I think KWB did well in that situation. He had 2 options: 1. Kill KYJ because he made the mistake (it's a mistake, not a betrayal like the guy in first ep). 2. Have mercy on KYJ, which would create great loyalty from him later.

And he chose the 2nd option. If he chose the 1st option which would strengthen Heroic's rule: "you go against Heroic's rule, you die", but on the other hand, it will also create fears among the members. Loyalty can be created from fear or mercy, I think it's KWB's case, mercy is a better option. He hasn't real power yet to rule based on fear.

This incident shows that heroic's members are human, they're not robots... I can totally feel KYJ when he risked his life to meet his wife on her birthday. In this week's ep, I also see KWB's human side. When Nam Ok asked him to get rid of KYJ because KYJ is Tae-joon's person, not Heroic's, KWB told Nam Ok that KYJ had nowhere to go, so just let Heroic be his home. Of course, it's better to keep KYJ in watch, if he wanders outside, he's probably caught and cause trouble to Heroic.

I get that, I am not questioning KWB's actions, but Nam Ok's mindset, will Nam Ok or is Nam Ok really ok with that decision? He seemed to have accepted it at the moment but is there a lingering doubt in his mind? That is what am asking. Maybe not, maybe yes... we shall see

Why do they only have the drama episodes only on Saturdays? Couldn't they have episodes on Sundays too? This is getting good especially when the 2 lead guys who are enemies have faced the other.... and is a long way to Saturdy LOL

Aren’t they so cute smiling at each other?  Their faces are baby-ish.  Adorable.

I think it's understandable if later Miki shows her jealousy or even hatred towards LYJ. Because they are both adopted, but the ways they're raised are totally different. While LYJ is well educated and promoted, Miki is just a vase of flowers to decorate her father's image. It's also the reason why Fukuda is attracted by LYJ, not Miki. I feel bad for Miki at the ceremony when most of ppl gawked at her on stage, Fukuda only had LYJ in his eyes.

Glad you said so.  I honestly expecting you to berate her if she’s jealous or hostile towards YJ later, according to your post about Miki before the drama starts.  What a relief now.

Remember the rumored script before the drama was aired? it's said that Miki is LYJ's best friend (LOL) but when she discovered that her crush Fukuda loves LYJ, their relationship changes, and Miki becomes a time-bomb for LYJ. What the heck? :D this is the reason why I thought I would dislike Miki if she's a threat to LYJ only because of a man, considering their long-time bestie relationship.

News even described Fukuda as LYJ's childhood friend, who always takes care of her and gradually falls in love with her. What the... ? :sweatingbullets:

After being fooled many times before, I remind myself to not trust any rumored sources before the drama is aired, but I till fall into their trap. Duh...

Assuming Miki would still threaten/betray YJ later coz of a man, are you OK with that as well?

Not sure about the news regarding Fukuda & YJ are childhood friends, but I actually had speculated about it.  Maybe you heard it from me.

I haven't catch up entirely on the thread so i'll come back later to react to few comments.

Few thoughts on  episodes 7 or 13-14: sorry for the long post!

I was very impatient to see my drama back and i wasn't disappointed. It was a thrilling hour on all fronts!:w00t:

If Ep 5-6 and its trip to Manchuria ended for me on a high note on many levels,  this follow up was a turnaround that felt like a harsh return to reality.

It's one thing for Won Bong (with his team) and Young Jin to roam freely rural China and punish gangs who work with the japanese colonizers and another to live under the eye of the enemy and to be forced to hide to survive. The easiest way of life between both is surprisingly not the one i would have thought.

In ep5/6, our main heroes looked so powerful: it was as if they could take on anyone and nobody could stop them. This week, they met an  enemy who is unlike all those they fought in Manchuria.  Fukuda OWNED this episode dedicated to his rise and the birth of the new hierarchy of the secret police that he's etablishing in authoritarian ways, and it was indeed scary to witness.

I have to commend LJH's acting here; he nailed every scene in which he was and made me anticipate with real excitation Fukuda's scenes.

Until now and thanks to the immense charm of LJH, Fukuda didn't look to me ready  to challenge/ confront Kim Won Bong, to avoid being manipulated by Young Jin or to contain Matsuura. I don't mean he seemed weak: he always has been a member of the secret police but to watch him being played by Young Jin in Manchuria or teased endlessly by Miki, made me forget how dangerous he could be.

