*** The latest episode ended with Go Seung Tak asked for Cha Young Min helping him for the surgery, which means that the latter who has became a spirit after the car accident is visible to Go Seung Tak. I'm curious on how the two will work together and find out the truth behind the accident.   'Ghost Doctor' airs on tvN every Mondays and Tuesdays at 10:30 PM (KST).   :kisslevel:

8 Things You Should Know About Hallyu Superstar Rain

Rain can sing, dance, and act. Is there anything he can’t do?

rain-facts-1642152860.jpg

With a career spanning more than 20 years, Hallyu superstar Rain (birth name: Jung Ji Hoon) proves there are no limits when it comes to reinventing yourself and pushing the boundaries of your own skills and talents. If you’re new to the fandom, chances are you’re watching his turn as a hard-hearted genius surgeon in the K-drama Ghost Doctor on Viu, and his antics on the travel variety show The Hungry And The Hairy on Netflix. But these shows are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to this multi-hyphenate whose career spans music, acting, and variety.

Here are eight *interesting* facts about Rain:

Spoiler

1. He has albums that sold over a million copies.

Before Rain became known for his acting, he started out as a singer—and it wasn’t an easy road to stardom. At sixteen, he was a part of an unsuccessful boy group called Fanclub. He eventually got accepted into one of the "Big Three" entertainment companies, JYP Entertainment, and made his debut as a soloist in 2002. His third album, It’s Raining, was so popular it sold over a million copies. So did his next album, Rain’s World.

2. His K-drama, Full House, was a mega hit.

OG K-drama fans will be familiar with Justin and Jessie (Yong Jae and Ji Eun) from the super fun rom-com Full House, a K-drama which aired on local channel GMA-7 back in 2005. It was so popular everyone was singing Song Hye Kyo’s adorable "Three Bears" song. Full House was released in South Korea back in 2004. It was just Rain’s second drama back then, but it became such a hit that it was exported to countries all over Asia, making it a significant part of the Hallyu wave. Rain’s popularity extended to his singing career, and he even went on a concert tour in different countries.

3. He topped TIME Magazine’s "Your TIME 100" poll multiple times.

Rain’s career continued to soar, leading him to Western shores, where he did concerts and even performed to sold-out crowds at Madison Square Garden. His fame led TIME Magazine to pick him as part of their influential TIME 100 list back in 2006. The magazine also had a poll where readers got to choose their top pick from the TIME 100, and Rain got first place. He continued to top the poll for two more years.

4. He made his Hollywood debut in 2008.

As part of his move into the Western market, Rain tried his luck in Hollywood. He was in the 2008 film Speed Racer based on the popular manga and anime of the same name. He played the role of racer Taejo Togokahn.

The year after, Rain also played the protagonist in the martial arts film Ninja Assassin, his first lead role in a Hollywood movie. In 2010, he won the "Biggest Badass Award" from the MTV Movie Awards for his work on the film.

5. He’s married to popular actress Kim Tae Hee.

Rain caused quite a stir when it was revealed in 2013 that he and actress Kim Tae Hee were dating. Tae Hee is known as one of South Korea’s most beautiful actresses, along with other big stars Song Hye Kyo and Jun Ji Hyun. They got married in 2017 and now have two cute children. Rain shared in an episode of The Hungry And The Hairy that he got rejected five times before Tae Hee decided to go on a date with him. Talk about determination! Apparently, he came across as a playboy, but Tae Hee’s impression of him soon changed.

6. He has his own company.

After leaving JYP Entertainment, Rain established his own company, J. Tune Entertainment, in 2007. Under its subsidiary label, J. Tune Camp, it debuted K-pop groups like MBLAQ, a four-man team that included Dara’s brother, Thunder, and actor Lee Joon (you might have seen his ~handsome~ face in recent dramas The Silent Sea and Bulgasal: Immortal Souls). J. Tune eventually got absorbed by JYP Entertainment, and Rain signed with Cube Entertainment. When his contract ended, he started another company called R.A.I.N. Company, which initially served as his one-man agency. Now, they also house other artists, including their own boy group called Ciipher, whose members were all picked by Rain.

7. His music career made a comeback in 2020 after an old MV went viral.

While Rain continued to star in dramas, his singing career took a backseat. He got an unexpected second wind when his 2017 MV for the song "Gang" started going viral after a student made a parody of it that gained traction online. The parody then gave birth to more parodies. To put things simply, netizens thought "Gang" was too ~over-the-top~ and enjoyed making fun of it. Rain accepted the criticism gamely and poked fun at himself, sparking more interest in the song. He even released a remix version that reached no. 1 on the real-time charts.

3 Reasons Why Viewers Are Hooked On Rain And Kim Bum’s Drama “Ghost Doctor”

dummy.jpeg?s=900x600&e=t

Ghost Doctor” has caught the attention of viewers with its intriguing plot and characters!

Helmed by “Heirs” director Boo Sung Chul, “Ghost Doctor” is a new fantasy medical drama about two doctors who could not be more different in terms of their backgrounds, skills, or personalities, but who end up combining bodies and spirits. Rain stars as genius thoracic surgeon Cha Young Min, while Kim Bum plays silver-spoon resident Go Seung Tak.

Spoilers

  Hide contents

So far, the drama has recorded a personal best viewership rating of 5.711 percent, and there is a steady rise in ratings with each episode since its premiere.

Here are three reasons that viewers have been hooked on “Ghost Doctor”:

Rain and Kim Bum’s extraordinary chemistry and hilarious synergy

From the first episode, people were drawn to Rain and Kim Bum’s bromance. The two actors flawlessly immersed into their roles and made the viewers burst into laughter at their hilarious interactions. Cha Young Min, who became a ghost, freely possessed Go Seung Tak’s body, and Go Seung Tak, who had known this, cried out, “Die! Get away from me! You darned ghost! Leave me alone!”

At the end of the fourth episode, Go Seung Tak, who was about to undergo an important surgery, revealed that Cha Young Minw as visible to his eyes, hinting that they will officially join hands and raising expectations for more excitement to come.

Interesting plot development and relationships

Not only does the drama make viewers laugh breathlessly, but the unique side stories further upgrade the immersion of the plot. In the last episode, there were hints that chairman Jang Kwang Deok’s (Lee Moon Soo’s) operation on the day of Cha Young Min’s questionable traffic accident is somewhat connected to Cha Young Min.

In addition, the intertwined relationships between the characters add more entertainment. Jang Se Jin (Uee), Oh Soo Jung (Apink’s Son Naeun), Tes (Sung Dong Il), Han Seung Won (Tae In Ho), and Ahn Tae Hyun (Go Sang Ho) have their own stories, and it will be interesting to see what kind of relationships they form with Cha Young Min and Go Seung Tak.

Mystical subject: medical fantasy

Lastly, “Ghost Doctor” is attracting viewers with a different genre called “medical fantasy.” The story of a “coma ghost” at the border of life and death in the setting of a hospital is refreshing and new.

On top of that, the fact that Cha Young Min, a brilliant doctor, can only possess Go Seung Tak, a clumsy doctor, brings more engrossing experiences that makes viewers always anticipate what will happen next.

“Ghost Doctor” airs every Monday and Tuesday at 10:30 p.m. KST.

*** Rain in "Ghost Doctor" plays arrogant thoracic surgeon Cha Young-min and gets to pick and choose his patients. He can afford to be picky, since he is known for his “god hands” that have given him a 100 per cent success rate in the operating room. Young-min rules the roost at Eunsang University Medical Centre but his dominance comes under threat with the arrival of the equally arrogant new resident doctor Go Seung-tak who is being groomed to take over the hospital, which is run by his family. Sensing the threat, Young-min tries to put Seung-tak through the wringer, but the new resident turns out to have an intimidating medical knowledge, in addition to his silver spoon. Young-min quickly knew on Seung-tak’s one major weakness – he is disgusted when it comes to blood and anatomy. Meanwhile, Young-min is called on to operate on VIP patient Jang Kwang-deok (Lee Moon-soo), the chairman of a powerful corporation, but he’s faced with a dilemma: proceed with a dangerous operation or allow the chairman to live for another year in comfort. Further complicating matter is Kwang-deok’s daughter Se-jin (Uee) who is Young-min’s ex-girlfriend. One evening Young-min is mysteriously involved in a car accident. He steps out of his vehicle in a state of stunned confusion and attempts to go to the aid of another victim, but discovers that no one can see or hear him. Then he turns around to discover his comatose self in the car. Young-min’s body is brought to Eunsang and he needs open-heart surgery. But that late at night, the only person who can step into surgery robes is the on-duty doctor – Seung-tak. Being book smart, Seung-tak quickly identifies the problem, but performing the procedure is another matter. Young-min’s spirit is beside himself with worry in the operating room – and then something unexpected happens. When he puts his hand on Seung-tak’s wrist, his consciousness is transferred to him. As later explained by longtime ghost Tess – Young-min has become a “coma ghost”. While his body is undecided on the edge of life and death, Young-min is doomed to monitor the halls of Eunsang, but he’s unable to travel any further from his body. No one can see or hear him, except for a mysterious cleaner who can commune with the dead, and a few other coma ghosts in the hospital. However, Young-min differs from other coma ghosts since he is able to take over Seung-tak’s body to help him perform complex procedures. Seung-tak is the only person he can use, and this technique even affords him an opportunity to go beyond the hospital walls.

The real selling point of "Ghost Doctor" is the interactions between Young-min and Seung-tak, or rather the many & various instances of Young-min taking over Seung-tak’s body. Seung-tak is a brighter personality compared to the

stuffy and reserved Young-min. When the latter takes hold, Seung-tak loses his smile.    :wut:

Yet four episodes in, the show is already starting to change.......................  "Ghost Doctor" is streaming on Viu.

Uee Talks About A Time That Rain And Kim Tae Hee Made Her Jealous Of Married Life

On January 16, Uee appeared as a special MC on the SBS variety show “My Little Old Boy.”

Uee is currently starring in the tvN drama “Ghost Doctor,” which stars Rain and Kim Bum as doctors with completely different backgrounds, skills, and personalities who end up combining bodies and spirits.

On “My Little Old Boy,” Shin Dong Yup asked Uee, “Rain is famous for being an affectionate husband, so have you never wanted to get married while seeing him interact with his wife?”

Uee answered, “Not long ago, a coffee truck in Rain’s name came to set. We thought it was obviously a fan or an acquaintance of his, but we learned that Kim Tae Hee had sent it to him. She sent it so simply and without making it obvious that we didn’t know. If my husband was an actor and I sent him a coffee truck, I would put my face on it clearly. But Kim Tae Hee kept it really simple. When I saw that, I was really envious.”

*** Rain's agency, Sublime Artist Agency, addresses the rumors about him being called a "cheapskate." (this means a stingy person especially : one who tries to avoid paying a fair share of costs or expenses.) It came after a Youtuber called him out saying that he is "stingy" and doesn't buy his juniors food despite owning multi-million dollar assets. The said video was posted in April last year by a former entertainment reporter turned Youtuber. Sublime Artist Agency released an official statement in response to allegations regarding his money-spending behavior. The agency said that the videos circulating on social media are based on "false information," ruining the name of RAIN. Due to this, they warned that they are planning to take legal actions against malicious commenters and will no longer be lenient about the issue.

Some Youtubers create "Fake news" to rake views. They should be given a lesson................

*** Tension rose in this episode because Kim Bum and RAIN gets caught up in a petty fight. On the IG clip below, Ko Seung Tak annoys Cha Young Min by teasing him by throwing his prized possessions out the window. For Cha Young Min, his suits and trousers are one of the important items since he loves everything about fashion and looking good. In the video, Go Seung Tak barged into Cha Young Min's office and saw a trunk full of his clothes. Since the duo are now inseparable because Go Seung Tak can now see and feel Young Min's presence. In episode 4  it was revealed that Go Seung Tak can see and hear Cha Young Min after he was rushed to the hospital due to a car accident. rain’s world

I just admire how Kim Tae Hee radiates serenity and bliss all the time whenever she’s with Rain. She is glowing in this BTS clip of their couple commercial. I remember feeling all sorts of stunned when Dispatch outed them because they seemed such an unlikely pair. Well, years later, they have proven detractors wrong – they are still married and still look utterly in love. They are parents to two daughters. They are happy. I hope they they’ll stay this way because they are one of my fave celebrity couples ever.

[PICK] Rain’s Top 5 Movies and Dramas

rain-01_%E1%84%8A%E1%85%A5%E1%86%B7%E1%8

Rain has always been passionate about acting and singing. Although most people know him as a singer, he has built a thriving career as an actor for the past twenty years. He stayed firm even when things were not coming his way and has always made decisions based on what would be the best for him despite the concerns of his peers. The singer-turned-actor is currently proving those concerns wrong as he is receiving many favorable reviews for his mysterious surgeon role in tvN’s Ghost Doctor. If you find Rain charming as not only a singer but also an actor, let’s take a look at some of his most impressive works.

Spoiler

Sang Doo! Let’s Go to School (2003)

Rain made his acting debut in Sang Doo! Let’s Go to School. It’s a romance drama about an ex-convict and single father named Sang Doo and his best friend named Eun Hwan (Gong Hyo Jin), who happened to be his first love. Although Sang Doo! Let’s Go to School didn’t do well due to MBC’s Dae Jang Geum‘s sensational popularity, it did gain great popularity among a few passionate drama fans. Many viewers wrote that Rain nailed his part as a single father, and as an ex-convict who struggles to raise his sick daughter while finding the love of his life outside of prison. His killer smiles and his genuine emotional acting drew people into the show. In a way, Sang Doo! Let’s Go to School’s success seemed to have paved the way for him to be one of the A-list actors.

Full House (2004)

Full House is a drama adaptation of a manhwa that shares the same title. It is a romantic comedy show about a female landlord who discovers that her house has been sold to a famous actor without her consent. Rain took the role of the top star named Young Jae and played opposite Song Hye Kyo, who starred as Ji Eun. Ji Eun is an aspiring scriptwriter who becomes Young Jae’s housemaid as a result of a series of events. Since Rain was greatly popular at that time thanks to his hit song “It’s Raining,” he played his celebrity role very naturally. Young Jae is a character who does whatever he wants and isn’t good with his emotions. This kind of setting added to the fun of the drama and spiced up the sweet chemistry between Song Hye Kyo and him. Rain found his way to stardom as a Hallyu star thanks to the phenomenal popularity of Full House in Korea and East Asia.

I’m a Cyborg, But That’s OK (2006)

rain movie I’m a Cyborg But That’s OK Credit: CJ Entertainment

I’m a Cyborg, But That’s OK is Rain’s first movie that is filled with director Park Chan Wook’s unique approach to a romantic comedy movie. Set in Shinsaegae Psychiatric Hospital, the movie tells the story of a girl named Young Goon (Im Soo Jung) who believes she’s a cyborg and a boy named Il Soon (Rain) who thinks he can steal other people’s characteristics. Rain practiced yodeling and table tennis for his role despite his busy schedule with his new album. Although the film did not perform well at the box office due to its difficult-to-understand storyline, I personally think that it is still a worth-watching movie. It outs itself as a low-key rom-com with fairy tale rhythms to its narrative, featuring unique characters like a man who walks backward, a yodeling girl, and “a rubber band man.” As the film got the chance to premiere at the Berlin International Film Festival, Rain was able to make himself known to the Hollywood production crews.

Ninja Assassin gave Rain his first Hollywood lead role after his string of rom-coms. Previously, he had made his Hollywood film debut in the Wachowski sisters’ Speed Racer (2008). In Ninja Assassin, Rain played a man named Raizo who was trained to become the ultimate ninja assassin under a secret clan. Ninja Assassin depicts Raizo seeking vengeance after witnessing his friend being brutally killed by the clan that took him in when he was an orphan on the street. Rain is said to have undergone harsh martial arts training every day for six months to realistically portray his character, who has been trained to become an assassin since he was a child. Although the story of him overcoming his internal conflicts and its poor production was disappointing, the action in Ninja Assassin was worth watching.

Welcome 2 Life (2019)

Welcome 2 Life is a crime-romance drama that follows a selfish lawyer who falls into a parallel world where he is a righteous prosecutor. Rain played Jae Sang, the man who is forced to live a second life. He received positive reviews for portraying two characters who are the complete opposite of each other in terms of their marital status, goals and philosophies. Viewers left positive reviews on Rain’s character as he slowly changed from being a cold-blooded man who suddenly fell into a parallel world to a father who genuinely misses his family. Thanks to the favorable reviews he received in this drama, Rain was able to make up for the failure of the movie Race to Freedom: Um Bok Dong.

Watch: Rain, Kim Bum, And Uee Playfully Tease Each Other For Causing Bloopers While Filming “Ghost Doctor”

tvN has taken viewers behind the scenes of Episodes 5 and 6 of “Ghost Doctor”!

“Ghost Doctor” is a new fantasy medical drama about a genius surgeon named Cha Young Min (played by Rain) and a silver-spoon resident named Go Seung Tak (Kim Bum) who could not be more different in terms of backgrounds, skills, and personalities, but who end up combining bodies and spirits. Uee stars as Jang Se Jin, a neurosurgeon and Cha Young Min’s ex-girlfriend, while Apink‘s Son Naeun plays emergency room intern Oh Soo Jung.

The clip starts off with Rain and Kim Bum diligently memorizing and rehearsing their three pages worth of banter. They show off their close real-life friendship as they look over the script together, but immediately channel their characters’ competitive on-screen relationship when they start rehearsing their lines.

Later, Rain and Uee film a sweet scene from the past. The director tells Uee to look upon Rain very lovingly, and Rain tells the actress, “You have to look very lovingly, you can’t look just lovingly.” Uee listens, and Rain responds, “You’re going to receive the acting Daesang [grand prize].” She bursts into laughter and asks, “From who?” and he replies, “I’ll give it to you.”

As the two wait for Kim Bum, Uee explains that she’s only seen the actor in passing. Rain jokes, “I’ve been doing a romance [with Kim Bum]. I’m sick of it.” While the trio film together, Uee must pretend not to see Rain, since he’s acting as a ghost. However, she accidentally looks up at him and calls out, “I almost looked at you!” He teases, “We basically made eye contact.” She vehemently denies it and Kim Bum joins in, “It seemed like you were aware [of him]!”

In yet another scene of long banter between Rain and Kim Bum, Rain forgets his line and Kim Bum calls out, “Huh?

You have to treat me to a meal,” revealing a bet between the two actors about messing up their lines. Later, Rain compliments Kim Bum for memorizing his lines so well, and Kim Bum shares, “I forget them really fast. That’s kind of my know-how. I quickly memorize them and I forget them right away.”

Later, the cast gathers for a chaotic scene with a distraught guardian. After they rehearse the scene where the angry woman grabs Rain by the hair, she explains that she’s a fan and says, “You were the idol of our generation.”
