  1. This newly uploaded YouTube compiles a few interviews with Arthur + Song Yiren only, and one which also includes interview with Hu Jun and Kris Sun. I've seen them before, but this time they're English subbed. The first video has been shared here (with English translation provided by @angelangie), but the rest are only recently subbed. Unfortunately starting 11:47 the sub isn't available anymore, but perhaps the video loader is still doing it.

    Spoiler

I chuckle when SYR bluntly says that Ning Que is the type of guy who just lounges in the house, does nothing, and of course he'd choose Sang Sang since she's like a mom who waits for him at home :)))

One thing that bugs me is when Arthur defines NQ's relationship with MSS. He says MSS is NQ's #2, she'll always be in his heart even when they're not together, and she's possibly his soulmate. WHAT??? I don't know if the translation is correct, or if it's Arthur's interpretation, or it's what's in the script. I do hope it's error in translation -- no offense to the translator, though! I doubt it's Arthur's own interpretation, because I'm sure the hands-on Director will discuss the state of the relationships to the actors. So most likely it's the script :rage:, and it only confirms what many have suspected all along: the writers DID deliberately twist the relationships between NQ-SS and NQ-MSS, and of course NQ-YHY, in Season 1.

Ah super true! I forgot about that, yeah youtube version is cut version, the viet site is the 2nd fastest and uncut. We should remind each other next year hahaha

I watched it first raw on another site (Love TV) &  for me it was obvious that it was all in MSS' head. That's why I was surprised when reading the comments here saying that was NQ's imagination. But didn't most here watch it on Tencent/QQ?

Plus, the production level is also one of the best. That is why, the sadness is real ..considering that I really love CFY there. The actor himself + the drama is a perfect combination for me, so it's hard to accept a replacement. And I'm already bothered with the news behind the scene.  Well, that's just me :P

You and me both @rhaps. I haven't read the book but I really, really like EN. I love CFY and SYR in it, and to me they come in package. The ugly behind stories pissed me to the point that it's difficult for me to support a production team that seems to have thrown their own actor under the bus.

NQ definetely, he havent reached see-through level back then, and you see WGM only wave his hand and make those shiny light and everbody going down in seconds :tounge_xd:, but maybe SS will show up and stand before NQ and then WGM see the light from SS's body, and he stops... Yeah i am making my own alternate story if NQ delay or cancel his wilderness trip.

Ha! I was actually thinking of the same thing. There's no way NQ will be able to defend himself against WGM. But it will be interesting if SS appears and WGM sees her light... and I don't think Fu Zi will stay idle.

  5. Thanks for the translation @angelangie. You truly are an angel :D

The interview confirms me of his maturity level. He really is an old soul. His view on high heels and super short skirt is quite amusing to read. Although my feminist side is tickled a little bit, I understand where he came from. Like most men, even those growing up in the entertainment industry, he won't understand the length women are willing to go to look attractive LOL. His best wishes are also quite funny -- get those A's! It's like he's giving advice to young children LOLOL.

PS. He seems pretty independent to me. I saw a YouTube video where he was showing how to pack -- I bet he knows how to fold fitted sheets!:D

How do you call each other?

    CFY: Dad

CKG: **whistles** When he was young, around 5 or 6, that is our signal for him.

    Is CKF a strick father?

CKG: When he was 4 years old, I gave him a slap because I was asking him, 4 + 4 is how much? He think about it for almost half year, already 4 years old. 4+4 also you don't know? How can this be?

CFY: Not only I didn't managed to answer it, when I knew that 4+4 is 8, I didn't even wrote it out, but drew 2 circles instead, sticking together.

Dad love eldest brother more or little brother more?

CFY: Both sides of the hands are also meat

CKG: Our household don't have such a thing, things that should say will be said

Sons follow dad more or mom more?

    CFY: *showing both picture*

CKG: Look like Chen Hong more, but kinda follow my aura. When young, they were kind soft and polite, the most similar sides is the eyes, simple and clean.

Take a guess on what drama and roles mom playing?

Video1: MeiLan isn't  yours and also isn't mine, she is ZhouEr one.

