So for a period of time I stopped watching Asian dramas and I was only watching DA and Suits.  I was so sad they ended DA. My sis recommended the Crown as a replacement , but never got round to it.

Mr Bates and Anna...  my OTP.  North and South - Margaret and John Thornton (Armitage is the epitome of brooding male leads...malevolence with restraint...urgh...his piercing gaze gets me every time).  Yes to The Crown.  I adore Claire Foy.  She first caught my eye in Little Dorrit.

Omg you did what? :joy: Gosh, how bored can someone be? Which page was it? I probably almost forgot half of it. Maybe I made it even worse than it was? I'm super excited to backread.

But that makes me curious, what did you think about my "sexist" post that got me into trouble?  Back then @triplemwasn't a mod yet. She was one of us.

Here it is... and I am of the same opinion as @USAFarmgirl.

Followed up with this (which kinda fuelled the debate)

USAFarmgirl coming in to bat for you - I think she was relegated to “Guest” after she was hacked...

And @triplem showing you love too...aww... (actually it is because she quoted USAFarmgirl that I realized the above post was actually hers.)

Lol!  I don’t bother to keep up after a while . But since I started modding , traffic hasn’t been that heavy here . The last time we had such a big thread was probably Goblin. That was nuts . Can’t even load the pages

I thought HDL was bad enough...but looking at SWDBS was another level...and judging from the comments above probably anything Hong Sisters related is bound to get a lot of traffic.

Ahhh...the things you learn.  He seemed to be doing quite well on his own but it must’ve been deeply distressing to be called a sexist when he obviously had (has) the greatest respect for women folk as a whole.

  5. @Dhakra so I am bored...and casually go sleuthing in the SWDBS thread to try to get the backstory for your moniker... and am stunned to find... it’s 757 pages long... WHAT??  So I go half way in vain hope to scout out the heinous “sexist” post that got you into deep waters... and I finally find it... and the trail of comments levelled at you...granted I had to skim past pages of live recaps and fan girl posts.  Interesting to see @triplem in her full blown “mod” mode... It was all in all a fascinating read... and now I have more data to add to my files for some users... some of whom are still around...

I didn’t realize there were so many on the JiSoo (GD) wagon.  Frankly I don’t remember much of the story.  Aside from how cute PBY was and she had Super powers.  Guess I will find out if the writer has improved when I watch Melting Me Softly.

I honestly don't know if they were fangirls of the actress or the actor

I can’t imagine fan girls of the actor attacking you for him performing a self sacrificial act?  So it would be fan girls of the actress.  They want her to be the heroine, not the damsel in distress.  It’s self projection.  They only have one type of heroine in mind.  The Lara Croft variety.  They forget that mental strength and fortitude isn’t always conveyed in a “take no prisoners” type approach.  Often heroes (unsung) work in the background with few accolades. Quiet strength in adversity.  Walking away.  Picking your battles.  Standing your ground when it really matters.  Might is not always right.

Well, like I said, back then a horde of women went straight at me. Page after page they kicked me where the sun doesn't shine. And with every word I said I made it worse. We germans have a word for this kind of situation. We "verschlimmbessern" something.

I made something worse by trying to make it better. With every explanation they jumped onto something and called me something new.

Just afterwards people explained to me that I was trapped in the middle of heavy fangirls.

Yeah...fan girls of actresses (not actors) are a perfervid bunch.  I’ve been trying to work out why it is.  I get the feeling it’s a form of self projection.  They feel threatened by anything or anyone who even remotely casts shade on their idol/deity because they feel like it’s a personal attack on themselves.  It’s a knee jerk irrational response and I dislike it immensely.  They will not even entertain another opinion apart from their own.  Fascists.  When you close your mind like that, you learn nothing.  Arguing with them is a lost cause.  Their minds are already closed.  And when they flock to take you down, the best option is usually to walk away and vent somewhere else.  Another male Soompier left after the same treatment was dealt him in the 30but17 thread.  He was told that his comments were not welcome (because he wasn’t toeing the majority OTP line).  I thought his comments were acerbic but well thought out...farcical even...so it came as a surprise to me when he messaged me his final goodbye before he left for good (after going back to delete all his posts in disgust).  Such a pity because there are so few of your gender around to offer a different perspective on things.  So credit to you for standing your ground and choosing to stay regardless.

