This just in (source: twitter), LOTBS will be back on Phil. TV, primetime  !  It was just shown as an afternoon show last month but it rated so well (even better that the other drama which was aired same month but in primetime) so now they  are bringing it back, and this time in Primetime.

Hi Kris Silva, thanks for sharing this good news. Usually, the program is being aired twice in the same year due to high demand from viewers. .. In other cases, program is being aired 2x because there are no original dramas (local dramas) going to be aired by the network:tongue:

Hi guys!

even though you may not be a big fan of BOF, I would encourage you to watch the scene on the bridge at Macau with LMH and GHS.  Just watch LMH's expression and delivery of that scene; it's just so good.  My chingu, @minekas, will be the host of episode 14 this week!

BOYS OVER FLOWERS- EPISODE FOURTEEN

Episode fourteen is a tearjerker and things can only go further downhill from here, so buckle up, Chingus.

Heads of JK group arrive in Macau to negotiate a huge business collaboration with Shinhwa  group which is obviously expected generate  a great deal of money.  President Kang seems to  have ulterior motives behind it and Jun Pyo may just be a pawn in the game that she is playing. His schedule as the newly appointed Managing Director is jam –packed and he’s too busy, even to see his best friends. Therefore, Secretary Jung goes out of his way to bring him to meet the F3 at an odd place- a basketball court. However, Jun Pyo is not all that happy to see them.  Ji Hoo seems have got a grasp of the situation while Woo Bin is puzzled and the moment Yi Jung mentions Jandi, trouble stirs up between Jun Pyo and the F3 and Yi Jung ends up punching Jun Pyo.:o

Yi Jung tries to open up to Jandi about Jun Pyo’s changed behavior and Woo Bin assures that it’s probably due to stress.  Surprisingly she’s already aware of it and determined to hear the truth from Jun Pyo himself. To divert Jandi’s mood they suggest playing a game of hide and seek with masks on!  Jandi puts up a cheerful face in front of them but when she sees a commercial of Jun Pyo on a large TV screen she breaks down in tears and Ji Hoo tries to comfort her.:)

Ji Hoo realizing that Jandi needs closure, pleads with Jun Pyo to meet her.

After much deliberation he escorts Jandi to Jun Pyo. And there he is on the bridge so distant and cold and for the first time she‘s at a loss for words around him. And oh my gawd! He breaks her heart into a million pieces with his callous dismissal and his remarks about her being ‘a stain that he wanted to erase’ is totally uncalled for. :bawling:

JD:  Pretending to not see me, and not wanting to see me… you’re saying that you really meant it. So, to you I’m..

JP: Like a stain I want to erase.

During the entire conversation Jun Pyo is being unemotional and stiff like a robot and then they walk in opposite directions. Jandi crying out loud while riding the gondola, the gondolier singing ‘Con te partiro  for her and the flashback montage of her good times with Jun Pyo, made me really sad.

Cr Just A Girl

Then we see the truth that Jun Pyo is trying to hide. He storms into mama Kang’s room in a rage and confronts her and their conversation reveals that he has made pact a with her to breakup with Jandi and in return she will leave her alone. :(

Spoiler

JP Is the president satisfied now that everything’s the way you want?

Mama Kang:  I don’t know. Merely hearing about the likes of that girl doesn’t make me happy.

JP she’s not “that kind of girl’ SHE IS THE FIRST GIRL THAT YOUR SON EVER LOVED.

Mama Kang: Alright. So what are you going to do? Do you want to throw everything away and run to her side? Shinhwa group, it’s employees, your future. Fine.  But what about your father?

The moment she mentions his father, his anger subsides and his eyes are filled with tears and he asks her to stop. Mama Kang continues.

Your father who tried his best until the end for this company,   something that you would toss away without hesitation. Are you planning on throwing him away too? What shall I do with that girl Jandi? Should I make it so she can’t live anywhere in Korea?