LJH's talent and baby face made him likable, so before those last episodes i had few scenarios in my mind on how he could potentially side with our heroes, how he could be "saved "by his love for Young Jin: i even imagine that he could marry her, learn about  her secret and still decide to protect her. That would have been a hell of character development for him.

But now it feels like the writer dropped the mic and i won't able to not take as face value what happened in this episode: he upped his game on the professional and personal fronts and acted in a manipulative, controlling, ruthless way, toying with his targets. Enjoying himself to the point he seemed needlessly cruel.

In his scenes with Matsuura,

I agree, when he told Matsuura that skinning a beast without blood is what an expert does, I somehow felt afraid of him

  • the most striking part was their dialogues: This line totally made me shiver. I couldn't stop thinking about it while watching the scene in the tailorshop, when he met Kim Won Bong and his team. I felt like this line was the message sent everytime he looked at our heroic leader.
  • The second intense  moment was when he caught the secretary of Oda: he has no pity at all for the girl and no remorse to let her alone with Matsuura knowing he will certainly turn on her. I don't think we'll we see her again and the fact that we know nothing about her future makes me expect the worst and make his actions a lot more sinister.

As scary as they were, i think he had his best scenes with Kim Won Bong and Young Jin. I truly enjoyed  the way the writer and the PD managed to packed their scenes with information and tension with minimal dialogues. It also worked well thanks to our excellent cast

With Kim Won Bong, the confrontation was half in the light: Fukuda went into Kim Won Bong's territory/the shop  as a sort of provocation and half in the shadow since everything said was polite on the surface, enlightened by  his calm attitude and the smirk that never leaved his face. But he was clearly on full hunting mode, sizing up  his rival, half convinced that his preys didn't know who he was and what was happening, half hoping and enjoying the idea that his well known name could panick them.

Source: Dramasandchips

I hated how he looked at our Heroic Corps team as if they were already in his hands and  he was making plans for each one: Jeong Im and Majar looked suddenly too young and innocent for this torture and killing game, and like i said before the line about skinning a beast  seemed clearly meant for Kim Won Bong.

As expected from a great leader, he was not impressed by this unexpected intrusion, so he's truly ready for anything and i loved that. I wonder if he made the connection between this visit and the man who followed Young Jin during their date because he was convinced that she was followed by the Korean Patriotic Corps ("i dont trust the side you are on", "this man who is following you from the shop knows you").

Both men had pieces of information making each of them thinking he had the upper hand, creating a competition  uncertain when it comes to its result.

With Young Jin, i saw two Fukuda, interacting  with only one women: Bluebird (she's always on spy mode with him, never let her guard down, giving him half truth and half lies).

The man in love and the chief of secret police were two separate persons though they are starting to converge.

At first, he tried to meet her at the hospital because he couldn't bear anymore to not see/talk to her (the edit was funny: his previous scene was with Miki forcing him to smile, and it looked he was running from her) and it was his jealousy when he surprised her with Kim Won Bong that spurred his decision to spy on her.

But after his visit to the shop and during their date,  the questions he asked showed he had clearly one more motive: to confirm his suspicions that something is wrong about  Kim Won Bong and arrest him if true.

This triangle is showing mutiple layers, each one feeding the others and the only certitude is that it won't end well for anyone.

Other highlight of the episode: Hiroshi who never ceases to surprise me. This time, it was his fascination for the Count, one of the most despicable character showed this far. Honestly, it lead me to reconsider my theories about him: i can't imagine  anymore for him a connection with the resistance. The way he closed his eyes on Count's Noda betrayal of his country and stayed fixed on the idea that he should be supported because he's influential to the next governor isn't pragmatism but real opportunism. He'll support every side as long as it benefits his interest.

I was truly scared by the way he ordered Young Jin around: picking the dress for her, pushing on her the position of Vice Director despite her statement that she doesn't want it, shutting her before she can express any negative feelings about dating Fukuda.

He made himself clear she should date him with marriage in mind (!), which means that he's letting her time to get used to the idea but the decision has been already made for her by arrangement between the two men.  Hiroshi's ambition and Fukuda's obsessive feelings for her have trapped our spy heroine in a really complicated situation. She will need all Kim Won Bong's support (and we know he's very good at supporting his people) to endure it.

