Thank you chingu...much appreciated and so sweet of you..  *hug back*   Just felt that the drama fail to seize the opportunity to convey the humanity through YS' death, kind of wasted plot....it came across that he was not only one-sided with RO but even LY and BY but that was definitely not true.  He did not save all their 3 lives due to a belief in altruism.

Since we have reached the end of our moonlight journey. I'd like to share a little of my experience with my lovely moonlight soompiers. Warning, its a long post, it could be boring, so you can skip to the last paragraph if not interested.

Honestly i wasn't really into kdrama before. I remember the first kdrama i ever watched was Goong and it was few years back. It was only last year that i really got into kdramas after watching Its Okay Its Love, so i tried to watch some other kdramas. But still don't watch just any drama, not even the most popular one, can say that i'm quite picky or maybe i just have peculiar taste.

Anyway, I watched YooJung in The Commitment movie some time ago because of Big Bang TOP and she left a big impression on me because i thought she looked too beautiful at such a young age. Not only she was pretty but she can also acted, really great. Maybe it was because of her tones, i felt like her acting seemed very matured compare to her age and i liked that about her. I only knew she was young but didn't know exactly her age. So it happened that one of the drama i watched last year was Angry Mom. When most of young actresses played the bubbly cheeky lovable characters, it seemed to me that she always went for more serious roles, played with heavier emotions and excelled. From then i really liked her, started to google about this girl and found out that she was only like 15 or 16??? I needed to check few sites to confirm that. i looked into her other projects and watched Moon That Embrace The Sun. SHE WAS BRILLIANT. I was SOLD and became a FAN. Apologize to TMTETS fans, but i actually didn't finish the whole series, i guess i only watched TMTETS for YooJung. But i still couldn't get enough of her, it was so disappointing that i couldn't find modern day drama of her since i wasn't into saeguk. Though i think i would still watch them for her if she was the main. So i thought okay, i'll give it few more years, wait until she gets to be the leading role, hopefully in a great productions and get most of the screen time. We'll see..(Didn't expect it could be soon)

Prior to MDBC, the only kdramas i watched this year were Oh My Ghost, Hello Monster and Reply 1988. I discovered Bogum after watching Hello Monster. I thought he was really great there. But i started to really like Bogum after watching Reply 1988. i thought mannn, is this the same person who played the serial killer? His character was totally the opposite of Min. He could play different roles/characters convincingly and that makes him a great actor. From then i became his fan but I was not interested in his other projects, so I anticipate his next project. 

Though I was already a fan of both leads prior to MDBC but never have i pictured they will be starring in the same drama much less become an OTP. i didn't really follow their updates until i saw a list of upcoming kdrama on a site (forgot which one) and from the list there was MDBC. I was surprised with this pairing but at the same time anticipated because i knew both of them are great actors. I was not a fan of saeguk but I gave it a try because of the leads, BOTH Yoo Jung and Bo Gum.. I always thought historical drama was boring and conservative. The elements of melodrama, history-related, power struggle, political corruptions, sword fighting were not appealing to me. 

I just lightheartedly watched the first episode and it was surprisingly refreshing beyond my expectation. Especially with how Crown Prince's character was portrayed in the beginning, funny how a prince can be that sloppy and mess. There were a lot of memorable funny scenes that  caught my attention, like when CP was busted by the King during his studies and of course the pit scene etc. Those simple scenes made me interested to continue watching. Second episode, i can feel the chemistry between Yoo Jung and Bogum and i was hooked. I wanted more and more. While waiting for the next episode, i searched for spoilers, threads, recaps, review site and of course this soompi forum. I was lurking for a while until around episode 4 that i decided to sign up and joining in the moonlight journey with you guys because i needed a place where i can share my excitement over this 'fun' drama. of course, i was so ready for the ups and downs, not just the fun elements. I remembered i could backtracked around 100 pages in one day when i first found this forum, but as the episodes went on, i couldn't catch up even if i was offline for one or two days which i was glad because the more people joining the discussion, the merrier it'll get and it showed that more people appreciated the drama.

This is the first drama that i followed live. I normally only watched those completed and fully subbed dramas. I don't know if there will be another drama in the near future that can get me interested like this but MDBC has become one of my favorite drama. I started watching it because of Bogum and YooJung but every other casts were scene stealers to me. Jinyoung, the talented idol singer songwriter who can acts, not just can act but has done great job with his character. Kwak Dong Yeon, the young actor who's not just equally great but has the potential to become bigger star. Hye Sung the princess, the lovely character has become one of my favorite character and I found that she's just as sweet off screen. The pretty Chae SooBin, although I was hoping for more with her character but she redeemed herself on the last episode. And my favorite eunuch Jang for keeping me entertained on and off screen. The evil queen, the evil minister and his minions, Raon's eunuch friends and other characters that i don't mention here, they all have done amazing jobs. Big applause for their hard work.

