The article headline reads as a bit misleading as though there were a lot of risque scenes for KYJ, for viewers who didnt watch the drama, this isnt good press for KYJ but fortunately those who gave their comments were reasonable that they didnt think there was any inappropriateness

Totally dislikes entertainment media  who trys to grab eyeballs by having such headlines

This drama is as pure as extra virgin olive oil and the driven snow, tsk tsk

yes, i'm actually very pissed off with media nowsaday.  They have lost their professionalism and write articles without checking the facts.  You are right about the drama, even though there were scenes where they can go further (if you know what i mean, hehe), but they didn't want to follow the typical korean dramas and also concern for KYJ's age.

i think for KYJ, MDBC is her 1st lead role after being a child actress.  i think there is no child actor/actress award in such awards ceremony, so in the past they are not able to be nominated. I think to be nominated in such a category, you need to be in a lead/supporting role.  For PBG, it make senses that he was nominated for R88 instead of MDBC though i felt he was alot better and able to  show his talent in this drama.  I'm not sure how the award nomination works, but i remembered before that a drama actor of 10years can still be nominated as a newcomer in movie award as long as it is the first time they are cast in a movie.

thanks chingu. yeah that's probably it, you have to be the lead to be nominated. :D

Actually KYJ won the APAN award for best young actress in 2012.  I honestly think the awards and nominations are strange.  PBG has also done other roles prior to Reply so is it because of it's their first leading role?

I'm curious what other awards MDBC will get during the awards season.

yeah she did. recent nominations really confuse me but just like what @chocolatepie pointed out that could be the reason - leading role. :)

There was an article in Singapore English newspaper today about teen actresses doing the scenes of adult nature(eg. skinship, kissing scenes, etc).  Moonlight drawn by clouds and Kim Yoo Jung was mentioned in the article. The heading said viewers are divided, but from the people they have interviewed, none of them said they are uncomfortable with it.  In fact, the viewers are so rational that they mentioned about k-pop female idols showing more skin in music shows, so they can accept KYJ acting in kissing scenes. Initially, i was a bit angry, because Kim So Hyun who acted in a tvn drama has more kissing scenes than KYJ and they are the same age. Secondly, Kim So Hyun is in Singapore presently, so i was puzzled why are they targetting at Kim Yoo Jung instead.  On second thoughts, it shows that this drama is daebak, popular and good, it will attract readers' attention instead.

Straits Times, 1st October 2016

Teen actresses: Where's the line?

Is it appropriate for a 17-year-old actor to be doing scenes of an adult nature? Viewers are divided

ST_20161001_TEENMONY_2634635.jpg?itok=Wz

South Korean actress Kim Yoo Jung, who is currently seen in popular ongoing period drama Love In The Moonlight, has had a number of steamy scenes in the show. The thing is, she is only 17.

And this has caused some South Korean viewers to be outraged at what they saw as exploitation of a young star.

Although Kim has been acting for more than a decade, this is her first romantic lead role. She plays an 18-year-old who cross-dresses as a eunuch to serve the crown prince, only to fall in love with him.

In the show, she romances and kisses her older co-star Park Bo Gum, 23. She is also seen binding her chest with cloth.

Despite what South Korean audiences feel, viewers in Singapore whom The Straits Times spoke to do not have issues with Kim's scenes. The show airs in Singapore on streaming site Viu and KBS World (StarHub TV Channel 815).

Secondary school student Chan Yan Yu, 16, says: "Her age does not matter if she does not have a problem with the scenes and she fits the role and plays it well."

Ms Lydia Lee, 26, a quality assurance specialist, says: "Perhaps some people are uncomfortable because it is not common for young actors to play the romantic lead in Korea. Kim Yoo Jung definitely looks older than her age. If you do not know her age, you will not be uncomfortable."

She points out that K-pop idols about Kim's age show even more skin while teen actresses in the West also act out explicit sex scenes.

