JTBC's new Wednesday-Thursday drama, The Miracle Brothers, has confirmed its first broadcast on June 28th.

The Miracle Brothers is a human mystery drama that depicts the story of Yook Dong Joo, an aspiring writer burdened with debt, and Kang San, a mysterious boy with special abilities, as they cross the boundaries of time in search of the truth and create miracles. Directed by Park Chan Hong, a renowned director in the Korean drama industry, and written by Kim Ji Woo, it is their 11th work that has garnered attention. With insightful perspectives on humanity, profound storytelling, and the power that permeates Korean drama history, the duo is raising expectations about the story that will resonate with viewers this time. And joining this miraculous journey of the veteran duo are actors Jung Woo and Bae Hyun Sung.

Jung Woo, an actor known for seamlessly blending into any genre with his versatile acting skills, will portray the aspiring writer Yook Dong Joo. Despite showing talent in writing as his father, who loved poet Yoon Dong Joo, named him, Dong Joo has been unable to debut for seven years since graduating with a degree in Korean literature. Struggling with a life filled with nothing but debt and a reckless mother, he makes a living through various part-time jobs while writing novels. One day, a boy of unknown identity suddenly appears in Dong Joo's seemingly hopeless life, entangling him in an unexpected mystery.

Bae Hyun Sung, the rising star in the entertainment industry, hailed as the next-generation leading actor, takes on the role of Kang San, a mysterious boy with special abilities. After an accident, Kang San loses his memory and doesn't remember his name or age. However, he possesses a mysterious ability that he doesn't know when it started. He can physically feel the pain and despair of others and hear the voice of their hearts. Although he could ignore it when he sees and hears them, Kang San sincerely cannot tolerate injustice and rushes to their aid.

The production team stated, "The drama follows Dong Joo, an emotionally deprived individual, and Kang San, who jumps into the suffering of others without calculation, as they embark on a journey to uncover the truth connected to the past. Through this, director Park Chan Hong and writer Kim Ji Woo aim to create the miracle they want to bring into this world. We hope that viewers will anticipate how deeply they will touch the audience's hearts and how Jung Woo and Bae Hyun Sung will navigate this path."

JTBC's new Wednesday-Thursday drama, The Miracle Brothers, will premiere on June 28th at 10:30 PM.

Jung Woo and Bae Hyun-sung become JTBC’s Miracle Brothers

by tccolb

AKR20230530068700005_01_i_P4.jpg

JTBC has released their first promo stills for the new mystery-fantasy Miracle Brothers, giving us a quick peek at our two main leads: Jung Woo (Mental Coach Jegal) and Bae Hyun-sung (Gaus Electronics).

In a mysterious but heartwarming tale about friendship, Jung Woo takes on the role of our struggling hero Yook Dong-joo. His father had named him after the great 20th century poet Yoon Dong-joo, whom he admired, and our story’s Dong-joo aspires to follow in his namesake’s footsteps.

But life has not been kind thus far and Dong-joo has failed to debut any of his novels, despite trying his best for the last seven years. As such, he works an array of part-time jobs to pay the bills – in addition to the debt accumulated by his troublemaker mom.

The last thing Dong-joo needs is another responsibility and this, of course, is when we meet Kang San – played by Bae Hyun-sung – who gets put in Dong-joo’s care. Following an unfortunate turn of events, San loses all memory – including his own identity – and he’s unsure how or when he gained his special abilities. Almost like being telepathic, San can feel the pain and desperation of others in his own body, and is compassionate to the pleas of their hearts. Unable to turn a blind eye to injustice, San is quick to jump in and help – which then forces Dong-joo to also get involved.

In supportive roles, the drama also stars Park Yu-rim (Extraordinary Attorney Woo), Lee Ki-woo (Agency), Oh Man-seok (The Secret Romantic Guesthouse), and Jo Bok-rae (Agency).

On the production side, the team will be headed by the creators of Wonderful World, PD Park Chan-hong and writer Kim Ji-woo. Having had a long history (24 years!) of working together, this new series marks their eleventh collaboration.

Following The Good Bad Mother in the Wednesday-Thursday slot, JTBC’s Miracle Brothers premieres next month on June 28.

Jung Woo and Bae Hyun-sung join hands as Miracle Brothers

by solstices

Aww, I like this duo already! JTBC’s upcoming drama Miracle Brothers looks like a heartwarming slice-of-life with a dash of fantasy sprinkled in, and I’m already ready for mama hen Jung Woo (Mental Coach Jegal) to take the baby duckling Bae Hyun-sung (Gaus Electronics) under his wing.

