“VIP” Cast And Director Promise To Shake Things Up With An Explosive And Secretive Plot

Oct 27, 2019

by S. Cho Soompi

On October 25, the cast and crew of upcoming drama “VIP” participated in a press conference. In attendance were Jang NaraLee Sang YoonLee Chung Ah, Kwak Sun Young, Pyo Ye JinShin Jae Ha, and PD Lee Jung Rim.

“VIP” tells the story of a team in charge of taking care of a department store’s top one percent of VIP clients and dives into the lives of working women trying to survive in both the workforce and their marriages.

PD (producing director) Lee Jung Rim shared, “It’s simultaneously a story about a couple with lots of pain and secrets as well as a story about people who must live competitively. There are shocking twists in every episode, but the drama also delivers comfort and has warm, relatable aspects.” In regards to the special VIP task force in the drama, she explained, “Department stores always have VIP clients. When the writer was doing early research, there was no specific designated team [for VIP clients]. The marketing team would be in charge of it. However, we wanted to switch it up and have a separate VIP team. The work they do isn’t made up. We tried to portray the work department stores do. The drama tells stories shocking enough for people to think, ‘They take it this far?'”

Jang Nara plays Na Jung Sun, the vice-chief of the VIP task force and a regular wife. However, that all turns upside down when she receives a mysterious text message about her husband. Lee Sang Yoon plays husband Park Sung Joon, who has a deep secret he cannot tell his wife.

Lee Sang Yoon commented on their relationship, saying, “After discussing the acting styles and actors we both like, we found some similarities between us. I thought we would get along well, and acting together was very comfortable.”

Jang Nara also shared, “Lee Sang Yoon does not do anything that would make anyone uncomfortable. I was thankful that he looked after me a lot while acting, and it was comfortable having conversations with him because we are of the same age.” She continued, “The bond between the female characters is also unique. I wanted to portray this well to show both the conflicts and the closeness between them. I hope it turns out well.”

The remaining members of the VIP task force include the ace Lee Hyun Ah (Lee Chung Ah), Song Mi Na (Kwak Sun Young), who juggles between work and being a mother, On Yu Ri (Pyo Ye Jin), the rookie of the team, and Ma Sang Woo (Shin Jae Ha), who finds this team to be the first adversity in his life.

Lee Chung Ah shared, “If Jang Nara is the soft charisma of our team, I am the cold and chic persona.” Kwak Sun Young commented, “I play a working mom who wants to protect both her personal life and her life as a mother. Anyone currently working who has ever wished their work would receive recognition will be able to relate.”

Regarding her character, Pyo Ye Jin explained, “Since she lived a very difficult life, she has very strong survival skills. That’s why she lives very desperately and endures the hard work of the VIP team in case she misses the opportunity.” Shin Jae Ha described his character as “someone who creates lots of disasters,” continuing, “He tries to pour all his passion into his work, but I think he will unintentionally fall into the role of a messenger of secrets.”

SBS’s “VIP” premieres on October 28 at 10 p.m. KST.

I am so excited for tonight's premiere! And about the plot, I guess that Lee Sang Yon's character is cheating Jang Na Ra's character against his will! May be he's cheating her after their marriage!

And Song Mi Na character is really pissing me off! Wiki says she's a working mother of two young sons & getting a promotion in the VIP task force is her goal. And then again, is it possible that she uses Lee Sang Yoon to get higher position she wants??!  I am so looking forward for answers!

Just watched first ep & I am glad about Jang Nara's choice this time! I think she has chosen a balanced drama this time! :)

And wow... WE have 4 gorgeous ladies in VIP team & one of them is the wife of Park Sung-Joon while the other three are from different backgrounds! Na Jung-Sun is really cool & I think she's devoted for her husband that she is having family planning in her mind.! But then her husband is cheating on her???! I really hope this won't be The Last Empress 2 where she dumps again by her loving hubby!

And when think about other three ladies in the team, Song Mi Na is a working mom & getting a promotion is her goal! Then she can use Sung Joon to get the higher position she wants.. Then a new girl, On Yu Ri pops up & she looks naive & frightened all the time as if she's hiding something from others. And I don't see a valid reason to doubt Lee Hyun A yet! :sweatingbullets: Then who is really the culprit here??! Is it someone we are unaware about yet??!

And I dunno if anyone noticed this but at the end, both Na Jung-Sun & Park Sung-Joon received a text msg on their cell phones at the same time! Na Jung-Sun's msg read as Your husband is having an affair with someone from your team! Then it's probably the someone on your team has sent a msg to Park Sung-Joon on the other hand! :o

I like the story so far so can't wait for tonight's eps... Please Park Sung Joon, treat your gorgeous wife better! :)

Jang Na-ra & Lee Sang Yun Describe How Awkward They Were with Each Other at First

SBS' drama 'VIP' co-stars actress Jang Na-ra and actor Lee Sang Yun revealed that they are very close now, but were super awkward with each other at first.

On October 28, Jang Na-ra and Lee Sang Yun guested on SBS POWER FM's radio show 'Choi Hwa-jeong's Power Time'.

Jang Na-ra and Lee Sang Yun

During the talk, the host Choi Hwa-jeong said, "You two seem to get along so well. Were you already close before you started filming 'VIP'?"

Lee Sang Yun chuckled and answered, "No, not at all. We had never even seen each other before 'VIP'. It was very awkward when we first met. I was like, 'Nothing could get any more awkward than this.' We became really close though."

He continued, "We have a bunch of quiet people on our team, actually. When they are together, there is like this complete silence. So, I do the talking most of the time. One day, Na-ra looked at me and said she thought I could be a great host."

Jang Na-ra responded, "Yes, he honestly could! I could see that it wasn't easy for him as well, but he still tried to lead the conversation. I respect him a lot in that sense."
