@zenya22,, Hcm will high tail it back to Bdh because of his political no how and connection, The president is calling to offer Jsp Bdh job which will probably put Hcm below Cik which she will hate so she may try and  join Jsp which I highly doubt or it's to be a spy and set Jsp up but I look for her to try and get in with that other party Hcm can't stand the fact that Cik already knows more then she do and she can't accept orders from her..

@valsava Yes, nice to see you!   I'm still reading the threads, but I rarely post these days...

Right before the scene between HCM and BDH, there are some scenes involving CIK and the rest of JSP's staff. If I'm not mistaken, the scenes were about finding money for their expenses. It seems that their budget is limited, and in order to pay for additional staff and several other expenses, they need donations. The law says that these donations have to come from individuals (and I think they are tax-deductible btw). Many assemblymen apparently circumvent this law and their money comes from companies instead of individuals. But since BDH is looking for dirt on JSP, CIK wants to do this by the book and she tells the staff to find donors.

The scene between HCM and BDH appears to be related to this, the money HCM gives BDH is money she collected for his expenses. HCM says she did this to help him, since he has a lot on his plate these days, and I believe her. She doesn't have to save her career: BDH is the one in a bad spot, HCM may have messed up during her duel against JSP but she's still the party spokesperson.

@zenya22 Well, BDH's number one priority has always been his political career. He was powerful because he was the Party Leader, and the leader of the Pro-BH faction, but truth is he never was the true leader. The true leader of the Pro-BH faction is the President, and BDH's authority came from him. Now that BDH has been discarded, he is only an average assemblyman. The fact that he lost power while JSP may gain some thanks to the President means one very important thing: in the next election, JSP will probably receive the party nomination in his constituency instead of BDH. So if BDH stays inside the party, his political career is over. He has no other choice: if he doesn't leave the party and create a new one while he still has some power left, he's done.

I don't know if HCM leaves with him. She likes him and it looks like he asks several Pro-BH members to follow him in the preview, but career-wise, she has nothing to gain and everything to lose by leaving with BDH. Conversely, it appears that CIK's other sunbae from the Opposition will join forces with him.

KBS 2TV Wednesday-Thursday drama ‘Assembly’ released the stills that Ok Taec-yeon (as Kim Kyu-Hwan), who is a secretary of Jung Jae-yeong (as Jin Sang-pil), meets Jang Hyun-sung (as Baek Do-hyun), who is the political opponent of Jung Jae-yeong.

In the drama, Ok Taec-yeon joined the office of Jin Sang-pil for revenge, but Ok Taec-yeon decided to stand on Jin Sang-pil’s side after he got touched by Jin Sang-pil’s personality and sincere political actions.

In the stills, Ok Taec-yeon looks like confused holding a doubtful envelope. He hides the envelope when Jun Jae-yeong comes to him. He calls somebody as if he decided something. Especially, the last still shows Ok Taec-yeon meets Jang Hyun-sung, who is the political opponent of Jung Jae-yeong, so it makes viewers wondering.

A drama official announced, “A face-off between Jin Sang-pil and Baek Do-hyun corrupted for political power, is imminent. The choice of Kim Kyu-hwan, who is the only weakness of Jin Sang-pil, would be a great variable”.

Assembly’ is a pleasant drama to show how Jin Sang-pil, a simple righteous Congressman who was a welder, changes from ‘loser’ to charismatic ‘real man’. It depicts Korean politics through the realistic episodes about the National Assembly and people there. The next episode of ‘Assembly’ will be aired at 10 pm tonight (Aug 26).

Ep 11 Recap

JSP and his Indifferent to BH faction made the news as he is being cartooned and made the rounds of the gag shows.

GW visits the charnel house to see his Dad and as he stands before his father’s picture, he thinks about how he thought of avenging his father for JSP’s supposed betrayal and he asks “what do I do now father?” He feels that he now betrayed that promise because his feelings about JSP has changed to respect and admiration.

 He goes back to the house a cozy and comfortable digs where he lives with JSP and Sung Gi the driver/attendant of JSP. JSP engages him in a fake fun boxing match and he tells JSP fondly that his boxing sucks. In contrast we are shown BDH in his plush residence pouring himself some fancy drink, alone, sullen, angry and unhappy. His thought gravitates to what PCS said, that he is afraid of a mere newbie assembly man by the name of JSP. His ego cannot permit what he deems as an insult and he plans a punitive retaliation using his power as Secretary General. He tells his aide that he will audit the inactive chapters of PCS’ ABH party and sanction the leaders. PCS hears about it and now the Pro BH and Anti BH factions of the Gookmin party are preparing for war against each other.

