Ratings slide across the board

Nationwide viewership ratings for MBC's "Dong Yi" dipped 1.3 percentage points to hit 20.3% for the 3 May broadcast, according to AGB Nielsen. SBS' "Jejoongwon" lost 0.6 points to reach 9.3% for its penultimate episode. Bucking the trend was KBS' "The Birth of the Rich" with a 0.3 point increase to hit 13.3%.

The decision to join the fight for independence didn't come easy for HJ. First, he was worried for SR. However, after SR gave HJ the assurance to think only for what was best for himself, he was comforted and empowered to do what was right for the country. The decision was also made easier when HJ witnessed how Emperor Gojong was forced to abdicate and HJ was arrested and tortured by the Japanese.

The PD invited gallers (users at the JJW dc gallery) to the wrap party yesterday and some of them stayed at least until the JJW team (crew & casts) moved to a karaoke after the dinner. I'm not sure exactly when they left the party.

They said JJW team would go on an overnight trip together today.

Before he made the plunge, HJ talked to Dr Allen as he wasn't sure if he should remain in JJW as a doctor or should he give it all up to be a freedom fighter. Dr Allen encouraged him by saying, "Because human beings are born into this world, everyone should have a role to play."

HJ's greatest worry was SR and so he talked to SR about his fears. To allay his fears, SR compared HJ's work to a single candle. While walking in a dark mountain, even if there were a single candle, people would flock to the light source. But, HJ pointed out that a candle burns out and he could be hurt in his new role as a freedom fighter.

What helped him made up his mind eventually was the torture in the hands of the Japanese.

It's getting almost impossible to stomach the hubris and brutality of the imperialistic Japanese.

I wonder how today's Japanese are reacting to this drama; more than a few in Japan brazenly attempt to suppress or even deny the inhumane heinousness of their ancestors.

As a Korean-American in his 20s I'm glad that such period dramas are produced to educate and remind me of the remarkable history of the motherland. We can never forget.

In the broadcast on 3 May, after agonising whether he should join the freedom fighters, HJ finally put his name down on the list and replaced Interpreter Yu as a leader of the militia.

无视高宗拒绝退位之意，日本迳行计划进行退位式，暴力冲突一触即发，面临此状况，黄正犹豫：「留在济众院行医是否正确？」

Earlier, HJ witnessed how the Japanese totally disregarded Emperor Gojong's refusal to abdicate and unilaterally went ahead to hold a ceremony commemorating the event. Witnessing Japanese brutality, HJ asked:" Is it still right for me to stay on in JJW?"

黄正去找老师安连，安连敍述了自己到朝鲜的过程，鼓励黄正：「每个人出生於世间都有他的原因和要扮演的角色」。

HJ consulted Dr Allen who explained the process leading to his decision to work in Korea. "Everyone who is born into this world has a purpose and a role to play."

正好吴主事的堂兄弟来到济众院，也再次要求黄正担任义兵队长，黄正推说要商议，并未正面答覆。

Meanwhile, one of the freedom fighters, also Official Oh's nephew, went to JJW to get an answer from HJ. HJ told him he needed more time to think it over.

Later, HJ confessed his worries to SR. Understanding his agony, SR told HJ his life was like a candle. "Walking in a dark mountain, when there's candlelight, a lot of people will follow the light source. Even though the candle burns out, it is happy as it has helped others." With that, SR supported HJ's decision to join the independence movement.