Anyway, i'd like to thank everyone in here for keeping the forum updated. It was much more fun to enjoy the drama because of you guys. I've learned whole lot about saeguk, the casts and everything. this is not a farewell note, i still can't get over this drama, i'll come back to get more updates and probably share my humble posts later until i can get over it. After done writing this, i found that this is so unlike me at all, writing a boring long essay for no reason.

Scene 1

Kim Hyung opens the door and sees RO sleeping her in her room. KH thinks aloud saying that the though the journey is going to be a really long one but just like what the CP  has mentioned before that he and RO will eventually be able to return to LY and to be by his side. KH adds that he can make a promise with RO that the both of them would be able to return to LY and be by his side.

 

RO dreams that LY has drunk the poison and has collapsed onto the ground and she keeps calling out Your Highness, Your Highness...When she awakens from her dream, she mutters your highness, I have dreamt of you and I'm guessing that it must be a happy dream to be able to see you in this way.

 

LY comes into contact with the poison and collapses to the ground while HY and the palace maids are calling out Your Highness repeatedly.

 

RO learns from Master Jung that someone has tried to poison LY and that he is in a critical condition.

 

RO and Teacher Dasan impersonate as doctors and tell the palace guards that they are here to see LY. Eunuch Jang immediately comes to their rescue and says that, "You're here already. Quickly, 

 

RO grabs hold of LY's hand as she calls out "Your highness, I'm RO and that I'm here to see you. Are you alright?"

 

LY opens her eyes and sees RO but as he has not completely regained his consciousness yet, he seems to be in a drowsy state.

 

HY comes into the room and asks Teacher Dasan how is the CP and asks if LY can see her. Teacher Dasan tells her that the CP has regained his consciousness just for a while.

 

The Queen is thinking about the baby girl whom she has given birth to and this is when a court lady informs the Queen that LY has been poisoned after drinking the poisonous medicinal soup.

 

Teacher Dasan tells LY that he is fortunate that his condition is not serious as he has only drunk a little of the poisonous medicinal soup. He then tells LY that the poison on the rim of the bowl came into contact with HY's ring so that's the reason why the ring has turned black. LY tells Teacher Dasan not to reveal to anyone that he has regained his consciousness as he would like to know the others' reaction to this.

 

On the other hand, Premier Kim that the CP is in a critical condition after being poisoned and he has not regained his consciousness yet. HY returns to her room and is suspicious that the lady doctor whom she has met in LY's room is actually RO.

 

RO is helping to take care of LY and is sponging LY. As she is about to take her leave, LY pulls her closer to him. LY pulls onto her sleeve and notices that RO is still wearing the bracelet so the bracelet isn't broken. He removes the veil that RO has put on and is really glad and relieved to see her.

 

LY tells RO, "So I didn't see wrongly. It's really you."

 

LY tells her that when he opens his eyes, he is very worried that the person isn't her so that makes him feel very scared and nervous. Because what if he pulls her closer to him, he is especially afraid and worried that the person isn't her so that's the reason why he keeps hesitating.

 

RO tells LY that she has already told Teacher Dasan that she would stay behind in the palace and take extra care of LY these couple of days. She can't let anyone know about it so she tells LY to pretend that he doesn't know that she is here for him either. LY smiles sweetly and tells RO that he will pretend that he didn't all this while and tells her to remain by his side until he has completely recovered.

 

HY sees LY together with RO and sees him caressing her face lovingly.

 

Scene 2 :-

 

Lady Suk-Ui and the little princess, Yeong-eun go to see the CP. The CP is reminded of how his mother has died at that time. Lady Suk-Ui tells LY that the medicinal soup does not contain poison but yet she is killed. She adds that these 2 cases are almost identical. LY tells Lady Suk-Ui that the medicinal soup does not contain poison but rather the poison was found on the bowl. LY says that now is the right time to uncover the mystery behind the death of his mother and this would be a good opportunity but what they are lacking in is evidence.

 

The Queen tells Eunuch Sung to bring the baby out of the palace. The scene is witnessed by the CP and LY tells the Queen if she is asking them to help her to get rid of the baby and tells Eunuch Sung to put the baby down. LY adds that even if the baby has to die, the Queen should let the baby cry loudly while she is still alive and living. LY says that the only thing which the baby knows is to cry so he tells the Queen to let the baby have a good cry before she is killed and let her cry just before her mother who is about to abandon her.