CKG: DaDa underestimated our guessing ability. 'MeiLanFang' there is one character called FuZiFang

Video2: From now on, we just talk don't touch here and there. 1 year big and 2 small one, make others can't even respect.

CKG: Director XieTiaLi filmed 'HongErMongLi' ZiJun

Video3: This times mister let me feel the truth of love

    CFY: DaMingGong, Tai Ping GongZhu

CFY: When I was young, princess in my mind has a definite impressions, is someone from up and above which is my mom

CKG: My mom, then he just walk off.

    What each other love dishes?

CFY: Fried liver. Yes preferably fried liver.

CKG: As long as it is prepare by me, they will love it.

    CFY: Wa, so confident?

    CKG: Definitely.

What will you do if you seen some bad comments against your dad?

CKG: Oh they talking about you again. I think this is good enough.

CFY: We will never talk about each other in the net, be it about dad or mom or even brother on what they were doing.

When do you feel that your son had grown up?

CFY: When you don't let your parents worried.

CKG: I never feel he grown up, why must he grow up?

Do you guys want to hug each other?

    CKG: Always, here. Definitely.

Thank you so much for the video and the translation!

Hahaha this one is not stiff, I think...unlike the one from ancient wuxia series *lol*. This one is commonly used by males in other wuxia dramas, like Li Yi Feng in Chusen .

Ah that's the word i try to seek these days seeing LoA hairstyles, "classic wuxia", i afraid that kind of hair style will stiff and keep stay still although the wind blow so hard :joy: but that is what i see in older wuxia movie like in old celestial movie channel, i am sure now they have the tech to make wig like a real hair one, like they used in EN.

IMO his Ever Night ponytail is his best period drama hairstyle so far. (OK he only has one drama  to date but you know what I mean). He looks youthful and playful and it suits his face the best. He has a long chin, so if he got a long-haired wig framing his face, it would emphasize the length. The two strands don't help either. I personally think two strand style in ancient dramas look bad on anyone and I never understand why it exists at all LOL.

  8. TBH I never like blazer/suit top without shirt underneath for men (like what he wears for Dior). But I don't think that's his style, he was just wearing what the Dior stylist asked him.

I remember the first time I saw a YouTube clip of him at last year's (?) Dior show in Paris. I think he was wearing a black suit with glitters. At that time I thought he seemed rather arrogant and indifferent. But I understand now that he's actually an introvert and simply an awkward teen. He can relax in front of cameras when it's for movie/drama shooting, but I sense he doesn't really like the limelight. His brother (from the video linked here the other time) seems a much better public speaker -- but of course he's older and an active university student.

Like what @epinklyn said, if the role is not for him, then it's not for him. I hope that he just moves forward and doesnt look back.  Personally, I think EN is not everything. Popularity is also not everything, so it's better to gain it through respectable means. Dunno, from his interviews, writings, and his speech in that award event, he seems to be more mature than boys his age. I hope that he'll do well in the future.

    Can't agree more @rhaps

It's infuriating reading all those EN1 stuff, but at the same time EN1 gave him experience and exposure. At least during the shooting time he seemed to be in good hands, I won't deny it. He'll use the lessons he got from it for his future references.

I don't know if this has been posted here, but I found this interesting interview with Arthur, which shows his level of maturity. Of course non-Mandarin speakers like will need the help of Google translate :D .

It is a sad thing if it is true. But I think CFY will understand, he is come from Filming Business Family, so i'm pretty sure his dad will tell him about the dark side of entertainment business and how cruel they can be. When an opportunity come then make a fully of it, if not ours then just let it go, there are still plenty of doors will be opened for someone talented and mannered like CFY. It is a good thing that CFY has underwent this roadblock early on his career and proved that he is able to face it maturely, thx to his humble and wise family background.

I agree. I hope this makes him stronger (it does look like it!). Coming from a high profile family, I'm sure he's learned from a young age how cruel people in the business can be. I just couldn't help being angry reading about it again last night and needed to vent out :D.