JP stop. I told you to stop. Don’t mess with Jandi. If you break your promise, I’ll destroy everything.:o

Photo cr Dramabeans

It’s a relief to see Jandi spending the following day with Ji Hoo, smiling and having fun. Then we see Jun Pyo walking by and spotting Jandi looking admiringly at a pretty pair of shoes.  Later, Jae Kyung visits the same store where Jandi was at earlier and just when she touches the same shoes, Jun Pyo tries to grab it from her.  Aww, he still has feelings for Jandi and doesn’t want to break up with her, for real.

Jun Pyo’s first encounter with Jae Kyung made me nervous as she seemingly has a cheerful and down to earth personality which is similar to that of Jandi’s. If Jun Pyo had met her first, would he have fallen for her?  I wonder whether anyone else would have the audacity to defy the most feared man in Shinhwa high school and make him fall head over heels for her?  And it is also their social inequality that made him humble himself and willing to transform from being a jerk to a decent man, in his pursuit to win her heart. Therefore, I cannot help but to believe that Jun Pyo and Jandi are meant to be together.:)

Cr KoreaNice

That night, mama Kang is satisfied after hearing favorable reports from the Secretary about Jun Pyo and Jandi. OMG, Instead of focusing on his work he’s tearfully watching  a slide show of Jandi’s pictures. And when the video message  from her is being played, he gets up to leave. Although he longs so much to be with her, he suddenly recollects the promise that he made to his father when he was a child. Torn between fulfilling his promise   and giving up the love of his life he screams in frustration and huddles on the floor.:(

And finally we see an image of Ji Hoo, Jandi and Jun Pyo, giving us an impression of their love triangle.

My comments

Oh my gawd! I felt the excruciating emotions of rejection, sacrifice, frustration, angst and longing as I watched Jun Pyo and Jandi’s breakup ordeal.  I developed a lot of sympathy for Jun Pyo for having an evil mother who is capable of even harming someone  else’s child to protect her own child. Although his lonely inner struggle after abandoning everyone near and dear to him is undeniable, being brutal and disrespectful towards Jandi and taking away her right to know the truth is not acceptable to me. However, how can I not feel for Jun Pyo who chose to break up with Jandi in order to fiercely and unselfishly protect her?  I’m surprised that he felt so strong about the promise that he made to his father as we only know that he grew up in a loveless family environment. Perhaps the only person who understands his mind is Secretary Jung who has been a father figure to him since he was a child.

As for Minho’s acting, I loved how he used  his facial expressions to portray Jun Pyo’s conflicted emotions and thereby reaching one of his best performances in this series. We often say that he can act really well with his eyes alone but did you notice how his frontal neck area was shivering and showing a swallowing movement when he was crying while watching the photos and video of Jandi, it is even more noticeable in him because of his large Adam’s apple (now I’m blushed and I want to run).

Spoiler

On the other hand, Jand  is at crossroads not being able to figure out what the future holds for  her after her dream of becoming a swimming champion was  shattered and on top of that the man who she deeply  loved and trusted failed to keep his promise. I really felt sorry for her when she approached Jun Pyo first to find out how he had been doing despite her nervousness and vulnerability to face him and for her to get that affection trampled on with his ‘fake break up’, must have hurt a lot.:(

Although Ji Hoo’s loyalty is indisputable, it will be hard for him to suppress his feelings for Jandi as he spends more time with her knowing that her future with Jun Pyo is almost impossible.  Still, I’m relieved that the camaraderie between Jandi and F3, especially Ji Hoo will help her through these trying times. Interestingly Yi Jung and Woo Bin  too have come a long way to take care of Jandi as if she’s their own  little sister, especially how Yi Jung confronted Jun Pyo shows that he won’t let him hurt her.  And oh! the way Woo Bin said “don’t worry buddy”, like a big brother, is really cool.

8) The filming was continued, we followed you and looked at you far away. Sometimes we found you jumped up and down, we thought you were full of energy, but it was the midnight already. Haha, so you were afraid of mosquitoes, actually you would be bite by mosquitoes, suddenly I felt I envy mosquitoes a little…….may I say it was the first time I envy mosquitoes ? (And I felt sorry for you, because before Director said “OK”, you had to endure.)

