The first teaser for the Genie TV original series Midnight Photo Studio has been released.

Midnight Photo Studio unfolds the story of Seo Ki Joo, a photographer who runs a photo studio only for ghosts, and Han Bom, a passionate lawyer who ends up working with him.

The teaser commences by showing the door of an intriguing studio swinging open. The interior of the studio, adorned with the patina of time and peculiar cameras, leaves viewers wondering about the nature of this place. Moreover, eerie sounds on top of the mysterious ambiance further stimulate viewers' imagination.

Seo Ki Joo (Joo Won) is the 7th generation photographer managing this mysterious photo studio passed down through generations in his family. Soon, lawyer Han Bom (Kwon Na Ra) finds herself entangled in this peculiar photo studio as well.

The customers of this photo studio are far from ordinary. This is evident in the scene where Ki Joo captures Bom's image, and a ghost appears as Ki Joo presses the shutter after saying, "Then, let's take the picture." This studio is a place that welcomes the deceased who have treaded the difficult path back from the afterlife out of sheer desperation. This is the reason it is only open at night.

rN0DrZ_2f.png

The purpose of this photo studio is to take pictures to relieve the desperation of ghosts and help them ascend to heaven.

Thus, whatever happens here is both eerie and heart-wrenching. As depicted, Ki Joo sometimes finds himself being grabbed by an angry ghost, while other times, he desperately runs away to avoid the ghosts that attack him in droves. However, amidst the chaos and fear, there are moments of humor to give comic relief.

The production team stated, "The long-awaited Midnight Photo Studio will premiere on March 11 at 10 p.m. (KST)," and added, "Please look forward to the drama and see what kind of various happenings will unfold in this strange photo studio that operates only at night and accepts ghosts as guests."

The Midnight Photo Studio is open for business

by Jenzy

ENA has started up promos for their fantasy drama Midnight Photo Studio, starring Joo-won (Stealer: The Treasure Keeper) and Kwon Nara (Bulgasal: Immortal Souls). In the teaser that just released, we’re introduced to the mysterious studio that serves ghostly apparitions in the late hours of the night.

Joo-won plays Seo Ki-joo, the photographer and manager of the photo studio. He takes portraits of souls that decided to make a U-turn on their journey to the afterlife. By his side is plucky lawyer Han Bom (Kwon Nara), who fights for justice of the undead. Together, their studio gives the deceased the closure they need to get back on track to their next life, but this work is easier said than done when it comes to particularly vengeful ghosts.

Thankfully, it isn’t just the two of them keeping their unconventional business afloat. Assistant manager Go Dae-ri, played by Yoo In-soo (Daily Dose of Sunshine), and workplace errand boy Baek Nam-gu, played by Eum Moon-seok (Good Job), offer unrelenting service with a smile to the most disgruntled customers known to man. And they would definitely appreciate it if you left a 5-star Yelp review.

The teaser is a playful rib on the show’s Korean title, which translates directly into sexy photo studio. We open with some romantic jazz and lingering shots of our leads staring into each other’s eyes. The steamy tension builds as Ki-joo positions Bom in front of the camera and prepares to take her photo. But when Ki-joo presses the shutter and Bom transforms into a ghost, the truth is revealed. What makes this business risque isn’t some provocative inclination, but the scandalous nature of their late night customers.

And work could be described as anything but sexy. We see cuts of Ki-joo being chased, choked, and generally inconvenienced by rigors of his job. Still, that’s just a regular day at the Midnight Photo Studio, since the teaser wraps with the team opening the studio for business the next night, ready to do it all again.

Written by Kim Yi-rang (Flower Crew: Joseon Marriage Agency) and directed by Song Hyun-wook (The Golden Spoon), Midnight Photo Studio will premiere March 11 on Genie TV and ENA.

