The Good Bad Mother: Episodes 9-10

by lovepark

This week is all about backstories, backstories, and more backstories. As the truth gets unveiled piece by piece, our characters must choose how to handle the consequences of their actions. While our hero still remains stuck in the past, his future relies on moving forward, but whether that means finding his old self or forging a new path remains to be seen.

EPISODES 9-10

The show finally reveals Kang-ho’s story pre-accident, and if it was not evident before, they certainly make it clear now that our prosecutor sought revenge from the very beginning. After unlocking the memory card, Young-soon finds journal entries dating back to 2008, and the show recounts Kang-ho’s journey from law school to the day of his accident.

In order to understand why he needed to become a prosecutor, Kang-ho dug into his dad’s case but was met with opposition. The only way for him to obtain those files was to gain power, and thus, Kang-ho graduated as the top of his class. From that moment forward, his hunt for the truth began.

Even from a glance, Kang-ho found something off about his dad’s death, and the more he investigated, the more he learned about Tae-soo and Woo-byeok’s corruptness. Fully committed to his cause, Kang-ho cut ties with Mi-joo to shield her from his machinations, and turned his attention to wooing Ha-young as a means to get closer to Tae-soo.

One by one, the show discloses Kang-ho’s true motivations, and while on the outside he played the part of the evil prosecutor, in reality, he was always setting up the long con. The murder case involving Woo-byeok’s grandson turned out to be a ploy to keep the innocent man “safe” (a.k.a. out of Woo-byeok’s clutches), and the secretary who had an affair with Tae-soo actually fled to the Philippines thanks to Kang-ho.

In his last entry, Kang-ho writes that the statute of limitations expired for his dad’s case, but his revenge was never about his dad; it has always been for his mom. Despite all the terrible things Young-soon did, Kang-ho knew that she also stayed up at night to care for him, ate his leftovers as her meal, and kept all the drawings she ripped apart. This revenge is for both him and her against the men who destroyed their lives.

As Young-soon reads her son’s final words, the danger surrounding his plan dawns on her, and she springs into action. Ignoring Kang-ho’s protests, she gathers his old files, including the memory card, and sets them ablaze. She tells her son to stop and says that true revenge means forgetting and letting go.

To make sure Kang-ho never returns to his former life, Young-soon gets the idea to marry him off. (The logic is flawed, but she did drown her son to make him walk so…) As expected, none of the eligible ladies in town want to marry him, which works for Kang-ho since he only has eyes for Mi-joo.

While dressed up, Kang-ho visits Mi-joo at her shop and stumbles across a lecherous man fighting her. He jumps in to protect her, and the sight of Kang-ho wearing the tie she got him makes her heart flutter. In her attempt to scare the man away, Mi-joo tells the others that Kang-ho is a prosecutor, and poor Kang-ho struggles to reconcile his past and present selves.

Right then, a motorcycle comes near them, and Kang-ho instinctively pulls Mi-joo away. His past memories flood back to him, and for a moment, Kang-ho relives the time she got hurt on his exam day. He gives her a sweet kiss, and swept up in her emotions, Mi-joo leans in for another.

JTBC’s “The Good Bad Mother” has shared a new glimpse of its upcoming episode!

“The Good Bad Mother” is a drama about a woman who must return to her motherly duties after her adult son unexpectedly becomes like a young child again. Lee Do Hyun stars as Kang Ho, a prominent prosecutor who has a fraught relationship with his mother Young Soon (Ra Mi Ran)—until he loses his memory in an accident and unexpectedly reverts to his seven-year-old self.

Spoilers

On the previous episode of “The Good Bad Mother,” Young Soon made up her mind to get Kang Ho married before she passed away. However, Kang Ho remained as smitten with Mi Joo as ever—and when he saved her from an accident in the street, his memories from his fateful exam day suddenly came back to him, leading him to kiss her. Later, after learning about Young Soon’s illness, Mi Joo decided to reveal once and for all that Kang Ho was the father of her twins.

In newly released stills from the drama’s next episode, Kang Ho and Mi Joo sit together at the hospital, where Kang Ho appears to be on the verge of tears. Despite only having the memories and mind of a seven-year-old child, Kang Ho has declared himself Mi Joo’s guardian, but he is clearly in need of a guardian of his own.

