jo Han Chul is so funny.

    - Han seok tried to take the blame for the anti-Union activities to show his loyalty and I guess "pay his debt".  Which is going to be useless because I'm pretty sure the watch Han Seok gave him is bugges so his brother will know all about his scheming behind his back anyway.

    - What is M Cho up to with the prosecutor?  When he spoke to Vincenzo it seemed like he didn't have a plan about who he would sell to but, clearly, he was already working with the prosecutor.

    - Vincenzo and Cha Young are like a married couple whenever they visit his mother.  She was like an embarassed wife when she was apologising to the doctors after Vincenzo shouted at them or this episode when she tells Vincenzo to give Ms Oh "our gift"^_^

    - Mr Nam's obvious disdain for the Bye Bye Balloon guys and Cheol Woo fail attempt to copy Vincenzo's lighter trick during the pepper paper company presentation:lol:

    - The trot club scenes were fun as we saw Cha Young getting Vincenzo to dance and sway to the music. :happydance: She is the only one he would do that for!  I didn't recognise "Singing Mr Na" at first but I saw another post that he was the guy sent by Babel to buy the building originally.  I really like the character detail whenever they have these scenes Vincenzo is always roaming around the room restlessly, taking everything in.  It's a twofold tactic: it makes the person being interrogated feel nervous, Vincenzo might find some information or clues.

    - Finally, we got some background on Mi Ri. She was cool this episode showing her abilities.  A pity they didn't bother to develop Hong Sik and his abilities at all.  I thought all the residents had special abilities but now I am not so sure.  Surely we would have seen Hee So's this episode if she had one.

    - The tenants apologised and started to be quite sweet and helpful.  I do wonder if this change in attitude was a rewrite to make them more appealing. Episode 14 was filming about 3 weeks after the drama premiered when they would have seen the negative viewer feedback about the tenants.

    - Vincenzo taking Cha Young shopping was cute PPL.  I loved the outfit he "chose".  He was so smooth with the jewellery:kiss_wink:

    - Nice the American couple enjoyed their fun Korean tour even though their reservations and identities were stolen.  I hope they get their ring back!

    - Cha Young attempting to speak poor Korean with an American accent and using random English words was hilarious:lol::lol::lol: Actress-lawyer Hong Cha Young was really enjoying playing the part of Miss Bening

    - I know I have written a whole post about the kiss already but anoher thing I noticed when rewatching:  after their kiss Vincenzo is still dazed, unable to tear his gaze away from CY.  Then she calls him "darling" and he blinks like he has woken up and remembered they are playing a role. Both their acting before, during and after the kiss is so nuanced:fullofhearts:

    - CY and Vincenzo mistaking the lamp for the priceless art work and the priceless artwork for a mat:lol:

    - Hee So and the chewed gum:lol: The Geumga ladies looked great and their distractions were hilarious.  You can tell from their IG posts the ladies liked getting dressed up compared to their character's usual plain outfits

-I wasn't expecting them to pretend to be Italian special agents.  So funny how CY's Italian was "Mamma Mia" :lol:Cha Young's thigh holster and Vincenzo's reaction:o

    - What happened to Vincenzo's shadows?  Shouldn't they have been watching the Plaza?

Can someone enlightened me what bed scene that jyb did? What movie?

I guess since SJK has chaotic friend, LKS so its understandable that he too can be so comfortable with JYB which we know is chaotic too :joy: bestie

She seems like a fun person but I don't think JYB herself is chaotic. She just really absorbs her characters when she is playing them.

In answer to your question, she has a passionate make out scene and they end up in bed in Be Melodramatic but it isn't really a bed scene IMO. I have posted the video of the scene below.

WARNING: there is a huge and emotional SPOILER in this scene just in case you plan to watch this drama later. The drama is highly recommended.

Btw do you guys notice how naturally touchy SJK and JYB are off-cam? Some fans with sharp eyes caught them having plenty unscripted skinship.

    - After Vincenzo put on a show in front of the tenants saying there’s no need to trust a dirty mafia like him and the trio leave and are snuck up by the piano girl, you can see SJK’s hand land on JYB’s back naturally.
    - After Vincenzo take Cha Young outfit shopping for their little skit, we get a long shot of them in the jewelry shop. JYB can be seen hugging SJK’s arm. Note this is before they are required to play couple. Also we can see she’s in her platform shoes and not her heels so it was probably them rehearsing. ^_^
    - When they go to the karaoke bar, they grab each other’s hand and do a twirl. This looks like an ad lib because JYB can be seen breaking out of character. Also they’ve done this in the bts so I assume they do this frequently.

They seem to be very comfortable with each other which really helps with their amazing onscreen chemistry.  The dancing in the club was totally SJK/JYB having fun together rather than VC/HCY!

Guys, I think Vincenzo actually has the guillotine file. Upon rewatching episode 13, the scene where he remembers dropping the gold bar containing the usb, when the bar hits the floor and the lid comes off there’s nothing in the gold bar. You can’t see it pop out of the gold bar or see it on the floor from above. I replayed it several times and the guillotine usb isn’t seen at all, only the lid comes off and drops and the usb(which we should be able to see because of it’s colour) can’t be seen at all. Maybe he is keeping it and going through to see what he can use it for??

Even if the guillotine file is still in the chamber, that means either Vincenzo or Mr Cho has to be the first to enter the basement again when they open it to get the file and gold.  It seems we will see the gallery director in the next episode

Good spot! If he has the file (or can get to it first) then he has the ultimate bargaining chip.

Appreciation post for Hong Cha Young/Jeon Yeo Been's incredible mane of glory.  She has the most beautiful hair   From this hypnotic gif you can see how long her hair has grown since the start of Vincenzo:dizzy:
