I'm still here....

Uploaded the "Summer Time" MV to the veoh account. Successfully, so it says.....

I rather liked Professor Choi Gi Chan better. Professor Choi Oon Hyuk had a choice between political ideals and love and allowed himself to be sidetracked, but RSY is irresistible in the role anyway. Don't know whether the tan is real or not but I suspect it's makeup since his hands don't match his face.....

It's too bad that there isn't more of his work available to view. He's been in films and dramas for the better part of a decade and only a handful of things he's done are out there for us to see. In the U. S., anyway.

It makes me understand a little better why he was in tears at the KBS Drama awards. He's had a long struggle. Only made it to Leading Man roles with 18 vs. 29 in 2005 and then to win (or at least share) the Top Excellence award for Seoul 1945........ must have really been overwhelming.

[마이데일리 = 윤신욱 기자] SBS 특별기획 드라마 '불량커플'(연출 이명우·극본 최순식)의 종방연에서 최기찬 역을 연기했던 류수영이 남다른 느낌을 밝혔다.

23일 서울 여의도의 한 식당에서 가진 '불량커플' 종방연 자리에는 촬영 스탭과 배우들이 자리를 가득 채워 서로 격려하며 축하하는 분위기가 자연스럽게 연출됐다.

특히 극중에 최기찬을 연기했던 류수영은 "너무 행복한 시간들이었다"며 "작품을 연기할 때 마다 늘 극중 인물에 빠져 들기 위해 노력을 했었다"고 말했다.

이어 "'불량커플'에서 연기했던 최기찬의 캐릭터를 연기하면서 내 자신을 반성하는 소중한 시간이었다"라고 말하며 배역에 대한 애정을 과시했다. 그리고 "최기찬을 연기하면서 찍으면 찍을 수록 내자신이 착해지는 것 같았다"라고 말하며 '불량커플'을 연출한 이명우PD에게 감사의 말을 전했다.

한편 이날 종방연에는 신은경과 박상민이 개인적인 사정으로 참석하지 않아 아쉬움을 남겼다.

지난 22일 막을 내린 '불량커플' 후속작으로는 엄정화, 오지호 주연의 '칼잡이 오수정'(연출 박형기·극본 박혜련)이 방송된다.

humm.... well, the first article is basically saying the same thing as the article previous, and that it was a happy time for RSY while filming this role, and that he basically resolved to become a better person as he found differences in himself and Gi Chan. It also states that Shin Eun Kyung and Park Sang Min weren't able to attend a dinner the staff and actors had (I guess a congratulatory party).

The second article... is more like a review of RSY as an actor... it's a little more difficult to translate but I'll do my best...Since it's so abstract, I think I'm better off translating each paragraph...

The first paragraph talks about how RSY is like a particular kind of tree (I don't know my Korean trees... sorry ), and how it's always there, constant, and is not flashy, but always reassuring. If you look at RSY's filmography, you notice that he takes on varying degrees of roles that have been slowly adding up resulting in different colorful characters and this image is making a lot of female hearts palpitate (sorry this is a very loooose translation) =)

The first time that RSY's name was starting to be known was in Jang Hyuk and Jang Nara's drama A Bright Girl's Success Story. He took on the role of the antagonist, and with his cold eyes was able to digest a character which manly people hated. (I can't translate the Korean implications of the words very well; even though she's talking about his role as the bad guy, she's using words which show how impressively he was able to achieve this task... in other words.. it's still a compliment).

RSY can do hard line acting as well as dissolve easily into a role. uhm... the rest of the paragraph.. are compliments.. that are too hard for my level of korean vocabulary to understand.. heh

The reviewer then talks about how she saw RSY's potential for stardom in "Next". Playing diverse characters across the ages truly showed his abilities as an actor. It's not easy to have different roles like that, but he was able to show the different colors of his personality and ability and earn the viewers' respect. In Seoul1945, he was able to overcome the roles that he played in dramas such as "Save the Last Dance" and "18 vs. 29" and played a character that was so unique that he received the Grand Award for his role.

The reviewer talks about how he cried during the acceptance, which showed that even though he was so manly in his characters, you really saw his vulnerability, and many those who enjoyed his acting cried along with him.

In "Bad Couple," Choi Gi Chan is a different character altogether. she describes the character as being bright, and sheltered, brought up in a comfortable family environment and passionate about his work. RSY was able to be the fantasy of many viewers in the way he was taking care of his plants, or smiling cheerfully in his suit.

RSY may not have been an actor that caught the viewer's eye in the past. But once you get to know him, then you fall in love with his acting as well as his charisma. In the same way we love that tree (mentioned above). Even if it's a small role, he thinks that it's precious and put all his passion into it, and this kind of actor is someone who is like a gem in our culture today.