Truth is being a White Knight isn’t something that was granted. It in fact was rightfully earned on a thread long ago and deserved.  In a belief that if any woman is in danger it’s a mans duty and honor whether he knows her or not.  To protect her from harm.  It’s not just an idea it’s a way of life that is taught from being a boy to becoming a man that @Dhakra simply shared.  Yet to my shock was attacked for by women who are a part of a movement that doesn’t want to be thought of as weaker.  Wanting to quickly label him in so many words a sexist instead of understanding his words or his meaning...

The world is changing but where I come from it’s not an insult when a man opens a door, pulls out a chair, gives up his seat, allows her to go first etc...  It’s being a gentleman and treating a woman like a lady it’s not making her less but in fact making her more.

What I didn’t say and should have.  Was I hope those same women never find themselves in a situation of fear and need help but instead of a White Knight coming to their rescue.  They find themselves in the presence of a man who would much rather watch than get involved.

As for me whether for daughters or granddaughters I hope there are always men of courage around them willing to stand in the gap and be those White Knights and if their blessed are able to find and share their lives with one....

We are of one mind Sister.  Chivalry is very much my cup of tea.  Character trumps looks any day.  Atticus Finch would have received his fair share of vitriol in today’s militant feminist circles.  I read you well then @Dhakra.  Your moniker was hard earned.  Wear it as a badge of honour.

I did not self proclaim me as "White Knight". The "title" was somehow granted to me by @USAFarmgirl and some others. Although she is probably the only one that truly means it, the others just make fun of my constant defending of seconds leads that are, to their judgement, called "evil".

Ahhh...I thought the fact that you’ve put it down as a mantra next to your Profile pic means that it resonates with you.  Yes from what I can gather from the posts of @USAFarmgirl (who has nary a malicious bone in her body), she would’ve dealt it out as a compliment, not as a derogatory rub.

But that string of blonde haired beauties do seem to point to a pattern.  Although I am still skeptical.  If you had said “blue” or “purple” I would’ve given it more scientific relevance.  :).

A friend of mine discovered that all of my favorite Kpop girls are or were at one point blonde. And when I add a new girl to my bias list, she's pretty much always blonde aswell.....

I thought it was a given that they all go blonde at some stage in their Kpop career?  So that statement is anecdotal and not scientific/empirical.

The fact that you are a self proclaimed “White Knight of Second Leads” leaves me to think that you are by nature someone who likes helping others.  You derive satisfaction from helping the down and outs.  Not in a pompous insufferable know it all way, but out of genuine care and concern.   You’re that guy (bestie) that dim witted women pour their woes to whilst lamenting about some hot shallow dude they are crushing on with zero brains.  You pick up the pieces.  Which is why I say Mrs D will be a lucky woman indeed. :)

    What happen all died

From what I have read...it was all left open?  No resolution or closure at all for the raging issues. Which is why Netizens are asking for S2?  I think AC was originally set out to be multi-Seasons... hence “Chronicles” (plural).  However I am unsure as to whether it has developed enough of a cult status to justify more money being poured into future productions.  Ratings have been constant but not stellar.  It is on Netflix though so it may get the go ahead for Season 2.  If it doesn’t get the green light it would be a massive fail because of how it ended.  It’s not like Along With The Gods which closes a chapter on the raging issues leaving room for more.  It didn’t do anything remotely like that. Season 1 cannot stand on its own as a full complete series.

Actually it’s a very interesting complex of his. In a way I feel that, he is trying to be on par with his nephew to communicate with him though.

I wasn’t referring to how he related to his nephew per se.  It was more with reference to his lack of foresight when compared to his nephew.  The scene where the nephew is taking out the recycling and he mutters, “he’s drinking again?”  (Wasting money they couldn’t exactly afford to).  And then for the nephew to find the stuff thrown out and discover that uncle had quit his job.  So nephew is the one who understands what it means to scrimp and save and live within your means (adult) and uncle doesn’t seem to have a clue and is all bravado and talk (child).