20240214113143_Joo-Won-Midnight-Studio.jJoo Won Shares Sneak Peek Of His Life As Photographer Dealing With Ghostly Guests In New Drama “Midnight Studio”

Feb 14, 2024
by M. Lim

ENA’s upcoming drama “Midnight Studio” has unveiled a sneak peek of Joo Won in character!

“Midnight Studio” tells the thrilling yet mysterious story about a prickly photographer who runs a professional photo studio that only exists for the deceased and a passionate lawyer as they cross life and death with the night guests. The drama will star Joo Won, Kwon Nara, Yoo In Soo, and Eum Moon Suk, and it will be helmed by director Song Hyun Wook of “Another Oh Hae Young,” “Beauty Inside,” and “The Golden Spoon.”

Joo Won stars as Seo Ki Joo, a photographer and the owner of the mysterious photo studio that only opens at night, catering exclusively to ghostly guests. Seo Ki Joo is the seventh-generation photographer of a ghost-specializing photography studio passed down through his family for generations.

His work begins when souls who are unable to leave this world and ascend to heaven for their own compelling reasons seek refuge within his studio’s walls at night. Seo Ki Joo’s job is to take pictures of his guests with his magical camera and help them ease their desperation. Having to deal with all kinds of guests, even those with entitled attitudes, made his demeanor grow prickly, yet his sincerity to his craft remains unwavering.

Joo-Won-Midnight-Studio-3.jpeg

When the sun rises, the studio shuts its doors, but Seo Ki Joo’s routine doesn’t return to normalcy. Having witnessed the unseen since childhood, he’s the only human who can listen to the ghosts’ stories, so he often spends his daylight hours with various spirits as well. Despite 20 years of experience operating the studio, he grapples with insomnia and anxiety, haunted by nocturnal disturbances and unexpected attacks. He finds solace only within the chapel, where it is a ghost-free zone, the only place he can sleep peacefully.

Moreover, Seo Ki Joo also harbors an extraordinary secret as enigmatic as his visitors. Tasked with capturing the final moments of ghostly guests for generations, he bears an additional burden—a curse of not being able to live past 35. However, with the arrival of Han Bom (Kwon Nara), a passionate lawyer who possesses extraordinary abilities, Seo Ki Joo sees the possibility that his fate could change.

We hope you will join us for the opening of ‘Midnight Studio,’ which is coming up in about a month.”

The upcoming Genie TV original series Midnight Photo Studio drops stills featuring Joo Won.

Midnight Photo Studio unfolds the story of Seo Ki Joo, a photographer who runs a photo studio only for ghosts, and Han Bom, a passionate lawyer who ends up working with him.

Actor Joo Won takes on the role of photographer Seo Ki Joo, who deals with guests visiting the studio, which is open only at night. He tries to capture an array of eclectic life shots of people who have left this world.

The still cuts give a glimpse into the extraordinary life of Seo Ki Joo. Ki Joo is the seventh-generation photographer of a special photo studio that has been passed down through generations in his family.

2wg8O2_2f.png

When the dead can't leave for the afterlife due to their desperate circumstances, they come to the studio in the middle of the night. That's when the real work begins.

E5rE25_2f.png

Ki Joo's job is to take photos of the guests with a magical camera to satisfy their earnest desire.

When the sun rises, the studio's doors close, but Joo Won's day doesn't become ordinary. Having grown up seeing what others couldn't see and being the only human who can listen to the stories of the dead, he deals with numerous ghosts in his daily life.

He has already been running the photo studio for 20 years, and by this point, he's somewhat adept at dealing with ghosts. But, that doesn't mean his life is peaceful. He suffers from insomnia and has nervous breakdowns when his sleep is interrupted or when he is suddenly attacked. The only place where Joo Won can sleep peacefully is the chapel.

Xdrlwn_2f.png

In fact, he has a story that is just as strange as the guests he gets at his studio. Not only does he have to take the final photos of guests from generation to generation, but he's also cursed to live a short life, that prevents him from living past the age of thirty-five.