Phew! that was more difficult then I expected. Suffice it to say that EVERY WORD OF THIS REVIEW is positive.. i mean.. she really laid it on pretty thick. But he's absolutely deserving of it, isn't he? :blush:

I agree, Seoul 1945 was the vehicle that best showcased RSY's acting prowess. So no matter what, I'm gonna watch that! AND I want to upload that to the Veoh account. I just don't know if it's available at any clubbox ...or if it has been subbed...anyone knows?

Seoul 1945 was English-subbed (very well) by KBS America for broadcast in the U.S. KBS America sells it on DVD through their e-store, but I don't know where you would find it for download. I'd love to see NGs as well if anyone can find them.

RSY IS so deserving. you can tell he puts so much into each part he plays. I had to smile at the mention of how he cared for plants in "Bad Couple". Yes, it made me wish I had leaves.......

Personally, I prefer Prof Choi Oon Hyuk, he is, as quoted VERY “irresistible”. Find that the character has more depth. Lookwise, only the role of Mongolian general in NEXT can match.

Have you heard the bad news about Shin Eun Kyung and her marriage? Apparently she and her husband of four years are currently separated due to her husband's mishandling of finances.. =( Sad.. no wonder she was losing all that weight... the pressure of a hit drama on top of personal problems.

Our RSY is looking pretty trim himself too, no? I hope he's doing well in the horrible heat. It's horribly humid during the typhoon season, and I hear it's over 100 degrees in Korea these days. It must have been awful to be in that suit during that heat... still he looks rather handsome.

SBS 〈불량커플〉에서 전혀 불량하지 않은 선량한 모습으로 대한민국 여심을 사로잡은 탤런트 류수영 씨가 이번엔 증권맨으로 변신했습니다. 류수영 씨는 비록 명예지점장이었지만 꽤 어울렸다고 하는데요. 류수영 씨가 일하고 있는 증권회사로 지금 함께 가보실까요?

"자상할 것 같아요. 같이 있으면 즐거울 것 같아요."

"모든 게 갖춰진 것 같고 여자를 위하는 것 같아서 너무 좋아요."

이 많은 여성팬들의 전폭적인 지지를 받은 남자는 바로 탤런트 류수영!

이 시대의 마지막 로맨티스트 류수영이 증권회사에 취직을 했다고 합니다. 지난 27일 류수영은 자신이 모델로 활동하고 있는 한 증권회사의 명예지점장으로 위촉 됐는데요.

Q) 명예 지점장으로 위촉된 소감...?

A) "실감은 안나지만 연기자로서 새로운 경험이 된 것 같아요."

Q) 명예 지점장으로 무슨 일 하나...?

A) "상담까진 못해드리고, 새로운 계좌 만드신 분들에게 사인 해드리고 지점장으로 이런 저런 일..."

여성팬들 사진찍고, 싸인 받는 모습 멋진 남자 류수영이 지점장으로 있어서 그런지 이날은 유독 여성 고객들이 많이 찾아왔습니다.

류수영이 이처럼 많은 여성팬을 얻게 된 데에는 최근 SBS〈불량커플〉에서 '최기찬' 역을 맡아 한 여자에게 지고지순한 사랑을 쏟아 붇는 매력적인 모습을 보여줬기 때문인데요.

Q) 실제 성격도 '최기찬'과 닮았나...?

A) "저도 차가운 사람이 못 되기 때문에 인간적으로 따뜻한 면은 비슷하다고 생각하는데... 드라마 캐릭터만큼 못 착하지만 착해지려고 노력 중이고요."

Q) 드라마처럼 '당자' 같은 여인이 대시해 온다면...?

A) "그런 분들 좋아해요, 시원시원하고 아닐 땐 아니고 좋아하는 사람한테는 맹목적으로 덤비고, 이런 열정 있는 부분이... 다만 거짓말 하는 부분은 마음에 들지 않아요."

류수영은 실제로도 드라마 속 캐릭터와 크게 다르지 않은 인간미 풀풀 넘치는 따뜻한 성격인데요.

류수영의 이런 진면목을 알아보고 멀리 일본에서도 류수영을 지지하는 팬들이 많다고 합니다.

Q) 일본팬까지 왔는데 소감은...?

A) 기분이 굉장히 좋고,,깊은 의리에 고개가 숙여집니다. 연말 상 탈 때도 와서 눈물 같이 흘려주셔서 저에게는 의미가 깊은 팬입니다."

세월이 흘러도 절대 불량해질 것 같은 남자 류수영은 이제 대한민국뿐 대표 훈남으로 우뚝 섰는데요.

앞으로 어떤 멋진 모습으로 여성팬들의 마음을 사로잡을지 벌써 그의 다음 작품이 기다려집니다.
