Upcoming KBS Weekend Drama Responds To Heo Jung Min’s Post About Being Dropped From Cast

The production team of KBS2’s upcoming weekend drama has responded to Heo Jung Min’s claims regarding his casting.

Previously, actor Heo Jung Min claimed that he was offered a role in KBS2’s upcoming weekend drama “Hyo Shim’s Independent Life” (literal title) and had been preparing for the role for about two months but was forcibly dropped from the cast. He specifically called out the writer of the drama for dropping him, demanding an apology and a proper explanation for why he was dropped.

In response to Heo Jung Min’s claims, the drama’s production team released an official statement, explaining the situation and clarifying that the writer was not involved in the casting.

Read the production team’s full statement:

It’s true that director Kim Hyung Il of KBS’s new weekend drama ‘Hyo Shim’s Independent Life’ and actor Heo Jung Min had only one meeting in late March.

However, after further discussion with the production team, it was decided that the actor’s image did not match the character in the drama.

Two weeks later in mid-April, we informed the actor’s management of the above fact.

Regarding the casting being canceled, the writer was not involvement in the casting at all. We express regret over the actor’s own assertion.

Heo Jung Min has since responded to the production team’s statement:

So to summarize, I was initially cast, but there was no intervention from the writer. It was just the production team’s decision to cancel the casting, and I was notified late, and I posted and ranted like a madman.

I sincerely apologize to the cast and crew. I was way off the mark. I wish the show the best of luck, and I’ll step away now. I will humbly accept the production team’s deep regret. Goodbye… In the end.. not even a single apology….

The drama is scheduled to air later this year following “The Real Has Come!” and actress Uee is confirmed to play the role of the protagonist Lee Hyo Shim.

Somehow this character remind me of Three Bold Sibling's Kim Tae Joo. That drama is before The Real Has Come, so i find that kind character making a "comeback" way too quickly than expected. But i do look forward to it because of Uee and HaJoon, its been a while I see them :)

Uee, who received strong viewer affection for her resolute portrayal of Kim Do Ran in My Only One and contributed to a 50% viewership rating, returns to the spotlight in the leading role of Lee Hyo Shim.

Hyo Shim has taken on the role of being the backbone of the household, caring for her mother, two older brothers, and younger brother after her father disappeared one day without a trace. Her selfless and sacrificial nature, stemming from the belief that devoting herself to her family is her responsibility, makes her a modern version of the virtuous daughter Shim Cheong. She has excelled in physical activities from a young age and is skilled in exercise, so she now works as a fitness trainer at a fitness center.

Uee plays the role of Lee Hyo Shim, a filial daughter who dedicates herself to her family. As she is naturally athletic and skilled at physical activities, she immediately snagged a job as a personal trainer right after graduating high school and currently works at a fitness center in Gangnam while supporting her family.

The newly released poster amplifies Hyo Shim’s charm as a fitness trainer. The positive vibe of Hyo Shim, who courageously and steadfastly carries out her responsibilities under any circumstances, is the biggest motivation in her life. The dumbbells with the text “independence” also capture viewers’ attention.

The production team remarked, “When Uee, who has completely immersed into her character Hyo Shim, arrives on set, bright energy spreads. Even during the poster shoot, she maintained her spirited smile and received praise from all the staff. The poster was intended to highlight Hyo Shim’s bright and healthy energy. Watching Hyo Shim through the broadcast will make viewers feel cheerful and full of positive energy. Please look forward to it.”

UEE needs an Independent Life in new teaser

by Jenzy

The first teaser and new poster for upcoming weekender Hyo-shim’s Independent Life just dropped, giving us a peek at our titular lead played by UEE (The Reason for Our Break Up) and the unglamorous family life pushing her to seek her own autonomy.

Hyo-shim is a skilled fitness trainer at her local gym, but, despite her top physical form, she’s bent under the weight of providing for her family. After her father walked out, it had been up to her to support her mother and three brothers. While this task might have been noble when she was younger, after years of thanklessly slaving for her family, she’s ready to finally live for herself.

Now exactly how bad could her family be, you may ask? Well, the teaser introduces us to each member of her chaotic family. We start with Hyo-shim’s mom, played by Yoon Mi-ra (Red Balloon). While she is quick to brag about her filial daughter to listeners, it’s also clear that she depends — almost too much — on Hyo-shim to fix her problems, such as when a spat involving her, a neighbor, and a pail of suspicious brown liquid ends up requiring the police.

Next up are her three brothers. The youngest brother, played by Kim Do-yeon (Strong Underdog), is an aimless twenty-something who spends money he doesn’t have on a convertible car, much to Hyo-shim’s fury. Not faring any better is her older brother, played by Seol Jung-hwan (Red Balloon), who’s been studying for the bar exam for several years and relies on Hyo-shim for allowance money. Finally, her oldest brother, played by Nam Sung-jin (The King of Tears, Lee Bang Won), has a wife who refuses to pay mom’s medical bills when she ends up in the hospital, passing the buck, once again, back to Hyo-shim.

So yeah, it’s pretty bad. But Hyo-shim is done swallowing her feelings, as seen in the last shot of the teaser, where she lands a punch on her youngest brother in a fighting ring. It’s time for her independent era to begin!

Written by Jo Jeong-seon (Mother of Mine) and directed by Kim Hyeong-il (The King of Tears, Lee Bang-won) Hyo-shim’s Independent Life will premiere on September 16, following the end of The Real Has Come.

Watch: Uee Is Fed Up With Taking Care Of Her Irresponsible Family In Upcoming Weekend Drama Teaser

Aug 27, 2023
by S. Nam

KBS2’s upcoming weekend drama “Hyo Shim’s Independent Life” (literal title) has dropped a new teaser!

“Hyo Shim’s Independent Life” tells the story of the warmhearted Lee Hyo Shim, who finally decides to get away from her leech-like family and pursue her own happiness away from them.

The newly released teaser begins with a voice praising Lee Hyo Shim, saying, “You don’t know how capable our daughter is! She also makes a lot of money.” Although Lee Hyo Shim works hard to support her family, her brothers barely help.

Lee Hyo Shim’s younger brother Hyo Do (Kim Do Yeon) tries to start a business and buys a convertible car despite not being able to afford it. Meanwhile, Lee Hyo Shim’s older brother Hyo Joon (Seol Jung Hwan) has been preparing for the bar exam for several years and receives allowances to get by. On top of that, Lee Hyo Shim’s eldest brother Hyo Sung (Nam Sung Jin) has a family of his own after marriage, so he can’t even afford to pay for his mother’s hospital feels.

Thus, Lee Hyo Shim is left supporting the family all on her own, causing her mother Lee Sun Soon’s (Yoon Mi Ra’s) praise to feel somewhat bitter and leaving Lee Hyo Shim wishing for an independent life.