In the meantime JSP is cooperating with CIK’s training. He attends the assembly meetings and he sits alone as the sole member of the ITBH faction. He gets ridiculed and made fun of and he calls IK to vent his frustrations but IK tells him to lie low. It is better to let the factions forget about him and think of him as unimportant, then wait for the right time to strike. CIK tells him he will get the chance. He is learning the art of patience, observation, listening and right timing. He starts writing down and studies all the issues being debated and learns to pick the issues that are important for him.

While the Pro and Anti BH bicker the President calls BDH who goes to PCS to declare a truce. The President’s approval ratings from the populace is plunging down every month. The President wants the Gookmin Party to get along and make “Economic Stimulus” thru housing sales tweaking as the party platform to boost his and the party’s approval. The Prime Minister is against the platform and so are the ABH Party. PCS refuses the truce and suggest to BDH to tell the President to bring the Prime Minister to his side.  BDH tells PCS that the Prime Minister, as of that moment, will no longer be living at the PM’s residential house. The news broadcast is then shown as the seating PM resigns, the reason being the PM has doubts about the President’s economic stimulus.  PCS changes his mind and accepts the offer of truce. Now the Gookmin Party have decided to endorse the “Economic Stimulus” as the party platform except for the one that they forgot the sole member of the ITBH faction. The Gookmin Party holds an emergency meeting and JSP gets a call from CIK while he, GW and SG are shown in line ironing their shirts. CIK excitedly tells JSP that his long and patiently awaited chance to shine has come.

JSP attends the meeting and all of the Gookmin Party are present ready to vote on making the “Economic Recovery through Housing Stimulus” the party platform. As the party floor speaker was about to announce that the vote was solid, the ITBH member, JSP rose to object and walked out. As the other members tried to hold him down he reads the objections to the proposed platform made by those members themselves. He walks out and outside were reporters. He asked CIK first if it is OK for him to talk then tells the reporters he did not vote on the proposed platform. CIK and GW distributes handouts detailing JSP’s own program and reasons to the media.

 

The one ITBH faction Assemblyman member, JSP, is visited by the representatives of the ABH and PBH faction to convince him to vote on the proposed platform. Assemblyman Kang from the ABH faction tells him that he should cooperate with the party that is how politics is done. CIK interjects and says that a proposal should be debated, discussed and negotiated among the members then voted on and not a consensus among the members to pass a bill because it was demanded by the top leadership. That is against the autonomy guaranteed by the constitution. Assemblyman Kang tells CIK to be quiet since she is just an aide and not a member of the assembly. JSP tells them that CIK is an aide in title but he considers her as an equal in ranking and if Kang does not want to listen to her, then he can leave. HCM from PBH faction then tells JSP he is a wimp hiding behind his aide and that he is in violation of assembly party rules by objecting to the party platform and he will be sanctioned severely.  CIK responded that JSP is not objecting to the party platform because there is no platform yet. He is opposing to making the proposal into a platform. Big difference. If he is sanctioned by the party then JSP has the legal right to sue and even ask for the abolishment of said sanctions. JSP tells them that is the position his faction is taking.

In the meantime both JWG of the Democratic Party and CNS of the Socialist Party call BDH to tell him that they and the members of their party also oppose the proposed economic stimulus platform. JWG tells BDH that his party was divided but now thanks to JSP they are united.