9) The filming was over, you came back with other 3 persons, before we understood what’s going on, you came to our side and hold the right hand of each of us by your left hand. Your hand was warm and soft, that grip was like the encouragement and communication between friends, everything beyond words. Was that real ? I couldn’t believe it ! Let the time freeze, I made the record, that time ~ 1:00am in Korea, 12:00 in Beijing.

10) Back to hotel. Finally you could take a rest after hard works of one day. And to us, a real and beautiful day was over !

This day, too many thanks, too much moved, too much warmth, too many memories, too much of everything……because of you, because of you all.

This day, too much happiness, too many lucks, too much appreciation, too many memories, too much of everything………because of me, because of us.

Thankful, moved, grateful !

Thank you so much for this translation of fan visit to GB site. Love it.

Hi CarolynH, I wonder what's the reason why he prefers to do movies rather dramas, huh? I guess one of the reasons is TIME - Most television series are huge commitments of time. Like months on end. Even if you are not the protagonist, you may have to return for reshoots, ADR (additional dialogue recording) and promotional tours. Films are relatively compact entities where you make the film, do additional shooting/reshoots, some ADR and CGI rework and then some promotional. It's rare when the time spent on making a film exceeds that spent making a television series. Another factor is MONEY - Most television actors earn far less than their film counterparts. Why would an A-list actor use valuable time that they could use to make millions to earn somewhat less on television? Another is PRESTIGE - Everybody in the world can see a film. People in your home country or the nation where you are filming the series are the primary audiences for a television show. The scale of endeavor isn't as huge (with few exceptions) when you are making a film vs. a television series. For a long time, at least in the US, movies were higher prestige than television. With TV there are restrictions on how much sex, violence, and other adult content you can get away with showing. The result is you tend to get "safe" shows, which some actors might not find all that interesting.  With a movie you can make the picture you want to make with far less artistic compromise. It may have to be a smaller release or work on a smaller budget, but it can happen. To make it simpler, movies usually carry far less of a time commitment, with greater monetary compensation, and more likelihood of international exposure.

One thing though, I like dramas as we can see more of him and we get to see it the same time as in Korea. His movies never screened in my theaters and I was so disappointed, , had to wait months to finally see him on DramaFever.

I found your post very comforting chingu I'm not sad anymore. Eider's cfs with Minho are my favorite, but I agree with you now I want him to try endorsing new brands when he comes back there are so many great ones out there to which his image would match well. but no CK undies please.. though the fangirl in me is screaming YES PLEASE!

he had expressed his willingness to be a movie star in many occasions so I guess his comeback project would definitely be a film, and I as well would love to see him in a movie rather than a drama (the promotions for movies are much more fun than those for dramas, we'd see him more during stage greetings and there will be more movie talks/interviews. and I believe movies help actors to grow as actors more than dramas, he'll get to learn more). I'll be hated for saying this but I want to see him as a villain someday. I'd love to see him in a melodrama as well, he can be a good guy in this genre and better make us all cry

I take Jong Dae as his debut as a mature man, the character was the most mature one out of all Minho's roles and he represented it very impressively I'm head over heals in love with him. or do you mean when LMH himself is a mature man? lol I think it'd take forever

I agree Jong Dae is his debut as a mature man. Loved his portrayal of Jong Dae.

Episode 14 is one of the best, like DB says, bad on Monday and good on Tuesday. Starts with the grown up GYP handling business like a pro and head of Shinwa but we see he spies on what JD is doing with the others. When the F3 are so protective of JD to shield her from hurt. Yi Jung even attack their F4 leader because of JD. Their helping her to forgot her sadness. Ji Hoo stops them from going to the restaurant when he sees GJP and mom.

