booho
Btw guys, i just read a news that Seo Da Young is REAL in South Korea Army http://kpopherald.koreaherald.com/view.php?ud=201604101509444991625_2 Korean Special Warfare Command Master Sgt. Seo Dae-young, depicted in megahit drama “Descendants of the Sun,” exists in real life. “Thanks to the series, I became very famous in the brigade” said Seo, enjoying the limelight as actor Jin Goo plays a character of the same name in the drama. Yonhap News Agency ran a Seo’s profile Sunday, saying in real life he is as committed as the drama character. Seo, 30, belongs to 1st Airborne Brigade of the Republic of Korea Special Warfare Command. Special Forces Master Sgt. Seo Dae-young (Yonhap) The name, rank, the command assigned to are not the only similarities. Seo in real life was stationed in Iraq in 2006, just as the drama character was dispatched to the faraway nation Uruk. Seo in real life also fell in love with a soldier. The difference is, he tied the knot with the soldier -- Sgt. 1st Class Seo Ar-i -- unlike the drama character, who had no choice but to break up with First Lt. Yoon Myung-joo. Jin Goo acting Special Forces Master Sgt. Seo Dae-young (KBS 2TV) Seo has been recognized as a model soldier for the feats and acts of goodwill toward civilians, according to Yonhap.“I am proud of my black beret, symbol of Special Forces soldiers,” Seo said. “I will dedicate myself to serve for my country.” By Son Ji-hyoung (json@heraldcorp.com)

GeeKeR
Not sure if this has been asked, but I don't really want to flip through a thousand pages of comments and a search doesn't show anything so here goes. Anyone know if there is a list of all product placements from the drama? I really want to know what the headphones Shi-Jin has during the wheelchair scene and Chun-Soo (I think they were the same headphones) has on during the last episode when he's trying to hear for Blackie's real name. Thanks.

Popular Post annettegatuslao
12 hours ago, mesaya said: It’s very late, but whuaaaa…. I really wished DotS extended to 20 episodes. So, the writers & director would have more time to tell SJ & MY and all the characters’ stories. Episode 1 – 12 told about the back ground, build the characters and their relationship in the hardest time (earth quake, epidemic virus, human trafficking, diamond’s smuggling, etc…) and 4 latest episodes were to show how to fit back to “normal” life at the homeland. 4 episodes – 1 closing = 3 episodes to describe everyday living while still doing department store’s tasking and ended up missing for a year were not sufficient enough. That’s not too much airtime. So, no wonder we got lots of loopholes in those episodes. I don’t blame the writers to try to depict a span of 1.1 – 1.3 years into 3x55 minutes of airtime (165 minutes). I don’t know how many months since Alpha team back from Uruk to the time SJ had to do the latest shopping? I also don’t blame some of us who really loved the drama but felt that it could be better written and that the episode 12 was the better closing. I still love this drama to pieces. I forever love the ending and I could build my own fantasy about how episodes 13 – 15 should be played, like an extension of this drama with my own version (maybe @Gilawan can also write them beautifully). Why? This is a drama where all the characters are fit in their places and most of them are loveable, to the point that you can’t even hate Argus or Manager Jin that much. Without the bad guys, the good guys won’t shine. On the other hand, I love that this drama also contradicts that cliché sentence (bad vs good). Most of the characters here are doing good things and simply doing that because that what they believe. It’s such a dream, and it is. Where could you find a country where the President bowed and said that all political issues were his job and the army should focus on protect the country and their people? Where could you find a drama where a chaebol still clinched his teeth and not using his power to kick an annoyed colleague (I presume Chi Hoon is a chaebol, right?). No, I don’t want a sequel. Most of sequels were bad, except Lord of the Rings and the Snow White & the Huntsman. I hate IRIS 2 although the main actor was Lee Beom Soo. I enjoy the ride with DotS, and expect nothing neither grander nor fulfilling epilogue (SJ & MY, DY & MJ married and have children) with the extended 3 episodes. But, if it is, I’ll be glad. Sorry if I am rambling, I just have to concentrate and focus on the positivism after try reading comments in other websites to quench my thirst over this drama... @mesaya ^ THIS. Words can not express how much I agree with your thoughts. Though I was satisfied with the finale of DOTS, I felt like I wanted more scenes that had meaning and depth to them. I'll try to list them down and expound on them (I do apologize because this post might be too long) 1. A SCENE BETWEEN YSJ AND SDY AFTER THEY WERE RESCUED - To be honest, I really felt like this should've happened in the finale. After YSJ and SDY were rescued by Lieutenant Ahn, I really wanted a scene where they'd be lying in hospital beds, trying to get healed from all the beating they got after being held captive for almost a year. I wanted a heartfelt scene between two guys who were more than just comrades to each other, but best friends and even brothers. While lying in their hospital beds, I wanted them to reflect on all the missions they've had together and just how many times they were lucky enough to escape death. I also wanted them to talk about how they had found love in women who were both in the medical field and how they wished that they were being taken care by them. I can actually picture YSJ asking SDY if KMY would've already found love in someone else during the length of their captivity, and SDY would say that KMY would never do that to him because she loved YSJ just the same way YMJ loved him; with a strong and faithful heart no matter how hard the circumstances may be. YSJ would then tell SDY that they had to heal faster so they could see their respective lady loves again, and of course, they'd have an adorable bromance moment, just thanking one another for an incredible journey and that when they'd step foot in South Korea, they would drink for 72 hours again. 