HCM meets with BDH and proposes a debate with JSP. They plan to humiliate and make JSP into a tongue tied dummy so he loses face with the people then they can throw him out of the party. They never really knew JSP, they just assume that because he does not have the scholarly education and pedigree that they all proudly claim to possess, that JSP will be dominated during the debate. JSP agrees to the debate and CIK prepares him. He studies all the issues and with the help of his team. GW helps him to make notes and reviews the issues with him but just before the start of the debate CIK tore up the notes and tells JSP that he needs to debate depending on his own strength and knowledge and not on something he memorized. He cannot go one on one with HCM with what he had learned through the books as HCM had experience and learning for many years to back her up. It was painful to see the JSP at the start of the debate.  HCM performed true to her agenda of intimidation and humiliation. JSP at first was stammering and trying to answer HCM’s questions. Then at the moment that everyone thought that the JSP was beaten, he looks at his team and sees GW who gave him the fists gesture and lipped “fighting” and CIK’s determined face and nod of encouragement and the JSP knockout move starts. JSP may not have the abilities of a seasoned and educated politician like HCM but he is street smart and people savvy. He is observant and he reads people and connects to their aspirations. In contrast to HCM’s posturing, JSP apologizes for his lack of knowledge of the process as a newbie member of the Assembly. He then praises HCM for her experience and political expertise and then presents his case by first reading the letters he received from his constituents. HCM objects that those are not pertinent to the subject of the debate. JSP then comes alive. He says it is pertinent to the subject as he is talking about people whom the proposed “economic stimulus’ is supposed to help. JSP passionately spoke about what was precious to people, family. He spoke of a young person he knew of, who gets paid 1000 and pays 400 for the rent of one small room and what is left to support his daily living. If the housing stimulus bill was passed and the real estate prices increases how can that young person afford to live? He spoke of the forgotten Chilpo generation who gave up on courtship, marriage, having children, personal relationships, home ownership, dreams and hopes. He said those were the reasons why he objects to the proposed platform. He captured the attention and sympathy of the audience. The result of the debate 53 to 47 in favor of JSP. After the debate PCS calls BDH to advise him to junk the proposed party platform. And he warns BDH to stop the audits as BDH will not be able to handle the counter attack.

BDH goes to the BH to see the “Elder” but he was told the Elder did not want to see him. The Chief Presidential aide tells BDH the same thing that he heard from PCS, that he the Secretary General was not able to handle one newcomer assemblyman JSP. BDH gets insulted and tells the aide to not address him in that tone that only the President can. Huh! PCS, JWG, CIK do all the time and so does JSP.

Sorry for the long post. It is just that this is my favorite episode so far. I love how the ITBH jelled and the growth of both JSP and CIK as politicians. They learn from each other. CIK teaches about the processes and the strategies of political combat and JSP teaches CIK about people connections. In fact all of them learn from each other.

BDH on the other hand is turning himself upside down and inside out with bitterness and pride, jealousy and anger. He weaves and traps himself onto his own web so deep it would be hard for him to get out of but he does not even want to know that he is the one to blame. He blames JSP the most.

@saulmon, yes GW is hot looking and the story gets better with every episode. That is what I like about this drama how they build the story with each episode following. It gets more intense.

@valsava Yes, BDH only said he wouldn't run in his constituency again. Which leaves him with options: he won't run again at all OR he will run, but in another constituency. BDH's plan was well explained by PCS in episode 8. He was afraid he would be defeated in his own constituency by Oh Sae Chang, the famous opposition figure. So he created a scenario that would allow him to run in another constituency, where he would be sure to win. A scenario where he wouldn't look like a coward fleeing Oh Sae Chang.

 

What PCS told BDH on the phone in episode 8 is spot on: BDH is too afraid to lose and that's what will bring him down. BDH is really smart but he never takes risks. He has been called the successor of the President, his "Crown Prince", but the presidency is not something that is just handed over.

And PCS is absolutely right, there are examples in Korean politics that prove that you can reach great heights even after failing a few times. Kim Dae Jung was elected president in 1997, on his 4th try. His successor, Roh Moo Hyun, was elected in 2002 even though his political career was full of losses: he lost 3 of his 5 legislative bids, including one two year before his election as president.

 

That's why JSP is beating BDH these days. JSP has always been a little crazy but now that he has nothing to lose, he takes huge gambles and it pays off. On the other hand, BDH is now threatened by JSP, an enemy he himself created by playing it safe.

Now, BDH will find himself in the same position JSP was a few episodes ago: demoted inside his party and very unlikely to get a nomination for the constituency he wants. His creation of a new party is a self-preservation move. He will never be able to make a comeback inside his party, so his ambition leaves him with no other choice.

150827 KBS2 "Assembly" - Episode 14 Preview

Taecyeon depart to Thailand today for 2PM fanmeeting. So maybe it will take 2-3 days.

Watching EP11, I know that the writer use his experience as aide to write this story but it really hit close to home with this episode. If you're Malaysian, you get it what I mean.

The opening and ending scene of GH visit his father. I think it will be more dramatic if the end scene JSP arrived first and GH saw it. Or maybe GH left the flower and go somewhere else, JSP arrived, saw the flower then GH comeback saw him.

JSP daughter scene, yeap, why don't she watched the debate at home with mom. From past episode, mom still secretly support JSP altough she don't show it. Or maybe the daughter monitor the fancafe activity online. 