When JD thought about the times they were together. She never wanted to be with GJP but he won her heart and she trusted him. This was a big betrayal to her. When he coolly says that she is a stain to forget, she is completely devastated. The F3 rally around her. Ji Hoo her protector. Then you see that GJP had some sort of a pact with his mother who threatened JD. He could have stood up to her and say. Yes I will run the company as I promised dad but I want to continue dating JD. If you don't agree, I will step down and leave. Give her the ultimatum. I guess he is afraid of his mother.

It was also heartbreaking to see GJP looking at the photos and listening to her video message, then he sees the video of his dead father. The conflict on his face is distressing and you feel for him. But we see bits of the young JP when he wants to sleep but is tortured by the bugle blowing. Then we see him stick his tongue out at Jae Kyung. You realize he is still a little boy at heart despite the burden of being an adult and responsible for 700,000 employees.

I like the actress who acted as Jae Kyung. I wonder if she still acts today. I have not seen her since BOF. She would be a good leading lady with LMH. They have charisma together. She is pretty and she has spunk. I liked it when they bicker over the pair of shoes. GJP wants to pretend to be over JD yet he wants to buy her shoes and tracks  her activities and where she is. That would be so confusing to poor JD. LMH excels here with his cold sneer and conflicted tears and anger at his mom. As DB said without LMH , BOF would have no center where everything revolves. It cannot survive without LMH. Ji Hoo has his sweet moments with Jan Di and he is really a good friend. Without him being with her, JD would be broken and lost.

I'm glad you included that image of Mr. Jung with the F4 kids.  I think it shows the role he plays for them.  It seems he knows them better than anyone and cares for them more.

Thanks for including the MV of "A Little" by Seo Ji-young.  The lyrics are very touching.

My thoughts on BOF episode 14:

This episode was not boring like the last one; instead, it was tear-jerking, at least for me.  If you didn’t get at least one tear in your eye, I would say that you are unfeeling.

This beautiful image at the start might make you think that this will be a sleepy, shmexy, silly episode.  Think again.

Gu Jun-pyo still has no time for Jan-di or for his friends.  (He bemoans his busy schedule while practicing golf!)

Spoiler

tumblr_ouv9aszLnG1w2zf0ho2_540.png

I liked Ji-hoo quite a bit in this episode.  For whatever reason, he is more believable and likeable to me.  I think he’s doing for Jan-di what Jan-di did for him when he followed Seo-hyun to Paris.  At that time, Jan-di was crushing on Ji-hoo, but she put that aside and thought of him and his desires.  Now he’s doing the same for her.  The soulmate quality which they share is to stand by a friend no matter what.  JH stands by JD and JP.  The events of this episode certainly gave the second lead a boost.

GJP's words to F3 were eye-opening to them.  Hearing that Jan-di can no longer swim, was eye-opening to him.

The scene on the bridge is fantastic, yet devastating!  Gu Jun-pyo is not all wrong in what he says.  But no way did he need to call her a stain!!  (There's not some lame dry cleaner joke there, is there?)  He won’t look at her for the longest time and appears to be without emotion.  Did he rehearse what he was going to say?  I am dying because I am believing what he is saying!  Thankfully, we only have to wait five minutes (when he confronts his mom) before we learn that Gu Jun-pyo was dying too.  He wanted to say these words:

tumblr_ouv9gljylg1w2zf0ho1_540.png

I’ve never been so happy to see Mama Kang rifling through snapshots as when she was looking at the photos of Jun-pyo on the bridge.  Yes!  It was a show for her.  But more than a show, Jun-pyo made a promise to her to stay away from Jan-di, and in exchange Mama would leave Jan-di alone.  When he talks of a promise, I think this is the one he means.  The childhood promise to his dad which he later recalled was an expectation he grew up with as a chaebol heir.  The reality of it is now sinking in.  That memory of the airplane makes us imagine lots of happy father-and-son moments, but Jun-pyo could probably count them on one hand

tumblr_ouv9nkHi421w2zf0ho1_540.png

A lot of us are thinking, why does there have to be a conflict?  Can’t Jun-pyo lead Shinhwa and be with Jan-di?  Yi-jung explained it in the beginning—that it doesn’t work that way for F4.  Particularly right now as Shinhwa is in crisis, they are forging a partnership with JK Group.  These deals are made by joining families, so Jae-kyung, not Jan-di, is the one for Jun-pyo.