 

The Queen tells LY that he can do whatever he wants as the baby has nothing to do with her. LY then tells the Queen that this will be the last chance that he will give her that she and her child will be able to live. LY tells the Queen to reveal the truth that she has given birth to a princess and not a prince. The Queen pretends not to understand and hear what LY is saying and is about to take her leave when the baby girl starts wailing loudly. She then stands rooted the ground after she hears the baby's cries.

 

Scene 3 :-

 

Princess Yeong-eun recalls the time when LY's mother has passed on and her court lady was looking really nervous and flustered. This is when RO sees the little princess and starts walking towards her. The little princess recognizes who RO is and asks if she has become a lady doctor because of the Crown Prince. RO then asks the princess if she is feeling troubled over something so the little girl asks RO if she can asks a favor of her.

 

The little princess brings RO to the room where she has hidden away from Premier Kim Hun. When she sees the closet before her eyes, she is once again reminded of the that time when the court lady who is serving under the CP's mother is being murdered by the Premier. She collapses onto the ground and tears start rolling down from her eyes continuously. RO asks if she is alright so the little princess is able to utter some words as she points to a particular place in the room. When RO lifts up the wooden plank, she is surprised to find a letter beneath it. The Premier sees RO taking a letter in her hands. This is the evidence that will help to uncover the truth behind LY's mother's death.

 

This is a handwritten letter written by LY's mother.

 

Premier Kim gives the command for his men to kill RO and bring her body to him. YS overhears his grandfather's words the men and tells his grandpa that he will bring her to him but the Premier doesn't trust in his grandson. YS then tries to convince him and says that he wants to put it to a test so that he will know how deep are his feelings for her.

 

On the other hand, the King asks LY if he has really found the letter which is written by his mother so the latter replies yes. The King then reads the contents of the letter and tells LY that the letter is indeed written by his mother. LY starts reading the letter written by his mother aloud. In her letter, she has written, "I want to use my life to protect my son's position as the Crown Prince and it's not because of power or authority but it's because I want him to become the hope for Joseon so please do not forget this.

 

Scene 4 :-

 

At this time, YS goes to look for RO and tells the latter to follow him and he has an aloof look on his face. Behind them are many assassins and together with the assassins, YS takes RO away. RO lets out a loud cry so YS can't bear to see RO being hurt by the assassins so he lifts up his sword and starts to kill the assassins one by one. He ends up being slashed by one of the assassins who lashes out how is he going to be held accountable to the Premier for what he has done. He uses his life to protect RO from the assassins and ends up being wounded badly by them. He falls onto the ground but he has managed to save RO from the assassins. 

 

Seeing the severely injured YS, RO is devastated as she starts crying. YS tells RO not to cry and not to feel sad for him. He jests that he cannot be a man who will make girls cry for him so RO ticks him off gently as she says how can he still joke about this when he is so seriously injured. She then replies that he has always made her smile and yet this is the only way that she can treat him (I think she meant to keep him at a distance) so she really feels sorry about it. YS tells her that she has always been the portrait that he wants to draw of her because he knows during the moment when he is drawing her, he feels a momentary sense of true happiness. So he only wants her to be happy. RO holds YS in her arms as the latter passes away. ((Poor YS as he has made me cry along with him too).

 

Scene 5 :- 

 

The Queen tells Premier Kim that she only wants to give birth to someone who is able to take over the throne as a King. But compared to this reason, it seems like the most important reason is because she wants to gain the Premier's and the other people's approval and acknowledgement. So that's why she has pretended that she has given birth to a prince. Premier Kim then tells her that because she wants to maintain her position as the Queen, she has even wanted to resort to killing her own child. The Queen then adds that she seems like his daughter as she is very much alike to him in this way.

 

This is when the King and the Crown Prince walks into the chamber and throws the letter at Kim Hun demanding to know if this is the truth. Flashback of  the scene when the Premier has met up with LY's deceased mother who was then still alive. Kim-Hun tells the former Queen that he has put forward a proposal for her to choose from that is if she wants the Crown Prince to be labeled as a criminal's son and is forced to step down from his position and be dethroned or does she want to protect his position as the Crown Prince. He tells the former Queen to give up her position as the Queen.

 

This is when a guard comes into the chamber and announces that the Premier's grandson has died so the latter is devastated when he heard the news. The King imposes severe punishment on Kim-Hun and the Queen as well as the Kim clan ministers. While on his way to the prison cell, the premier asks to go to YS' room to take a look. 

 

He walks into YS' room and as he sits down, he recalls what has happened in the past as YS and LY have exchanged their head-gears with each other when they were young so when the face-reader says that the CP will only be able to live a short life, he is actually referring to YS then since YS has LY's headgear on. And the face reader has mentioned that LY has the face of a future King-to-be so that is the truth and the Premier knew this all long. So most probably he wants to change YS' fate by resorting to doing all that he has done to save his grandson's life so that he will be able to live a longer life. Like he wants LY to switch places with his grandson, YS.

