Maybe we should make the revised one, no? But i dont have creativity for photoshoping a poster sigh..

Haha... neither do I! I'll DM the poster and suggest this to him/her.

Charmaine has been quite active in Mainland since Yanxi Palace. She's also in Winter Begonia. Must give prop to her agency -- she's been in critically acclaimed dramas!

I think mostly people thought Legend of Awakening is when Arthur reach 20 y.o, since the timeline is all correct but the LoA. And more over his appearance as Lu Ping is so mature and grown up, unlike Ning Que, still in boyish look.

You nail it on the head. People don't know, or forget, that he was still 18 when filming LoA. I think it would be more interesting to note that in 2018 he portrayed 2 different personalities (Yu Huai and Lu Ping), and then proceeded to Immortality in 2020 showing the leaked pictures :sweatingbullets:.

I've. known Kara Wai for long, but unfortunately am not really familiar with her movies/dramas... She's now one of the most active HK actresses in the Mainland no? In addition to Charmaine Sheh.

    Arthur making an art project?

He's having fun with his social media :))). It probably doesn't even have anything to do with his current project. They're all in blue, so if we're playing guesses here, he was probably feeling blue, or he's missing He Landou, hahahahahh!! (Lan=blue)

Someone made an Arthur's timeline on twitter. Pretty good!

Ah this one, i thought i read it as Happy Camp LOL, turns out Produce Camp, so Produce Camp is the same as Chuang? Hmmmm i am starting to question why should he go there, since Legend of Awakening is over. Maybe there is Cheng Xiao also?

    Yes, Chuang is Produce Camp.

That's why I wrote we need to take the rumor cautiously. It looks like someone just tossed the names of young actors who happened to have recent popular dramas :D.

He does. And reading his interviews over the years, I'm quite impressed with his consistency. Being young, I expect to see changes in his narratives from time to time. But most of them remain the same, which to me show that he's focused and determined, and he knows what he wants :)

Vague messages in his social media are probably the only way he can vent out without revealing too much and potentially backfiring.

    Possibly?

I don't know, as I don't read the book. But the second picture in black and white, the brows and the eyes have uncanny resemblance to Arthur's!

Apart from Chang'an Youth (2020) and The Wife's Lies (2015), he is also the director for Happy Noodle (2013), A Perfect Husband (2011), Pretty Maid (2010) among other projects.

I found out that this time Arthur is working with experienced main cast be it Luo Yun Xi, Chen Yao or Zhou Qi .  He's surrounded by actors whose track record are longer than his. :D

Thank you for this! The other drama titles don't ring a bell to me -- they sound like modern dramas?

Yes, like @tothestars said, most of Arthur's co-stars are more experienced actors, incl. Zhou Qi and Deng Ency who are younger than him. Sometimes I wonder if that was on purpose from the start: he wants to take lessons, and at the same time it gives him challenge. I remember in one of his interviews, he said (or implied) that while he values education (training?) but gaining experience in acting is very  important.

And i just found out Immortality director is Zhou Jia Wen Nelson Kaman, i just followed his weibo. You said before @caranita about his previous work, i can only read 大汉天之 aka Prince of Han Dynasty played by Huang XiaoMing, it was a big hit back then, but i havent watched it though. Arthur also mentioned Director He when he supported ATWIL in his weibo, and from weibo i saw Director He also being tagged in hashtag Immortality Drama, so i think there are more than one director?

Thanks for letting me know about this other director! Both Baidu and Douban only list Sam Ho (He Shupei) as the director, and tbh I'm not impressed with some of recent his works, such as Queen Dugu (the one with Hu Bingqing), Siege in Fog, and especially Begonia Rouge/Blossom in Heart. I really like Li Yitong and Deng Lun as actors, and even their acting & chemistry IMO couldn't save Blossom :( . I know a lot of people love Siege, but it's too melodramatic for my taste. He's the director of ATWIL, right? And while you quite like it, you've also mentioned some issues with the drama :).