The scene where JSP being alone and just listen about the debate on the first scene is so funny. I kinda hope that JSP will go to another assemblyman that had problem with his water bottle and help to open it. 

Then after JSP stated his stand not to sign the proposal, he mentioned that he know martial arts. The 2 guys that bigger than him left him. Seriously guys...

Then when 3 of them ironing the shirt. Like how it could happen. Even if the house with more female also only have 1 irons and they got 3. I understand if GH got one since he live alone before. But BSG, I expect he got a family or his wife help for ironing his shirt or something.

What is the Korean words for Don't Care Faction? or Dont Care that they used in this drama?

Just finished watching episode 12.

I feel like forcing K drama audience to like this drama. This drama gives knowledge about congressmen, politics, and the way they think. JSP is my hero. This drama shows how to be perseverance, upright, endeavor/ striving like JSP. I love JSP’s father figure toward GW. This actor is not handsome as pretty boy but simply manly. I would applaud the writers and directors who seemed to have done research about politics fantastically.

EP.13 ended commonplace than i might think. but EP.14 was great.

He is a politician, but he act as the eyes of the citizens.

CIK proposed endlessly. and JSP was the right decision.
This is a partnership of two people without loveline very good.

KGW
He dealt a last test for JSP. and he solved the misunderstanding.
He has left the Assembly.
I think this is related to his overseas schedule.
In the end I think he would come back.
He is still work to do.(He was talking bill.)

Ep 13 t7The drama is now delving into personal relationships bit by bit.  

I empathize with KGH. He has been visiting his father asking what he should do because he was conflicted about his intention for revenge and now he has proven that there is no reason for him to do so. BDH tried to make him betray JSP by painting JSP as the bad man who made his father suffer. His manipulative and deceitful tactic backfired on him. Instead of proving JSP as the bad man, KGH now knows it was BDH who beat up his dad. One thing the Sung Gi said as he was driving JSP in traffic was that KGW knows directions. JSP said that KGW worked as a temp driver but Sung Gi said that KGH also knew the directions and every nook and corner at Gyeonjae City like a local and maybe he once lived there. JSP brushed that aside but maybe there is a truth to what he said. KJH was talking to someone on the phone about getting a job. Maybe he went back home to Geonjae City? He might meet be the one to help JSP on his campaign at Geonjae City? We need him back in action with the ITBH Team. It was so sweet that he sent a text to JSP and that last conversation he had with CIK before he left was so needed. He needs to know that he was treasured by JSP because he is his father’s child.

When JSP was going to the lectern for the news conference to demand a prosecutor’s investigation, the movie Rocky popped up in my mind. I could just picture him with his robe and his boxing gloves going to the stage together with his trainer CIK. It was so funny watching the faces of the politicians when JSP said it. It was all the same “Huh?” facial reaction. Only PCS had that infernal half smile and thinking what he can do to use the situation to his advantage.

He is staying at the Gookmin party and it is JWG who abandoned his own The Democratic Party and defected to the Gookmin Party. Now instead of 51 to 49 it will be it will be 52 to 48? So now they will not even need the ITBH faction and it's leader anymore. They can afford to throw away one member JSP because they will still be the majority without him it still be 51 to 48. Is BDH still the Party leader then and still the Secretary General?

Why do I think that BDH's getting down and dirty resentment for JSP is not only about politics but has a lot to do with CIK? (even though the reasons for his resentment and defeat are the results of his getting down dirty, it was self inflicted), I hope we will finally be given some backstory of younger BDH and CIK.

In Ep 14 though it is not fully subbed yet, we see a brooding BDH in a chair in his office and HCM comes in wanting to ask a favor from BDH not knowing what was happening and BDH was not listening and ignoring her and one phone call from CIK and he was off and running to meet her. When CIK said that she was thankful that he was there to meet her, BDH said "it is because you called" and I am not sure what CIK said to him but it made him very angry and his response was to call the Elder's Aide to tell him that he was not going to resign in his position as Secretary General right in front of CIK. Yes, for sure CIK gets his goat. I must say that in episode 14, they dressed BDH very well as in power dressing and he looked very dapper as opposed to our dear JSP who was in his usual self ironed and self laundered duds. Aside from knowing that CIK is the political tactician for JSP, but also feeling of a personal level as in jealousy that CIK is with JSP even if it is only of a professional level with JSP?