I second what most of you said above, I wish him all the best in his study -- education is important! He did say he wanted to be an actor, but seeing his interests in movie production, who knows, he might later prefer directing. But better invest in his education first, while his family now can afford some of the best options there. His brother is in an Ivy league college and I kind wish he'll follow that path. I always admire artists who are also highly educated, like Janine Chang and David Duchovny :)

@caranita, I've read that douban post that you mentioned since November (and now it already has 1000 posts). But, I have no way to proof it because there is no confirmation, nor denial, from both parties. Then, MDL posted the same thing. I just thought that I couldnt watch season 2 until this news was clear ( besides the fact that I was bothered by the replacement as well ) .

True that, there's no way to prove it because the involved parties kept silent until now. Wow, 1000 posts? No way I'd be able to read each following posts! :))). I wasn't planning to follow S2 either for the exact reason (cast replacement), though I enjoyed S1 very much regardless of its flaws. I used to have nothing against the production team, I think they made quite a commendable job, and I'll admit I'm having EN withdrawal. But with more news popping up here and there, my dislike to them started to grow. Let's just say I find Arthur and his family are taking the high road here. I never once heard Arthur saying anything bad about the EN crew and his co-stars there.

@caranita, thank you for the post.

Oh really, then how unfair is it for Arthur?  Why are they using under-handed methods?  Even though he is CK's son, he seem to be so humble.  Even in the recent award ceremony, he told in the winning speech that he want to be famous on his own means and not thru his father's.  How sweet of him!!!!! These influential people should be ashamed of themselves to compete with and bring down a teenage boy.  I am really sorry for him.  Indeed I had a doubt how come he did not accept for the season2 since it's just his second sequential project.  Now I understand what was happening behind the scenes.  But now that I have seen this news, I mY not be so cultivated in watching season2.  :tears:

It's unfair to Arthur indeed and that's why it really annoyed me. Entertainment business in China is very shady, and I'm sure Arthur isn't the first nor the last victim of it. When he was casted in EN1, people accused that it was due to his father's influence. So was the fact that the production team could use the Chang An replica built by CKG, as well as some veterans agreeing to be in supporting roles. I guess those weren't enough to secure him the second season *sarcasm*. But yeah, such IS the entertainment business in China.

  13. Hi, I'm new to this forum, though I'm a long time lurker here and in Ever Night forum. I'm practically inactive in Soompi - my last post was months ago. But I need to take this out of my system.

I don't know how many of you have heard of, or even follow the rumors regarding the story behind Arthur's not reprising his role in Ever Night. I read about it first on Douban (with Google translation - could be misleading and under a 600-post thread), it was also mentioned on AVV chatbox, and someone finally made a lengthy post on MyDramaList. Basically it goes like this: EN 2 was scheduled to start shooting in May 2018. Arthur was still supposed to take part in S2. Tencent became the majority investor but  delayed the instalment of the funding until closer to scheduled shooting time. By that time the production crew could not gear enough funding and had to delay shooting. It's suspected that Tencent then forced production crew to change the male lead to one of their proteges. (This later turns out to be Dylan Wang).

TBH I was rather angry reading all those but decided to let it slide because, hey what can one do? Arthur himself and his family never said a word and his agency only stated "conflict of schedule". Then today someone on Twitter posted a link to a weibo post from last year  https://m.weibo.cn/status/4320630235087066 . The weibo poster was saying that the production crew (or someone in it) had been trying to throw Arthur under the bus by leaking that he'd be replaced even before EN started airing. Now, I can't recall the exact timeline, because I don't have a Weibo account and there's only so much you can get from a Douban discussion if you don't understand Mandarin. I had to rely on English sources (in my case, MDL). But what I just read on Twitter pretty much supports the information on MDL. The Twitter poster (NOT the weibo poster) also mentions that Angie Chai, the Meteor Garden producer, is very close to Tencent, and wonders if Tencent is the majority shareholder of Angie Chai's company.

Now, I'm not saying it's Dylan's fault. While he is the new NQ, it could've been anyone else supported by Tencent. But it's disgusting how Arthur was pushed aside. Some people comment that with his family background it won't be easy to just kick Arthur like that. However people forget that no matter how big Chen Kaige's name or how influential he is, he won't stand a chance if he has to fight against Tencent, one of the largest corporations in the world. :(