As for Zhou Jiawen, I just checked his other works. He's pretty new? Douban only list 2 dramas he had directed: the Chang An Youth, and Wife's Lies. Haven't seen Chang An Youth, and only saw some random episodes of Wife's Lies. I remember I checked on Wife's Lies because I liked Jia Qing (the FL), and at that time Wife's Lies was quite popular. But I dropped it because I got bored, and in general I prefer wuxia/historical than modern Cdramas anyway.

So yeah, I'm not that enthusiastic about the directors, yet. But if the writing is at least decent, Arthur and Leo show great chemistry and their portrayal is spot on, it might work wonderfully for the drama.

I forgot to addres this, yeah SuMu Quan PeiLun is beautiful, he also in Immortality! One more actor with beautiful face, is Darren Chen/ Guan Hong, last time in Sleuth on Ming Dynasty, he did an undercover scene as a brothel woman, SO BEAUTIFUL!!!

Ah yeah, I agree about Darren Chen!

Btw, apparently Quan Peilun also acted in another drama helmed by Sam Ho, which is slated to air in 2020 ;). The Chinese title is 恨君不似江楼月. (The guy is everywhere now!)

YES, that's how I like it too. Trending when needed and he has works to promote, expanding fanbase at a normal/acceptable pace. While a large one would be nice, personally I prefer him to have name recognition beyond the net community.

I am thinking that many of his fans are also in OUR age group. (You know what I meant. Wink) so they are more restrianed when provoked.

Also, in Thailand, he gains many male/wuxia fans from Ever night. So not many of his fans will engage in war between fanclubs.

    This is a good thing.

I think that his fans will accept him any roles with good script  and unlikely to demand only a main role.

Let's hope the newer fans will not change the character of the current ones, being supportive without going overboard!

BTW, there is a pretty good writing about how Wang Kai has guided his fans, and I think there's a lesson or two to take :)

    https://cfen.si/2020/04/12/how-wang-kai-guided-his-fans-to-listen-to-him/

Basically, what Wang Kai does is alternate between directly tells his fans what he expects from them or what he does NOT want them to do, and show them what he prefers. As the blogger observes, he's done those since the first time he gained fame (after NIF 1, I think). It's said he lost some fans because of some of his "rather extreme" methods (refuse to smile or chat with fans at airports, for instance), but in return he's kept fans who respect him and provide him with the privacy he needs. Not sure if Arthur would go that far, though, because he's just a naturally nice person, and even being nice and well-mannered hasn't exempted him from getting labeled LOL.

    Congrats Arthur!

While here we tend to think that he doesn't make big splash (sorry, Arthur! LOL), but his popularity is actually rising. And I believe Legend of Awakening is actually more popular than people seem to claim.

I was looking at Vlinkage's chart on its main website (xunyee), and found out that Arthur's popularity ranks #8 within this past one month. Please check it here: https://www.xunyee.cn/rank-person-index-2.html. This chart also shows that in general, during the airing time of Legend of Awakening, Arthur is actually more popular than Cheng Xiao (who ranks #15 on 1-month popularity chart). So it's safe to conclude that while Cheng Xiao might have helped boosting the show's popularity in the earlier week, it was Arthur who helped sustaining it.

Edit to add: after writing this, I saw that Vlinkage just posted it's monthly popularity chart, which places Arthur at #9. My conclusion remains as it is ;-).

    79aba393gy1gfduo85il9j20u02ev1kx.jpg

Unfortunately Vlinkage no longer put shows popularity statistics on their website (they used to). I'm assuming  that's because some platforms (Youku and iQiyi, and IIRC Tencent plans to follow suit) have stopped announcing their pageview numbers.

BTW, there's a viral tweet, taken presumably from weibo, which claims that Arthur will appear in a special segment of Produce Camp 2020 together with Ding Yuxi and Song Weilong. Again, please take it with a TON of salt, because it sounds like some people tossing in some popular young actors together for a rumor mill . In My People My Country, his role was a Mongolian descent so what has that got to do with his citizenship?  Looks like his citizenship issue won't go away as looking at current political scenario with US the next few years will worsen due to Covid19 issue.  Already this pandemic has created racial dissensions with Asians in several countries ever since it appeared from Mainland China.