Jae-kyung is likeable.  What will Gu Jun-pyo do?

Spoiler

I really like this comment.  Jan-di is in herself unique to Jun-pyo.

Actually it seems that what is viewed to be Jandi's weaknesses and lackings in the world's viewpoint are what is memorable, priceless and uniquely Jandi to JunPyo. All the memories they shared, the new things JunPyo experienced and learned..the bond between them, the hardships the two of them went through...etc can never be replaced by the "better upgrade" fiance girl.

@minekas Excellent job my friend!

BOYS OVER FLOWERS episode 14- my thoughts

IM not sure why Ji Hoo would be upset seeing GJP having dinner at the restaurant when it's likely the mother chose the restaurant.  And it's not as though GJP is having fun.  Why would Secretary Jung send GJP photos of JiHoo and jandi together knowing it won't upset GJP?  Was it to push GJP into doing something?

i found the scene at the basketball court with the F4 sad.  I thought the F3 were a little harsh on GJP..  I can't say that I feel too sorry for Jandi because she has hurt him in the past.

OMG, the scene on the bridge so tragic.   Well acted from both LMH and GHS.  I'd love to see LMH play a cold hearted character; I think he'd be terrific.

Another OMG, the scene with GJP and his mother.  Torn between the girl he loves and his father.  Actually the father doesn't seem much of a father.  Secretary Jung is much more a father than the biological father.  I think sec. Jung is there for GJP but more like a parent than a friend.

but thankfully the scene between GJP and Jae Kyung provides us with a smile.  IMO, she's a better match for GJP.

Now how did the random video with father at the airport show up when GJP was looking at the pictures of Jandi in the conference room?

It's nice that Jandi has Ji Hoo to hang out with and have fun while poor GJP has no fun, constantly working.

looking forward to episode 15 with another of my favorite scenes.

Poor GJP got his hands tied, he had to choose between JD and F3, and the 700,000 employees of Shinhwa group. With the death of his father, he needed to step up to the plate and make the mature decision of leading the Shinhwa group. But all at the expense of his happiness. He had to push JD and F3 away. And I must say, he did a great job at that. In the basketball scene, him acting like a jerk to his childhood friends, really got F3 disappointed at JP. But because of that, we saw how the F3 has learned to protect and care for JD. YJ even ended up punching GJP.

The bridge scene was one of the heartbreaking scenes in the series. When we say that LMH can act with his eyes alone, well, in this scene, I could feel his eyes piercing through JD's heart. And shattering it to a million pieces. Poor JD, left behind and held on for six long months, and now this? And poor GJP, it must have been painful to push away the woman he loves. The first woman he's ever loved.

In the boardroom, the slideshow of photos of JD that GJP was viewing must have been made by JH, since it came with the video that JH setup in the last episode, where JD taped a message to GJP. And this brought back their memories. Well, including the memory with his father on the plane. I'd like to believe that the plane scene was only a memory (although it was shown on the screen). It would be weird and conflicting if JH gave a video of JD's message together with a video of GJP making a promise to his father. Unless mama Kang intercepted and altered the video. Haha.

I kind of felt at ease, when GJP went out of his way to buy the shoes for JD. At least he still loves her, but now he would have to love her from afar. :(

On the other hand, it must be hard for JH to see JD, the one he loves, or at least cares for now, get her heart broken by his own bestfriend. And it's selfless of him to be just beside JD, when he clearly knows that he was once the guy JD was longing for. But now the tides have turned.

Annyeong SooMZies!  Let me add my comments on BOF epi 14 which is my most fave .