As Mi Joo sits beside him and warmly comforts him, the two share a serious conversation, raising the question of whether she will finally be able to confess to Kang Ho the secret that she has been keeping all these years.

Loved the scenes between Samsik and the rich girl...they have a good chemistry.

The Wooybeok minions and their grand entrance...Samsik was amazed.  :D

I didnt expect that Kangho planted the evidence in that bag and his coat. Smart.

Have been watching TGBM since a few weeks (Ep6 I think). At first it started slow, but once I got past Ep3/4 I was hooked. After all this time, however, I must say that the actor for Sam Shik must have amazing acting skills. He annoys me too much - the character as village idiot, doing crimne, but still having a good heart? For me a long time he didn't seem likeable as he was being truly horrible and a bully out of jealousy. Even scamming a person whose mental level was essentially a child...

Scary

however in the last episode he tried to save Kangho, so I guess he isn't too bad :D

Mijoo is one of the strongest female characters in recent years. Her crying being ugly--- she's real .

Last but not least, my favourite part is actually Kangho (re)connecting with his kids. They are one of the shining stars as well in this drama. Hope to see them in future dramas as well!"

The Good Bad Mother: Episodes 11-12

by lovepark

Our hero’s recovery takes the limelight this week, but what should be good news actually brings more trouble to our protagonists. Unable to outrun his past, our hero must finish the battles he started and untangle decades-old secrets if he wishes to keep his family — both old and new — safe from harm.

EPISODES 11-12

A lot happens in these two episodes, and it seems the revenge plot line will take center stage as the show nears its end. For the most part, characters remain consistent (for better or worse), which means Young-soon is still stubborn and set in her ways. While her tenacity has helped her survive through tragedy after tragedy, it has also made her reluctant to ask for help, especially when she needs it.

As a result, Young-soon tries to hide her worsening condition from everyone around her until the pain becomes unbearable, and she faints at home to Kang-ho’s shock. Luckily, the right people are present at the right time and take her to the hospital for treatment. As Kang-ho learns of the severity of her illness, he promises to give up his dreams — including his crush on Mi-joo — if it means Young-soon will get better.

The nice nurse who was interested in Kang-ho overhears his plea and bows out gracefully once she learns that his feelings lay elsewhere. Unfortunately, when Young-soon wakes up and hears the nurse’s decision, she takes her anger out on Mi-joo and blames her for ruining her son’s future yet again. Thankfully, Mi-joo’s mom comes to her daughter’s defense and yells at Young-soon for knowing nothing.

As Young-soon takes a stroll to calm down, she stumbles across Kang-ho talking to his dad’s grave. She sits next to him and shares memories of Hae-shik. Putting on a brave face, she asks Kang-ho to bury her next to him so they can be together, but her request makes Kang-ho cry. He asks his mom to not leave him, so she agrees to take her time.

Young-soon returns to Mi-joo’s house and gets on her knees to apologize to Mi-joo’s mom. Seeing her sincerity, Mi-joo’s mom accepts her apology, but the moment of tenderness weakens Young-soon’s resolve. Holding onto her friend for dear life, Young-soon begs her to save her, and from inside, Mi-joo overhears her cries and silently weeps.

Realizing that her days are numbered, Young-soon starts crossing things off her bucket list and invites Kang-ho out on a date. They dress up and enjoy a nice day in town, but Young-soon never catches a break because that very night, their farm is on fire. While Kang-ho manages to push his mom to safety, an explosion throws him off his feet before he can escape. As he hits the ground with a thud, the impact causes his memories to return.

Meanwhile, the bad guys are beginning to realize how much Kang-ho has planned for their demise, and they start making their moves. However, Sam-shik suddenly becomes plot relevant when he discovers one of the pieces of evidence Kang-ho hid (the original DNA result test), and dives into the fray, unaware of the danger he got himself into.

He assumes threatening Ha-young for money would be simple, but alas, Tae-soo’s men kidnap and nearly kill him. Luckily, Woo-byeok’s stooges rescue Sam-shik using their newly acquired farming tools, and Sam-shik lives to see another day.

Though his initial plan failed, Sam-shik’s appearance causes Ha-young to doubt her dad, and on her wedding day, she disappears after receiving a photo of a recovering Kang-ho. She travels all the way to his house to catch a glimpse of him, but Tae-soo has his men drag her back home. Enraged, he hits Ha-young and orders her locked up until the election.