Named after the renowned poet Yoon Dong-joo, our diligent protagonist Yook Dong-joo (Jung Woo) lives a humble life that’s far different from what he envisions. Unlike his dreams of becoming a bestselling author, Dong-joo spends his days running between part-time jobs and cramming a triangle kimbap into his mouth while on the go. It’s a far cry from his ambitious goal, and he makes up for the difference by pouring a hundred and ten percent of his fiery fighting spirit into everything he does. (That includes lots of aggrieved shouting.)

Everything changes one rainy night, however, when a body suddenly soars through the air and lands right on Dong-joo’s windshield. For a moment, Dong-joo fears the worst — is he going to become a criminal on top of everything else?! — until the accident victim Kang San (Bae Hyun-sung) wakes up in his hospital bed. Thankfully, he’s physically fine. A little too fine, in fact, because San now has super strength. (Dong-joo witnesses this firsthand when San sends a grown man flying out of his hospital ward.)

Bewildered by San’s strange powers, a flabbergasted Dong-joo can’t help but quiver nervously in San’s presence. Meanwhile, San is oddly calm and composed for an amnesia patient. Since he can’t recall anything about himself, San decides that he’ll just follow Dong-joo home. New brother: acquired!

The teaser doesn’t showcase the rest of San’s abilities, but according to his official character description, San is able to feel the pain and desperation of others as if his own body is experiencing it. That already sounds torturous enough — it sounds like San can’t help but read others’ hearts, whether he likes it or not — but there’s one more catch. San refuses to tolerate even the smallest injustice, which means he’s going to do everything within his power to help the people he encounters. And of course, that means Dong-joo’s coming along for the ride!

Helmed by PD Park Chan-hong and writer Kim Ji-woo, who both previously worked on Beautiful World together, Miracle Brothers is slated for a June 28 premiere.

Watch: Bae Hyun Sung And Jung Woo Have A Strange First Meeting In New Teaser For Upcoming Drama

Jun 7, 2023
by AliG

20230605010836_jung-woo-bae-hyun-sung.pn

The official teaser for Jung Woo and Bae Hyun Sung’s new JTBC drama is finally here!

“Miracle Brothers” (literal translation) is a mystery drama centering around Yook Dong Joo (Jung Woo), an aspiring writer with tons of debt, and a mysterious boy named Kang San (Bae Hyun Sung), who has unique powers. The story focuses on the process of creating miracles that go beyond the limits of time. The newly released teaser gives viewers their very first glimpse at these two mysterious people, revealing that their fateful meeting left one a victim and the other a perpetrator. How do they eventually come to be “brothers,” and what kinds of twists and turns await them?

The trailer starts out showing Yook Dong Joo going about his part-time job, his dream of being a famous writer nothing more than that—a dream. Meanwhile, his mother (So Hee Jung) appears to have lost their lease.

The scene changes to show Yook Dong Joo driving along in his car on a stormy night, yelling into the night in apparent anger. Suddenly, lightning flashes across the sky, and a person crashes directly into his car.

Miraculously enough, the victim of the car accident wakes up. But to Yook Dong Joo’s quick realization, this boy is a bit…odd. After only a short amount of time, the boy decides that he’ll call Yook Dong Joo his “brother” and then proceeds to confidently state, “I will go to my brother’s house.”

But the shock doesn’t end there. After seeing this mystery boy, who viewers will later learn is named Kang San, demonstrate some superhuman powers by making a man fly through the air and crash into a wall, Yook Dong Joo is rightfully spooked.

“I’m calm. Why are you so anxious?” Kang San asks. Despite Kang San technically being the victim, it’s quite ironic to see Yook Dong Joo being the one who is so spooked.

What kinds of miracles will this unlikely duo create, and what does their story entail?

A producer from the show said, “The first teaser video released contains the first meeting between Yook Dong Joo and Kang San, brothers born by fate. A mysterious yet exciting story awaits viewers, exploring why the incident in which Yook Dong Joo is given a younger brother that he could have never imagined is fate and how it becomes a miracle.” They added, “We ask for your interest and excitement until the first broadcast on June 28.”

Bae Hyun Sung On Similarities With His Character In Upcoming Mystery Drama, Learning From Co-Star Jung Woo, And More

Jun 12, 2023
by S. Cho

Bae Hyun Sung has relayed his thoughts ahead of the premiere of his new drama!

JTBC’s “Miracle Brothers” (literal translation) is a mystery drama centering around Yook Dong Joo (Jung Woo), an aspiring writer with tons of debt, and a mysterious boy named Kang San (Bae Hyun Sung), who has unique powers. The story focuses on the process of creating miracles that go beyond the limits of time.