Thus, i don't buy the scene in the car between the father and the daughter: a true father would have sacrifice his need to be reassured and would have never asked this selfish question. He knows how difficult her life still is: her parents were killed because of the war, and she's forced to live with the killers. No matter how much material comfort and entertaining travels he gave her, this wound can not be healed. I felt that  he just wanted to be praised for his good actions and basically forced her to show gratefulness, to fulfill his ego and his emotional needs.

The sad thing is that he has a real and strong attachment to her proved by his tears, but he just doesn't realize that it's not something to use like he uses all his connections and relationships. I think she resented him for that and her fading smile when she turned away proved it.

On the shipping front: it's becoming an endless queue of one sided love. Miki is madly attracted to Fukuda who lives and breath only for Young Jin who tries desperately to prove herself worth of Kim Won Bong's trust, but for our leader the biggest love in his life is Joseon, independence and his team (i ship that fiercely more than our main couple, though i adore them ).

The mutual attraction between Kim Won Bong and Young Jin is more and more problematic: it pushed them to want to work together, to bring closer their organizations but in the process it's weakening them:

  • It feeds all the insecurities of his team: Nam Ok is starting to be suspicious of Won Bong's commitment, Jeong Im's jealousy is showing and we learnt in this episode that when it comes to love her advices/reactions can lead to disastrous effects, endangering everyone ( i can't forget that Kim Won Bong told her that she has a central role for their little team).
  • It put Young Jin on the radar of Fukuda, who is intrigued by her connection to the tailorshop.

By the way, it's my perception but Young Jin's feelings seem confirmed to me with the entirety of her date with Kim Won Bong,  and of their conversation being shown this time. It  can seems strangely careless, but she really went to the shop with no professional goal in mind. She just wanted to take a look at Kim Won Bong's new place, meet him, asked him about his whereabouts since China. She should have waited Kim Gu's new instructions before trying any type of contact but she didn't think at all: never imagined that she could be followed, that she could attracted attention on him. For me, that's the effect of being high on love.

And there's Fukuda's feelings: i felt they were transformed in nature and reached a new level of intensity.  It's not anymore  the pure puppy love of the 1st stage of their relationship.  Her beauty still took away his breath but his mindset has changed after being deeply hurt by her rejection and forced to recognized that it's unrequited love (his face became so hard when Miki pointed this truth).

What i see when i watch him staring at her  during the hospital's event  is obsession and possessiveness.  It's all in his attitude: the intrusive way in which he requested her attention, invading her personal space, publicly/in front of all the guests as if as if he was claiming his right on her.

And jealousy, a lot of jealousy for Kim Won Bong.

But the most threatening thing for me is the extent of the actions he's able to do in the name of his love for her: he decided to take control over Matsuura's new secret unit only because he wanted to protect her from an arrest, win back her trust and prove himself to her father worthy of a relationship. But things are drifting away: he's now just enjoying the control he has over things. An also over her: It all started in her interest but it's now used to forced her to date him and he didn't even deny influencing Hiroshi, meaning he fully assumes his actions.

Stopping now because this post would otherwise have no end. Sorry again!

When i started the drama i was definitively in adoration of Lee Young Jin and Lee Yon Won the actress who plays her so brilliantly.

I still love her but  my allegiance have shifted a bit because of this man:  Yoo Ji Tae and the charismatic character Kim Wong Bong that he portrays. This type of revolutionary leader have always fascinated me because of the way their projects and achievements are a combination of three levels of elements that are for me the most important to reach in life: vision, values and ethics and action.

This version of Kim Won Bong is definitively more of man of action than an intellectual, but he's not addicted to it and carefully plan everything he does because he has a vision of the futur of Korea that he wants to create.

He's a man of moral, who values fiercely loyalty and would never abandon anyone on his side or not. Just because people are not Heroic Corps that doesn't mean that he won't risk his life to save them, or welcome them if they have nowhere to go.

But his moral is a moral in time of war and a harsh one : he punishes betrayal by death and carries himself the sentence, even when he's close to the man that he supposed to kill.

Which lead him often to impossible dilemmas where his empathy and his attachments to his people ended getting in the way of his goals of even worst of his responsabilities.

He abandoned everything : his own parents, hope of making his own family one day, security, possessions, romantic love to follow the fight he picked for himself, because life is absolute for him: it's  either one thing (fighting) or another (living a normal life). But that passion makes him also an extreme man, dangerous for  himself and for the people around him.