American actress Brooke Shields, now 51, caused an uproar when, at the age of 12, she played a child prostitute in the American historical drama Pretty Baby (1978). At 14, she continued her nude streak as a shipwrecked teen in the coming-of-age flick The Blue Lagoon (1980).

Hongik University assistant professor Lee Soo Jin says only a small section of South Korean TV viewers objected to Love In The Moonlight.

The Seoul-based liberal arts professor tells The Straits Times in an e-mail: "This is kind of similar to K-pop girl group members - teenage girls who enter the adult business world and begin training at a very early age and perform suggestive choreography while wearing sexy clothes.

"Nowadays, people do not criticise that as much as they used to 10 years ago. Perhaps people have become comfortable with teenage girls doing adult things. Or people have come to acknowledge teenage performers' professionalism."

Young actors, too, think that it is okay to do whatever the script requires - such as intimate scenes - as long as it is in the name of work.

The only reason why some people object on KYJ's kissing scenes  I think is because they are not really ready to see her doing mature roles yet. I mean for some, KYJ will always be the little kid they see  on TV since she started out as a child actress, so people tend to be overprotective of her. I also felt the same way at first tbh.

I feel they get another nomination for korean drama awards next month bec of good performance in mdbc and also wining last year in kbs drama award pbg are qualify to top excellence excellence or daesang. And for kyj new actress category 50/50%chance to nominated to  top excellence excellence bec she so young for these category and for the couple they have a chance to won best couple awards kbs also known by giving multiple winners in this category.

Do you have any idea if KBS will also pick the Best couple out of the multiple winners?  I feel that PBG may only be able to win top excellence (even though his performance in MDBC was flawless).  Even though i hope he can win Daesang, but i felt that they may present it to SJK/SHG for DOTS.

I hate articles like these that don't check everything.  It sucks that YJ's brilliant performance is being overshadowed by this issue.  It's easy to target YJ and MDBC because it's so popular right now.  Sadly even though the article is negative, the show gets free publicity from it.

Just came back from reading xomments on dramabeans and one of them commented that hisotrically Yeong himself is from the Kim clan? Really? If this is the case....will Yoon Sung end up being the King in the end then? To follow history? Otherwise why else do they have that scene in the beginning about him being better as the CP than the CP himself. I still think there is something about that mystery about the whole face reading thing between YS and CP and all this mention about YS and being better as a CP which hasnt been unfolded yet

and in ep 13 preview...the King went like "so this is Hong Gyong nae's daughter?" Something tells me he received a potrait of someone diff and not Ra On

@nataliakay

In history, Yeong's mum was from Ando Kim Clan and the Clan supported him but they changed it in the drama. There were speculations that the facereader got the two mixed up because they swopped clothing so actually YS is the one who will die young? I really hope none of them dies.

@chocolatepie my sis isn't following MDBC but she knows I am watching it, so she read out the ST article to me this morning (the first part) and I got so pissed off (just like you). Bad journalism by Ms G Ng, writing attention-grabbing headlines. Thank goodness the Singapore viewers interviewed showed sense in their answers.

@febz

Spoiler

So sad to learn you won't be able to watch your fave the late great Whitney Houston in a concert. I am eight years older than Ms Houston and remember watching her on TV singing "Saving All My Love For You"  - how I loved her performance.

Hope Chi Yeul comes to Singapore to hold a concert - I can't leave my house for more than four or five hours  I am one of two caregivers for my dear old mum) so it's not possible for me to travel overseas to watch him. He's such a professional -  yesterday he was in Zhangjiajie (China) filming for a variety/reality show, Chinese version of "Dad Where Are You Going?".  He caught a cold and cough (probably during filming).  This morning, he left Zhangjiajie for Macau (flew from Zhangjiajie to Shenzhen (transit), then went by car to Macau. He reached Macau just in time to be one of the performers at a concert celebrating China's National Day - I read that he didn't even have time to eat properly or to rehearse. He managed to sing three songs quite well  - one of the songs being "Bang Bang Bang".  I understand that later today, he has to catch a (midnight?) flight back to Seoul in order to be in time to attend the APAN Star Awards. Fingers crossed it won't rain tomorrow (rain is forecast in S Korea).

