Choi Young and the Scholars arrive at Gongmin's placeThey are greeted by Choong Suk (btw Choong Suk is sporting a very peculiar outfit that is made partly of trashbag :P) Choi Yong is scolding Choong Suk for not safeguarding the place. It seems house is too open to the public. Choi Young's face is priceless =))The Head Scholar says "Thank you for guarding us safely" (My interpretation: Being a warrior is to safeguard people. It's a duty' date=' not something done out of favor. It's a job and like any other job, one doesn't get to be appreciated a lot by others. Choi Young seems a bit surprised) [/quote']

Considering how they betrayed CY with the 500 yang bribe affair and that as a criminal CY had all the rights to refuse their request, I think those scholars should owe more than a mere thank you to CY.

Really, they're so hypocrite and selfish, can't help but dislike them!

Episode 17

Eun- soo is sleeping.  A narration of her journal can be heard.

It says that when you go a a distant place, someone will come to you and make a request.

Do not refuse the request.  You have to go back in order for that person to live.

Flashback scene from Ep 12 when Lady Choi goes to ES and tells her about CY planning to have a fight with KC that night.

I was always wondering why ES in the past (or future, I am confused) always left cryptic notes.  Could she have been more a little clear with her writing?  Why "person"?  Why not clearly write Choi Young as she already knows who he is.  Just saying.

I completely agree with you.

It was so silly of her, or SJN.

Did she write that way in order to put more dramatic tension ? We all knew of who she was talking anyway.

And ES is like the only one who can read hangul in Goryeo 8-| (well except SY maybe, bu she wasn't supposed to know that he was a time traveller anyway)

If not for those cryptic messages, they could have win a precious time and me my precious hair I pulled because of their stupidity ~X(

I know I shouldn't, but I was so sad when he said that =((

He ought to be just even toward CY, even if we know that CY is too loyal and honest to commit any crime.

It seems like a presage, did GM exiled CY in History ? I don't remember.

Ok my dear friends, as I had promised, would like to post a little of what I learned regarding Goryeo military ranks.
From the beginning I have been really confused regarding Choi Young's actual post. Some recappers and English subtitles used General, and others including WithS2 subbers, use Captain as translation for Daejang. This is fine initially, but as the drama progresses, CY is promoted several times and then it starts to get confusing.
So as I am doing translations of English subtitles into Malay which I have completed, I started to reedit, I also rewatched certain scenes, I had time to actually listen to the Korean dialogue being spoken, and managed to 'decipher' more regarding CY's rank.
Before I can elaborate further, I need to ask you all to refer to Episode 9, at the beginning when Gongmin asks the Wudalchi to enter, and CY comes in and presents himself and the Wudalchi. The other noisy minister who is in cahoots with GC throws himself to the ground to protest that CY is a criminal who needs to be punished. At this point, Gongmin turns the table on him cleverly.
If you listen carefully at this point, Gongmin refers to him as 'Chungnangjang Choi Young.' The dialogue is "Did Chungnangjang Choi Young ally himself with the former king and stand against me?"
Then in the next sentence he says "All that the Wudalchi Daejang has done, each and every one of his deeds were done under my orders."
So here, clearly Choi Young has two very distinct titles ie Chungnangjang and Wudalchi Daejang.
Okay back to Episode 9. After King Gongmin talks a little more to the entire Court, he addresses Choi Young again. This time in his full official rank: "Fifth rank, Chungnangjang Choi Young. I elevate you to the Fourth Rank and grant the Wudalchi a special privilege."
(Since there is no video of this scene that I could find on youtube, I'm attaching here the BTS video where at 1:59 LMH introduces himself as Wudalchi Chungnangjang, and then RDH repeats it subsequently.)

So what actually is Chungnangjang? And what is 5th rank and 4th rank?
Google brought me back to Darksmurfsubs where a fellow forumer actually did an amazing post titled Goryeo Military Official Posts which I paste below:
General PostsSang-changgun (上将军)– Supreme General, Senior Grade 3Tae-changgun (大将军)– Great General, Junior Grade 3Changgun (将军)– General, Grade 4Chung nangjang (中郎将)– Colonel, Grade 5 (there you go!)Nangjang (郎将)– Lt. Colonel, Grade 6
So this tells us that, CY's actual rank was Colonel and he had just been promoted to Rank 4 and is now a General (Changgun). So what does Daejang mean?
(Sorry this is long, will split it up into several parts LOL)

Thank you ! @myphim

Like always, poor CY is thrown away then used then thrown away again.. He really deserves much better.

If there was a sequel of Faith, I would like for CY&GM's bromance to be preserved.

I wonder if they were as close in reality as they were paint in the drama.

@azzurri  Wow! Very insightful post about military ranking. So Choi Young went from a colonel to a lower ranking general. As for Daejang, I've always thought it was just a name they used to call him instead of addressing him in his full, formal title. Daejang is shorter and easier to say. :))

Also, in episode 17 we did yesterday, Gongmin promoted him again.
Now he's a Level 3 general. :D
So what is his title by the end of Faith?

Japanese article originally posted by @sia3 on page 1440.

I am trying to translate Lee Min-Ho's Japanese interview.  Really hard translating from Japanese (or Korean for that matter) to English because of the placement of subject and verb in the sentence.  Anyway, I'm doing it in pieces and only those relevant to Faith.  I'm posting the Japanese text first so those posters who know the language can correct my translation:
Question 3 -Q3:シンイについて。初の時代劇ですが、演じる役柄を教えてください。 イ:高麗時代の武士チェ・ヨン、王に最も近い護衛武士を演じます。国に対して忠誠心に篤く責任感の強い人物です。
About Faith.  This is your first historical or period drama.  Can you tell us about your role?
I play the warrior Choi Young of the Goryeo dynasty who is a personal escort to the king.  He is a man with a great sense of responsibility and loyalty towards his country.
Which one was your best scene and which one was your most difficult?
Personally, I find the action scenes of rescuing (or saving) the woman that you love wonderful.  I think the idea of protecting the person you love is very manly.  THe most difficult scene was the stabbing scene with KHS in the beginning of the drama series.   I had a hard time because it was very hot (or they had difficulties filming it).  [that armor that he was wearing must have really been torture in the summer heat.  Poor Daejang]

TO BE CONTINUED

@mattie2012  Thank you for the translation of the article. I didn't know you could read Japanese.

I love LMH's answer to question 7. It is a very manly thing to do to protect someone you love. That's why I love Choi Young because he tries so hard to protect everyone he loves.  8-> 8-> 8->

@myphim : Yes, but GM said it in a polite manner they don't deserve, those scummbags !!

Why didnt we think of inviting them for the cook-out ?

They're not villains but we need lots of food to feed all the Faithlings' appetite :D