Bae Hyun Sung stars as the mysterious Kang San, who loses his memory after a car accident and forgets even his name and age. But when he awakes at the hospital, he discovers that he has developed the mysterious ability to personally feel others’ pain and despair, as well as see their memories and emotions. Although others may just try to block this out, Kang San makes it his responsibility to stand up against injustice and use his ability to help others.

On playing a character with such a righteous attitude, Bae Hyun Sung commented, “Since he’s someone with the ability to discern that what’s bad is bad and what’s wrong is wrong, I tried to add persuasive power to the character through a strong and firm gaze and honest emotions.”

Bae-Hyun-Sung-1-1.jpeg

Bae Hyun Sung then revealed that he was charmed by Kang San’s “kind, innocent, and bright personality that reminds one of a bright green spring, as well as his strong determination that is not easily influenced.” He elaborated, “I also listen to my friends’ stories well and laugh and cry with them, so I was really emotionally immersed in Kang San’s ability to empathize.”

When asked what he would do if granted the same power as Kang San, Bae Hyun Sung shared, “Like Kang San, I want to help those who are having a hard time because of worries they cannot speak about.”

Bae-Hyun-Sung-2-1.jpeg

Despite clearly being the perfect fit for the role of Kang San, fulfilling his first lead role was a separate hurdle for Bae Hyun Sung to overcome. Explaining that he overcame this pressure with the help of his co-star Jung Woo, Bae Hyun Sung commented, “At our first script practice, I remember being in awe watching Jung Woo’s acting. Once we began filming, he gave me a lot of compliments and advice. I also learned a lot of his comfortable and flexible acting. That’s why I tried to follow him well.”

The actor continued, “All the staff members on set, including the amazing director Park Chan Hong, were outstanding. That’s why I believe ‘Miracle Brothers’ will remain as a miracle-like project for me. It was a happy time where I learned and felt a lot.”

Bae-Hyun-Sung-3-2.jpeg

Recalling his first impression of the drama, Bae Hyun Sung shared, “When I first received the script, I was amazed to the point where I automatically said ‘wow’ and read it in one go. I felt a wide variety of emotions and shed some tears.”

He added, “Everyone harbors difficult emotions like pain, sadness, and anger. In this drama, Kang San heals those emotions, Dong Joo joins this journey, and they become ‘Miracle Brothers.’ I hope viewers will shake off their difficult emotions along with brothers Dong Joo and Kang San of the drama and that the miracle you’re hoping for comes.”

“Miracle Brothers” premieres on June 28 at 10:30 p.m. KST. Check out a teaser here!

Watch: Bae Hyun Sung Struggles To Control His Enigmatic Superpower In Upcoming Mystery Drama Teaser

Jun 17, 2023
by S. Cho

JTBC’s upcoming mystery drama has released a new teaser giving a close look at Bae Hyun Sung’s unique powers!

In the drama’s third teaser, Kang San wakes up in the hospital after an accident and realizes he’s developed a superpower, but is unable to pinpoint when and how it happened.

This power gives Kang San the ability to personally feel others’ pain and despair, as well as see their memories and emotions. As he takes in a child’s drawing on the wall and uses his power to learn more about it, Yook Dong Joo witnesses him and frantically asks what on earth he is. Kang San calmly responds, “I want to know too. How this happened.”

As Yook Dong Joo tries to comprehend that Kang San’s power essentially makes him telepathic, he questions whether he’s actually part of a cult. Kang San explains, “I can hear other people’s voices and see inexplicable scenes. That’s when I feel terrible pain.”

Eventually, bearing the pain of other people becomes too much for Kang San and the suffering starts taking over his life. His inability to control his power eventually impacts the world around him as his despair causes buildings around him to come crashing down.

While others may attempt to ignore this superpower, Kang San makes it his responsibility to stand up against injustice and use his ability to help others. This gives Dong Joo the opportunity to see into the lives of others, after he was once too busy to even take care of himself. Why have Kang San and Dong Joo found each other at such crucial points in their lives and how will they act as “Miracle Brothers” to help relieve others of pain and sadness?

The drama’s producers shared, “The story of how a boy, who doesn’t even know his age or name, gets tangled with aspiring writer Dong Joo, who’s fiercely living life, is a key point of the mystery that ‘Miracle Brothers’ must unravel. In the miracle-like episodes that happen when the telepathic Kang San leads Dong Joo to interfere in others’ lives, you will be able to feel the deep and unique love of humanity from the collaboration between director Park Chan Hong and writer Kim Ji Woo. Please look forward to the essence of this human mystery drama.”

JTBC's upcoming Wednesday-Thursday drama, The Miracle Brothers, has released a captivating preview a week ahead of its premiere.