Inner Mongolia is part of China, and the reason is because MPMC is a movie celebrating China's National Day. But I agree that shouldn't have anything to do with his citizenship. Fact is there are many Chinese actors who are not Chinese citizens, and some of them have played the roles of national heroes (like Gong Li).

So what do you all think aside from change of crucial actors and EN2's quality of production has dropped that this occurred?

Forgot to address this. I didn't watch EN2, but yeah those are the issues raised in comments. I think @Lbpg discussed it a few times. Objectively, like you said, it has better production values than LoA. At the same time it suffered from expectation from those coming from EN1.

Speaking of faces, I think Leo Luo and Ding Yuxi have similar type of face? Thin, with some feminine features like @tothestars's description. To me the most feminine face on a male actor I've seen is the guy who plays both Su Mu in ROTR and Shangguan Tou's brother in law in ATWIL. His cast as a courtesan in ROTR is spot on!

    7 hours ago, dejun said:

Are you very sure about this on Arthur being in support roles?  I can already imagine that fans of his will have many complaints if he's not regularly onscreen.  I remember of one cp I admired a lot in the past who acted as main leads in one drama but their onscreen time were less than the supporting actors.  Their fans were truly enraged because of that.  Besides, I don't think anyone will choose him to do support roles when as lead roles he already gain popularity with many viewers and any production will not want to incur wrath of his fans unnecessarily.  He still can do cameo roles if he's interested in it.

Well, I am sure how I feel about Arthur taking in support roles, I can't tell what's in the mind of investors and production houses:). Arthur's fanbase prior to HYX is not that big and loud, and from what I've seen they're pretty tame LOL. They could be defensive, but it's understandable considering the kind and degree of personal attacks Arthur receives. It's not even about his acting, but his private life AND his family. For instance, he was attacked for taking part in My People My Country, said that he had no business in that movie since he's an American citizen. His father got harsh message on his weibo from another actor's fans due to unsubstantiated rumors. And so on. I think his fans have been showing great restraint by not initiating/engaging in fanwars afterwards. Based on that, I have high hope that they will still give him support should he get a non-leading role, provided that it's a well-written character.

  16. @dejun Perhaps what you meant is Arthur isn't suitable for doing commercials? Because I think his photo modelling -- particularly magazines -- is pretty good. His eyes are a lot more expressive in the magazine covers/pages than TVCs. But I quite like that robot vacuum ad.

Regarding supporting roles, I honestly have no problem, given the character is interesting and has good writing. But I can understand if people can't see him in a side/supporting role, because of his strong screen presence and his physique.

I've watched several episodes of both Romance of Tiger & Rose, as well as And The Winner Is Love. I don't think we can compare them because they're in different genres, but at this point I'm liking ATWIL more! ROTR is fun & fluffy, but for some inexplicable reason I can't get into the OTP. I'm the only person in this world who sort of has second lead syndromme, LOL. Probably I'm just not in the mood for fluffy romcom, because not even the cheeky dialogues and plots manage to pull me in. ATWIL works for me because I like the wuxia vibe, and the fighting scenes IMO are pretty well done. @tothestars I read your comments in ATWIL thread, and I think I overlooked all those aspects you find fault at. Don't get me wrong, I also read the comments in some discord forums, your concerns are also voiced there, even harsher :D. Yukee is heavily criticized on MDL, and I can partially agree with them, but so far I don't find her portrayal annoying. At the moment I think she was better in HSDS 2019, but it's still early to tell. I'm enjoying the show so far and mainly because of the fighting scenes. But I'm not invested in the show enough to take part in the discussion. (PS: sorry for hijacking Arthur's thread! )

I'm happy to see that! They've always been close, and I hope Alex's presence will provide Arthur some peace in such pressing environment (not the shooting, but the intruding paps). A couple of people uploaded a small clip on twitter showing a papparazzi shouting curses to Arthur (according to the posters), and I can only imagine how bad it is having to endure such thing every day. Arthur has been having to deal with prejudices and labels since he started his career, a lot more than his peers of the same age. How he handles it with calmness and maturity has been amazing so far.