Regarding that performance of Bangx3 that you watched, yes, HCY started singing in Mandarin, then switched to Korean later on :)  He's so funny ... when he was rehearsing the rap bit, he said: "I am T.O.P" (this was shown during a reality show that he participates in called "I Live Alone")

The only thing people can target in Moonlight is KYJ being 17 which is seriously absurd and at this point becoming annoying with a capital A. Honestly none who watches Moonlight in my circle knows about her age or did not till I informed them. They were shocked to learn her age as they thought her acting to be quite mature. They were asking me what other shows she have done (definitely talking in terms of lead). Again surprised to know this is her first adult/lead role. I directed them to MoonSun as KSH is popular here. I am sure not just my circle but many are rewatching the childhood part of MoonSun. (Inquired about PBG too, directed them to R88)

I am glad PBG is past being targetted for acting with a 6 year younger actress. Also glad KYJ is only taking the burnt of being ONE year less than being officially adult. Which definitely is not her fault as an actress.

I am sure Korea too is enjoying the drama and not bothered with KYJ age otherwise they would have outright rejected the show. It could not have consistently scored at 20%.

Also steamy scenes WHAT'S THAT?!?!?! (Here we are chanting prayers everyday for some and they say there's many. Are you sure you watched Moonlight before writing that report?!) Being good actors to make even their staring contest steamy is their ACTING TALENT. Praise it! Specially when the other half is just a 17 year old. Yet both managing to evoke and tickle the romantic bone of kdrama viewers in all its forms. It's simply AMAZING !!!

It is suprising that others with far "worse" cases than Moonlight were not targetted or made it to headline. Perks of association with idols or being in a lesser reach. Or as someone said success is a double edged sword, which makes me proud as a fan of Moonlight as the only "fault" in the show is someone's birth year. Initial prejudices seems to have long faded off with the brilliant execution of the storyline.

@yaisahj,..oh dear where has you been....:astonished: you did so good with your review....wow..Moonlight  is steamy today....many articel quite satire sometime misslead the contex.

MDBC director found a treasure when they casting both PBG & KYJ. i can imagine this drama without them.their cheimistry burnnig the viewers brains.lol.

@yuuinokokoro, thank for tango dance betwen Yong on couple, the tension betwen them more sizzling saw that video...the editing is daebak.

Park Bo Gum And Jinyoung Get Praised For Their Action Scene Skills

Park Bo Gum And Jinyoung Get Praised For Their Action Scene Skills

The martial arts director of “Moonlight Drawn By Clouds,” Kang Young Mook, recently showered actors Park Bo Gum and Jinyoung with praise for their action scenes in the latest episode.

Spoilers

In the September 27 episode of the drama, Lee Young (Park Bo Gum) and Kim Yoon Sung (Jinyoung) team up together to fight those who have taken Hong Ra On (Kim Yoo Jung) hostage.

The martial arts director said, “We thought a lot about how to portray the content in the episode. There are lots of scenes where each character is in the middle of a significant scenario, like when Ra On helps Young and when Yoon Sung blocks a sword with his bare hand on Young’s behalf.”

He continued, “Park Bo Gum and Jinyoung had taken lessons at action school before the broadcast started, so this was their time to shine. Even though they didn’t have a lot of time to prepare, they focused really hard and managed to bring the emotion and action to life really well. Park Bo Gum makes daily progress despite his busy schedule, while Jinyoung has gotten so good he could do stunt scenes without a double.”

“I wish there could be another amazing action scene to show off their talents,” the director concluded.

P.S wow...the praise for him ... I've 2 agree the moment he comes in rescuing CP, I scream then say WHAT AN AWESOME JOB, and his expression.olalalala... Will I see him again in action movie maybe?:)
