Park Shin Hye’s New Drama “Doctors” Reveals Character Details After Script Read-Through

On April 28, SBS’s upcoming drama “Doctors” held its first script read-through.

The actors present included Kim Rae Won, Park Shin Hye, Yoon Kyun Sang,Lee Sung Kyung, Kim Young Ae, Yoon Hae Young, Jang Hyun Sung, Jeon Gook Hwan, Lee Ho Jae, Um Hyo Seob, and Jeong Hae Gyun.

Kim Rae Won will be playing the role of Hong Ji Hong, a man who went from being an intern [a first-year medical resident] to a high school teacher before returning to neurosurgery as a specialist. Although Hong Ji Hong is audacious and sociable, he has a painful past. His parents died in a car accident when he was young, and when he lost a patient, he left the hospital to change careers.

Park Shin Hye will be playing a character that is said to be a 180-degree change from her real personality. Her character is named Yoo Hye Jung and she is described as rough and rebellious.

Yoon Kyun Sang plays Jung Yoon Do, who despite being a chaebol is a free-spirited doctor. Lee Sung Kyung plays Yoo Hye Jung’s rival, Jin Seo Woo, who is described as aggressive and jealous.

Kim Young Ae plays the grandmother who raised Hye Jung. Her character is said to love her granddaughter fiercely despite her tough words. Jeong Hae Gyun plays Hye Jung’s father, while child actress Kal So Won plays the younger version of Hye Jung.

Yoon Hae Young will play Seo Woo’s mother while Um Hyo Seob plays her father. The two of them are a wealthy couple, which fits with Seo Woo’s snobbish character. Jang Hyun Sung will play a doctor who supports and encourages Hong Ji Hong, while Lee Ho Jae plays Ji Hong’s father.

“Doctors” tells the story of a romance between Park Shin Hye’s character, who goes from a rebel to a doctor after meeting a good teacher, and Kim Rae Won’s character, who goes through the world with a firm resolve for justice and sadness in his heart.

The drama is scheduled to air on June 20.

Upcoming SBS drama 'Doctors' held its 1st script reading with the fabulous cast!

 

On May 11, the drama revealed a photo of the cast members together for the script reading held back in April, including lead actors Park Shin Hye and Kim Rae Won.

Kim Min Suk from 'Descendants of the Sun' can be seen deeply focused, along withLee Sung Kyung, Jang Hyun Sung, Yoon Kyun Sang, and more! It was also reported that Park Shin Hye showed a new side of her through the tough and bright character Yoo Hye Jung.

Im not only a PSH fan but Im also looking forward in seeing Lee Sung Kyung. She was crazy and hilarious in Cheese that I think in Doctors her craziness will be toned down. But I hope not too much. 

Im surprise to hear that she can sing and its pretty good too.  I hope she'll sing an OST here or even PSH that will be a double bonus

So Hong Ji-Hong's  his painful past is on two counts... And he changed careers at least twice.

Nado....  What a lovely high school student she is in this photo... BTW, I started watching Queen's Flower with her; She is very sweet in it, so far. None of the craziness we saw in CITT.  And I also hope she will sing an OST. Thank you for the lovely video.  Actually, Shin-Hye and Rae-Won can also sing. Rae-Won has sang an OST to many of his drama and movies.

I love the expression on Shin-Hye's face in many of these photos. She really captures tough well.

To be honest, we have a cast to die for. Each one of them, is a wonderful actor. We will really see power-house performances.

Thanks for all updates. I hope this drama is well written. I'm the type of viewer that if Writing directing acting is top notch I'll watch doesn't matter who the actors are.

Nice too see PSH and KRW together. I'll always remember  PSH as the young Choi Ji Woo in Stairway to Heaven she was 14 then. At the same year 2003 or 04 KRW did rooftop cat or attic Prince forgot the title but twas the height of hallyu classmates and I. Crazy about jpop kpop kdrama hahaha.

And now both are starring together in this drama. They've come along way. Oh yeah KRW also starred in Love story in Harvard gosh if I'm not mistaken  that's so long ago early 2000? 

I'll be checking this drama

But you keep saying and asking the same thing repeatedly. Or asking something that none of us would know like "where is he" or if he is just a cameo because there was not many pics/video of him?