To me, epi 14 (or at least its first 2/3) is the most angst-filled epi of BOF and some of you may remember how I love me some angst. Of course it helped that LMH carried his re-entry to the drama like a cannonball in both words and actions.

From the 1st gondola scene to the conference room, I remember being very pleasantly surprised with everyone's acting.

    1.  The Gym Meeting: It struck me at this point that Jandi is no longer just JP's girl but an F5. The fact that it was YJ (and not JH, her emergency bell) who admonished him about his coldness toward JD showed that the F3 considered her as their equal.
    2.  The JP-JH Poolside Talk: (I remember being awestruck by LMH's beauty in the dramatic lighting. For the 1st time, I had the urge to run my fingers through those curls,) This was a conversation between two adults, no longer the kids they were. At this point, we didn't know what was going on in JP's mind except for the burden of his duty for SH, but the way he talked to and looked at JH showed his warm and soft side. LMH's acting was also superb: darkly brooding then doubtful then sad and melancholy.
    3. The Bridge Break-Up: (I haven't gone to their Macau loc, but after watching this the first time, I had to revisit The Venetian in LV and have my own moment at The Bridge  ) I truly empathized with JD for the first time ever. JP's words (and voice!) cut my heart like a knife. The following scene at the gondola made me shed tears for JD.
    4. The Mama Kang Confrontation: (Wow. Just wow. This scene alone may have won LMH the Most Outstanding Performance by a Rookie in the Baeksang that year. The sheer number of emotions he showed in just two minutes of screen time was astounding: rage to frustration to grief then threatening resolve left me awestruck by his controlled acting. I was amazed by how he managed to keep the tears that were slowly building up not to fall, in perfect sync with his emotions. Bravo!) The revelation that it was all an act to protect JD was heartbreaking. As if it wasn't enough to burden him with the duty to keep SH alive for his Dad, Evil Mom had to add the threat to JD in order to rein in his son. Whattalife!
    5. The Conference Room Cry-Cry: waaah, I didn't think that I would shed so many tears for this drama, but I did here. (Of course, LMH has very much improved on his crying since then) His struggle between duty to the family and what his heart wants was so deftly dramatized in this very simple scene. The angst was overflowing :(

So now you know how much this episode touched me.
A few nagging thoughts though:
>>why did JD have to dramatically say goodbye and thank you to JH before leaving for Macau? Did she think that she wouldn't come back? That JP would ask her to stay with him in Macau?
>>what's the thematic reason behind JH and JD's extra days in Macau? I didn't think that the story moved any better...unless its sheer purpose is to show how JP showed remorse for his actions toward JD. But then that could have happened even if they left the next day.

P.S. I have to say that I loved the addition of JK. I also thought that she was a better match for JP hence I feared how the writers would develop the story such that JP would believably want to stay with JD.

Gomawo-yo chingus for the recaps and all the updates and commentaries!

Now how did the random video with father at the airport show up when GJP was looking at the pictures of Jandi in the conference room?

Just like @syntyche , Dramabeans had the same idea, that it wasn't an actual video but JP's memory. I didn't think it was at first but now rewatching the episode, it makes a lot of sense...

from Dramabeans:

Just as he starts to leave, something seizes his attention — in place of the slideshow are old memories of him and his father. (The editing makes it seem for a moment that he’s watching video footage, but I’m pretty sure they’re in his head. If only because it’s crazy to think this particular conversation just happened to be recorded fifteen years ago. Not that BBF is known for its logic.) In the memories, a young Jun-pyo is with his loving father (uh, character inconsistency?), who asks, “What will you do when I’m not around?” Young Jun-pyo proudly makes a man-to-man promise, “I’ll take care of Mom, Noona, and Shinhwa Group.”   It’s his guilty conscience flaring, to keep him from throwing away his position for Jan-di. Torn between both very strong impulses, Jun-pyo bellows in frustration and sinks to the ground.

So happy to see more Soompi Minoz joining the rewatch and sharing their thoughts on BOF.  :)