2. A SCENE BETWEEN YSJ AND KMY AFTER THEIR REUNION - On the first night of their reunion, I really wanted to see YSJ dazing at a sleeping KMY, lying in his arms. I don't know, I mean we never really knew YSJ's side of the story ever since they were held captive. We never really knew about his thoughts when he was being beaten up nor when he was fighting for his life. The writers were so engrossed with having us grieve with KMY that we never got the chance to put ourselves in YSJ's shoes; how it must've felt like to be in a place you could consider hell for more than a year, not knowing what's been happening back home, whether you and your best friend have been declared dead, and whether or not the love of your life has found someone new. As YSJ dazes at KMY, I would've wanted a monologue of him telling her that not a day passed that he did not think of her, that even if he thought that his suffering during captivity would be endless, he counted each day that would pass because it would mean that he'd be a day closer to seeing her again. Even if everything in his life seemed unsure, there was one thing that he was so sure about and that was his love for KMY, his love for her that would surely keep him alive. He'd then caress her face and give her a soft kiss on the lips and the scene would end with him saying that he loved, loves and will continue to love her till the end of his days. (OH MY GOODNESS THIS SCENE WOULD'VE BEEN SO BEAUTIFUL) 3. A SCENE BETWEEN YSJ, KMY AND HIS FATHER - You've got to admit that one of those tear-jerking scenes during the last two episodes of DOTS was Commander Yoon telling YSJ's father that he had passed away. I do think that a reunion scene between father and son should've happened. I mean, with his wife having gone before him, it would've been so heartbreaking for Mr. Yoon to know that he had lost his only son too. I guess I would've wanted a scene where they either reunited before YSJ was promoted to squadron leader where they hug and get all emotional and stuff, or during YSJ's promotion, he finally introduces KMY to his father as his girlfriend-slash-potential wife. YSJ's father would gladly accept KMY, but would tell her that it wouldn't be easy loving a man from the army, considering the fact that he was once a soldier himself and that his wife would often complain because his life was always at stake whenever he was on the field, but KMY would respond that in the length that she's known YSJ, she already knows the risk but still chooses to love him the same way his late wife loved and stood by him despite the danger of his work, as well. YSJ's father would then tell YSJ that he has found the right woman for him and that no matter what happens, he should never let her go. 4. DANIEL AND YE HWA'S WEDDING - For some reason, I really wanted Daniel and Ye Hwa to have more screen time. I felt like they had so much chemistry, but they were just minor characters, so it was pretty understandable that their story line wasn't given as much depth. I just wished that they were at least shown during the finale since they were getting married. I think I've mentioned it in a post here already, so I'll just say it again. The way I pictured it in my mind is Daniel and Ye Hwa exchanging vows about how their love blossomed from the most difficult circumstances, but managed to survive because they fought those circumstances together and never let each other go. I mean, for sure, it's something that both ,YSJ and KMY, as well as SDY and YMJ would definitely relate to. I mean, while Daniel and Ye Hwa are looking into each other's eyes, I can imagine the camera showing us scenes of the two couples looking lovingly at one another. And omg just imagine YSJ intertwining his fingers with KMY's while they listen to the vows. These are the scenes I think could've added more spice to the finale. I mean, the last scene was okay, the whole volcano eruption in Canada, but I would've wanted them to go back to Urk instead. Actually, I would've liked the ending in Canada if the entire team had exited the hotel, and YSJ and KMY were the only ones left. KMY seems unsure if they can take on such a disaster again, and the YSJ looks into her eyes and reminds her that they've survived land mines, an earthquake, a disease and an abduction together. And then he asks her, if after everything they've been through, she's willing to give up now. KMY then gets pumped up and says that she's willing to take on anything as long as they're together. They share a quick, but sweet kiss and then YSJ holds her hand and tells her, "Let's go, Doctor Kang. We've got a lot of people to save." And then they run outside the hotel, and then slowly, fade out to black. Wasn't that a better ending? Hahaha! OMG THIS POST IS SO LONG BUT THANK YOU IF EVER YOU'VE READ IT TILL THE VERY END. LET ME HEAR YOUR THOUGHTS ABOUT IT
CatWhiskers
@annettegatuslao On point! Agree with Point 1, 2 (especially 2!) & 3. However I am ok with the ending. A lot of people don't really get it. The ending is a joke. The volcano thing. It's like the writer is joking with us by being really crazy and unrealistic and throwing in a volcano eruption. Lol! I would like to add in, 1.Yoo Si Jin flashback to his captain when he got shot (Ep.15) It would have been really nice if it is not just the captain he say, but KMY. It would have been even more heartbreaking. The could have him remembering KMY and her beautiful smile that he always love and him with tears in his eyes said, "I'm sorry I could not keep my promise." As many, I too wonder why 16 episodes? Not enough budget since it was pre-produced? Clearly an additional one or two or even one is enough to fill in some gap of YSJ & SDY's MIA time. Still....I'll just take whatever it is. It is still better than other Kdramas.

