Kim So-yeon, a freshman-class 'acting master' who has nothing impossible

Stealing viewers' hearts with the role of Ryu Hong-joo, a charming rich woman in 'The Tale of a Nine Tailed 1938'

Gorgeous is an understatement. It's probably more accurate to say that it's exaggerated. Usually, that's enough to make people avert their gaze. Too much glamour can be overwhelming, and too much exaggeration can be uncomfortable, but Kim So-yeon is different. She doesn't make you look away because she's uncomfortable, she makes you want to see more. She is proving her worth as she takes on one character after another, highlighting her beauty and acting skills at the same time.

Kim So-yeon is currently starring in tvN's "Tle of the Nine Tailed 1938" (written by Han Woo-ri, directed by Kang Shin-hyo). 'The Tale of a Nine Tailed Fox 1938' is a story about Lee Yeon (Lee Dong-wook), a nine-tailed fox who once ruled the world as the mountain god and the owner of the Baekdudaegan Mountains, who loved humans and came to live by dealing with miscellaneous gods that disturbed the world as a result of his karma of being reincarnated (2020). ) is a sequel. Here, Kim So-yeon stars as Ryu Hong-ju, an eagle owl who was reincarnated as a child alongside Lee Yeon and Chun Moo-young (Ryu Kyung-soo).

56834_69459_1925.jpg

As a character who didn't appear in the previous film, Ryu Hong-ju made a great impression from the very first scene. As the owner of Myeongyeongak, the best restaurant in Gyeongseong Province, Ryu Hong-ju was able to defend her gisaens from Japanese officers without batting an eyelid. When she appeared in front of Yi Yeon for the first time in a long time, her eyes flashed and she attacked him, saying, "I want you," "Let's marry," and when Yi Yeon refused, she said, "I'll kill you if I can't have you," in a terrifying attack.

As if the title of "femme fatale" wasn't enough, Kim So-yeon throws down the gauntlet to become an "action queen." Her duel with Lee Yi-yeon on the train is a highlight. The scene depicting a tense duel between two powerful superheroes on the roof of a moving train opened the door for 'Tale of the Nine Tailed 1938' as a K-fantasy action drama. At first, they fought tooth and nail, but in the end, the affectionate Gumiho and Suri Owl showed off their different abilities and powers, raising expectations that 'Gumiho 1938' would become the K-hero Avengers.

Add to that Yi-yeon's half-brother, Lee Rang (Kim Bum), and Cheon Moo-young (Ryu Kyung-soo), a white tiger who is comparable to Yi-yeon and Ryu Hong-joo, and you have the makings of a K-hero, albeit a villainous one. In addition, Lee Yeon, Ryu Hong-joo, and Chun Moo-young, who were like a trio in their childhood, now have a love-hate relationship with each other due to their respective stories, but Ryu Hong-joo serves as a bridge to their old friendship. It is also the case that Lee Yeon and Cheon Moo-young, who do not seem to be able to recover their relationship, have joined forces to find Ryu Hong-joo, whose whereabouts are unknown due to Jangsan-beom.

56834_69460_2019.jpg

Ryu Hong-joo is terrifying with his overwhelming charisma, but suddenly turns into a cute and lovable character. She can be ruthless, and then melt your heart with her warmth. Kim So-yeon is captivating fans with her ability to portray such a wide range of characters. Kim So-yeon, who showed viewers the essence of character acting with her exaggerated but captivating portrayal of Cheon Seo-jin in the previous film, "Penthouse," is making them fall in love with her spectacular character acting this time around as Ryu Hong-ju. Knowing Kim So-yeon's Jericho innocence, which has been revealed through entertainment programmes and YouTube, viewers can admire her acting even more and become obsessed with her.

In addition, to portray the character of Suri Owl, Kim So-yeon highlights her eye sockets with bright pink eyeshadow and wears a variety of outfits, switching between hanbok and western clothes in the period setting of the Japanese occupation, but she manages to pull it off without any awkwardness. The unique make-up, various accessories and colourful patterned outfits could easily clutter the screen, but Kim So-yeon's natural beauty and excellent acting skills combine to make a strong impact and keep the viewer's eyes fixed on her.

All of these things, which would be overwhelming if listed point by point, come together to create a harmonious character in Kim So-yeon. Through Ryu Hong-joo, Kim So-yeon once again proves her mettle. With her characterisation, she makes 'Tale of the Nine Tailed 1938` a lot more interesting.