 

Scene 6 :-

 

LY looks at the embroidered handkerchief which his mom has given to him and he is reminded of her words to him. She tells him that she wants LY to be an enlightened King and that he is able to protect each and every one of his people just like his own family. She has asked LY if he can promise her that he would become a benevolent King who is like that. LY then says aloud saying that he will ensure that he will be the kind of King his mother has always wanted him to be and tells her to watch over him from Heaven.

 

The King announces in court that Ra-on has uncovered the truth behind the real cause of the former Queen's death so she has made a great contribution to the royal family so she is acquitted of her crime of being the traitor's daughter.

 

On the other hand, HY appeals to the King that she wants to step down from her position as the Crown Princess and she says that she has once thought that she can continue to remain by LY's side, but she has thought things through and realize  that this is not possible between them as LY does not love her so she asks to leave the palace instead. The King consents to her wishes and says that he will regard that the appointment of her as the crown princess has never happened and she can continue to pursue her own happiness and she will be able to find someone who loves her.

 

We see a happy HY exploring the city on her own.

 

Time jump....

 

On the other hand, LY has been appointed as the King and when he enters the court, he chooses not to sit on his throne but instead, he ends up sitting on one of the palace steps and he tells the court officials that he will continue to do this as he hopes that they will be able to understand his heart that he wants to be drawn much closer to his ministers and the people of the country. Basically, he wants to regard them as his equal too.

 

The Last Scene :-

 

Master Jung gives Princess Myung-eun a large bouquet of roses and tells her that there are 99 roses altogether. He also adds that there is one more rose so the Princess asks if he is referring to her so the quick-witted Master Jung quickly throws away the rose in his hand onto the floor and tells the Princess to marry him.

 

In the city, Byung-Yeon and Hong Gyeong-nae are seen together. Byung-yeon has returned home to be by LY's side. They see that LY is laughing along together with the people in town. He then says that he wants to be the Crown Prince's clouds for the Crown Prince is like the moonlight to him (hence the title of the show, Moonlight Drawn By Clouds). 

 

RO has also returned to her former job of writing novels to earn a living for herself. When LY sees RO holding the book, Moonlight Drawn by Clouds in her hands and a picture of him is drawn on the book, he tells the latter that she can't just write anything she wants and not look at this beautiful face of his. LY teases RO and asks who she is so the latter replies that she is the first commoner living in this world that he has created or perhaps, she is also his first lover as she teases him. LY then tells her that she is someone who fulfills his entire life and make it complete for him. (kind of like she completes his life).

 

LY and RO are walking along bed of flowers. LY asks RO what kind of story line is her book, Moonlight Drawn By Clouds like so the latter introduces him to the plot of the story saying that this is the journey that the Crown Prince has walked along on this path to become the next Sage-King of the country and all that he has gone through in the process of stepping up to the throne of being a King. LY then asks RO if she already has something in mind for her so the latter tells him that she doesn't as she has only taken a peek of the road that LY will continue to thread on in the future.

 

LY tells RO that she is someone who fills up his entire world completely and that person is his Ra-On. He then plants a deep kiss on her lips.

Thanks for all the posts.  I stopped watching at episode 11, not because I did not like the drama, but because I absolutely adored it.  It was easier for me to do a marathon than to wait each week for the next episodes.  However, while waiting for the drama to end, I kept up to date by reading your posts.  I enjoyed this thread, the drawings and the commentary. 

My plans this weekend are to curl up and watch the rest of Moonlight Drawn by Clouds and sigh happily at the end.

I wish this could have been a 20 episode drama instead of 18. Although I know the political stuff was gonna take full force and center at some point or another, it felt rushed to have everything explode at the very last episode. This is the first time I've watched an 18 ep drama - I always thought dramas always were in sets of 16 or 20 hahaha. It would have been nice to have some flashbacks or some comfort in Yoonsung's death because I felt like that just slapped me in the face without any ice to help heal me

However, this was to be expected. Saeguks are always really hard to portray within a strict episode limit. I love saeguks personally, but the political stuff always annoys me at one point or another, so I'm glad this drama didn't push me over the edge with eye-rolling and anger the majority of the drama hahaha, but it did feel a bit too fast-placed for the happy ending since we had so many loose ends to tie up in this last week.

BUT overall, I still loved this drama so much more than I thought I would. I'm so glad it turned out so well and the cast was AMAZING. I wish we could have gotten more bromance moments among YS-LY-BY, but /heartbreak. And of course, Yoojung still remains my favorite child actress (though I guess I can't really say that anymore since she's nearly an adult now).

they did show a little during the segment about YJ in the special ep, but not very detailed tho