LeN
@kokodus Thank you for this game. It's so fun to know people favorites' picks. I'm struggling to pick one out of too many great scenes My favourites: Favourite scene : YSJ's facial expression after he jumped out of the window and the way he put his hands in pockets when he talked to KMY thereafter xDI especially like his acting during that scene. he was cool and confident. and it just shows me that he was so over the moon inside. I was so happy for him. Favorite ep : Everything in ep 8. The way Snoppy kicked the Diamond guy, the way YSJ comforted the trapped worker... the way SDY cursed at the Diamond guy and the smirked when YSJ hearing MY's confession Favourite line (YSJ) : When MY cried at the begining of ep 8, she asked SJ that: "Aren't there any dark, shady place around here?" because she wanted to be alone. YSJ replied her with these lines : "That's what a man usually says" ( it's him always being witty to comfort people). He continued: "Then I should trying my best at being "shady"? - (This line is a gold to me, it says that he always wants to be her that "shady place"/her boyfriend where she could feel relieved and comfortable. He continued "I need to hear you answer so that I can wipe your tears" (He was respectful here, and it shows how much he cares for her, and how heavy-hearted he feel when seeing her cry. Because he confessed earlier (the third time) that he missed her, whatever he did couldn't let him not to think of her, so he wants to hear her answer to able to wipe her tears - a loving gesture that lovers do for each others) Favourite line (from KMY) : "That wasn't me"/ "That wasn't Captain Yoo"... Her reasoning is just one of a kind xD "You only say stuff like that while you hand over an envelope full of money. Why are telling me to break up with him while you offer nothing?" Favourite line (from SDY) : "Three" haha / "Yoon Myung Ju is an angle since the moment she stepped into my life " (it's cheesy but I burst into tears when I hear he says it) Favorite line (from YMJ) : "His appearance isn't my style. He looks like a girl" Favourite line in general: YSJ: "I'm telling you that you should use this chance to get her pregnant and deliver here" (LOL, that's when i and my friend continued shout out "wow this drama is so cool" xD it's so fun watching this drama with friends) Favourite scene (SDY-YMJ) : The selfie scene - their love is just so cute Favourite character : Yoo Si Jin Favourite kiss : Shipwreck kiss is just perfect, but the truck kiss gave me so much feels... I remember that I was so much emotional after that scene and I couldn't do anything after that. My hands was shaking and my mouth was hurt because grinning so hard. I was so happy for Captain Yoo Si Jin. Favourite LOL moment : when YSJ put the earphone and his facial expression was so sly, and then fell off from the wheelchair LOL.... I've never thought that even a person falling off is that such cute and fun. I love that scene the most in this drama Favourite OST : Talk Love
viyra
I disappeared for a day and came back to congratulate everyone for reaching 1000 (and more) pages and all I found are discussions about 'byeontaeism'. I guess it is okay to have such discussions - the moderators won't punish us - assuming all of us are almost up the hill, or over the hill like me. I may be over the hill but that wouldn't stop me from imagining - what kind of excitement rubbing socks would do. Keep it alive, peeps!!!

I mean, they never really showed a flashback signaling that YSJ and the captain had a lot of good memories together. We had to assume that they did. That's why I couldn't find it in myself to cry when he got shot because it was still the captain he was thinking about and not KMY. I just find it really weird. And as for the 16 episodes, I read in a certain site that DOTS was supposed to have around 20 episodes, but the production cost was starting to get in the way, so they had to cut it short ;_________;