We applaud the producers for casting Kim So-yeon in the role of Ryu Hong-joo, and we can't wait to see what she does in the rest of Gumiho1938 and what else Kim So-yeon can do to delight her fans. As Ryu Hong Joo observes Yi-yeon and Chun Moo-young's frosty relationship, she vows to protect them in her own way, and when she adds, "Even if our relationship is tattered," we can't help but wonder what she's foreshadowing. We can't wait to see how great Kim So-yeon's performance as Ryu Hong-joo will be.

I liked the scene where child Lee Yeon, Hong Joo and Mu young shared a piece of Taluipa`s comb. Everyone brought something close tho their personality. Mu Young brought books, Lee yeon clean underwear and Hong Joo brought food.

That was so on point, although I think if Lee yeon had access to mint chocolate and a cooler he would have gotten those instead back then too lol. I agree Lee Rang's soft nature needed push somewhere, he is able to become sane/human because he has his brother around, his love and anger both are related to Yeon lol.

Makes me sometimes really think Lee Yeon was there for everyone to the point no one really liked Ah eum , because of her they lost the friend brother a good ruler in retrospect. Yeon ah needs balance yo , that is why everyone is always out to kill him lol.

I totally understood Lee Rang`s feelings. Of course, he was responsable for his choices but his older brother failed him. He was abandoned two times. He has father`s issues. Growing up with an absent father can explain for relationship troubles. His older brother became a father figure and then he lost him too. In the begining of the episode 1 it was scenes from season 1 and Lee yeon said to Lee Rang that he never abandoned him. Maybe it is right but Lee Rang thought or felt that he was abandoned.

Because Lee Yeon gave up being a mountain god, he failed many other people/humans. I know that he was looking for the reincarnation of Ah Reum but why he did not look for his brother as well to clear up their missunderstanding?

Lee Yeon has a good heart. I want to rekindle the broken relationships with his old friends.

I think this time travel is a blessing in disguise. To spend time with his brother, to reconnect with his old friends, everything will bring positive results.

Entering the second half of 'The Tale of a Gumiho 1938' Lee Dong-wook, save Kim So-yeon and keep Kim Bum's love?

525191_649205_3650.jpg

The identity of the 'Hongbaek Tal' that brought Yi Yeon (Lee Dong-wook) into the era of chaos was Cheon Moo-yeong (Ryu Gyeong-soo), a former mountain god and Yi-yeon's old friend. Chun Moo-young made a risky deal to revive his dead brother and regain his body intact. However, a variable occurred in which the 'Jangsanbeom' he called to Myoyeongak took Ryu Hong-ju (Kim So-yeon) to the world of the wicked, and in a strange situation, Lee Yeon and Chun Moo-young, who went to rescue Ryu Hong-ju, crash landed on the set of a drama.

There is not much time left for Lee Yeon, who stayed in 1938 for a limited time, until the lunar eclipse when the door of time opens again. With the question of whether he can safely return to the modern world where his precious person is waiting, attention is focused on the mission that must be solved before he returns.

The first point is Yiyeon's monster hunting. In 1938, Lee Yeon, who faced the era of chaos after losing her country, could not just ignore the people dying at the hands of other countries. However, while traveling in time, he is just a traveler who stays in this era for a short time, and what he does cannot change the future. Knowing this better than anyone else, Lee Yeon told Goo Shin-joo (Hwang Hee), who wanted to start an independence movement, that our mission was to grab the red and white mask and return to modern times with the guardian stone.

In 1938, Lee Yeon was grieved over the loss of his first love, Ah-Eum (played by Jo Bo-A), became addicted to his opium, tormented those around him, and failed to properly play the role of a former mountain god. Gu Shin-joo, who was worried about not being able to do anything while taking care of Yi-yeon, was scouted by Seonwoo Eun-ho (played by Kim Yong-ji), a secret independence activist, and willingly took his hand, saying it was an opportunity to pay off his debt. Earlier, Lee Yeon also promised to make this era where Lee Rang (played by Kim Bum) lives in no danger, so expectations are high for Lee Yeon to fight against monsters from other countries that are starting to spread, and the hunt he will show.

◆ Debt owed to the era of 1938! Former mountain god and 'nine-tailed fox' Lee Yeon's hunt begins?
In 1938, Lee Yeon, who faced the era of chaos, could not just ignore the people dying at the hands of other countries. On the other hand, in 1938, Yi Yeon is grieved over the loss of his 'first love' Ah-Eum (played by Jo Bo-A), becomes addicted to his opium, torments those around him, and fails to properly play the role of a former mountain god. Earlier, Lee Yeon also promised to make sure that Lee Rang's life would not be dangerous. Expectations are gathering for the bloody hunting he will show whether Lee Yeon will fight against the monsters from other countries that have started to flourish.