That's why I pointed out KRW and YKS weren't seen either even they are the leads and JS isn't one

( JS seemed to film his other drama yesterday though based on NJH's post to answer to your question- Where he is lol )

 

I know you are excited but LOL. It's just hilarious and I just had to point it out  No offence taken of course.

Please continue to post about Jisoo. I like the guy a lot and was excited to see him in the cast. 

We are glad to have his fans here. Just like we are welcome to all fans of the cast or even non-fan who enjoy the drama.

@jongski chingu.. Please do not leave..... I have shared many threads with you, and I love how you get excited. To me, this is part of your charm. (aside from your insights, of course)  That's why I often shoutout to you, when I see a thread of a drama I might like, if you are not there already.  And so many times you have woken up a "sleepy thread" with your comments. (although, with our cast, I doubt this thread will get sleepy).  

So pleases stick around... Would love to have you on the thread. I think each of us want to see their "favorite" actor/actress. I am a Kim Rae-Won fan, but would have watched this drama even if he were not the lead, because I think all of the cast is outstanding.

I love the enthusiasm you share for your faves and am happy that Ji Soo is in this drama so I can finally see why you are so crazy about him. What I love about Soompi is that it is a safe place to just spazz about the dramas we watch and actors who are cast in them.  We have been sharing the same treads for a while and you always make a thread fun chingu. I've never watched Kim Rae Won in a drama either so I'm excited to watch him in this one too, because @irilight and @valsava are his fans.

First script read for SBS’s upcoming Doctors

News to get everyone pumped up! The first script reading for upcoming medical romance drama Doctors was held on May 12. The upcoming SBS Monday-Tuesday drama will be about a young woman who starts out as a gangster and matures as a doctor, and in the process realizes a love of a lifetime.

Park Shin-hye (Pinocchio) will be playing plucky heroine Yoo Hye-jung. She was an incredibly rebellious teenager who changed her life but not her personality, and became a bold, sarcastic doctor. This role marks a departure from Park’s previous roles as usually nice, warm-hearted Candy-type heroines (like her character in Heirs).

 

 

Kim Rae-won(Punch) will be playing her easygoing mentor sunbae Hong Ji-hong, who has a guarded heart due to a history of tragic losses. He lost his family at a young age, then when he just started his medical internship, he lost a patient, resulting in a drastic career change. He becomes a high school teacher (presumably where he meets Park Shin-hye’s character) and then returns to his calling as a doctor.

Lee Sung-kyung (Cheese in the Trap) will be playing the jealous Jin Seo-woo, Hye-jung’s main rival in both work and love. And of course, no drama would be complete without the requisite chaebol. So hottie Yoon Kyun-sang (Six Flying Dragons) is here to fill that role as Jung Yoon-do, the carefree rich boy who works as a doctor because he wants to, and not because he needs the money. Yoo Da-in (One More Happy Ending) and Kim Min-seok (Descended From the Sun) have also confirmed for the show. So I’m guessing there will be multiple overlapping love polygons?

Veteran actress Kim Young-ae (Kill Me, Heal Me) will be playing Yoo Hye-jung’s charismatic grandma; Yoon Hae-young (Prime Minister and I) will be Seo-woo’s materialistic mother; Eom Hyo-seob (Nine) will be playing Seo-woo’s father; and Jeon Gook-hwan will be playing her brother.

At the script reading, these two actors reportedly showed hilarious chemistry, which bodes well for the laughs in Doctors’ future. Jang Hyun-sung (Signal) will be playing Hong Ji-hong’s mentor, who is a caring support figure to him through all of his emotional trials. Child actress Kal So-won will be playing the younger version of Park Shin-hye’s character Yoo Hye-jung. It’ll be a mini-deja vu moment, as Park also played Kal So-won’s older counterpart in the movie Miracle in Cell No. 7.

The writer for this project is Ha Myung-hee who also wrote Warm Words, High Society, and Can We Get Married, all dramas that insightfully explored certain aspects of Korean culture that are accepted as status quo, such as female fidelity in a relationship, inherent pressures of a chaebol background, and the realities of discord between families uniting through a marriage. PD Oh Choong-hwan also has an impressive line of credits such asYou From Another Star and Birth of a Family.

Doctors will premiere on June 20 after Jackpot finishes its run.