I'm madly in love with this vid

I'm obsessed with this man and this drama. He is just full of charisma and sexiness. Also the drama's story and development are so good, so please watch it! I don't why i feel it's underrated even though the cast is well known and are such good actors.

I can't agree more: he's charisma and sexiness made human!

The song is so powerful and fits him like a glove.

The scenes chosen matched very well the song.

And the editing is incredible: blending all the action in a dynamic and fluid way.

I can't stop myself to watch it!

 The lyrics:

Quote
Didn't know when the time is loose
I shoot the sheriff and it's sleeping loose
The lying never been a friend of mine
I will kill again to keep them doing time
You should never ever trust my kind
I'm a wanted man
I got blood on my hands
Do you understand
I'm wanted man
I took the pistol and I've shoot all the lights
I started living in the middle of the night
Lying never been a friend of mine
I will kill again to keep them doing time
You should never ever trust my kind
I'm a wanted man
I got blood on my hands
Do you understand
I'm wanted man
I'm a wanted man
I got blood on my hands
Do you understand
I'm wanted man
If you ask me to teach
I don't know, if I can
I'll always be, who I am
I'm a wanted man
I got blood on my hands
Do you understand
I'm wanted man
I'm a wanted man
I got blood on my hands
Do you understand
I'm wanted man
I'm a wanted man
I'm a wanted man
Do you understand
I'm wanted man

You don't know what you just did to my life by sharing this vid: i'm watching on a loop because it's just MINDBLOWING!:w00t:

The editing is on another level: the scenes, the carefully chosen lyrics, the colors and light made it like a 3:06 min's film.

And the song is magical, rythmically reflecting  the nature of their relationship: soulful, haunting, sensual, sad, full of tension and frustration, longing and repressed attraction! :bawling:

It's killing me how much i adore this couple and the vid makes it even worse. :tears::heartbreak:

Thank you so much for sharing! I'll play it until next saturday comes with hopefully more scenes for this perfect otp!

"Holding Back" Lyrics

Lyves

Fell asleep, I'm older
In the mirror I grew colder
Who is she I keep wondering
Ease the pain, keep me talking

It's like you're holding back
And I'm crying out
It's like you're holding back
And I'm crying out

And I'm crying out
You spread like water
Spread like water
Spread like water through me
With no trust, no heart, we drift apart

This ain't no love
What did you think I'd take it up
Two lies written from two worlds apart
Go easy on me

Fell asleep, I'm older
In the mirror I grew colder
Who is she I keep wondering
Ease the pain, keep me talking

And I'm crying out
You spread like water
Spread like water (And I'm crying out)
Spread like water through me (No heart, we drift apart)
Spread like water through... (And I'm crying out)
Spread like water

But when it's good it's good (Spread like water)
But when it's good it's good... (When your heart...) (Spread like water)
But when it's good it's good
(Spread like water)
But when it's good it's good

I know you should
I know you should
I know you should

@loversbridge i'm definitively going to check and wait for more! It felt like a teaser: once you taste it, you become greedy!

To promote the drama,  I was using my words until now but i think it's time to update my arguments!

Honestly they look so good together, that it should be at the least intriguing for potential viewers.

And i would add too the 1st trailers which were really well done!

I'm glad that Fukuda was more confident and determined in ep 13-14. He gave real slap to Matsuraa, haha. LYJ's relationship with him saddened me a bit... he's wholeheartedly devoted to her. He was smart and cunning elsewhere but totally a fool in front of her. But she wasn't even honest with him. Can't blame her for that. Being spy is not an easy job... but what is your real feeling, LYJ? I wanna know.