EDIT - figures that he has LSG’s character on his phone as “stupid Uncle”.  It’s patronising.  Very adult of him.  And he’s (Nephew) the one giving final instructions and saying last goodbyes before boarding the plane (without being asked)...”don’t forget to check the cloud for pics/videos” (notice he didn’t kick up a stink for stupid Uncle not being there when everyone else had a parent around to send them off?). Yeah so when Nephew died (he was the most interesting character for me ), so did my interest for the drama.

well i am just watching it because I am just watching it.. No special reason except LSG... will decide my future course of action depending on the way it turns up...

Did you cringe at the monkey reference in the opening scene - when the other sniper was talking to him?  My mind went to Hwayugi for some reason?  LSG is great in the action scenes.  I did get a bit annoyed at his character in the first ep when he was acting more like a child and his nephew the adult.  But I guess that’s how the writer wanted his character to grow.  Yeah I watch dramas sometimes purely for my fav actors/actresses, nothing wrong with that. Especially if they tend to only one a year or something.  :o. It means if I get too picky and skip one then I would have to wait a whole year for their next offering.

  16. Sigh I just watched Ep1 of Vagabond and my interest died with the nephew.  He was cute.  All grown up in that little body.  Died far too young. .  After the straight shooting President Park MuJin in DS60, the President depicted here brought me crashing back to reality again...sigh, are there really no good men in politics?  <_<.  And Suzy dear, that was major overkill...what you did was more like a massive tear in the stocking...not a run?   And the mortician should be fired.  The gunshot entry wound on the side of the head of poor Michael could’ve been patched up or covered up with make up better...surely??

  17. But yeah I think MinJae does look a lot like Yeo JinGoo. I often have to do a double take to figure out who it is in photos.    I am not into rap either.  I just know in one interview he was relating how hard idol trainee life was and that was what stuck in my head.

I have only seen him act in The Best Hit with Yoon ShiYoon.  He wasn’t bad.  That was also the drama Cha EunWoo first appeared?  CEW was so green then.  But eye candy for sure.

@stroppyse i only wanna watch My Country for your bae . He looks great..YSJ does not carry the same charisma that he does. Ok , I think I like these bad boys type

I’d have to agree with you there about Kim JaeYoung.  He completely stole the show from Taecyeon in Save Me despite being second lead.  Every time he appeared I was glued.  He smouldered.  I was shipping him with YeJi’s character.

@Lawyerh MinJae trained as an idol before he became an actor.  I don’t think he made the cut though?  Or maybe he left because it got way too hard.  So he can dance.  And rap.

haven’t continued Vagabond. But already read recaps so as to know which part to skip. I read in other forums, looks like I’m not the only one doing so

Really? It’s that bad?  Haven’t tried it at all.  No time.  But reading recaps there are already people picking out factual inconsistencies... but the fact that it’s LSG and Suzy may just keep people watching regardless.  I find it strange that the ratings for that drama is now broken up into 3? Like there are 2 ad breaks now I assume?  It was weird enough to have the ratings/episodes broken up mid way with the ad break... welcome back @stroppyse.

I never heard about the other dramas you mentioned.

Hwayugi is also known as Korean Odyssey.  The Hong Sisters spin on the Chinese Journey to the West story.  Dream High was one of those teenie bopper high school (?) dramas where the lot of them attempt to make a name for themselves in a School of Arts type scenario.  I watched to try to see what the big deal was about Kim Soo Hyun (he was this big Hallyu star so I thought he may be able to keep my interest through the drama but I dropped it even before he appeared.  ).

I loved Tunnel...and I know dhakra has watched it because I put my neck on the line and told him he had to check it out.  What genre are you into? If crime or thrillers- some I love include:

It depends on my mood.  Sometimes I like thrillers and crime but if it’s too gruesome I skip it.  Tunnel was pretty gruesome (the murders) but the plot and the cast just kept me glued to the end.  Thanks for that list, I will keep them in mind.  I know you’ve suggested Prison Playbook so I might check that out if I get a chance.  I haven’t had the time to binge watch.  This quarter leading up to Christmas is always the worst on my calendar when it comes to busyness.  I was going to try Melting Me Softly just for light hearted viewing but the whole thing is coming across as very cheesy to me so I am not in the mood for that right now.

@staygold yeah I don’t have great hopes for Vagabond but I may watch just to keep in the loop with the banter/conversations happening in @packmule3‘s blog.  .  Sometimes I just read recaps and watch snippets just to join in the conversations there... like I did with Hotel DeLuna.