◆ 'Sansins' Lee Yeon X Ryu Hong Joo X Chun Moo Young, Shall we clear up the misunderstanding and restore the twisted friendship?
The complex and subtle friendship of the trio of mountain gods, Lee Yeon, Ryu Hong-ju, and Chun Moo-young, who are fiercely clashing, continues. Unlike their childhood, when they swore to protect each other no matter what, those who reunited in 1938 sharpened their blades towards each other. Ryu Hong-joo did not just stare at Yi-yeon and Chun Moo-young, who had gone wrong. Ryu Hong-joo, without hesitation, stabs Yi-yeon and Cheon Moo-young in a fierce fight. Even after learning that they came from the future, Ryu Hong-ju watched the two friends in her own way. The appearance of Sanshinz drinking peacefully like before made the relationship even more regrettable. New facts were also revealed. Yiyeon and Chun Moo-young fell out after the mountain god test, and that Yi-yeon killed Cheon Moo-young's older brother. Afterwards, Chun Mu-yeong, who had turned to stone, was awakened by someone, but he neither knew about its existence nor had a whole body. In the meantime, Cheon Moo-young regretted that he had not predicted that Jang San-beom would kidnap Ryu Hong-ju. That's how Lee Yeon and Chun Moo-yeong joined hands to save Ryu Hong-ju. I wonder if those facing a crisis will be able to protect each other as before, and if those who went to the world of the wicked will come back safely.

◆ Lee Yeon's bucket list = Happiness with her younger sister! Lee Rang ♥ Jang Yeo-hee What is the direction of romance?
Lee Yeon, who had crash-landed in 1938, felt fortunate to be able to face her brother Lee Rang, whom she missed. Although Lee Rang is still sharp on Lee Yeon because he did not know the friendship they shared in modern times, they are building another friendship in 1938. Yiyeon just wants to live in a better environment without getting sick. Lee ranghe has a new relationship a half-mermaid Jang Yeo-hee (played by Woo Hyun-jin), who is in a similar situation to his. Knowing that Lee Rang's life was in danger, Jang Yeo-hee jumped in without hesitation to save him. Looking at the two of them, Yiyeon's first bucket list creation was heartwarming. On the other hand, Yi-Rang decides to grant Jang Yeo-Hee's wish according to the fate of a fox who must repay her kindness. Yiyeon's happy look at the two of them going on a date under the guise of repairing their wish brought laughter. Like Lee Yeon's small wish, attention is paid to whether the romance between Lee Rang and Jang Yeo-hee will have a happy ending.

‘Tale of the Nine Tailed 1938’ Review: The Spectacular Return with Upgraded Fun

Tale of the Nine Tailed is back, plunging into a historical journey with our favorite Korean mythical creatures, including the gumiho. Tale of the Nine Tailed is back, plunging into a historical journey with our favorite Korean mythical creatures, including the gumiho. As the title of this new season, Tale of the Nine Tailed 1938, suggests, the story leaps back into a tumultuous era in Korean history—the Japanese colonial period.

tale-of-the-nine-tailed-1938-review-02.j

Though the identity of Kato Ryuhei (Ha Do Kwon), head of the Japanese Government-General of Korea, is not fully revealed yet, he’s been hinted as a Japanese Tengu on the drama’s official website, promising the appearance of more Japanese yokai as the series progresses. Additionally, objects from well-known folktales, such as the sword of “Baby Warrior” Utori, the legendary flute Manpasikjeok, and the golden ruler that can revive the dead, add an additional layer of mystique to this K-Fantasy drama.

And unlike the previous season, which was introduced as a fantasy action romance, this season positions itself as a swashbuckling fantasy action adventure, focusing more on the relationships among the four characters: Yeon, Rang, Hong Ju and Moo Young (Ryu Kyung Soo). Firstly, when Yeon and Rang first reunite in the past, they clash quite fiercely due to the emotional resentment that Rang holds. However, the joy of Yeon, who was just happy to meet his dead brother again, openly shows his affection for Rang, bringing the two closer. The show satisfies the audience by showcasing a deeper bromance between brothers than in season one.