Go, Fukuda, go get your girl ! Although I don't sail any ship in DD, I'm kinda biased towards Fukuda and LYJ ship. I favor the odd

Love Fukuda's wicked smile too. Fukuda is sincerely in love with YJ and he really acts a gentleman. In earlier eps, he looked like he gives YJ some latitude and acts like he truly does not know anything about her, however in their conversations, even if he is respectful and tries to win YJ's trust, I think that he is not that fool of a man. He said to her that "there comes a time that I will want to fully trust someone without conditions" and he said he did not ask about Manchuria because it was YJ who told him first. I think he wants to trust her but something in his expression tells me he is wary. He asked about the Man who accompanied YJ to Manchuria and said his imformant told him that he could be a spy from US or Russia and YJ said that the man was a medical supplier. Fukuda then says, introduce me sometime. There was a slight change in  YJ's face and she covered it by sipping tea then when she put the tea down she smiled again innocently. I also think that YJ can't be honest with him being that they are on opposite sides of the conflict. Fukuda tries to be honest while trying to woo her and tries to protect her but he is also a pragmatic and smart man. There will come a time when he will have to choose between his country and YJ. Which will he betray. I love how he stared with admiration at YJ wearing a Japanese Kimono, ahhhh if only they were not enemies and how he approached her and asked her to walk the gardens with him.  There is no aggression or force, it is what a man does when asking to be alone with someone he cares about and YJ knows she can always refuse. YJ is not a woman who lets herself be dominated either. They both know that marriage idea (daddy's) is on the table and waiting for YJ's acceptance. YJ has other plans and she wants to re-organize the running of the hospital. I think it will be Fukuda who will hurt most when his courtship is rejected because he sincerely respects and loves YJ while YJ's dedication is to her mission and Fukuda is the enemy occupier of her country. It will be interesting. I still am not too clear about Hiroshi. Definitely he is ambitious but what his goals are, I still am not sure.

@zenya22 You make a really good point about Fukada not trusting YJ completely when she told him about KWB and Manchuria. He was acting very ambiguous there, and he doesn't outright say anything that confirm or deny whether he believes what she says or not. I don't know whether he is suspicious of YJ yet but he is definitely hyper aware of KWB because of the reports that he's a spy that's been hanging around YJ.

The thing about WB's cover or what YJ told him that WB is a medical supplier is somewhat thin. Fukuda has followed WB to the boutique and also sees WB hanging out at the boutique as if he is the boss when Fukuda went to get himself measured for a suit. The boutique is also a new business. When Seung Jin was chased by the Japanese police he disappeared around where the boutique was or where their hideout was. Fukuda is also now Matsuura's boss and the people working for Matsuura. Fukuda may order Matsuura and his men to stake the place more closely.

@QSDI think YJ's mission orders is to assist WB kill the count, but she is not to participate in any WB's corp activities' massive hostile attacks such as the blowing up of the government buildings because many people including Korean citizens working there will die and the neighboring buildings, businesses and houses will be destroyed depending on how big the bomb is and does not want Bluebird to get hurt because she has a bigger mission?  Who is this boss who gives orders to Bluebird?

I agree with your thoughts that Bluebird's mission does not exactly jell with WB's because for her, ending the war with minimal collateral damage to people defines her mission. She is a doctor afterall. It will be interesting to see a clash between WB and YJ and Nam Ok's reaction on how WB handles Bluebird. The YJ/WB has holes in it too. It is not smooth sailing and I support Bluebird. Just my thoughts.

I still have my suspicions about who Hiroshi is and his goals. When Oda asked Hiroshi who is stronger the one who survived the fight or the one who fights to survive and Hiroshi's answer "if you still asking the question, then your position will be end." Which side is Hiroshi on?

Seeing how controlling Hiroshi is from what dress YJ has to wear, how her career should move up, and who she should marry to for her love life,  I’ve recalled the scene in ep 5(9-10) towards the end where YJ saying the day she took Hiroshi’s hand, her soul is locked in a glass case (Hani Doll).  It’s a choice she made to survive, whether as a Japanese or Korean.  So it doesn’t really matter she chose as a spy for her origin country since she couldn’t get out from his palms.  Although YJ isn’t physically abused by Hiroshi, her soul is tormented by him throughout.  He’s one scary man.  Don’t know how if she would be able to get out of his hands later.  It won’t be without scratches.

I think the orders were sent by her boss Kim Gu.  And yes, I think YJ's mission is to get as much info as possible from high-ranking officials, hence she's now reorganizing the hospital by sending out notifications to the officials at The Governor Office for regular checkups.  She certainly wouldn’t want KWB to blow it up.

Regarding to the question by Oda, I believe Hiroshi would choose the strong one is the survivor since he supports Count Noda, who is a powerful man.  I won't be surprised if the next goal for Hiroshi is the Governor of Governor Office position.  It seems like he wants YJ to follow his steps as well, from doctor to Vice-Director.
