'Bloody Heart' Jang Hyuk, compassion hidden in his charisma "It's also a guarantee check for historical drama box office success"

[OSEN=Reporter Hwi-seon Yeon] Actor Jang Hyuk is leading the rise in viewer ratings for 'Bloody Heart' with his chilling performance.

In the 7th and 8th episodes of the recently aired KBS 2TV Monday-Tuesday drama 'Bloody Heart' (written by Park Pil-joo, directed by Yoo Young-eun), the way Park Gye-won (Jang Hyuk) turned his back on his loved one and made use of her left the audience breathless.

In the seventh episode, Heo Sang-sun (played by Cha Soon-bae) tried to put Yoo-jung (played by Kang Han-na) in danger of leaving the palace, but failed, and was questioned by Cho Won-pyo (played by Heo Sung-tae). In response, Park Gye-won who seemed to be pushed back by Cho Won-pyo, but he shouted at Heo Sang-sun to get the sword without any movement, and gave off charisma by reciting to Heo Sang-sun, "A beast without use is just a prey." Viewers are pouring out favorable reviews on Jang Hyuk's vocalization specialized in historical dramas, such as "It's more creepy than yelling" and "It's Jang Hyuk as expected."

Also, in the scene where Park Gye-won asked Dowager (Park Ji-yeon) to “be a cause” for the country, it is said that he is so cold-hearted that he would not even hesitate to sacrifice love for the sake of Joseon. However, in the scene where Dowager jumped into the pond for Park Gye-won and he grabbed her hand in surprise, and when he looked sadly at Dowager's face while lying on the bed, the sincerity of the 'human' Park Gye-won hidden in his strong will for power was revealed. In this scene, Jang Hyuk elicited the viewers' compassion by moving back and forth between his desire to become Joseon's loyalist and his longing eyes for the Dowager.

In the eighth episode, the background of why Park Gye-won tried to covet the inner court was unveiled. Because he did not want to see a repeat the tyrant's politics as in the past,  he intended to create his own military. Park Gye-won, who did not budge from his will, even to his son, said to him, "If your king was a tyrant, you would have been different."

After that, he completed his charisma with anger in front of Lee Tae (Lee Joon), the king of Joseon. Park Gye-won asked Lee Tae, "Your Highness, how can you save the traitor's daughter?" The scene where Jang Hyuk shouted, "You shouldn't have followed even if the king ordered it," was reborn as the best scene in the eighth episode with the combination of Jang Hyuk's chilling eye acting and low-pitched voice. In particular, Park Gye-won has become a kingmaker with meticulous schemes instead of vitriol and violence, so expectations are also high in anticipation of the villain's moves to be drawn later.

Jang Hyuk's passionate performance, which feels lighter as the production team's intention and the actor's expressive power balance, is contributing greatly to the "Bloody Heart" ratings. Jang Hyuk's dense acting, which proved to be an "irreplaceable historical drama box office guarantee check," can be seen on "Bloody Heart," which airs every Monday and Tuesday at 9:30 p.m.

This recent compilation of BTS footage shows just what an asset JH is on set! Not just his ease with doing stunts, but the way he takes care of his juniors. Clearly, the actress playing the dowager queen was stressing about falling into the water, so JH simply took it on himself to perform the stunt- notice he's the one that's disconnecting the wire. And what he was doing with Kang Hana... I noted before that she suddenly got much better and her acting kinda changed, right? :D

I think Lee Joon needs more scenes with JH. Even his fans are noting that his character is weak and undeveloped (in a discussion with @dramafan33 on twitter). And when his fans say that... shish! :flushed: That's the big weaknes in the plot, and it makes the love story unbelievable and Yoo Jung looks stupid for being willing to sacrifice her life for a clearly weak king.

Does anyone understands what is being said in the preview for ep. 9? Notice a scene in which PGW is walking on what looks like blood soaked ground. The long awaited flashback?

@phoenix24 Thank you so much for this preview with eng subs

Spoiler

I will be sad when QD starts turning against PGW. I know he deserves to suffer, mostly in this case, for being such a bad lover lol, but I will feel sorry for them and that bond they currently have (even if its toxic)

@Prettysup About the accidental fall, was it accidental on that take or in general? Was he supposed to stop her originally? The fall was too perfect and this doesn’t really look like that take though. Im confused!

Also, yes! The Killer pleaaaase, we need lots of promotion!

looking at the scene that was in the show, I think they weren't supposed to actually fall into the water, because in the shot of them entering the water you can't really see that it's them, so for that they could have used stunt people. Probably because drying them off would delay their ability to take mulptile takes. I guess it was supposed to be just the artistic slow mo sequence of him grabbing her and turning as they fall. Not sure how exactly they shot that as they got almost vertical there. How were they supposed not to fall in the water? In the BTS you can see JH grabbing the wire, so to me it looks like JH made them fall in the water intentionally. Maybe he didn't like the idea of someone else having to enter the water for them?

I think they were supposed to fall into the pond eventually, just that they were actually only doing a test shot when that BTS was taken, not supposed to fall in yet.

KBS released a vid about ep 7-8 Ithink, with commentary from the actors-

https://www.instagram.com/p/CeDA-85JuCL/

JH's portions (rough translations)

Scene 1 of PGW drinking with Minister of War.

JH says because they were once comrades working for the same cause, but now  they got divided, he feels pain in the heart. When he held his hand, memories of the past came back.

Scene 3 of YJ revealing her identity to PGW.

JH says although PGW did not know the truth earlier, he already suspected LT had some special relationship with YJ because LT wont have feelings for a totally unrelated person (captions smart). After knowing the truth, he felt great pressure.

Scene 4 of PGW stopping QD drinking poisoned wine.

JH says, does he really want to kill her? Maybe if she really died then, it cannot be helped. (captions: Is PGW the T in MBTI?) And if she really survived, he would want to quickly bring this person away. PGW was feeling contradictory. But because his loved one is in that situation, he still have to protect her regardless. His head and his heart are fighting with each other. I think he has times when his feelings are confused.

Thanks for the translation!

Is there a reason for him to pour the hot wine or tea onto his palm instead tossing it away?