Yeon, Hong Ju, and Mu Yeong were friends who had solely relied on each other since their childhood, nurturing a dream of becoming a mountain god. However, their relationship takes a strange turn as Mu Yeong, who was thought to be dead, appears as a masked man intending to take revenge on Yeon, who caused the death of his brother. Moreover, the one-way love triangle also spices up the story – Hong Ju constantly makes moves on Yeon, who only loves Nam Ji Ah, while Mu Yeong has his feelings for Hong Ju.

The action scenes are impressive, fitting for the fantasy action genre. Despite the potentially heavy historical backdrop, it doesn’t miss the fun of an action-packed adventure by presenting various spectacles, from gun action reminiscent of The Good, The Bad, The Weird to comical barehand action and heavy, flashy sword fights. It also does not simply consume the Japanese colonial era as a subject matter, accurately depicting the oppression and violence the Japanese inflicted on Koreans and those who had to fight against the same Koreans who are now on the Japanese side, illustrating the pain and confusion of the era.

Besides, the visual pleasure that follows the previous season is also noteworthy. The glamorous costumes and visuals that make it look like a fashion show are satisfying, to the point where you could call the show the actors’ video pictorials.

Halfway through its run, Tale of the Nine Tailed 1938 still has much to unpack. From the significant narrative arcs like the past conflicts between Yeon and Mu Yeong and the standoff between Korean and Japanese yokai involved in the independence movement to smaller yet captivating details like the budding romance between Rang and the mermaid Yeon Hee and the mysterious identity of Sunwooeunho (Kim Yong Ji), the series promises to keep viewers engaged till the end. Here’s hoping that it continues to deliver the same level of excitement till its conclusion. (7/10)

'The Tale of a Gumiho 1938' Hwang Hee's stills full of reversal charm were released.

While tvN's Saturday and Sunday drama 'The Tale of a Nine Tailed 1938' captivated overseas viewers beyond Korea, attention is also focused on Hwang Hee, the main character who gave her upgraded fun. In the play, Hwang-hee is active as Goo Shin-joo, a 'laughter maker' who is the reliable right-hand man who protects Lee Yeon (Lee Dong-bun)'s side and adds to the joy of watching.

Hwang-hee, who has returned even more powerfully, has a dazzling presence every time. As a result of utilizing the characteristics of the native fox Gu Shin-ju in detail, such as her tone and expression, he provides a high sense of immersion with a synchro rate that sticks to his character, while his unique skillful charm is savoryly drawn, and he is loved by many.  In addition, his sticky chemistry with Lee Dong-wook and Kim Bum also became an indispensable viewing point for the drama.

Attention is focused on Hwang-hee, who is monitoring with serious eyes and expressions in a busy shooting site. From the outfit to the surrounding environment, it is the same as the drama scene, but Hwang-hee, who is passionate about monitoring his script, exudes a deep aura different from the old Shin-joo. Attention is focusing on whether he can find Ryu Hong-joo (played by Kim So-yeon) and escape safely within the one-hour time limit.

In the last broadcast, an unexpected crisis struck Lee Yeon, Ryu Hong-joo, and Cheon Moo-young of ‘Sanshinz’. It is Kim Doo-han (played by Ahn Jae-mo) who is full of charisma who greeted the two in a place that is hard to believe. Here, the number board where the countdown has begun heightens tension. 'The Tale of a Nine Tailed Fox 1938' Lee Dong-wook, the pleasure of seeing in a colorful Joseon suit UP

p1065593909561985_359_thum.jpg

Lee Dong-wook has been reborn as a stylish Joseon fashionista. Lee Dong-wook's role as 'Lee Yeon' in tvN's 'The Tale of a Gumiho 1938' is drawing a response from the home theater. In particular, Lee Dong-wook not only increases the immersion of the character with the styling of 'Lee Yeon', but also adds to the fun of watching.

As it is the story of Lee Yeon trapped in Joseon in the 1930s, Lee Dong-wook perfectly melted into that era by digesting a more classic yet colorful suit than the previous season. First, he completed a luxurious yet sexy style with a classic three-piece suit.

In addition, colorful and colorful patterns of ties and scarves give points to simple suits, and accessories such as suspenders and canes are used to highlight Lee Yeon's witty charm. Lee Yeon's styling like this is catching the eyes of those who see it with various costumes, wondering how much the cost of the clothes put in front of the clothes shop (Kim Jeong-nan) in Obok fashion store will be. Lee Dong-wook arouses admiration with his perfect digestive power that sticks to any suit with his tall height and white skin.

Many people continue to praise Lee Yeon's performance in 'The Tale of a Gumiho 1938' presented by Lee Dong-wook, who draws the character in detail from eye-catching action and acting to visuals in each episode.