Written by Kim Ji Woo and directed by Park Chan HongThe Miracle Brothers is a mystery drama that follows the story of an aspiring writer Yook Dong Joo, burdened by debt, who longs to become a successful writer. Alongside him is Kang San, a boy with unique abilities. The duo embarks on a quest to uncover the truth that transcends the boundaries of time, crafting miracles along the way.

The preview centers on Kang San's lost memories, revealing fragments of the unique storyline that is intended to captivate viewers in the episodes to come.

Dong Joo (Jung Woo) stumbles upon the manuscript of "God Is Dead" by sheer coincidence, and publishes it, rising to the stardom as a best-selling author. However, the murder case in the novel ominously comes to reality, leading Detective Park Hyeon Soo (Park Yoo Rim), to see Dong Joo as a prime suspect.

Anxious about the exposure of his plagiarism, Dong Joo responds to Hyeon Soo's inquiries about the origin and creation of the novel with a light-hearted laugh, questioning, "Is imagination a crime?". However, a sense of bewilderment is evident in his face and voice.

Dong Joo's uneasiness escalates when he encounters Kang San, a boy who lost his memories after a tragic traffic accident. As Kang San gradually recovers fragments of his lost memories, Dong Joo asks, "What do you remember?" to which Kang San cryptically responds, "It seems I have turned into a monster".

The connection between the real owner of the novel and Kang San raises suspicion, amplifying the impact of Dong Joo's remark: "I envy those who have no memories they want to forget and erase. Memories are truly wretched." Furthermore, he says, "Hell is empty, and all the devils are here", and the following scenes portray a series of brutal and inexplicable murders, while Dong Joo's encounter with the supernaturally gifted Kang San heightens the suspense to its zenith.

Lee Ki Woo Dishes On His “Miraculous Brothers” Character And Experience While Filming

Jun 27, 2023

Ahead of the “Miraculous Brothers” premiere, actor Lee Ki Woo has taken the time to introduce his character, reveal how he prepared for the role, and more!

JTBC’s “Miraculous Brothers” is a mystery drama about the miracles made through time and the search for truth by Yook Dong Joo (Jung Woo), an aspiring writer with tons of debt, and a mysterious boy named Kang San (Bae Hyun Sung), who has unique powers. The drama will be the 11th collaboration in 24 years between director Park Chan Hong and writer Kim Ji Woo.

Lee Ki Woo plays Lee Myung Seok, the president of a publishing company and the younger brother of Tae Kang Group’s chairman Lee Tae Man (Lee Sung Wook). He is a second generation chaebol who has both good looks and a clever brain. However, despite having everything, he feels inferior to his college classmate Yook Dong Joo.

Introducing his character, Lee Ki Woo shared “Myung Seok is a second generation chaebol who seems like an ordinary person and friendly on the outside, but in actuality, he is full of pretense, hypocrisy, and a sense of privilege.” He added, “In fact, Myung Seok wanted to be a successful writer, but he couldn’t afford to, so that’s why he feels jealous and envious of Dong Joo, who has become a best-selling author, and even shows insecurities and pettiness that are uncharacteristic of a chaebol.”

He continued, “In fact, Myung Seok is also a person who desires to rise further and get to the top of the group. He voluntarily took over the publishing company in order to revamp the image of the group that has been tainted with scandalous rumors such as slush funds and management issues.”

On how he was able to portray such a two-faced character, the actor revealed that he pondered on how to portray the character for so long but figured it out after discussing with the director. He shared, “I thought about it a lot because it was the role of a villain.” Revealing how he received help from the director, he shared, “The director told me that it was okay to be insecure and petty, so when I feel envious and jealous of Dong Joo, I should comfortably do whatever I want. So I thought hard about how to make Myung Seok seem mean and how to express his inferiority complex.”

Lee Ki Woo, who previously worked with director Park Chan Hong and writer Kim Ji Woo on the 2016 drama “Miracle,” recalled that there was “so much fun and happiness” on the filming set back then. He went on to reveal why he pondered on the portrayal of his “Miraculous Brothers” character for so long and also revealed what the atmosphere on set was like. He shared, “I wanted to show director Park Chan Hong and writer Kim Ji Woo an improved performance.” Regarding the filming set, he commented, “Once again, it was fun and enjoyable,” adding, “Above all, the respect for all actors in front of the camera, regardless of the size of their roles, made me feel grateful and rewarded, so I was very determined not to interfere with the work of the director and writer, whom I trust and respect.”

Wrapping up, Lee Ki Woo shared, “We think of miracles as fantasies, but they actually exist around us, and magical things that change the world happen because of those miracles. In the drama ‘Miraculous Brothers,’ a miracle in which fantasy becomes reality occurs. I hope that this story can provide a glimpse of hope in the midst of all the absurdity and harshness of life.”
